We aimed to determine whether Neuropilin-1 (NRP1) promotes gastric cancer (GC) metastasis by inducing epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and to clarify its regulatory mechanism. Using the data of GC patients in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Tissue Expression (GTEx) databases, combined with the data of GC patients in our medical center, the effect of NRP1 on the prognosis of GC patients were analyzed. Then, we investigated the role of NRP1 in GC metastasis and its potential mechanism. The level of NRP1 was up-regulated in GC tissues and associated with poor prognosis of GC patients. The expression of NRP1 was closely related to maximum tumor diameter, invasion depth, lymphnode metastasis, distant metastasis, and advanced TNM stage, and was an independent prognostic factor for overall survival (OS) in GC patients. Besides, the results of in vitro indicated that NRP1 could induce EMT to promote the migration and invasion of GC cells by activating PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, and the HGF/c-Met axis was involved in this process. This study determined that NRP1 was a gene that promotes gastric cancer. NRP1 induced EMT to enhance the migration and invasion ability of GC cells by activating PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. NRP1 was an independent prognostic marker for OS in GC patients and expected to be a therapeutic target for GC patients.

To improve pulse contrast in chirped pulse amplification petawatt laser systems, the regenerative amplifier is substituted with a multipass amplifier at the Shanghai Superintense Ultrafast Laser Facility (SULF). To reduce the consequent angular dispersion of the broadband spectrum, a double-grating stretcher is established in the SULF front end. A grating compressor is set up for the 10-PW front end to obtain 20-TW output. An accurate adjustment method of grating attitude (angular position) is presented, which references the direction of gravity, improving dispersion management and focusing ability of the beam. After a pulse passes the front end compressor, its duration and phase in the frequency domain are measured, and the duration can be continuously compressed to &lt, 24 fs.

We applied 3D-printed microwire-array (MWA) structure to boost the energy conversion efficiency of laser proton acceleration. The advanced nano-printing technique allows precise control on the spacing and geometrical size of 3D structures at 100-500 nm resolution. Under irradiation of high contrast laser pulse (15J, 35fs), the MWA target generates over 1.2×1012 protons (> 1MeV) with cut-off energies extending to 25MeV, corresponding to top-end of 8.7% energy conversion efficiency from femtosecond lasers. When comparing to flat foils the efficiency is enhanced by three times, while the cut-off energy is increased by 30-70% depending on their thicknesses. By precisely controlling the array period via 3D nano-printing, we found the dependence of proton energy/conversion-efficiency on the spacing of the MWA. The experimental trend is well reproduced by hydrodynamic and Particle-In-Cell simulations, which reveal for the first time the modulation of pre-plasma profile induced by laser diffraction within the fine structures. Optimal geometry for laser-proton acceleration is therefore strongly modified. Our work validates the use of 3D-printed micro-structures to produce high efficiency laser-driven particle sources and pointed out the new effect in optimizing the experimental conditions.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the most fatal cancers of the digestive system. Despite the development of novel therapeutic methods, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and molecular targeted therapy, the incidence rate of PDAC is almost equal to the mortality rate with 5-year overall survival rate less than 5%. Kras mutation is found in 95% of patient with PDAC specimens, but targeting Kras mutation do not benefit patients with pancreatic cancer in preclinical trials. c-Myc is one of the main effector molecules of the Kras signaling pathway. In this study, we found that dysregulation of FAST kinase-domain-containing protein 2 (FASTKD2) resulted in the poor prognosis of patients with PDAC. Then, we showed that FASTKD2 promoted pancreatic cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Importantly, we demonstrated that c-Myc was transcriptionally increased by FASTKD2/BRD4 axis and responsible for FASTKD2-mediated tumor growth and invasion in pancreatic cancer cells. Collectively, this study uncovered that FASTKD2 promoted cancer cell progression through upregulating Myc expression in pancreatic cancer. FASTKD2 might be a potential target for pancreatic cancer therapy.

Social media can be used proactively to disseminate accurate corporate information and address undesirable consumer behaviors online in order to help counteract negativity in the business environment in the wake of a financial crisis. Social media thus has become a popular open forum for financial institutions such as retail banks to engage in corporate dialogue with consumers. We recommend that financial services firms preemptively use their social media‐based online communities in order to disseminate accurate corporate information in times of a financial crisis. Particularly, firms can choose between a range of reactive and proactive strategies to manage social conflict in the wake of a financial crisis.

Purpose: Xp11.2 translocation renal cell carcinoma (Xp11.2 tRCC) is a rare subtype of renal cell carcinoma (RCC), characterized by translocations of Xp11.2 breakpoints, involving of the transcription factor three gene (TFE3). The aim of our study was to comprehensively characterize the clinical characteristics and outcomes, and to identify risk factors associated with OS and PFS in Xp11.2 tRCC patients.Methods: Literature search on Xp11.2 tRCC was performed using databases such as pubmed EMBASE and Web of Science. Studies were eligible if outcomes data (OS and/or PFS) were reported for patients with a histopathologically confirmed Xp11.2 tRCC. PFS and OS were evaluated using the univariable and multivariable Cox regression model.Results: There were 80 eligible publications, contributing 415 patients. In multivariable analyses, the T stage at presentation was significantly associated with PFS (HR: 3.87; 95% CI: 1.70 to 8.84; p = 0.001). The median time of PFS was 72 months. In the multivariable analyses, age at diagnosis (HR: 2.16; 95% CI: 1.03 to 4.50; p = 0.041), T stage at presentation (HR: 4.44; 95% CI: 2.16 to 9.09; p < 0.001) and metastasis status at presentation (HR: 2.67; 95% CI: 1.12 to 6.41; p = 0.027) were all associated with OS, with a median follow-up time of 198 months.Conclusion: T stage at presentation is the only factor that is associated with both PFS and OS in patients with Xp11.2 tRCC. Also, patients over 45 or with metastases are more likely to have poorer OS.

