Librarianship and Information Science (LIS) studies have undergone a decline in many countries that is visible in various ways, among which are the disappearance of these degree courses in different universities around the world. These studies need to seek new scenarios to avoid becoming obsolete in a world in which information is undergoing constant change. The profile of the Head of Intelligence in general, and of the Intelligence Analyst in particular, can serve to develop new areas of study and research, and new professional careers. This work analyses the training of Intelligence professionals, the organisms related to that field, and the role those professionals play in the Intelligence Cycle in Spain. The main objective of this study was to determine whether the subjects taught in the LIS Degree courses offered in Spanish universities make it possible to highlight a profile that has never as yet been recognized as a career opportunity within these studies – that of the figure of the Intelligence Professional in general, and of the Intelligence Analyst in particular. An exhaustive and detailed content analysis was carried out of the teaching plans of all the subjects in the curricula of the eleven LIS Degree courses taught in Spain during the 2019/2020 academic year in terms of their adaptation to the phases of the Intelligence Cycle. There was found to exist an important set of subjects related to that cycle, which have the possibility of giving rise to a new professional profile in the LIS field: the Intelligence Professional.

Resumen Objetivos Conocer la prevalencia de enfermedad renal cronica (ERC) y determinar los factores asociados al deterioro de la funcion renal en poblacion asistida en atencion primaria. Pacientes y metodo Estudio transversal y multicentrico realizado en los pacientes basales del estudio IBERICAN (identificacion de la poblacion espanola de riesgo cardiovascular y renal). Se considero ERC a un filtrado glomerular estimado (FGe) Resultados Se incluyeron 7.895 pacientes (edad media 57,9 ± 14,8 anos; 54,5% mujeres). El 14,4% (IC 95%: 13,6-15,1) presentaba ERC; en hombres un 16,1% (IC 95%: 14,9-17,3) y en mujeres un 12,9% (IC 95%: 11,9-14,0). Se observo un aumento continuo de la prevalencia con la edad (24,8% ≥ 65 anos) y con la agregacion de FRCV. Las variables que mas se asociaron a la probabilidad de padecer ERC fueron hipertrofia ventricular izquierda (OR: 1,95; p Conclusiones Catorce de cada 100 pacientes incluidos en el estudio IBERICAN presenta ERC. La prevalencia de ERC afecta a la cuarta parte de pacientes ≥ 65 anos y aumenta exponencialmente con la agregacion de FRCV.

Home enteral nutrition (HEN) is an alternative for patients who are unable to feed orally because of their clinical situation and who do not need to be hospitalized.

Demand forecasting is and has been for years a topic of great interest in the electricity sector, being the temperature one of its major drivers. Indeed, one of the challenges when modelling the load is to choose the right weather station, or set of stations, for a given load time series. However, only a few research papers have been devoted to this topic. This paper reviews the most relevant methods that were applied during the Global Energy Forecasting Competition of 2014 (GEFCom2014) and presents a new approach to weather station selection, based on Genetic Algorithms (GA), which allows finding the best set of stations for any demand forecasting model, and outperforms the results of existing methods. Furthermore its performance has also been tested using GEFCom2012 data, providing significant error improvements. Finally, the possibility of combining the weather stations selected by the proposed GA using the BFGS algorithm is briefly tested, providing promising results.

Objectives To investigate the effect of adding melatonin to hypothermia treatment on neurodevelopmental outcomes in asphyctic newborns. Design Pilot multicenter, randomized, controlled, double-blind clinical trial. Statistical comparison of results obtained in two intervention arms: hypothermia plus placebo and hypothermia plus melatonin. Setting Level 3 neonatal ICU. Patients Twenty-five newborns were recruited. Interventions The hypothermia plus melatonin patients received a daily dose of IV melatonin, 5 mg per kg body weight, for 3 days. General laboratory variables were measured both at neonatal ICU admission and after intervention. All infants were studied with amplitude-integrated electroencephalography and brain MRI within the first week of life. The neurodevelopmental Bayley III test, the Gross Motor Function Classification System, and the Tardieu scale were applied at the ages of 6 and 18 months. Measurements and main results Clinical characteristics, laboratory evaluations, MRI findings, and amplitude-integrated electroencephalography background did not differ between the treatment groups. The newborns in the hypothermia plus melatonin group achieved a significantly higher composite score for the cognitive section of the Bayley III test at 18 months old, with respect to the hypothermia plus placebo group (p = 0.05). There were no differences between the groups according to the Gross Motor Function Classification System and Tardieu motor assessment scales. Conclusions The early addition of IV melatonin to asphyctic neonates is feasible and may improve long-term neurodevelopment. To our knowledge, this is the first clinical trial to analyze the administration of IV melatonin as an adjuvant therapy to therapeutic hypothermia.

