The supplier contracts for Boeing's 787 have led to some of the biggest defense companies in Japan and South Korea expanding their reach as global suppliers in commercial aviation. Details of all the different plants of industries that are working directly for Boeing are highlighted.

The U.S. Navy's Broad Area Maritime Surveillance (BAMS) program proposes that in order to provide continual surveillance and accurate information, unmanned area vehicle should be used.

NASA would announce on August 31, 2006, whether Lockheed Martin or Northrop Grumman/Boeing would build the Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV) replacing the shuttle as the primary route to space for US astronauts. Hardware for the test flight of the ARES I vehicle that would carry the CEV to orbit is ready and engineers are preparing instrumentation for the ground test of the Ares I first stage in November, with NASA working on a tight timetable to minimize the gap in US space access after the space shuttle makes its final flight in 2010.

The US Navy is forfeiting the whole concept of the traditional Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) with Boeing Co.'s P-8A Multi-mission Maritime Aircraft (MMA), which might become one of the cornerstones of the Network Centric Operations tenet. The US Navy and Boeing have crafted a production concept that satisfies the security needs of the customer while benefiting from the series production efficiency of the commercial B737.

Messier Dowty's selection to provide the main and nose landing gear for the 787 is its first prime contract with Boeing for a commercial aircraft reveals how Boeing is using Life-Cycle Product Teams to work with its suppliers. Messier would pull assemblies from plants in Asia, North America and Europe for the 787 contract.

Defense contractors like Boeing and Northrop Grumman are working to bid protest a contract not yet awarded to build the U.S. Air Force refueling tankers.

The delivery of Boeing's 787 that was supposed to be in May 2007 is being viewed manner though, optimism exists about the timely delivery. It was originally set for late August but the first flight will take place not earlier than mid-November and may be by mid-December.

At the Boeing Satellite Development center, the manifest shows that the current mix is 60 percent military/government and 40 percent commercial contracts. Its military work, led by network communications systems is heavily influenced by a technology push from the civil side in such areas as mobile users, video multi-casting and voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services and with the energy level of communications satellites up, Boeing is also seeing increasing demand from the U. S. government.

Boeing is planning to offer an F-15E+ 'Super Eagle' to the United States Air Force as a less-expensive gap-filler, if the Joint Strike Fighter's (JSF) production is delayed. Boeing officials reveal that the Super Eagle would be a multifold fighter spun out of technologies developed for the South Korean and Singaporean F-15 versions, also assuring that Boeing is not offering a replacement for either the F-22 or F-35, but an interim capability between them if the JSF is delayed.

The advanced architectures incorporated into the aircrafts would help in saving weight, reducing cost and boosting reliability. Smiths Aerospace has built a Mission Control System (MCS) unit for the Boeing KC-767 and is testing the common computing resource cabinet for the Boeing 787's Common Care System.

The Boeing Company puts finishing touches on the design of a signals intelligence aircraft that will replace the aging EP-3. Although primarily meant for the US Navy, Boeing believes that the new airplane, which is derived from the P-8A multimission maritime aircraft, could prove useful across service lines, particularly to the US Air Force that is lagging behind in state-of-the-art intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) systems.