Using the framework of social support, we aim to examine factors influencing social Word-of-Mouth (WOM) adoption. The proposed research model will be tested among customers who are active in the existing active social media platforms and have had experience in engaging with the activities of luxury brand communications. Introduction Today the most promising communication environment for reaching and interacting with stakeholders is the social media ecosystem (Hanna, Rohm and Crittenden, 2011). The social media has grown so rapidly in the past years that now impact the business processes and models (Henning-Thurau, Hofacker and Bloching, 2103). Many Brands begin to take advantage of the fluidity between social media and WOM for creating brand experiences that merge real and digital conversations, cutting through in incredibly powerful ways. However, the recent research (Godey, Manthiou, Pederzopli, Rokka, Aiello, Donvito and Sigh, 2016) suggest that luxury brands performing well in social media engagement. However, they are often lagged behind in WOM performance. Despite growing interest in examining the influence of social media marketing on consumer’s responses through brand equity creation (Godey et al., 2016; Jim and Ko, 2012), studies about social media in luxury brand communications remain to be scarce. An investigation of customer’s motivation behind participation in social media is timely and relevant which can help luxury brands unleash its potential. Moreover, development of an effective social WOM adoption model can help to provide a better picture of consumer interactions in online luxury brands communities, thus strengthen customerfirm relationship in longer term. Specifically, this research intends to answer the following two questions: 1) What are the major determinants of social WOM adoption in luxury brands communications? 2) Whether social support affects a. perceived source credibility; b. perceived information quality; c. user experience? Literature reviewSocial media interactivity The concepts of social exchange (Blau, 1964) and the norm of reciprocity (Gouldner, 1960) have long been used by Marketing researchers to describe the motivational basis behind customer behaviours and the formation of positive relational attitudes (e.g., Wulf; Gaby; Iacobucci, Dawn, 2001; Rafiq; Fulford and Lu 2013). More recently these concepts have been used to explain why customers enjoy interacting with each other in social media (Liang, Ho, Li and Turban 2012; Godey et al., 2016). Social media interactivity is social interaction of people in social networking sites by Web 2.0 technologies such as Facebook, Instagram (Hajli, 2016). For instance, Facebook has more than two billion monthly active users which is a great example of a platform. In fact, people love to interact with each other. When they favourite and like each other’s posts that would reinforce the closeness. Online social support Recent research has found that social interaction can bring social value to their users and that the social media is a powerful vehicle for an individual to build close relationships with others and to enhance the individual’s well-being (Liang et al., 2012; Eastin and LaRose, 2005; Obst and Stafurik, 2010; Shaw and Grant, 2002; Xie, 2008). Social support has been found to be a major social value that social media users can obtain from an online interactions (Eastin and LaRose, 2005; Obst and Stafurik, 2010; Huang, Nambisan and Uzuner, 2010). Social support is a multidimensional construct which refers to an individual’s experience of being cared for, being responded to, and being helped by people in that individuals’ social network (Cobb, 1976). Schaefer, Liang et al.(2012) claim that , online social support consists both tangible (e.g. instrumental and appraisal support) and intangible elements (e.g. informational and emotional support). Given the specific context, this study mainly focuses on the latter. Informational support refers to providing messages, in the form of recommendations, advice, or knowledge that could be helpful for solving problems. By contrast, emotional support refers to providing messages that involve emotional concerns such as caring, understanding or empathy. These two types of messages are the major support mechanisms for social interactions (Hajli, 2016). Antecedents of social WOM adoptionInformation adoption can be defined as the process of engaging purposefully in consuming information (Cheng and Thadani, 2012). Informational support provided through social interaction of individuals in social media can be in the form of ratings, review, recommendations or referrals. Therefore, when consumers search for information provided by other users to make a better decision for their purchasing, they are adopting information. From a marketer’s perspective, this process also helps to build long-term advocacy. This research argues that social media provides more opportunities to the individual to adopt WOM. The existing literature has identified several antecedents of social WOM adoption and most of these studies focused on travelling websites (Filieri; Alguezaui and McLeay,2015; Hajli, 2016). Beldad, De Jong, Steehouder (2010) have categorized the major antecedents of social WOM adoption in the literature into three categories namely customer-based antecedents (e.g. user’s experience during the social interactions); website based antecedents (e.g. perceived information quality) and company based antecedents(e.g. perceived source of credibility). Source of credibility is considered as fundamental predictors of consumers’ acceptance of a message in traditional WOM adoption (McGinnies and Ward, 1980). To facilitate the evaluation of credibility of a source, more and more social platforms require contributors to create a web profile upon their registration. Customers need to provide personal information (e.g. profile picture, personal preference). Furthermore, many social media website utilise reviewer reputation systems to enable customers to assess the credibility of reviewers. Zhang and Watt (2008) argue that the higher source credibility of message perceived in online social media, the higher level of information adoption would be. Moreover, the quality of information in online reviews is perceived as a very important cue for consumers to assess the website (Filierri, et al., 2015). Krishnan; Biswas and Netemeyer (2006) point out that concrete information provided by the website such as detailed features of the product/service is likely to be perceived as more credible than those from abstract information like peripheral description of the product/service. Finally, in marketing literature user experience is strongly related with trust (Yoon, 2002). In an online context customers’ negative experience is likely to affect their trust about the company. As a consequence, they are likely to engage in negative WOM. Research shows that user experience has a strong impact on the social WOM adoption (Liang et al., 2012). Method Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) will be employed for examining the research objectives of this research. The questionnaire for this study will be created through a professional online-based survey tool. As this research focuses on the factors influencing social WOM adoption in relation with luxury brands communications, the proposed research model will be tested among customers who is active in the existing active social media platforms and has had experience in engaging with the activities of luxury brand communications such as posting review or comment other’s post). Result and conclusion This research has adopted the electronic WOM theory and the social media support theory along with a social media perspective to investigate how customer’s interaction in social media affects their behaviour in relation to luxury brands consumption. The results show that social WOM facilitates the evaluation by customers about the luxury products using social media. Moreover, WOM has emerged with broad accessibility and the capability to be evaluated and measured easily by other consumers. This study gives practical implications on how to use social media to develop online communities for luxury brands. In conclusion, when going online, luxury brand should consider the importance of converting the online brand strategy into an interactive and engaging experience for their users and online communities.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in China has been a central debate worldwide. This paper explores how two leading International sportswear companies operating in China are communicating their CSR initiatives to the Chinese customers. This study analyses customer’s degree of interest in CSR and other related attributes as well as their impact on developing customer’s loyalty about the company. The findings suggest strong impact of the CSR dimensions (e.g. workplace, marketplace and environment support) and other related attributes (e.g. price, product quality and uniqueness) on developing customer loyalty. The study has also identified the regional difference in relation to customer’s CSR perceptions and the likelihood of being influenced by the company’s CSR initiatives. The implications of this study are relevant to both of the international and Chinese local companies for strengthening their social responsibility associations with the customers.