Objective: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), one of the major complications of systemic sclerosis (SSc), is a rare disease with unknown etiopathogenesis and noncurative treatments. As mice deficient in P-selectin glycoprotein ligand 1 (PSGL-1) develop a spontaneous SSc-like syndrome, we undertook this study to analyze whether they develop PAH and to examine the molecular mechanisms involved. Methods: Doppler echocardiography was used to estimate pulmonary pressure, immunohistochemistry was used to assess vascular remodeling, and myography of dissected pulmonary artery rings was used to analyze vascular reactivity. Angiotensin II (Ang II) levels were quantified by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and Western blotting was used to measure Ang II type 1 receptor (ATR), ATR, endothelial cell nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), and phosphorylated eNOS expression in lung lysates. Flow cytometry allowed us to determine cytokine production by immune cells and NO production by endothelial cells. In all cases, there were 4–8 mice per experimental group. Results: PSGL-1 mice showed lung vessel wall remodeling and a reduced mean ± SD expression of pulmonary ATR (expression ratio [relative to β-actin] in female mice age >18 months: wild-type mice 0.799 ± 0.508 versus knockout mice 0.346 ± 0.229). With aging, female PSGL-1 mice had impaired up-regulation of estrogen receptor α (ERα) and developed lung vascular endothelial dysfunction coinciding with an increase in mean ± SEM pulmonary Ang II levels (wild-type 48.70 ± 5.13 pg/gm lung tissue versus knockout 78.02 ± 28.09 pg/gm lung tissue) and a decrease in eNOS phosphorylation, leading to reduced endothelial NO production. These events led to a reduction in the pulmonary artery acceleration time:ejection time ratio in 33% of aged female PSGL-1 mice, indicating pulmonary hypertension. Importantly, we found expanded populations of interferon-γ–producing PSGL-1 T cells and B cells and a reduced presence of regulatory T cells. INTRODUCTION: Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) is a genetic condition resulting in lung and liver disease with a great clinical variability. MicroRNAs have been identified as disease modifiers; therefore miRNA deregulation could play an important role in disease heterogeneity. Members of miR-320 family are involved in regulating of multiple processes including inflammation, and have potential specific binding sites in the 3'UTR region of SERPINA1 gene. In this study we explore the involvement of miR-320c, a member of this family, in this disease. METHODS: Firstly in vitro studies were carried out to demonstrate regulation of SERPINA1 gene by miR-320. Furthermore, the expression of miR-320c was analyzed in the blood of 98 individuals with different AAT serum levels by using quantitative PCR and expression was correlated to clinical parameters of the patients. Finally, HL60 cells were used to analyze induction of miR-320c in inflammatory conditions. RESULTS: Overexpression of miR-320 members in human HepG2 cells led to inhibition of SERPINA1 expression. Analysis of miR-320c expression in patient's samples revealed significantly increased expression of miR-320c in individuals with pulmonary disease. Additionally, HL60 cells treated with the pro-inflammatory factor lipopolysaccharide (LPS) showed increase in miR-320c expression, suggesting that miR-320c responds to inflammation. CONCLUSION: Our findings demonstrate that miR-320c inhibits SERPINA1 expression in a hepatic cell line and its levels in blood are associated with lung disease in a cohort of patients with different AAT serum levels. These results suggest that miR-320c can play a role in AAT regulation and could be a biomarker of inflammatory processes in pulmonary diseases.

Purpose This research aims to demonstrate the possible link between the sociodemographic profile of visitors motivated by the visit to flamenco shows and the city of Córdoba (Spain), and the preferences and sensations regarding these experiences. Design/methodology/approach The methodology used (multilayer perceptron) is based on the development of an artificial neural network. Findings The results show that the variables age and educational level are determining factors in the profile of the visitor. Also, as the level of income increases, so does the interest in flamenco, a fact that can be useful to determine the target audience for this type of shows. Originality/value Flamenco is an art that originated in the Andalusian region that arouses the interest of the visitor due to its music, way of singing and dance. Flamenco is a popular art that excites and awakens the senses of those who attend this dance, song and guitar show. Its recognition as Intangible Heritage of Humanity by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) since 2010, makes it a tourist product that motivates visitors to travel to the city of Córdoba (Spain), being also one of flamenco's places of origin. Córdoba has this art in its tourist offer so that the identity of the city has two aspects: patrimonial and immaterial, among the flamenco highlighted.

During the past decade, software development has evolved from a rigid, linear process to a highly automated and flexible one, thanks to the emergence of continuous integration and delivery environments. Nowadays, more and more development teams rely on such environments to build their complex projects, as the advantages they offer are numerous. On the security side however, most environments seem to focus on the authentication part, neglecting other critical aspects such as the integrity of the source code and the compiled binaries. To ensure the soundness of a software project, its source code must be secured from malicious modifications. Yet, no method can accurately verify that the integrity of the project’s source code has not been breached. This paper presents P2ISE, a novel integrity preserving tool that provides strong security assertions for developers against attackers. At the heart of P2ISE lies the TPM trusted computing technology which is leveraged to ensure integrity preservation. We have implemented the P2ISE and quantitatively assessed its performance and efficiency.

The use of the state-of-art information and communication technology has been found to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of the tourism industry and many countries have chosen to implement smart tourism tools as a strategy to adapt to the continuously changing profile of tourists. While there are many tools which could be implemented for such endeavors, the evaluation of the tourist preferences in relation to their use and importance needs to be done so as to ensure at least the sustainability of investments and of the local development strategies. The Chimborazo Fauna Reserve (canton of Riobamba, Ecuador) was selected for the application of a questionnaire survey to evaluate the importance of 38 smart tourism tools based on the experience of Ecuadorian and international tourists with them. The survey considered more than 700 respondents and 500 valid questionnaires were retained for analysis which was done mainly by developing distributions of the relative frequencies of ratings given on a 5-point Likert scale and by a correspondence analysis at the level of two subsamples: national and international tourists. There were obvious differences between these two groups in terms of importance placed on the smart tourism tools. The first difference was that the Ecuadorian tourists found less utility in the smart tools as compared to the international tourists. The second difference was that the best rated tools in terms of importance were different among the two groups, with the international tourists placing, for instance, more importance on safety-related tools. Correspondence analysis has shown the similarities of profiles and data association, being a useful tool of associating the ratings to the evaluated tools. The knowledge gained by the survey may be helpful in supporting the development of local tourist strategies, providing at the same time valuable data to support preference comparisons with other tourist destinations and countries.

