Purpose This paper aims to extend the existing triple bottom line framework (Prosperity, People and Planet [so-called 3Ps]) with a new dimension, namely, Prophet, to reflect Islamic values (the now 4Ps) for banks seeking compliance with Islamic religious principles. Design/methodology/approach This study conducts a survey of 504 Islamic bank stakeholders across six provinces in Indonesia and use regression analysis to test the applicability of the 4Ps. This paper further examines their application in two large Islamic banks in Indonesia and Malaysia. Findings The models are all highly significant and well reflect a broad stakeholder perspective on bank performance. Of the four elements, this study finds stakeholders rank Prosperity first, followed by Prophet and then Planet. The case studies strengthen the application of the new Prophet dimension as a way for Islamic banks to improve their financial, social and economic performance, particularly during periods of financial distress. Research limitations/implications This study only uses survey data from a single country, and this may limit the generalizability of the findings. Practical implications Practitioners will find the quadruple bottom line useful in assessing organizational performance, as will regulators seeking to improve the social and economic outcomes of the Islamic banking sector. Originality/value This paper internalises maqasid al-syari’ah (the most basic goal of Islamic law) as a simple but essential approach to organizational performance using empirical evidence from a real-world banking setting.

PurposeThe study aims to extend the conventional triple bottom line (TBL) framework (prosperity, people and planet) to the quadruple bottom line (QBL) by newly adding a “prophet” dimension for Islamic banks seeking compliance with Islamic law in their pursuit of sustainability.Design/methodology/approachEmploy Chapra's corollaries of maqasid al-shari'ah (the goals of Islamic law) to develop constructs for a survey of 504 Islamic bank stakeholders from five Indonesian provinces to gather primary data to quantitatively verify the dimensions and items in the proposed QBL framework. Categorical principal component analysis (CATPCA) then identifies the sustainability of ten Islamic banks from ten countries as a trial application of the resulting QBL index.FindingsUsing the dimensions and items identified using CATPCA, the authors develop a QBL index to assess the sustainability of the ten Islamic banks. The findings suggest that half of the banks are sufficiently sustainable, with three being proactive (doing more than is required) and two being accommodative (doing all that is required). The remaining five banks are unsustainable, with two banks being defensive (doing the least that is required) and three being reactive (doing less than is required). Most of the banks perform relatively poorly according to the “planet” (38%) and “people” (41%) dimensions and perform better on the “prosperity” (53%) and “prophet” (63%) dimensions. Nonetheless, there is ample room for improvement across all dimensions of sustainability.Research limitations/implicationsThe generalizability of the findings is limited by the small-scale single-country survey used in the CATPCA part of the analysis. Only ten Islamic banks were included in the QBL scoring and ranking exercisesPractical implicationsIslamic banks can improve their sustainability by increasing green financing and reaching out to rural areas and disadvantaged populations. In countries with Islamic banking systems, regulators can support this through training, guidance and incentives.Originality/valuePioneering exploration of TBL from maqasid al-shari'ah perspective. First, we develop a QBL index to assess the sustainability of Islamic banks in line with actual stakeholder expectations.

This study aimed to determine the efficiency and effectiveness of the use of PGF2α and ovsynch (PGF2α and GnRH) estrous synchronization hormones on their ability to have an impact in the form of estrous and pregnancy symptoms in Madura cow. The material used were 182 Madura cows, was consisted by three treatments, namely A treatment with 62 cows; first day (H-0) was injected with PGF2α dose of 2 ml; 11th day (H-11) injected with the same hormone and dosage; then 3-4 days after the second AI (Artificial Insemination) injection directly; treatment B of 60 cows; first day (H-0) injected PGF2α dose 3 ml; 11th day (H-11) is injected again with the same hormone and dosage; then 3-4 days after injection of the second hormone directly AI; C treatments were 60 cows; given ovsynch treatment; that is, on the first day (H-0) injected with a 2.5 ml dose of the GnRH hormone; 8th day (H-8) injected with PGF2α dose 2 ml; the 10th day was injected again with the second GnRH hormone (2.5 ml dose), then the 11th day was directly AI. Sampling was done by purposive sampling method, which was choosing a cow that has a body condition score (BCS) between 5-7, normal reproductive organs and not in a state of pregnancy. The study design used a completely randomized design; Data were analyzed using the Kruskal Wallis test. The results showed that the administration of synchronous hormones to the percentage of estrous and pregnancy rate in all treatments showed no significantly different results (P > 0.05). The average percentage of estrous Madura cows in all treatments was 94.50%, while the average pregnancy rate was 68.66%, the highest yield in treatment C was 73.33%; followed by treatments A and B respectively 70.97% and 61.67%.