A multi-operation laser oscillator is developed and built with multiple operation modes (OMs): injectionseeding mode, cavity-dumping mode and Q-switching mode.With the same electrical energy pumping, the multioperation laser oscillator provides different output energies and pulse durations for different OMs. In the Q-switching mode, the output coupling is optimized for different electrical energy pumping. The laser oscillator operation can be switched between different modes conveniently. The multi-operation laser sources could be operated in multiple OMs for various research and application requirements.

s Background Overexpressed PES1 promotes carcinogenesis in various types of malignant tumors. However, the biological role and clinical significance of PES1 in pancreatic cancer are still unexplored. Methods The expression level of PES1 in pancreatic cancer cell lines and pancreatic cancer patient samples was determined using Western Blotting analysis, RT-qPCR analysis, immunohistochemical (IHC) analysis of tissue microarray, and the GEPIA web tool. MTS assay, colony formation assay, and xenograft tumor assay were used to evaluate the tumor growth ability of pancreatic cancer cells. Results We established that the expression of PES1 was abnormally increased in pancreatic cancer tissues and led to poor prognosis of pancreatic cancer patients. We also found that PES1 was responsible for promoting cell growth and contributed to bromodomain and cancer cell resistance to extra-terminal (BET) inhibitors in pancreatic cancer. Furthermore, we showed that PES1 interacted with BRD4 to enhance c-Myc expression, which is the primary cause of cancer cell resistance to BET inhibitors in pancreatic cancer. Finally, CDK5 inhibitors were proven to destabilize PES1 and overcome cancer cell resistance to BET inhibitors in pancreatic cancer cells. Conclusions We have shown that PES1 could be one of the promoting factors of tumor growth and a prognosis-related protein of pancreatic cancer. Targeting PES1 with CDK5 inhibitors might help overcome cancer cell resistance to BET inhibitors in pancreatic cancer cells.

This paper studies a strategy to model latent topics and temporal distance of text blocks for story segmentation, that we call graph regularization in topic modeling or GRTM. We propose two novel approaches that consider both temporal distance and lexical similarity of text blocks, collectively referred to as data proximity, in learning latent topic representation, where a graph regularizer is involved to derive the latent topic representation while preserving data proximity. In the first approach, we extend the idea of Laplacian probabilistic latent semantic analysis LapPLSA by introducing a distance penalty function in the affinity matrix of a graph for latent topic estimation. The estimated latent topic distributions are used to replace the traditional term-frequency vectors as the data representation of the text blocks and to measure the cohesive strength between them. In the second approach, we perform Laplacian eigenmaps, which makes use of the graph regularizer for dimensionality reduction, on latent topic distributions estimated by conventional topic modeling. We conduct the experiments on the automatic speech recognition transcripts of the TDT2 English broadcast news corpus. The experiments show the proposed strategy outperforms the conventional techniques. LapPLSA performs the best with the highest F1-measure of 0.816. The effects of the penalty constant in the distance penalty function, the number of latent topics, and the size of training data on the segmentation performances are also studied.

The clinical effect of laparoscopic rectal cancer curative excision with pelvic autonomic nerve preservation (PANP) was investigated. This study evaluated the frequency of urinary and sexual dysfunction of 149 male patients with middle and low rectal cancer who underwent laparoscopic or open total mesorectal excision with pelvic autonomic nerve preservation (PANP) from March 2011 to March 2013. Eighty-four patients were subjected to laparoscopic surgery, and 65 to open surgery respectively. The patients were followed up for 12 months, interviewed, and administered a standardized questionnaire about postoperative functional outcomes and quality of life. In the laparoscopic group, 13 patients (18.37%) presented transitory postoperative urinary dysfunction, and were medically treated. So did 12 patients (21.82%) in open group. Sexual desire was maintained by 52.86%, un-ability to engage in intercourse by 47.15%, and un-ability to achieve orgasm and ejaculation by 34.29% of the patients in the laparoscopic group. Sexual desire was maintained by 56.36%, un-ability to engage in intercourse by 43.63%, and un-ability to achieve orgasm and ejaculation by 33.73% of the patients in the open group. No significant differences in urinary and sexual dysfunction between the laparoscopic and open rectal resection groups were observed (P>0.05). It was concluded that laparoscopic rectal cancer radical excision with PANP did not aggravate or improve sexual and urinary dysfunction.