Introduction: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is characterised by insufficient vascular development in the retina, and requires early treatment to avoid visual disability in severe cases. ROP is currently the second leading cause of preventable child blindness in the world. Patients and methods: This was an observational, retrospective, case-control study including 233 preterm infants examined between 1999 and 2019. Results: Postnatal weight gain in the first 4 weeks of life, birth weight, gestational age, mechanical ventilation, transfusion, presence of sepsis, persistence of arterial ductus, necrotising enterocolitis, intraventricular haemorrhage, or periventricular leukomalacia were found to be significantly different between the ROP groups requiring and not requiring treatment. The mean postnatal weight gain in the ROP group not requiring treatment was 12.75 ± 5.99 g/day, whereas it was 9.50 ± 5.45 g/day in the ROP group requiring treatment. The risk of developing ROP that required treatment decreased with an increase in weight gain. The risk reduction was 2.76%–8.35% in preterm infants gaining 10 g/day, and 7.17%–12.76% in infants gaining 20 g/day. Conclusions: The risk of developing ROP requiring treatment decreased with increasing weight gain in the first 4 weeks of life. This was applicable in infants with postnatal weight gain ≥14 g/day. However, gestational age, birth weight, time of mechanical ventilation, and comorbidity should be taken into account when evaluating the risk of ROP requiring treatment. Resumen: Introducción: La retinopatía del prematuro (ROP) se caracteriza por el desarrollo vascular insuficiente en la retina que, en los casos severos precisa tratamiento precoz para evitar secuelas visuales. Es actualmente la segunda causa mundial de ceguera infantil prevenible. Pacientes y métodos: Estudio observacional, retrospectivo, de casos-controles sobre 233 recién nacidos prematuros explorados entre 1999−2019. Resultados: La ganancia de peso postnatal en las primeras 4 semanas, el peso al nacer, la edad gestacional, la ventilación mecánica, las transfusiones recibidas y la presencia de sepsis, ductus arteriovenoso persistente, enterocolitis necrotizante, hemorragia intraventricular o leucomalacia periventricular, mostraron diferencias significativas entre el grupo de ROP no susceptible de tratamiento frente al grupo candidato a tratamiento. La ganancia ponderal media fue 12,75 ± 5,99 g/día en el grupo no susceptible de tratamiento y 9,50 ± 5,45 g/día en el susceptible de tratamiento. El riesgo de ROP candidata a tratamiento se redujo progresivamente con el aumento de ganancia ponderal. La reducción del riesgo fue de 2,76–8,35% en ganancias de 10 g/día, y alcanza el 7,17–12,76% en ganancias de 20 g/día. Conclusiones: El riesgo de presentar ROP severa candidata a tratamiento disminuye con el aumento de la ganancia de peso postnatal en las primeras 4 semanas. Esta relación se mantiene en ganancias de peso >14 g/día. Sin embargo, se deben tener en cuenta la edad gestacional y peso al nacer del recién nacido, la duración de la ventilación mecánica y su comorbilidad para la evaluación global del riesgo de ROP que precisa tratamiento.

The kynurenine pathway of tryptophan metabolism has been involved in ADHD We quantified basal levels and daily fluctuations of tryptophan and several kynurenine metabolites, as well as their changes after treatment with methylphenidate (MPH). A total of 179 children were recruited, grouped into ADHD (n = 130) and healthy controls (CG,n = 49). Blood samples were drawn at 20:00 and 09:00 h and only in the ADHD group after 4.63±2.3 months of treatment. Nocturnal urine was collected between both draws. Factorial analysis (Stata12.0) was performed with Groups, Time, Hour of Day and Depressive Symptoms (DS) as factors. Advanced-stage gastrointestinal tumors have high mortality due to chemotherapy limitations. One of the causes of treatment failure is the presence of cancer stem cells (CSCs), which show resistance mechanisms against DNA damage, such as poly (adenosine diphosphate-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP-1). However, little is known about the relevance of PARP-1 in these tumor cells. Our purpose is to analyze the expression of PARP-1 in cancer cells and CSCs from gastrointestinal tumors, its relationship with the DNA damage repair process and its modulation by cytotoxic and PARP-1 inhibitors. We used pancreatic, liver and colon cancer cell lines and isolated CSCs using Aldefluor technology to analyze PARP-1 expression. In addition, we examined the effect of classic cytotoxic drugs (Doxorubicin, Gemcitabine, Irinotecan and 5-Fluorouracil) and a PARP-1 inhibitor (Olaparib) in cultured cells and 3D tumorspheres. We demonstrated that PARP-1 is highly expressed in pancreatic, liver and colon tumor cells and that this expression was significantly higher in cell populations with CSC characteristics. In addition, Doxorubicin and Gemcitabine increased their cytotoxic effect when administered simultaneously with Olaparib, decreasing the formation of 3D tumorspheres. Our findings suggest that PARP-1 is a common and relevant resistance mechanism in CSCs from gastrointestinal tumors and that the use of PARP-1 inhibitors may be an adjuvant therapy to increase apoptosis in this type of cells which are responsible to cancer recurrence and metastasis.

The present study was aimed at assessing the impact of manipulating the attentional load using a multiple object tracking (MOT) task on the dynamics of the accommodative response in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The pupil size was recorded to assess the effectiveness of the experimental manipulation, and the role of ADHD medication was also explored. The accommodative and pupil dynamics (magnitude and variability) were monitored with an open-field autorefractometer (WAM-5500) in 41 children with ADHD (24 non-medicated and 17 medicated) and 21 non-ADHD controls, while they performed the MOT task with four different levels of complexity (i.e., tracking zero, one, two, or three targets). We found that increasing the attentional load caused a heightened accommodative response, showing a negative association between MOT complexity and accommodative lag in children with ADHD and non-ADHD controls. Complementarily, the pupil size increased as a function of task complexity, confirming a successful experimental manipulation. The stability of accommodation was insensitive to the attentional manipulation, but it differed between groups. Specifically, non-medicated children with ADHD exhibited a greater variability of accommodation in comparison to controls. Increasing the attentional load is associated with a reduction in the accommodative lag in children with ADHD and controls. Our findings show that the allocation of attention plays an important role in the dynamics of the accommodative response, which may be of relevance in the diagnosis and treatment of accommodative deficits in children with and without ADHD.

