Bullying, harassment, and sexual harassment in the workplace are not new issues; they have always existed in various forms. Recent studies have highlighted their impacts on workers and their well-being at work. However, the perception of these problems differ across the United States, Europe, and Asia. These differences are reflected not only in terms of sensitivities, workplace policies, and relevant laws, but also in the language/vocabulary used to designate the same. Psychological harassment is a bitter issue for many who are affected by it. Unfortunately, it remains a less popular topic in academic research. This may be due to the sensitivity associated with the topic, the possible shame and value judgements of those involved, and the myriad cultural differences that complicate its perceptions. This study deals with the characteristics of psychological harassment in workplaces across Hungary and Slovakia. It addresses the following questions: How are the sources of psychological bullying perceived in the two countries, how do victims tolerate the abuse they are subjected to, and what factors influence the same. The study also examines whether the company’s tools for combating psychological bullying in the workplace have an impact on an employee’s decision to leave the organization as a result of mobbing. It conducted quantitative surveys involving 500 Hungarian and 108 Slovakian employees. The results were analyzed by the authors using SPSS version 28 with univariate and multivariate statistical methods. Frequency analysis, ANOVA, T- test and factor analysis, among others, were performed. The results show that the perception of the sources of psychological bullying and the tolerance of the related phenomena depend on a number of personal factors. However, the tools that firms use to deal with mobbing do not necessarily play a determining role in an employee’s decision to leave their workplace following psychological harassment.

AbstractThe majority of research on competitiveness is based on the analysis of quantitative data. There is significantly less research on the soft elements of competitiveness. This research aims to fill this gap in the literature. Starting from the national culture, the authors investigated the impact of trust characteristics of organisational culture on the characteristics of strategy, knowledge management and organisational effectiveness. Respondents (∑943) from five countries on three continents (USA, China, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania) took part in the quantitative research conducted with a questionnaire survey. The analysis was performed using the SPSS and AMOS 27 programs based on the SEM model. The results show that there is a significant relationship between the examined elements of competitiveness (strategy and management), which also show a significant relationship with organisational trust. Through a culture of trust, the interaction between the elements has a significant impact on the characteristics influencing the efficient operation of the organisation and its competitiveness, regardless of the value of Hofstede’s characteristics of different national cultures.

Research in recent years has shown that IT-enabled companies have higher productivity than their competitors. The new and latest technological solutions enrich the range of tools available to workers, ensuring that information is always available, communication is easier, and customers are better served. At the same time, these opportunities also create psycho-social pressures that strain workers’ working and private lives and can lead to further problems of techno-addiction. The study aims to investigate the relationships between the characteristics of technostress and their combined impact on trust within the organization between human-human and human-technology relationships. The quantitative study involved 531 respondents. Responses were analyzed using IBM SPSS 28 and IBM AMOS 27. The results show that there is undoubtedly a close relationship and a mutually generating effect between technostress characteristics, which substantially impact trust within the organization. However, trust is still stronger in personal relationships than in human-technology relationships. According to the respondents, the level of preparedness, technological knowledge, and expectations influence trust in the use of technology, which also affects performance and work-life balance. Research on generations examine and analyse the similarities and differences between various age groups, and their opportunities for cooperation in the labour market, from various perspectives. According to the research, the behaviour and preparedness of each generation are different, the coordination and proper management of which poses challenges for all organisations. This is especially true when staff from national cultures with very distant values work together. The recognition of this problem was the pretext to the present research. The aim of the research is to examine the perception of the under 30 age group socialised and employed in two largely different cultures (Hungarian–Pakistani). Contrary to our assumption, the results of the quantitative research based on an online questionnaire confirm that the respondents do not perceive differently the behaviour, attitudes, expectations regarding work, workplace and employers of Pakistani and Hungarian young people at work. Employers’ perceptions of this age group play a significant role in choosing the tools that affect their retention in the workplace. In this respect, the employees of the studied cultures find similar solutions expedient.