The dysregulation of TGF-β/Smads signaling pathway has been postulated to contribute to the development of ulcerative colitis (UC) and the manifestation of clinical symptoms. Kuijie Granule is a prescription medicine used clinically in China to alleviate the symptoms associated with UC. To evaluate whether the clinical benefit of Kuijie Granule is associated with TGF-β/Smads signaling, we measured the expression levels of TGF-β/Smads signaling proteins (TGF-β1, TGF-βRII, Smad2, Smad4, Smad6, and Smad7) in the intestinal mucosa of 72 patients with UC treated with Kuijie Granule for 60 days. Colonic tissues were obtained by a virtual colonoscopy guided biopsy before and after Kuijie Granule treatment followed by pathological analysis and quantitative analysis of TGF-β/Smads using immunohistochemistry. Kuijie Granule treatment significantly improved symptoms associated with UC, which include diarrhea, mucus production, pus and blood in stool, abdominal pain and distention, and tenesmus. The clinical benefit of Kuijie Granule treatment correlated with decreased expression of TGF-β1 and Smad7 and increased expression of TGF-βRII and Smad4. These clinical results indicate that Kuijie Granule can alleviate the symptoms associated with UC and modulate TGF-β/Smads signaling.

We report on our high-contrast laser based on high-contrast, high-energy seed injection, low-gain optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA), and Nd:glass amplifiers, which can be used as the high-contrast front end of a high-power Nd:glass chirped pulse amplification (CPA) laser system. The energy of the stretched 1053 nm high-contrast seed pulse increases to 60 μJ by optimizing the frequency doubling crystal in the pulse cleaning device. After passing through a two-stage low-gain OPCPA, a 2-pass 2-rod Nd:glass amplifier, and a compressor the amplified pulse of 131 mJ/282 fs is achieved. The third-order correlation scanning measurement shows that the pulse contrast in the tens of ps range is about 10−7–10−8. With the high-contrast seed passing through the stretcher and compressor only, the contrast measurement indicates that the stretching-compressing process leads mainly to the contrast degradation of the amplified pulse.

We therefore performed a meta-analysis to explore the relationship between ADAM8 expression and prognosis in patients with solid tumors. Relevant publications were searched in several widely used databases, and 12 studies (1722 patients) were included in the meta-analysis. Pooled odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to evaluate the strength of the association between ADAM8 expression and prognosis. Associations between ADAM8 expression and prognosis were observed for 3-year overall survival (OR = 3.09, 95% CI = 2.33 to 4.10, P < 0.00001) and 5-year overall survival (OR = 4.15, 95% CI = 3.14 to 5.48, P < 0.00001). Similar results were observed when disease free survival (DFS) were analyzed, 3-year DFS (OR = 2.47, 95% CI = 1.66 to 3.69, P < 0.00001) and 5-year DFS (OR = 3.30, 95% CI = 2.29 to 4.74, P < 0.00001). In conclusion, elevated ADAM8 expression is associated with poor prognosis in most solid tumors. ADAM8 is a valuable biomarker for prognosis prediction and a promising therapeutic target in human solid tumors.

Glioma accounts for the majority of primary malignant brain tumors in adults and is highly aggressive. Although various therapeutic approaches have been applied, outcomes of glioma treatment remain poor. MicroRNAs are a class of small noncoding RNAs that function as regulators of gene expression. Accumulating evidence shows that microRNAs are associated with tumorigenesis and tumor progression. In this study, we found that miR-105 is significantly downregulated in glioma tissues and glioma cell lines. We identified suppressor of Zeste 12 homolog as a novel direct target of miR-105 and showed that suppressor of Zeste 12 homolog protein levels were inversely correlated with the levels of miR-105 expression in clinical specimens. Overexpression of miR-105 inhibited cell proliferation, tumorigenesis, migration, invasion, and drug sensitivity, whereas overexpression of suppressor of Zeste 12 homolog antagonized the tumor-suppressive functions of miR-105. Taken together, our results indicate that miR-105 plays a significant role in tumor behavior and malignant progression, which may provide a novel therapeutic strategy for the treatment of glioma and other cancers.

We demonstrate the high-gain of two double-pass Ho:YLF amplifiers with high-energy seed pulses injection via a modified population inversion Frantz-Nodvik model by numerical simulation. From the numerical simulation results, 26.2 mJ/1 kHz amplified pulses can be obtained by two double-pass amplifiers with 20 μJ/1 kHz, 40 nm (FWHM) bandwidth seed pulses injection. Due to ~1300 gain, the bandwidth of the amplified pulse decreases to about 3.5 nm (FWHM), corresponding to 466 fs pulse duration near 2 μm wavelength. Therefore, the spectrum shaping of seed pulses is induced to suppress the gain narrowing effect. Then, the pulses can be amplified to 22.8 mJ with a spectrum of 16 nm (FWHM), which supports 368 fs pulse duration near 2 μm by simulation.

Jet and Flash Imprint Lithography has proven to be a viable alternative to optical lithography for fabrication of sub 30 nm nanostructures for large volume semiconductor manufacturing. Machine throughput, overlay and process defectivity that meet and exceed the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors (ITRS) are essential for commercial viability of any new lithography technology. Jet and Flash Imprint Lithography uses an inkjet head to dispense a grid of liquid drops on the wafer surface to match the volume requirements of the pattern being imprinted. Wafer shape modulation has been shown to increase imprinting speed significantly by reducing air bubble trapping in the drop interstitial sites. A wafer shape modulation chuck that can address arbitrary field locations and sizes on a wafer with a novel actuation scheme that minimizes the number of actuators while increasing imprinting speed and reducing process defects significantly is presented.

K-shell X-ray emission from a Cu nanowire target irradiated by an ultraintense femtosecond laser pulse is studied using an elliptically bent quartz crystal and imaging plate. The designed bent crystal spectrometer has better spectral resolution, which is higher than 1 000. The absolute K radiation photon yields are obtained from the experimental results and the Monte-Carlo model. The conversion efficiency of the Cu K line is estimated to be 0.019% from the interaction of 4 J, 50-fs laser pulse irradiated on a Cu nanowire target. The high yield of K shell X-ray has important applications in X-ray emission source.

