Complexity in the sustainable renovation of heritage buildings requires adoption of more sophisticated technologies and project management models to deal with the contradiction between sustainable design and heritage values preservation, as well as enhancing process productivity and final performance. This research aims to assess the application of several Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) strategies and tools through Building Information Modelling (BIM), determining shared collaborative practices across the projects and the level to which the teams were able to implement the tools and processes effectively to enhance sustainability aspects and efficiency of renovating heritages. The research adopts a mixed methodology, Qualitative Comparative Analysis triangulating the collected data. An intensive review of related literature is carried out, besides data collection and analysis of four real-world heritage cases (in different contexts). The research study enables a comprehensive and systematic exploration of the potential use of IPD and BIM within the development of an analytical framework consisting of a set of defined variables including 50 criteria, classified into 15 categories, and grouped into five thematic strands (people, process, policy, technology, and product). The findings reveal that IPD and BIM simultaneous use allows integrating heritage values into holistic decision-making frameworks attaining high-performance outcomes in heritage renovations. Sustainable building renovation design is a highly challenging and ever more pressing issue in the construction sector. Through rounds of dialogue and negotiation, architects along with diverse sets of stakeholders must iteratively search through a large number of potential designs while aiming to optimize a range of key performance indicators (KPIs) that measure, for example, construction cost, energy efficiency, an occupant's sense of privacy, and so on. While software tools have significant potential for supporting this process, there is a lack of standardization within the community, creating barriers for the transfer of knowledge and tools between renovation projects. We are developing the Renovation Domain Model, NovaDM, a unifying framework that enables architects to formally represent project-specific details relevant to their renovation project so that NovaDM-compliant tools can be used for design generation and evaluation. In this paper we present the theoretical foundations of NovaDM, including action trees for defining project-specific scenario spaces, constraint languages for refining action trees, and a new aspect coverage strategy for structuring and sampling the full scenario space. A fundamental challenge within the field of renovation is handling enormous complexity at two levels. Firstly, complexity at the level of an individual building project must be handled that consists of thousands of building elements that are amenable to renovation, and how each renovation action impacts a range of competing key performance indicators (KPIs), which are unique for every project. Secondly, complexity must be handled at the AECO-community level of knowledge about what renovation actions are available today. The aims of this paper are first to present an innovative approach for addressing these challenges through developing a Renovation Domain Model for expressing and capturing key concepts for renovation scenarios; and second to propose an innovative renovation design support framework that provides design teams with broad coverage of the design space in conjunction with limited, careful use of precise simulations for KPI evaluation. Due to climate change, the rise in global temperature causes an increased need for cooling to satisfy occupants' thermal comfort. Application of architecture passive design strategies, so-called bioclimatic architecture strategies, based on the local climate to forego active cooling measures to decrease the conventional heating need and ensure thermal comfort are, thus, becoming highly relevant and vitally important. In an effort to adapt and promote passive architecture design strategies in the new design or renovation of building projects, this literature review fills the gap by identifying suitable bioclimatic architecture strategies in the Danish setting. The literature review adopts the PRISMA flowchart (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses), and the outcome is supplemented by screening 25 actual bioclimatic architecture-based building design projects in Denmark. The study shows that a wide range of passive strategies are being researched and practiced in Denmark, whereby the focus for passive heating strategies lies on solar gains, thermal insulation and thermal mass. Among passive cooling strategies, natural ventilation and solar shading are the main strategies investigated. Based on the analysis, it is expected that the use and research of those measures will continue, whereby the passive cooling measures will be of particular future interest in light of increasing outdoor temperatures.