In recent years, interest in video game live streaming services has increased as a new communication instrument, social network, source of leisure, and entertainment platform for millions of users. The rise in this type of service has been accompanied by an increase in research on these platforms. As an emerging domain of research focused on this novel phenomenon takes shape, it is necessary to delve into its nature and antecedents. The main objective of this research is to provide a comprehensive reference that allows future analyses to be addressed with greater rigor and theoretical depth. In this work, we developed a meta-review of the literature supported by a bibliometric performance and network analysis (BPNA). We used the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis) protocol to obtain a representative sample of 111 published documents since 2012 and indexed in the Web of Science. Additionally, we exposed the main research topics developed to date, which allowed us to detect future research challenges and trends. The findings revealed four specializations or subdomains: studies focused on the transmitter or streamer; the receiver or the audience; the channel or platform; and the transmission process. These four specializations add to the accumulated knowledge through the development of six core themes that emerge: motivations, behaviors, monetization of activities, quality of experience, use of social networks and media, and gender issues.

Nowadays one of the main focuses of the Spanish University system is achieving the active learning paradigm in the context of its integration into the European Higher Education Area. This goal is being addressed by means of the application of novel teaching mechanisms. Among a wide variety of learning approaches, the present work focuses on peer review, understood as a collaborative learning technique where students assess other student’s work and provide their own feedback. In this way, peer review has the overarching goal of improving the student learning during this process. Peer review has been successfully applied and analyzed in the literature. Indeed, many authors also recommend improving the design and implementation of self and peer review, which has been our main goal. This paper presents an empirical study based on the application of peer review assessment in different higher education BSc and MSc courses. In this way, six courses from different studies at the University of Malaga in Spain are subject to the application of peer review strategies to promote student learning and develop cross-wise skills such as critical thinking, autonomy and responsibility. Based on these experiences, a deep analysis of the results is performed, showing that a proper application of the peer review methodology provides reliable reviews (with close scores to the ones from the teacher) as well as an improvement in the students’ performance.

In this empirical study, we address the relationship between the dimensions of learning in higher education (i.e., student engagement, approaches to learning, and satisfaction with learning) and sustainability (i.e., austerity altruistic, pro-ecological and equitable behavior). The results demonstrate that there is a positive linear relationship between engagement with learning and deep and strategic approaches, motivation and strategies, and altruistic, equitable and pro-ecological behavior. Austerity, however, only correlated with high dedication to learning. Satisfaction with learning was associated with altruistic and equitable behavior and an overall measure of sustainability, and was independently associated with austerity and pro-ecological behavior. Engagement with learning was associated with sustainable behavior, especially with altruistic and pro-ecological behavior in its three expressions, namely, vigor, absorption and dedication. In contrast, austerity was found to be only associated with engagement with learning. As a whole, and in line with Bronfenbrenner&rsquo, s theory, the results of this study suggest that the aforementioned systems are interconnected and mutually influence each other.

Studies suggest that the bidirectional relationship existent between the gut microbiome (GM) and the central nervous system (CNS), or so-called the microbiome–gut–brain axis (MGBA), is involved in diverse neuropsychiatric diseases in children and adults. In pediatric age, most studies have focused on patients with autism. However, evidence of the role played by the MGBA in attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), the most common neurodevelopmental disorder in childhood, is still scanty and heterogeneous. This review aims to provide the current evidence on the functioning of the MGBA in pediatric patients with ADHD and the specific role of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (!-3 PUFAs) in this interaction, as well as the potential of the GM as a therapeutic target for ADHD. We will explore: (1) the diverse communication pathways between the GM and the CNS; (2) changes in the GM composition in children and adolescents with ADHD and association with ADHD pathophysiology; (3) influence of the GM on the !-3 PUFA imbalance characteristically found in ADHD; (4) interaction between the GM and circadian rhythm regulation, as sleep disorders are frequently comorbid with ADHD; (5) finally, we will evaluate the most recent studies on the use of probiotics in pediatric patients with ADHD.

Nowadays the composite material is becoming essential for aerospace structures due to the weight reduction. The lightweight composite structures bring with some problems like accidental damage. The support of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems in overall Structural Integrity (SI) management in those cases is in continuous growth. Airbus Defence and Space is developing a SHM System able to diagnose acci-dental events/damages during aircraft operation to provide additional information for maintenance program application. In this paper it is presented the evaluation of this SHM system for a composite fuselage cockpit structure in the diagnosis of mechanical impacts (events) and resulting damages. The system has been applied to composite complex and large structure using the background knowledge of previous studies on composite reinforced flat panels. An analytic elastic wave propagation 2D/3D model for composite material structures supports the event and damage diagnosis. The results indicate the particularities of SHM diagnosis for events and damages in a real composite structure.

Background It is unknown how a femoral derotation osteotomy (FDO) during childhood affects functional outcomes in adulthood among individuals with bilateral cerebral palsy (CP). Research questions How do long-term functional outcomes after an FDO compare to matched individuals who did not have an FDO? How do outcomes change over time? Methods We queried the gait laboratory database for individuals who underwent an external FDO in childhood and were currently ≥25 years old. Participants returned for a long-term analysis (gait, physical examination, functional tests, imaging, questionnaires). The matched non-FDO group included only individuals in Gross Motor Function Classification System levels I-II, yielding three groups (non-FDO I-II, FDO I-II, FDO III-IV). Results Sixty-one adults (11 non-FDO, 34 FDO I-II, 16 FDO III-IV) returned 13–25 years after baseline (non-FDO) or surgery (FDO). The non-FDO and FDO I-II groups were matched at baseline on most variables, except the FDO group had weaker hip abductors. At long-term, groups were similar on gait variables (median long-term hip rotation [primary outcome], non-FDO: −4°, FDO I-II: −4°, FDO III-IV: −5°), hip abduction test, fear of falling, and most pain measures despite anteversion being 29° greater in the non-FDO group. The FDO I-II group reported more falls than the non-FDO group. All groups improved on hip rotation, foot progression, and hip abductor strength. Speed and step length decreased/tended to decrease for all three groups. Hip abduction moment and gait deviation index did not change. Improvements in the FDO groups were maintained from short- to long-term. Significance These results challenge the notion that an FDO is necessary to correct mean stance hip rotation for higher functioning individuals since nearly identical results were achieved by adulthood in the non-FDO I-II group. However, an FDO provides improvement earlier and maintenance from short- to long-term. This should factor into the shared decision-making process.