Basic oxygen furnace off gas (BOF OG) sludge is one important type of metallurgical residues in steelmaking industry. The presence of zinc element is one key factor that constrains the practical use of such metallurgical residues. Information about the chemical association of zinc in BOF OG sludge is fundamental for understanding its behavior during the formation and further treatments. In this paper, the spatial distribution and the chemical forms of zinc in accumulated particles of BOF OG sludge have been investigated using synchrotron radiation induced -X-ray fluorescence and -X-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy microspectroscopy. Results of -X-ray fluorescence analysis showed that zinc distributed in two ways. One was shared with iron, and its distribution showed a positive correlation with that of iron. The other was accumulated in some well-defined hot spots with high amount and its distribution showed negative correlation with that of iron. And results of -X-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy microspectroscopy indicated that ZnFe2O4 was the main constituent in some well-defined hot spots, whereas in other cases, zinc was mainly in the form of zinc carbonate. The contribution of this paper is implementing a high throughput LDPC codec in FPGA for quantum key distribution (QKD) system. By software, the throughput of error correction in QKD system via LDPC codec could only reach 1.8Mbps, which is not satisfactory for high speed QKD systems. Thus, it is desirable that LDPC error correction is realized in FPGA to increase the throughput. LDPC codec is implemented according to IEEE802.16e standard. The encoder directly uses a parity-check matrix of lower triangular structure without the construction of generator matrix, so that it effectively reduce the encoding complexity of Richardson encoding algorithm. The decoder uses the BP Min-Sum algorithm to balance performance and complexity. The codec is implemented in an Altera Arria II EP2AGX260 FPGA with a 2304-bit code length and 2/3 code rate. The partly parallel decoding structure achieves a 99.95 Mbps processing throughput on the condition that the maximum number of iterations for each code block is 20. The achievable throughput is much higher than the requirements of current QKD systems.

A new thermochemical process for (Fischer–Tropsch) FT fuels and electricity coproduction based on steam hydrogasification is addressed and evaluated in this study. The core parts include (Steam Hydrogasification Reactor) SHR, (Steam Methane Reformer) SMR and (Fisher–Tropsch Reactor) FTR. A key feature of SHR is the enhanced conversion of carbon into methane at high steam environment with hydrogen and no need for catalyst or the use of oxygen. Facilities utilizing bituminous coal for coproduction of FT fuels and electricity with carbon dioxide sequestration are designed in detail. Cases with design capacity of either 400 or 4000 TPD (Tonne Per Day) (dry basis) are investigated with process modeling and cost estimation. A cash flow analysis is performed to determine the fuels (Production Cost) PC. The analysis shows that the 400 TPD case due to a FT fuels PC of 5.99 $/gallon diesel equivalent results in a plant design that is totally uneconomic. The 4000 TPD plant design is expected to produce 7143 bbl/day FT liquids with PC of 2.02 $/gallon and 2.27 $/gallon diesel equivalent at overall carbon capture ratio of 65% and 90%, respectively. Prospective commercial economics benefits with increasing plant size and improvements from large-scale demonstration efforts on steam hydrogasification.

Despite its acknowledged importance, there are few rigorous empirical studies examining Internet retail service quality. An exception is the development of the E-S-QUAL scale by Parasuraman, Zeithaml, and Malhotra (2005 Parasuraman, A., Zeithaml, V.A. and Malhotra, A. 2005. E-S-QUAL: A multiple-item scale for assessing electronic service quality. Journal of Service Research, 7(3): 213–233. Whilst E-S-QUAL demonstrated good psychometric properties in the original study, the scale lacks external validation. This paper presents a reassessment and validation of the E-S-QUAL in the context of the Internet grocery sector. Data were collected via a web-based cross-sectional survey using self-administered questionnaires distributed to online grocery shoppers. A total of 491 usable questionnaires were received. The results show that there are potential discriminant validity problems with the Efficiency and System Availability dimensions of E-S-QUAL. Further analysis shows that a second-order, three-factor model of E-S-QUAL, consisting of Efficiency, System Availability, and Fulfilment, provides the best fit to the data in this study. Privacy is shown to be the least important dimension for the data set in this study.

Generation of plasma channels by low jitter ablative capillary discharges is investigated experimentally in details. A time-resolved evolution and radial distributions of the electron density are measured, and proof-of-principle optical guiding experiment is conducted. A proper time window for optical guiding of a femtosecond laser pulse is found. The generated low density, long plasma channel is believed to be useful in the applications as GeV-class channel-guided laser wakefield accelerators and compact X-ray femetosecond coherent radiation sources.

Tankyrase 1, which enhances telomerase access to telomeres, plays an important role in telomere maintenance. The aim of this study was to determine the expression and potential role of tankyrase 1 in gastric cancer development and progression. We examined the expression of tankyrase 1 by RT-PCR and Western blotting, and assessed telomerase activity by TRAP-ELISA method in gastric cancer and adjacent normal tissues. We found that tankyrase 1 expression was significantly up-regulated in gastric cancer tissues compared to normal corresponding tissues. Tankyrase 1 over-expression by gastric cancerous tissue was significantly associated with tumor histology differentiation and tumor stage. Moreover, tankyrase 1 expression was significantly correlation with telomerase activity. Our results indicate that tankyrase 1 over-expression may play an important role in gastric cancer development and progression. Tankyrase 1 may be used as a biomarker of gastric cancer and may serve as a target for cancer therapy.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the expression of special AT-rich binding protein 1 (SATB1) and heparanase in human gastric cancer as well as its relationship to the clinicopathologic factors. Specimens from 102 patients who underwent radical gastrectomy between 2000 and 2002 were studied by immunohistochemistry for SATB1 and heparanase expression. SATB1 and heparanase were positively expressed in 48.0% and 51.0% of gastric cancer cases, respectively. The expression of SATB1 and heparanase was significantly correlated with the depth of invasion, tumor-node-metastatsis (TNM) stage, lymph node metastasis, whereas SATB1 expression was also significantly correlated with distant metastasis. Patients with SATB1-negative expression and heparanase-negative expression had higher survival rates than those with SATB1-positive or heparanase-positive expression. Moreover, a positive correlation was found between SATB1 and heparanase. In multivariable analysis, SATB1 expression was also identified as an independent prognostic indicator for gastric cancer. Our results suggest that combined analysis of SATB1 and heparanase expression may have significant value in determining invasion and metastasis of gastric cancer and assessing prognosis in patients with gastric cancer.

