Research is presented describing how current distribution is very sensitive to the distribution of inductance in a multi-strand superconducting cable conductor. When this type of conductor has strands with higher magnetic coupling, frequency causes a dynamic change in current distribution.

An insulated multi-stranded superconductor conductor was investigated to determine current imblance affected by impedance distributions.

High-rate and smooth surface etching of [Al.sub.2][O.sub.3]-TiC has been developed employing inductively coupled plasma (ICP) for HDD bead slider fabrication. The etching rate of 350 nm/min, which is more than seven times that of Ar ion beam etching, and average surface roughness (Ra) of around 20 nm were obtained as a result of optimizing etching gas composition of [Cl.sub.2]/B[Cl.sub.3]/Ar mixture. The role of Ar is both enhancing etching rate of [Al.sub.2][O.sub.3] grain which limits the [Al.sub.2][O.sub.3]-TiC rate and suppressing that of TiC grain to improve the surface roughness. The result of this study demonstrates the feasibility of ICP etching process for fabricating high precision slider with high throughput.