Background The clinical significance of conduction disturbances after transcatheter aortic valve implantation has been described; however, little is known about the influence of baseline ECGs in the prognosis of these patients. Our aim was to study the influence of baseline ECG parameters, including interatrial block (IAB), in the prognosis of patients treated with transcatheter aortic valve implantation. Methods and Results The BIT (Baseline Interatrial Block and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation) registry included 2527 patients with aortic stenosis treated with transcatheter aortic valve implantation. A centralized analysis of baseline ECGs was performed. Patients were divided into 4 groups: normal P wave duration (P =0.010]) and of the composite end point (death/stroke/new atrial fibrillation) (HR, 1.51; 95% CI, 1.17–1.94 [ P =0.001]). Conclusions Baseline ECG characteristics influence the prognosis of patients with aortic stenosis treated with transcatheter aortic valve implantation. Advanced IAB is present in about an eighth of patients and is associated with all‐cause death and the composite end point of death, stroke, and new atrial fibrillation during follow‐up.

Importance: Vascular delay that occurs early in the development of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a risk factor that can be compensated by ensuring a good rate of retinal vascularization to avoid ROP that requires treatment. Background: The objective of the present study was to determine the association between ROP that requires treatment and risk factors such as the extent of the temporal avascular area of the retina and the number of days of mechanical ventilation (MV). Design: Observational retrospective case-control study Participants: Two hundred and twenty-eight premature newborns included in the screening protocol for retinopathy of prematurity. Methods: Subjects underwent retinal examination in the 4th and 6th postnatal weeks. Main outcome measures: The temporal avascular area was measured in disc diameters (DD), while the MV time was measured in days of treatment. Results: Patients with a longer MV time had a higher risk of treatment (R2: 24.7, p < 0.0001; increase in risk of 8.1% for each additional day), as did those who showed greater avascular area (R2: 24.7, p < 0.0001; increase in risk of 111% for each additional DD). An online calculator system and a table are presented for calculating the risk of ROP requiring treatment as a function of these two risk factors. Conclusions and relevance: The temporal avascular area of the retina and MV time must be taken into account in the first examination of the newborn to predict the need for ROP treatment.

The optical profilometry techniques have become more and more used in dynamic 3-D shape measurement. In particular, there are two problems to overcome. One is to recover the phase from a single fringe. The second problem is the phase recovering from a pattern avoiding that the harmonics introduced by the projector. In this work, we analyzed two kinds of techniques: off-axis and slightly off-axis interferometry algorithms for phase retrieval. The Hilbert transform is implemented in both cases. Validation experiments are presented.

In this paper, we introduce an iterative scheme for phase demodulation of interferograms with nonuniformly spaced phase shifts. Our proposal consists of two stages: first, the phase map is obtained through a least squares fitting; second, the phase steps are retrieved using a statistical robust estimator. In particular, we use Tukey’s biweighted M-estimator because it can cope with both noisy data and outliers in comparison with the ordinary least squares estimator. Furthermore, we provide the frequency description of the algorithm and the phase demodulation allowing us to analyze the procedure and estimation according to the frequency transfer function (FTF) formalism for phase-shifting algorithms. Results show that our method can accurately retrieve the phase map and phase shifts, and it converges by the 10th iteration.

The electrocardiogram records the heart&rsquo, s electrical activity and generates a significant amount of data. The analysis of these data helps us to detect diseases and disorders via heart bio-signal abnormality classification. In unbalanced-data contexts, where the classes are not equally represented, the optimization and configuration of the classification models are highly complex, reflecting on the use of computational resources. Moreover, the performance of electrocardiogram classification depends on the approach and parameter estimation to generate the model with high accuracy, sensitivity, and precision. Previous works have proposed hybrid approaches and only a few implemented parameter optimization. Instead, they generally applied an empirical tuning of parameters at a data level or an algorithm level. Hence, a scheme, including metrics of sensitivity in a higher precision and accuracy scale, deserves special attention. In this article, a metaheuristic optimization approach for parameter estimations in arrhythmia classification from unbalanced data is presented. We selected an unbalanced subset of those databases to classify eight types of arrhythmia. It is important to highlight that we combined undersampling based on the clustering method (data level) and feature selection method (algorithmic level) to tackle the unbalanced class problem. To explore parameter estimation and improve the classification for our model, we compared two metaheuristic approaches based on differential evolution and particle swarm optimization. The final results showed an accuracy of 99.95%, a F1 score of 99.88%, a sensitivity of 99.87%, a precision of 99.89%, and a specificity of 99.99%, which are high, even in the presence of unbalanced data.