Rationale The mesenteric desmoid tumor requires special attention and the most demanding treatment. Patient concerns Here we present a rare case of a large mesenteric desmoid tumor secondary to familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) in a 34-year-old man accepted the ex vivo resection, and intestinal autotransplantation. Diagnoses A 34-year-old man was referred to our department with a 6-year history of intermittent hematochezia without any other discomfort after undergoing partial colectomy in February 2013, and 5 endoscopic mucosal resections of colon polyps between May 2012 and July 2015 due to pathological diagnosis of FAP. A computed tomography scan showed a huge abdominal mass with indistinct boundary at the root of the mesentery. The adjacent organs were pushed and most of the superior mesenteric artery branches were infiltrated. Interventions An en bloc resection (R0 resection), and an ex vivo resection followed by intestinal autotransplantation was performed. Outcomes The patient was discharged from the hospital on the 25th day after the operation, and was regularly followed up after surgery with abdominal ultrasonography and laboratory-biochemical tests every month, and serial CT scans every 3 months which showed no evidence of tumor recurrence, thrombus, intestinal obstruction or abdominal infection so far. Lessons An ex vivo resection and intestinal autotransplantation appear feasible for cases with pathological lesions involving the vessels at the root of mesentry, and represents an attractive alternative for the management of mesenteric desmoid tumors.

Clinical management of metastatic prostate cancer remains a challenge. Activation of apoptosis signaling pathways via signal transducer and activator of transcription 6 (STAT6) has been hypothesized to be a therapeutic strategy for patients with metastatic prostate cancer. The ONCOMINE® prostate cancer database and two Gene Expression Omnibus datasets (Gene Series 40026 and 21032) were re-analyzed to determine the expression levels of STAT6 and microRNA (miR)-135a in prostate cancer. The current study investigated the induced overexpression of miR-135a in prostate cancer cell lines to detect its function in prostate cell apoptosis using Hoechst staining and fluorescence-activated cell sorting and examined the expression levels of STAT6 and its DNA binding ability using western blotting and an electrophoretic mobility shift assay. In analysis of the ONCOMINE® database, STAT6 expression levels in prostate cancer tissue were higher compared with those in normal prostate gland tissue and were associated with the overall survival rate and biochemical relapse rate following radical prostatectomy. Additionally, there was an inverse correlation between miR-135a and STAT6 expression levels in prostate cancer cell lines. miR-135a was able to induce prostate cancer cell apoptosis via targeting STAT6 mRNA and subsequently repressing protein expression and phosphorylation, which also altered the transcriptional factor function of STAT6 through its DNA-binding capabilities. In conclusion, miR-135a may function as a tumor-suppressing miRNA in prostate cancer and its anti-oncogenic activity may involve the direct targeting and inhibition of STAT6.

There is a tremendous amount of pressure on educators to incorporate highly advanced computer-mediated communication (CMC) into the classroom, but the research shows that this is not an easy task. Part of the difficulty learners experience within current network applications is a lack of support from the design of the software for the development of a common ground. This paper reports on a study of how a group of online students used a software application specifically designed to mediate a threaded discussion. Results of the study show that properly designed software had a significant impact on the creation and maintenance of the common ground necessary to create and foster a community of talk. Nonetheless, the data also shows that specialized software is not enough. An important factor in using online interaction well is for the teacher to closely monitor students online. These two factors, suitably designed software that is appropriately implemented, are closely related and will result in optimum experience for students.

The objective of this study was to assess the costs, energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions throughout the biomass supply chain for large scale biofuel production. Two types of energy crop were considered, switchgrass and loblolly pine, as representative of herbaceous and woody biomass. A biomass logistics model has been developed to estimate the feedstock supply system from biomass production through transportation. Biomass in the form of woodchip, bale and pellet was investigated with road, railway and waterway transportation options. Our analysis indicated that the farm or forest gate cost is lowest for loblolly pine whole tree woodchip at $39.7/dry tonne and highest for switchgrass round bale at $72.3/dry tonne. Switchgrass farm gate GHG emissions is approximately 146 kgCO2e/dry tonne, about 4 times higher than loblolly pine. The optimum biomass transportation mode and delivered form are determined by the tradeoff between fixed and variable costs for feedstock shipment.

For the unconditional secure quantum key distribution (QKD), Faraday-Michelson interferometers (FMI) based system provide an intrinsic way to avoid the influence from the birefringence effect through fiber. In our paper, we designed an electronics system for the FMI-based QKD system with high repetition rate. The system was tested in 125 MHz repetition rate for more than 16 hours and obtained a quantum bit error rate less than 4%, which is to our knowledge the highest repetition rate result for FMI-based QKD system.

Imprint lithography has been shown to be an effective technique for replication of nano-scale features. Jet and Flash Imprint Lithography (J-FIL) involves the field-by-field deposition and exposure of a low viscosity resist deposited by jetting technology onto the substrate. The patterned mask is lowered into the fluid which then quickly flows into the relief patterns in the mask by capillary action. Following this filling step, the resist is crosslinked under UV radiation, and then the mask is removed, leaving a patterned resist on the substrate. Non-fill defectivity must always be considered within the context of process throughput. Processing steps such as resist exposure time and mask/wafer separation are well understood, and typical times for the steps are on the order of 0.10 to 0.20 seconds. To achieve a total process throughput of 20 wafers per hour (wph), it is necessary to complete the fluid fill step in 1.0 seconds, making it the key limiting step in an imprint process. Recently, defect densities of less than 1.0/cm2 have been achieved at a fill time of 1.2 seconds by reducing resist drop size and optimizing the drop pattern. There are several parameters that can impact resist filling. Key parameters include resist drop volume (smaller is better), system controls (which address drop spreading after jetting), Design for Imprint or DFI (to accelerate drop spreading) and material engineering (to promote wetting between the resist and underlying adhesion layer). In addition, it is mandatory to maintain fast filling, even for edge field imprinting. This paper addresses the improvements made with reduced drop volume and enhanced surface wetting to demonstrate that fast filling can be achieved for both full fields and edge fields. By incorporating the changes to the process noted above, we are now attaining fill times of 1 second with non-fill defectivity of ~ 0.1 defects/cm2.

