The article discusses research published in the 2021 issue of the "International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health" which evaluated the use of short dental implants compared to standard dental implants. The research reviewed studies on short implants and standard-length implants placed in augmented and nonaugmented edentulous sites, short implant survival, stability and marginal bone levels, and implants placed in the posterior maxilla and in medically compromised patients.

The article presents abstracts on oral and maxillofacial implants which include onlay bone grafting in the atrophic maxilla, a comparison of inlay versus onlay iliac bone grafting in atrophic posterior mandible, and implants inserted into alveolar bone sites augmented with homografts.

Abstracts are presented for several published research papers including "Anatomical considerations of the Thai fibula used as a fibula osteocutaneous free flap in mandibular reconstruction and dental implant placement," "Dental implant outcome after primary implantation into double-barreled fibula osteoseptocutaneous free flap-reconstructed mandible," and "Fibula osteo-adipofascial flap for mandibular and maxillary reconstruction."

The article reports on research which was conducted to identify and review research papers which were published between 2010 and 2011 on peri-implantitis-associated bone loss and its maintenance.
