The stability of the electron beam position is one of the main issues for third generation synchrotron radiation sources. A fast local feedback system based on digital signal processing techniques has been designed and installed on ELETTRA. After a characterization of the main system components, the design choices are presented. The software environment used for system development and measurements is described.

The Belle II VerteX Detector (VXD) is a 6 layers silicon tracker device that will cope with an unprecedented luminosity of 8×1035 cm−2s−1 achievable by the new SuperKEKB e+e− collider, at the KEK laboratory (Tsukuba, Japan). All environment parameters such as temperature, humidity and radiation levels, must be constantly monitored and under certain conditions action must be promptly taken, such as interlocking the power supply or delivering an abort signal to the SuperKEKB collider. In this contribution we describe the Belle II VXD monitoring system. We also present the first results of the temperature and humidity system commissioned in a Beam Test at DESY in April 2016 and the preliminary results of the radiation monitoring achieved with a prototype system during the first SuperKEKB commissioning phase at KEK in February-June 2016.

Over the last decade, synchrotron radiation sources have seen a significant increase in brilliance, and the advent of free electron lasers has made entire new research fields accessible to investigations with X-rays. These advances in light source capabilities have resulted not only in a host of scientific advances and discoveries, but also in a need for a new generation of X-ray imaging detectors that can match the sources' capabilities in terms of frame rate and image dynamic range while recording image information with fine granularity over a large - preferably uninterrupted - (multi)megapixel area with single-photon sensitivity. Developing such next-generation imagers is both costly and time-consuming, and the requirements at many photon science facilities are similar enough to invite a collaborative effort. The Percival ("Pixellated Energy Resolving CMOS Imager, Versatile And Large") imager is being developed by a collaboration of DESY, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL), Elettra, and Diamond Light Source (DLS) to answer this need for the soft X-ray regime

International audience; Diamond is a promising material for the production of semitransparent in situ photon beam monitors which can withstand the high dose rates occurring in new generation synchrotron radiation storage rings and in free electron lasers. We report on the development of a 500 mu m thick freestanding, single crystal chemical vapor deposited diamond detector with segmented electrodes. Performances in both low and radio frequency beam monitoring are presented as well. By using charge integration techniques at a frame rate of 6.5 kHz in combination with a needle synchrotron radiation beam and mesh scans, the inhomogeneity of the sensor was found to be of the order of 2%; with a measured electronics noise of 2 pA / root Hz a 0.05% relative precision in the intensity measurements (at 1 mu A) and a 0.1 mu m resolution in the position encoding have been estimated. Moreover, the high electron-hole mobility of diamond compared with other active materials enables very fast charge collection characterized by rise-times below 1 ns; this allowed us to utilize single pulse integration to simultaneously detect the intensity and the position of each synchrotron radiation photon bunch generated by a bending magnet

The Super‐ESCA beamline has been designed for high resolution core level spectroscopy of adsorbates on single crystal surfaces using soft x‐ray synchrotron radiation. It receives the light from an 81 period undulator with 5.6 cm period and 4.5 m length in the storage ring ELETTRA. The tunability of this insertion device, at a storage ring electron energy of 2.0 GeV and the connected modified SX700 monochromator allows the performance of experiments at this beamline in the photon energy range 100–2000 eV. This beamline is now operational and first absorption spectra are presented which show available resolving powers varying from 8000 to 3000 for photon energies between 240 and 850 eV.