We demonstrate high amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) contrast pulses in a Nd:glass laser system based on the hybrid double chirped pulse amplification (double CPA) scheme. By an OPA temporal cleaning device, ~100 uJ/46 fs/ 10 11 clean pulses are generated and amplified in the next Nd:glass laser. After compressor, >150 mJ/~0.5 ps/1 Hz pulses can be obtained. The ASE temporal contrast of amplified pulses is ~10 11 with energy gain ~2.5×10 4 in the Nd:glass amplifiers. Based on technologies of chirped pulse amplification and optical parametric chirped pulse amplification, the peak power of petawatt femtosecond laser was upgraded. The hybrid scheme was confirmed to be an approach for ten patawatt laser.

This study was designed to explore the correlation between expressions of SATB1 and S100A4 and their relationships to the clinicopathologic parameters of colorectal carcinoma (CRC). Expressions of SATB1 and S100A4 were evaluated by immunohistochemistry in a cohort of 131 primary CRC patients undergone surgical resection from 2005 to 2007. SATB1 and S100A4 were positively expressed in 48.9% and 54.2% of CRC cases, respectively. SATB1 and S100A4 expressions in tumor tissues were significantly higher than those in the corresponding normal tissues. A positive correlation was observed between SATB1 and S100A4. Moreover, the levels of SATB1 and S100A4 were both significantly associated with invasion, lymph node status, and TNM stage of CRC, whereas S100A4 expression was also correlated with distant metastasis. Multivariate analysis revealed that SATB1 expression was an independent prognostic indicator for poor survival of CRC. Further survival analysis indicated that co-expression of SATB1 and S100A4 suggested a worse 5-year overall survival rate in CRC patients. Thus, combined analysis of SATB1 and S100A4 expressions may be valuable in determining the development and progression of CRC. Co-expression of SATB1 and S100A4 is an unfavorable prognostic indicator and may be useful in the follow-up of patients with CRC.

A wideband bandpass filter (BPF) using two cascaded sections, each consisting of a SAW-like resonator and one or two transmission lines, is proposed. The lower and higher transitions of the passband are separately defined by the SAW-like resonators. The roll-off at the band edges can be controlled by properly designing the SAW-like resonators to achieve a highly selective passband. As an example, a prototype BPF centered at 0.42 GHz is implemented on PCB, in which the SAW-like resonators are realized by lumped elements. The measured filter has a 3-dB bandwidth of 47% and high passband selectivity is observed. To obtain a wideband rejection, one transmission line in the filter is loaded with an open stub and a low pass filter is added. Experimental results show good high out-of-band rejection up to more than 20 GHz.

A Ka-band lumped element Dual-Behavior Resonator (DBR) filter in 0.13-μm CMOS is presented. The DBR filter consists of Dual-Behavior Resonators (DBRs) and inverters connecting the DBRs. The inverters and the DBRs, which define the stopband transmission zeros, are realized by CMOS spriral inductors and metal-insulator-metal (MIM) capacitors. A second order DBR filter with two transmission zeros is designed and fabricated in standard 0.13-μm CMOS technology. The measured filter has a 3-dB bandwidth of 15% at the center frequency of 27.8 GHz. High rejections larger than 48 dB are realized at the two transmission zero frequencies of 20.2 GHz and 37 GHz.

We present an optical method to measure three dimensional (3D) ship deformations. This method is based on optical collimation theory and thereby, with a crosshairs image projected and captured in a collimation optical path, the 3D deformation angles, including the pitching angle, the yawing angle and the rolling angle, could be calculated by image’ variation. In order to improve the measurement precision, sub-pixel location algorithm is adopted in image processing. Particularly, given that the rolling angle is the most difficult to measure in a collimation optical path, numerical simulation is carried out to analysis the error characteristics of this angular measurement. Experimental results indicate that this 3D ship deformations measurement achieve the precision of several arcsecs in the distance of 25m and in the deformation range of -120″~120″.

This paper proposes to use Laplacian Probabilistic Latent Semantic Analysis (LapPLSA) for broadcast news story segmentation. The latent topic distributions estimated by LapPLSA are used to replace term frequency vector as the representation of sentences and measure the cohesive strength between the sentences. Subword n-gram is used as the basic term unit in the computation. Dynamic Programming is used for story boundary detection. LapPLSA projects the data into a low-dimensional semantic topic representation while preserving the intrinsic local geometric structure of the data. The locality preserving property attempts to make the estimated latent topic distributions more robust to the noise from automatic speech recognition errors. Experiments are conducted on the ASR transcripts of TDT2 Mandarin broadcast news corpus. Our proposed approach is compared with other approaches which use dimensionality reduction technique with the locality preserving property, and two different topic modeling techniques. Experiment results show that our proposed approach provides the highest F1-measure of 0.8228, which significantly outperforms the best previous approaches.

A review of recently published 60 GHz passive bandpass filters in standard CMOS is presented. With data extracted from the reported measurement results of 28 filters, a comparison table and a set of figures are provided and discussed. The provided data may help designers to access the relative merits of their future designs. Potential future directions and design challenges for 60 GHz passive filters in CMOS are also identified.