Background & aim Worldwide, measures are being implemented to eradicate hepatitis B (HBV) and C (HCV) viruses, which can be transmitted from the mother during childbirth. This study aims to determine the prevalence of HBV and HCV in pregnant women in Spain, focusing on country of origin, epidemiological factors and risk of vertical transmission (VT). Methodology Multicentre open-cohort study performed during 2015. HBV prevalence was determined in 21870 pregnant women and HCV prevalence in 7659 pregnant women. Epidemiological and risk factors for VT were analysed in positive women and differences between HBV and HCV cases were studied. Results HBV prevalence was 0.42% (91/21870) and HCV prevalence was 0.26% (20/7659). Of the women with HBV, 65.7% (44/67) were migrants. The HBV transmission route to the mother was unknown in 40.3% of cases (27/67) and VT in 31.3% (21/67). Among risk factors for VT, 67.7% (42/62) of the women had viraemia and 14.5% (9/62) tested HBeAg-positive. All of the neonates born to HBV-positive mothers received immunoprophylaxis, and none contracted infection by VT. In 80% (16/20) of the women with HCV, the transmission route was parenteral, and nine were intravenous drug users. Viraemia was present in 40% (8/20) of the women and 10% (2/20) were HIV-coinfected. No children were infected. Women with HCV were less likely than women with HBV to breastfeed their child (65% vs. 86%). Conclusions The prevalences obtained in our study of pregnant women are lower than those previously documented for the general population. Among the women with HBV, the majority were migrants and had a maternal family history of infection, while among those with HCV, the most common factor was intravenous drug use. Despite the risk factors observed for VT, none of the children were infected. Significance Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is characterized by oculomotor abnormalities. However, the eye movement pattern of children with ADHD during reading has yet to be fully determined. This investigation provides novel insights into the altered eye movement pattern during oral reading of nonmedicated children with pure ADHD in comparison with age-matched controls. Purpose The purpose of this study was to objectively compare the eye movement pattern during oral reading in a group of nonmedicated children with pure ADHD and an age-matched control group. Methods Forty-one children, 21 children with pure ADHD (9.3 ± 2.2 years, 15 boys) and 20 control children (9.3 ± 2.5 years, 10 boys), orally read a standardized text according to their age while the eye movement pattern was objectively recorded using the Visagraph Eye Movement recording system. Results The Bayesian statistical analyses revealed that children with ADHD exhibited a significantly higher number of fixations (Bayes factor 10 [BF10] = 3.39), regressions (BF10 = 9.97), saccades in return sweeps (BF10 = 4.63), and anomalies of fixations and regressions (BF10 = 3.66) compared with controls. In addition, children with ADHD significantly showed longer reading times (BF10 = 31.29), as well as lower reading rate (BF10 = 156.74) and grade-level equivalent (BF10 = 168.24) in comparison with controls. Conclusions Our data showed that the nonmedicated children with pure ADHD have an altered eye movement pattern during oral reading when compared with controls, which cannot be attributable to any comorbid condition. The present outcomes may help to understand the link between ADHD and reading performance and design the most pertinent strategies to enhance the reading skills of this population.

Se diseñó un estudio descriptivo retrospectivo de corte transversal con el objetivo de describir las características clínico-epidemiológicas del paciente intervenido de cirugía cardíaca, evidenciándose un predominio del sexo masculino con una edad promedio de 61,7 años. La HTA, la DM y las dislipidemias se destacan entre las comorbilidades. he scarcity of nursing assessment protocols based on the clinical-epidemiological characteristics of the patient undergoing cardiac surgery prevents its comprehensive approach. A retrospective descriptive cross-sectional study was designed with the aim of describing the clinical-epidemiological characteristics of the patient undergoing cardiac surgery, showing a predominance of males with an average age of 61.7 years. HT, DM and dyslipidemias stand out among the comorbidities.

Temperature is widely known as one of the most important drivers to forecast electricity and gas variables, such as the load. Because of that reason, temperature forecasting is and has been for years of great interest for energy forecasters and several approaches and methods have been published. However, these methods usually do not consider temperature trend, which causes important error increases when dealing with medium- or long-term estimations. This paper presents several temperature forecasting methods based on time series decomposition and analyzes their results and the trends of 37 different European countries, proving their annual average temperature increase and their different behaviors regarding trend and seasonal components.

Food markets are becoming popular as new spaces for recreation, and this research aims to discover the motivations driving the tourists that visit these markets. Factorial analysis, cluster analysis and Student&rsquo, s t-test were applied on 456 surveys from two food markets in C&oacute, rdoba (Spain). Three motivational factors were obtained: Gastronomic experience and novelty, hedonism and leisure, and the relationship of the experience with work. Segmenting and analyzing the profile of the tourist may help economic agents develop new strategies for the tourism management of a destination and more accurate marketing and branding strategies that target specific customers with a niche message. The study could help develop products that align with tourists&rsquo, motives to increase satisfaction and loyalty.

Renewable energy plays a key role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. However, the expansion of wind farms has raised concerns about risks for bird collisions. We tested different methods used to understand whether birds' flight occurs over wind turbines and found kernel density estimators outperform other methods. Previous studies using kernel utilization distribution (KUD) have considered only the 2 horizontal dimensions (2D). However, if altitude is ignored, an unrealistic depiction of the situation may result because birds move in 3 dimensions (3D). We quantified the 3D space use of the Griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus) in El Estrecho natural park in Tarifa (southern Spain, on the northern shore of the Strait of Gibraltar) during 2012-2013, and, for the first time, their risk of collision with wind turbines in an area in the south of Spain. The 2D KUD showed a substantial overlap of the birds' flight paths with the wind turbines in the study area, whereas the 3D kernel estimate did not show such overlap. Our aim was to develop a new approach using 3D kernel estimation to understand the space use of soaring birds; these are killed by collision with wind turbines more often than any other bird types in southern Spain. We determined the probability of bird collision with an obstacle within its range. Other potential application areas include airfields, plane flight paths, and tall buildings. (c) 2020 The Authors. Background: Indole tryptophan metabolites (ITMs), mainly produced at the gastrointestinal level, participate in bidirectional gut-brain communication and have been implicated in neuropsychiatric pathologies, including attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Method: A total of 179 children, 5-14 years of age, including a healthy control group (CG, n = 49), and 107 patients with ADHD participated in the study. The ADHD group was further subdivided into predominantly attention deficit (PAD) and predominantly hyperactive impulsive (PHI) subgroups. Blood samples were drawn at 20:00 and 09:00 hours, and urine was collected between blood draws, at baseline and after 4.63 ± 2.3 months of methylphenidate treatment in the ADHD group. Levels and daily fluctuations of ITM were measured by tandem mass spectrometer, and S100B (as a glial inflammatory marker) by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Factorial analysis of variance (Stata 12.0) was performed with groups/subgroups, time (baseline/after treatment), hour of day (morning/evening), and presence of depressive symptoms (DS; no/yes) as factors. Results: Tryptamine and indoleacetic acid (IAA) showed no differences between the CG and ADHD groups. Tryptamine exhibited higher evening values (p < 0.0001) in both groups. No changes were associated with methylphenidate or DS. At baseline, in comparison with the rest of study sample, PHI with DS+ group showed among them much greater morning than evening IAA (p < 0.0001), with treatment causing a 50% decrease (p = 0.002). Concerning indolepropionic acid (IPA) MPH was associated with a morning IPA decrease and restored the daily profile observed in the CG. S100B protein showed greater morning than evening concentrations (p = 0.001) in both groups. Conclusion: Variations in ITM may reflect changes associated with the presence of DS, including improvement, among ADHD patients.

