This article discusses the centuries-old tradition of keeping bears in moats at castles in the Czech Republic. The famous Cesky Krumlov Castle is one such location where bears have been kept for over 300 years. However, a coalition of NGOs, including the Foundation for Bears and Bears in Mind, is working to end this practice and improve the living conditions of the bears. The coalition has met with important stakeholders, including the management of Cesky Krumlov Castle and the National Heritage Institute, to propose solutions and advocate for the relocation of the captive bears to specialized facilities abroad. The coalition is also conducting research to understand the opinions and motivations of visitors regarding the bear keeping tradition. [Extracted from the article]