Acceptance of imprint lithography for manufacturing will require demonstration that it can attain defect levels commensurate with the defect specifications of high end memory devices. Typical defectivity targets are on the order of 0.10/cm2. In previous studies, we have focused on defects such as random non-fill defects occurring during the resist filling process and repeater defects caused by interactions with particles on the substrate. In this work, we attempted to identify the critical imprint defect types using a mask with NAND Flash-like patterns at dimensions as small as 26nm. The two key defect types identified were line break defects induced by small particulates and airborne contaminants which result in local adhesion failure. After identification, the root cause of the defect was determined, and corrective measures were taken to either eliminate or reduce the defect source. As a result, we have been able to reduce defectivity levels by more than three orders of magnitude in only 12 months and are now achieving defectivity adders as small as 2 adders per lot of wafers.

This paper examines the challenge of building customer loyalty in the e-tailing environment. It examines the role of relationship quality (RQ) in the formation of customer loyalty in Internet retailing. In a departure from existing research, RQ is treated as a disaggregated, multidimensional construct, rather than a global one, consisting of relationship satisfaction (RS), trust, and commitment. Based on an online survey of 491 Internet grocery shoppers, structural equation modelling is used to test the influence of the different dimensions of RQ on e-loyalty. Results show that RS, perceived relational investment, and affective commitment have a strong and positive impact on e-loyalty. Trust also has a strong effect but works via RS. The results suggest that the disaggregated model of RQ provides a better prediction of e-loyalty than the aggregated model of RQ.

Reconfigurable surface acoustic wave (SAW) filters are presented for the 700 MHz frequency band currently allocated to Long Term Evolution (LTE). Unlike traditional SAW filters with a fixed center frequency, the proposed filters have a reconfigurable center frequency. First, a novel modular ladder type topology is proposed incorporating SAW resonators and GaAs Single Pole Single Throw (SPST) switches within the basic reconfigurable filter. The measured center frequency in the low band state is 696 MHz and the BW is 3.4%. In the high band state the measured center frequency is 718 MHz and the BW is 2.6%. The center frequency shift is 3.2%. Spurious responses caused by switches are an important design consideration and the root causes of the spurious responses in high band and low band are identified. Then a novel filter topology using Single Pole Double Throw (SPDT) absorptive switches is proposed to remove the spurious responses in the high band state. Finally the root cause of the remaining spurious response is analyzed and a solution is proposed.

This study aimed to investigate the influence of laparoscopic total mesorectal excision combined with sphincter-preserving surgery on the postoperative defecation function, urinary function and sexual function in low or ultralow rectal cancer. A retrospective study was undertaken on 107 patients (65 laparoscopic resection and 42 laparoctomic resection) with rectal cancer undergoing laparoscopic or open laparoscopic total mesorectal excision combined with sphincter-preserving surgery from April 2009 to April 2013. The quality of life outcomes of all patients, including defection, urinary and sexual function, were assessed at 6, 12 and 24 months after operation. Gastrointestinal quality of life index (GQOLI) was used to evaluate the fecal incontinence and bowel dysfunction. Urinary and sexual functions were studied by means of questionnaires on the basis of the international prostatic symptom score (IPSS) and international index of erectile function (IIEF), respectively. In laparoscopic surgery group, there were two cases of anastomotic leakage, three cases of anastomotic stricture, seven cases of local recurrence, ten cases of hepatic metastasis and five cases of lung metastasis. The satisfaction rates of patients about their defecation function reached 60.3% (35/58, 84.5% (49/58) and 91.3% (53/58) at 6, 12, and 24 months follow-up, respectively. The assessment after one year showed that the overall incidence of urinary dysfunction was 10.7% (7/65); Among male patients, 18.4% (7/36) suffered from erectile dysfunction and 27.8% (10/36) suffered from ejaculatory dysfunction; 65.5% (19/29) female patients investigated were satisfied with their postoperative sexual life. In open surgery group, there were two cases of anastomotic leakage, two cases of anastomotic stricture, nine cases of local recurrence, ten cases of hepatic metastasis and seven cases of lung metastasis. The satisfaction rates of patients about their defecation function were 56.4% (22/39), 82.1% (32/39) and 94.8% (37/39) at 6, 12, and 24 months follow-up, respectively. The assessment after one year showed that the overall incidence of urinary dysfunction was 11.9% (5/42); 25% (4/16) male patients suffered from erectile dysfunction and 31.3% (5/16) suffered from ejaculatory dysfunction; 69.2% (19/26) female patients investigated were satisfied of their postoperative sexual life. There was no statistic difference in the two groups. Laparoscopic total mesorectal excision combined with sphincter-preserving surgery in low or ultralow rectal carcinoma is safe and practicable. It can be helpful for enhancing the probability of anus reservation, and obtains satisfactory defecation, sexual and urinary functions.

This meta-analysis was designed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of stool DNA testing for colorectal cancer (CRC) and compare the performance between single-gene and multiple-gene tests. MEDLINE, Cochrane, EMBASE databases were searched using keywords colorectal cancers, stool/fecal, sensitivity, specificity, DNA, and screening. Sensitivity analysis, quality assessments, and performance bias were performed for the included studies. Fifty-three studies were included in the analysis with a total sample size of 7524 patients. The studies were heterogeneous with regard to the genes being analyzed for fecal genetic biomarkers of CRC, as well as the laboratory methods being used for each assay. The sensitivity of the different assays ranged from 2% to 100% and the specificity ranged from 81% to 100%. The meta-analysis found that the pooled sensitivities for single- and multigene assays were 48.0% and 77.8%, respectively, while the pooled specificities were 97.0% and 92.7%. Receiver operator curves and diagnostic odds ratios showed no significant difference between both tests with regard to sensitivity or specificity. This meta-analysis revealed that using assays that evaluated multiple genes compared with single-gene assays did not increase the sensitivity or specificity of stool DNA testing in detecting CRC.