International audience; Smartphones (SMPs) play a vital role in the lives of young people and in the university classroom. There are few studies of the use of SMPs by university students, and the existing knowledge is inconsistent and lacking consensus. This article shows the validity of a theoretical model of the use of SMPs in higher education, in the context of the theory of uses and gratifications, and the knowledge gained from previous studies on the use of SMPs by adolescents. The results suggest the existence of a specific educational function for the use of SMPs in university classrooms. Despite the emergent nature of this function, the educational use of SMPs in higher education presents potential consolidation as a source of gratification and satisfaction of educational needs. Their inclusion in the everyday activity of university classrooms will require considerable effort to adapt the educational system, and the training of students and teaching staff must be improved in order to reduce possible interference in learning the communicative and expressive play functions of SMPs.

While the current global context of successive economic and health crises are punishing the economies of different countries in the world, it is particularly relevant to explore the business intentions of young university students, as potential entrepreneurs of opportunity. This matter is of the utmost importance, as it helps to facilitate the implementation of measures that can ensure the future recovery of the economy and the creation of new businesses. The objective of this paper is to study the institutional and psychological antecedents of entrepreneurial intention and the role of gender. The theory of planned behaviour is applied to assess how personal attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control can affect students&prime, intention of becoming an entrepreneur. In addition, organizational support and institutional barriers are tested as potentially significant antecedents of entrepreneurial intention, along with the influence of gender. The research carried out was based on survey responses from a sample of 740 students of economics, communications, and education at an Ecuadorian university. The research propositions were tested using a partial least squares approach. Results indicate that behaviour towards entrepreneurship does not change in relation to gender. In addition, personal attitudes and perceived behavioural control regarding entrepreneurship are positively related to students&prime, entrepreneurial intention. Organizational support is also found to be important for generating entrepreneurial intention. The paper adds to the current knowledge base on entrepreneurial intention by analysing the individual and joint influence of the principal elements of the theory of planned behaviour, as well as organizational support and institutional barriers on entrepreneurial intentions. Moreover, the research provides a useful perspective on the antecedents of entrepreneurial intention in an unexplored context such as Ecuador, by responding to the call focusing on entrepreneurial intention in different regions, cultures, and contexts.

Melatonin, produced in every cell that possesses mitochondria, acts as an endogenous free radical scavenger, and improves energetic metabolism and immune function, by complex molecular crosstalk with other intracellular compounds. There is greatly increasing evidence regarding beneficial effects of acute and chronic administration of high melatonin doses, in infectious, developmental, and degenerative pathologies, as an endothelial cell and every cell protectant.

Software development has passed from being rigid and not very flexible, to be automated with constant changes. This happens due to the creation of continuous integration and delivery environments. Nevertheless, developers often rely on such environments due to the large number of amenities they offer. They focus on authentication only, without taking into consideration other aspects of security such as the integrity of the source code and of the compiled binaries. The source code of a software project must not be maliciously modified. Notwithstanding, there is no safe method to verify that its integrity has not been violated. Trusted computing technology, in particular, the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) can be used to implement that secure method.

In liberalized electricity markets, aggregated stepwise supply and demand curves are at the core of many relevant processes. Efficient and meaningful representations of the offer curves is an essential procedure for agents participating in those markets. However, there is not a formal framework that allows operating with those offer curves using basic arithmetic operations. In this paper we first formalize the concept of stepwise offer curve by explicitly defining the standard True Offer Curve (TOC). To overcome the inherit difficulties of this non-continuous TOC, we propose the Encoded Offer Curve (EOC), a continuous piecewise version that approximates the steps of the TOC with high accuracy. We present fast and simple specialized algorithms to obtain both TOC and EOC models, as well as a formal framework to deal with elementary mathematical operations involving TOCs and EOCs. The proposed framework has been tested in the Italian electricity market, computing the residual demand curves of the producers in a particular Market Zone; and in the Iberian electricity market, quantifying the differences in the bidding behavior of market agents in different stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The pandemic influenza virus A (H1N1) in 2009, which was initially associated with pigs (swine flu), could have had a negative influence on attitudes toward xenotransplantation (XT), particularly after the social alarm it caused. The objective of this study was to analyze the impact of this pandemic on the acceptance of XT among veterinary science students. Methods A control group sample was taken of students registered in the veterinary degree course (academic year 2007–2008). For the study group, the study was repeated on the same students (year 2008–2009) after the pandemic (April 2009). Pair-matching was carried out between both groups taking into account that (1) the questionnaire was anonymous but included the student's initials and (2) when the study was repeated, the students were in the next academic year. Attitude was assessed using a validated questionnaire. Results After comparing the surveys from the control group (n = 515) and study group (n = 465), 287 matched pairs were obtained. Acceptance of organ XT did not differ significantly before and after the outbreak, assuming similar results to those using human organs (89% vs 89%; P = .10) or with a greater risk than human donation (10% vs 13%; P = .37). There was no difference between the attitude toward tissue XT before and after (94% vs 93%; P = .69) and toward cell XT (97% vs 98%; P = .30); 82% (n = 236) believed that the pandemic had not changed their perception of XT, although 43% (n = 124) considered that it had negatively affected society's perception. Conclusion The pandemic influenza virus A (H1N1) did not change the attitude of veterinary science students toward XT.