The objective of this paper is to find out and illustrate the concept of branding that comply with Islamic law. The research method used in this study is a literature review, with books and journals as the main data sources, while using the view point of the Qur'an, Hadith, Ijtihad of the scholars, and other scientific works that related to the research. This study introduces the concept of branding that comply with sharia law that covers the role of branding in business, i.e.: as a differentiator, as an advertisement and appeal, as an image-building tool and as a market controller. Branding ethics in Islam including positive image, Islamic products, fair prices, Islamic brands and advertisement variables that have been adapted to comply the rules of Islamic muamalah, and various examples of branding practices in Indonesia that is sharia compliant, for example: Rabbani brand, Wardah cosmetics, and Sofyan hotel. In this case, branding practice that comply with Islamic ethics is not just an idealistic theory, but it can realistically be applied on practice and has been proven to yield positive brand image and loyality from their consumers.

The objective of this paper is to propose a model for a financing guarantee scheme (FGS) funded by the voluntary sector (through zakat, infaq, and sadaqah, or ZIS funds) to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). We argue that the existing credit guarantee scheme (CGS) relies on government funding, but that in the current Covid-19 pandemic it is experiencing unstable financial capability. Hence, the sustainability of the CGS program is questionable. We employ the input-output (I-O) approach to identify the expected impact if the proposed FGS is applied. We further substantiate the proposal with seven Indonesian Syariah experts’ opinions, of whom five suggest that the alternative scheme is acceptable. The simulation using I-O shows that if IDR1 trillion (out of IDR10 trillion from ZIS funds in 2019) is disbursed through the scheme, this will increase economic growth by 0.0117%, representing economic activities worth IDR1.235 trillion, and creating 2,151 new jobs. We further discuss the implications of the findings for the Islamic banking industry in the future and for regulators.

Valgus deformity (VD) accounts for only 10% of total knee arthroplasties (TKAs), but is frequently considered the most challenging to manage. The aim of this study was to review outcome of primary total knee arthroplasty for severe valgus deformity at Hasan Sadikin Hospital, Bandung. Methods: From January 2015 and December 2017 consecutive patients undergoing unconstrained primary total knee arthroplasty with severe VD, grade II and III were enrolled in a prospective observational cohort study. Preoperatively, at 6 weeks, and 2 years after surgery, patients completed the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS), the Oxford Knee Score (OKS), and the Knee Society Score (KSS, 2011, modified version). Femorotibial angle were measured on the frontal standing X-rays. Results and Discussions: There were twenty-four patients (18 women, 6 men) with mean age of 66 years (55 - 80). The knee range of motion improved from a mean of 71 degrees preoperatively to a mean of 95 degrees. KOOS Quality of life had increased significantly 6 weeks – 2 years after surgery. KOOS pain mean score was 40.3 points before surgery and increased significantly to 86.6 at two year follow up. OKS mean score increased from 22.1 to 41.8 two years after surgery. KSS 2011 mean objective score increased from 22 to 96 and mean function score increased from 32 to 81 two years after surgery. The mean femorotibial angle were improved from valgus 32.72º±9.68º pre-operation to 4.89º±0.90º post-operation (P Conclusion: Primary total knee arthroplasty can be effective and safe for severe valgus deformity and the clinical results up to two years after surgery are promising. As our results show, if proper ligament balancing techniques are used and proper ligament balance is attained, the knee may not require the use of a more constrained components.

The Indonesian banking sector has been stable and generally sound over the past decade, partly through efforts by the Bank of Indonesia as Indonesia's central bank and Otoritas Jasa Keuangan as its financial services regulator. This chapter identifies important issues that remain for both conventional and Islamic banking in Indonesia. Authors suggest the government continue its efforts to reform what remains a geographically concentrated industry, to increase the role of bank credit in the economy, and to widen the provision of banking services through technology. Authors highlight the vulnerability of smaller banks in Indonesia to ongoing competitive market pressures and the necessity of creating larger banks through merger or capital raising and improving credit allocation to small and medium-sized businesses. Islamic banking has an important role to play in these developments, and those relating to Islamic social banking.