Studies measuring workplace trust in connection with leadership style and leader responsibility have become more and more important in recent years. Interest in the subject has been rising along with the recent introduction of knowledge management systems (KMSs), which has shown to be one of the most important factors of competitiveness. The aim of this research was to examine to what extent leaders of organizations are concerned about the presence of trust and/ or distrust, as well as about the economic consequences of trust and distrust. It also focused on solutions used in KMSs in knowledge-intensive organizations. Based on a model developed by the authors, the significance of a trust-based culture was examined from the viewpoint of economic consequences. Situations were analyzed in which, despite the existence of all knowledgerelated preferences, managers were not concerned about the economic consequences of trust or distrust. To test the system of relations in the model, a questionnaire survey was conducted in two neighboring European countries with different cultures. It has been found out that in most cases, there is a need for the building and/or use of a KMS at a strategic level. Appropriate tools are also used at an operative level (often spontaneously). However, trust as a general cultural prerequisite is often lacking. Businesses do not seem concerned about the consequences of trust and distrust, as related economic impacts are rarely quantified.

At present, more and more researches deals with the characteristic features of generation Y and generation Z. As it is about the present and future generations, corporate success and the competitive operation are determined by the behav our of these generations in the long-run. Researches justifies that there are significant differences between the two generations despite the similarities. These differences appear rather emphasized in the corporate environment when several questions arise at workplaces in the process of cooperation – especially in the field of knowledge-sharing and knowledge transfer-regarding the characteristics of the two generations. Last year, the authors carried out a quantitative research by questionnaires in order to reveal what the managing of these two generations mean for the managers and also what difficulties occur when the two generations cooperate with each other and with elder generations as well. The main question of the research was how to approach the new generations from the view of HR? Although the research cannot be considered representative (410 respondents participated in the survey), it can give a picture about the examined issues. The hypothesis phrased by the authors was justified according to which of the HR activities have to adapt to the requirements of the new generations upon their appearance.

To operate knowledge management system has become an accepted method and a part of everyday life in the biggest companies. The full circle exploitation of advantages and possibilities of this system does not show a hopeful picture. It is especially true when we examine relationships and constructions with other key processes in the operation of a company. Innovation belongs to above mentioned processes. Though every outsider and professional way of thinking sees clearly that knowledge is needed to innovate and knowledge is a basis of knowledge management, but the close connection of the two important processes has not been realized on behalf of success. Defectiveness is especially true in cases of the newest innovation methods. The paper shows the connection of frugal innovation and knowledge management, its theoretical and practical possibilities

Az elmúlt években elfogadottá vált, hogy a szervezetek sikerességében, illetve a hazai és nemzetközi versenyképesség megőrzésében és fejlesztésében a hagyományos sikertényezők mellett egyre fontosabb szerepet játszik az emberi erőforrások menedzselése (HRM/HR) (Gordon – Whitchurch 2007). A fejlett világ országaiban – főleg az angolszász „pionírok” esetében – a közszféra (beleértve az egyetemeket is) messze maga mögött hagyta a normatív jellegű, a formális szabályozáson alapuló „bürokratikus-rendészeti, taylori” rendszert (Karoliny et al. 2003). A 70-es évektől jelentek meg az üzleti megoldások mindenhatóságát és a hatékonyságot hirdető „új közszféramenedzsment” (New Public Management, NPM) modell képviselői, és az 1980-as évek elején elkezdték a széles körű reformprogramok megvalósítását. E törekvések olyan modellt és tapasztalatot nyújtottak, amelyek alkalmazhatók voltak Európa átalakuló országaiban, beleértve hazánkat is. A leírtakhoz kapcsolódva arra vállalkoztunk, hogy – a teljesség igénye nélkül, a szakirodalmi források és tizenegy hazai egyetem gyakorlata alapján – áttekintsük a HR helyzetének átalakulását és modernizációjának lehetőségeit ezen a területen.