Purpose: To assess the validity of the online WINROP algorithm in two Spanish populations of premature infants.Materials and methods: The study population consisted of 502 premature infants born in the San Cecilio University Hospital of Granada and the Regional University Hospital of Malaga in the years 2000-2015. The WINROP algorithm was used to determine an alarm threshold for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). The results were compared with those obtained from serial examinations of premature infants.Results: The global WINROP algorithm showed a sensitivity of 62%, specificity of 74%, positive predictive value (PPV) of 59%, and negative predictive value (NPV) of 77%. This algorithm showed a greater sensitivity (76%) to identify severe ROP.Conclusions: The WINROP screening algorithm in this study showed moderate sensitivity, so many ROP cases amenable to treatment were not detected. Other criteria should be added to the algorithm to increase the sensitivity.

In the field of casting aluminum alloys, integrated computational materials engineering (ICME) is a relatively emerging trend. Through mathematical modeling, new alloys that meet the requirements of the industry can be generated. However, the development of a new alloy with particular attributes is still an enormous challenge; testing the individual possible combinations is numerous. There are several dozen different metals, and even if the alloys are binary, there are many alternatives. This makes ICME a suitable and practical tool to predict the behavior of new alloys. In this paper, the presented model when used to characterize the behavior of alloys shows a reliability level superior to 90%. The mathematical description of the model is also presented. It can be used as a reliable tool for the selection of the desired elements in its composition letting the selection of the most important properties according to the industrial needs and standards.

Being one of the most frequently killed raptors by collision with wind turbines, little is known about the Griffon vulture's flight strategies and behaviour in a fine scale. In this study, we used high-resolution tracking data to differentiate between the most frequently observed flight types of the Griffon, and evaluated the performance of our proposed approach by an independent observation during a period of 4 weeks of fieldwork. Five passive flight types including three types of soaring and two types of gliding were discriminated using the patterns of measured GPS locations. Of all flight patterns, gliding was classified precisely (precision = 88%), followed by linear and thermal soaring with precision of 83 and 75%, respectively. The overall accuracy of our classification was 70%. Our study contributes a baseline technique using high-resolution tracking data for the classification of flight types, and is one step forward towards the collision management of this species.

Introducción. Este trabajo estudia las competencias intrapersonales que determinan el perfil emprendedor del alumnado en la Educación Superior en Turismo para comprobar si existen diferencias significativas según género como diagnóstico y punto de partida de la situación para futuros planes de estudio.Método. Se realizó una encuesta a estudiantes de Educación Superior en Turismo de la Universidad de Córdoba (España) y se analizaron las competencias intrapersonales relacionadas con el emprendimiento y ciertas variables moderadoras sociodemográficas y de formación. Para el análisis de los datos se han realizado modelos de regresión logit sobre intención emprendedora, por género.Resultados. Los resultados muestran que las mujeres tienen mayor disciplina y responsabilidad que los hombres, características básicas para la creación de empresas, sin embargo, presenta una menor propensión hacia el emprendimiento, y ninguna competencia significativa relacionada con el riesgo o la iniciativa.Discusión y Conclusión. Se intuye que las estrategias de educación desde la niñez pueden ser desalentadoras de este tipo de actitudes. Se propone la necesidad de realizar políticas educativas específicas para las alumnas en los distintos niveles educativos, que fomenten estas competencias relacionadas con el emprendimiento.

This study presents the main results of a survey of a sample of Spanish firms which include competitive intelligence and/or technology watch (TW) services in their organigrams or which are consumers of such intelligence products. The objectives were to acquire information on (i) the model (whether centralized or decentralized) of their intelligence services and personnel and their consumption of external intelligence consulting services and TW platforms; (ii) the methods they use to determine what information they need; (iii) the means they use to obtain that information; (iv) areas in which they seek information (competitors, consumers, economic situation, etc.); (v) their methods of analysis; (vi) the products generated by that analysis; and (vii) how they promote intelligence tasks internally. The results and the main conclusions are provided in the corresponding sections.

Resumen Introduccion La aplasia cutis congenita (ACC) es un padecimiento dermico de presentacion poco frecuente que se caracteriza por la ausencia de piel al nacimiento y se asocia a malformaciones craneales, faciales, dermicas y oseas. El diagnostico es fundamentalmente clinico. Caso clinico Masculino de 5 dias de vida extrauterina, producto unico de madre primigesta y sin antecedentes familiares de relevancia. La exploracion fisica revelo defectos simetricos y bilaterales en la piel de ambas extremidades inferiores caracterizados por fragilidad cutanea, costras y ulceras recubiertas de pseudomembranas, asociados a una disminucion del espacio interdigital de ortejos de pie izquierdo, retraccion del pie y genu varum . Se manejo con aloinjertos de epidermis cultivado in vitro , cuidados generales de las heridas y seguimiento clinico posterior. Discusion La ACC asociada a epidermolisis ampollosa es una de las formas de presentacion menos frecuente. Es necesario descartar otro tipo de patologias dermicas. Se recomienda manejo clinico con cubierta cutanea biologica o sintetica, prevencion de infecciones, tratamiento oportuno de las complicaciones y seguimiento clinico.