To ensure a safe train operation, some devices are applied to control the infrastructure and rolling stock work safely such as track, signalling system especially on densely trafficked lines using automatic train protection, rolling stock and etc. Track is a main part of infrastructure that has to be monitored before train operation passes it. By operation times, the rail will be decreased in quality due to several factors such as temperature and material durability. One type of rail damage that is often encountered is broken rails. If the rail breaks, the train passes through it can be derailed. To address this problem, a rail damage detection system will be developed using a laser beam. This rail detection laser will be designed as a prototype. The railroad tested was designed to have a gap that varies between 2 and 20 millimeters. A laser-based proximity sensor VL53L0X is placed between the front and rear wheels of the train prototype. Testing this system is successful in a dynamic way. It means that the measurement is done by advancing the prototype manually by hand, not using electricity. The results obtained from dynamic testing are obtained if the rail gap is wider, the range of peak values detected is greater based on monitoring through graphs.

Parking space is one of the most critical needs of people’s lives, especially in Indonesia. According to the Central Statistics Agency, vehicle growth in Indonesia in the last ten years is 9% per year. Meanwhile, parking needs are being eroded by settlements, shops, and public service buildings. Limited parking lots make it hard for drivers to find available parking spaces. When looking for a parking space, it was causing impacts such as traffic jams, air pollution, causing noise and panic. The intelligent parking system is the solution to this problem. This system can provide information on available parking slots. In this study, parking locations are marked with a circle. If a circle is visible, then a parking lot is available, and if not, then the parking location has been filled by the vehicle. Circle objects in images taken using the camera can be identified by the Hough transformation method or feature extraction. These two methods are compared to measure the accuracy and speed of the process. Experiments and observations on the performance of both methods show that both methods can recognize the location of the available parking slot. The feature extraction method has a better detection speed with an average processing time of 1.1 seconds. The Hough transformation algorithm has an average processing time of 4.1 seconds. Then it can be concluded that the feature extraction method is better applied to the smart parking system.

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of the less optimal managerial ability of principals in improving teacher performance. School organization as a social system is basically a framework in which education management works with its functions. Implementation of the functions will illustrate how the style (andability) of the principal's leadership in managing the school organization. In the education context, especially in relation to optimizing school autonomy, there are at least two important aspects, namely the principal's managerial ability and the teachers' performance. The managerial ability will also determine the teacher's performance in the school. This article discusses managerial abilities of principals including the ability to plan, organize, implement and supervise the improvement of teachers' performance on policies set. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach, type of case study. The results of this study illustrate that principals in improving teacher performance perform several policy strategies ranging from planning, organizing, mobilizing and controlling. While his leadership style shows more the style of a democratic leader.

Blended Wing Body concept offers several advantages compared to traditional aircraft tube and wing concept. The advantages mainly come from the distributed aerodynamic and structural loads, which leads to better aerodynamic performance as well as lighter structural weight. Most of the existing studies were focused on big transport aircraft carrying 400 to 800 passenger. In this study, a conceptual design of a business jet aircraft applying blended wing body concept is carried out. The market forecast for this category of aircraft can reach up to 24000 aircraft in the next 20 years. The possibility of having larger cross section is one of the competitive advantages, notably in a long-range flight. The requirement stated was to fly a trans-atlantic flight and carrying up to 18 passengers. It has to have a low floor height permitting easy passenger access. The design process consists of initial weight estimation, initial sizing, and preliminary aerodynamics, weight and balance and performance analysis. Some design consideration specially related with Blended Wing Body concept will be discussed, i.e. take-off and landing aerodynamics, structural concept, stability and control. The final design resulted in twin-engine aircraft, a Maximum Take-off Weight of 44 ton, cabin floor area of 6.9 x 10 m, winglet and split rudder for directional stability and control, and elevons for longitudinal and lateral control.

The aim of this paper is to develop the wood identification system using two methods, called, Local Binary Pattern (LBP) and Hough Transform (HT). Here, 12 (twelve) varies of wood species form Indonesia will be used as the data sets. The wood species are taken from wood anatomy laboratory, Puslitbang Hasil Hutan (P3HH). Here, the classification method of this research uses Euclidean Distance (ED) to determine the distance of two images of wood. From the classification results, using LBP method is shown better than HT. The weakness of HT method in this paper is HT method can only detecting the circle shape rather than arbitrary shape. By using LBP method, 6 of 12 species are 100% accurate detected. Beside, using HT method, only one species (Cratoxylon formosum) has accuracy 90%.
