Nowadays Off-Grid systems driven by intelligent data analysis, predictive models and real-time optimizations are frequently entitled as Smart Grids. They represent a future step in a sustainable energy supply for applications at various scales, from small household configurations to the systems operating on a scale of larger areas, especially parts of a town or village. One of the key characteristics of such systems is the lower short-circuit power caused by a lower and mostly stochastic nature of their power source, which is represented by a renewable energy source. This phenomenon directly implies the difficulties of sustainable power quality (PQ). Our paper presents an analysis on the lowest possible level, where the impact of household appliances is examined towards a specific kind of response due to PQ parameter variation. The analysis was performed on 120 combinations of appliances. Each combination consisted of three appliances running simultaneously in the microgrid. The measured data were subjected to a statistical analysis. This analysis finds there are several kinds of appliances we need to focus on, in order to express the PQ parameter change of a given parameter. The results show that the microwave, AC heating and drill appliances had a high impact on the total harmonic distortion of voltage (THDV) disturbance. The microwave, AC heating and mower had the highest impact on the total harmonic frequency (FREQ) and the power factor (PF). For the sake of completeness, specific features of the given appliances were examined as for their relevance to the PQ disturbance, which revealed the most relevant features to be taken into account during the development of a predictive model.

Nowadays the environment is polluted in different ways. One of these is the wrong disposal. A considerably ineffective method of disposal of waste can be the storage at a designated site of so-called landfills that have a significant adverse effect on the environment. Most of the larger cities suffer from these aspects of inefficient waste management, which is why the landfill is mostly on the periphery. Due to rapid population growth, this situation is only getting worse. A possible solution is reuse of waste by so-called recycling to a utility product. Effective and efficient recycling is required for many people. Which individual materials will be separated and further processed into a utility product. A possible solution is to automate these tasks using current information technologies.

This article presents the analysis of the influence of household appliances on the quality of the energy consumed by the end-user. The results of the research, then, concern the final consumer (the lowest level of the power grid). The research was conducted on 120 combinations of electrical appliances connected into a grid. Each combination consisted of three devices working simultaneously in a micro-grid. The obtained and statistically analyzed data proved that there are several types of appliances that have a great influence on the power quality (PQ) parameters changes. The results of the conducted experiments indicate the devices which influenced significantly the total harmonic distortion of voltage (THDV), the voltage frequency (FREQ) and the voltage fluctuation (V). Specific features of particular devices were examined in terms of their significance for the power quality deviation. This showed the most important features which should be considered while working out the prediction model. The future of smart grids resides in data analysis, predictive models and real-time optimization. One of the key characteristics is the reducing energy consumption generated by renewable energy sources. This phenomenon, namely looking for problems connected with sustainable power quality and their appropriate solution, is described in this article. We performed an extended analysis of the smart home appliances influence of individual quantities on a real model. Furthermore, we explored devices with a high impact on chosen power quality indicators. In the end, we discuss their specific behavior and relevance to the above-described phenomenon to improve the predictive model utility. Web of Science 13 17 art. no. 4323

Fetal Phonocardiography (fPCG) is still secondary tool but provides very important information about fetal well-being that cannot be given by another fetal monitoring method. Independent Component Analysis (ICA) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) were chosen for testing on synthetic data that are able to extract fPCG from abdominal signals. Results show that ICA and PCA could be used in clinical practice for fetal Heart Rate (fHR) monitoring, because after extraction of components it is easy to determine fHR. Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) proved that after the extraction there was a significant improvement in estimated signal to compare with input abdominal signals. We found that ICA method works better than PCA method on this data, even though it changes the amplitude of the output components.

One of the main goals of modern buildings in addition to the management environment is also attempt to save energy. For this reason, increased demands on the prevention of energy loss, which can be expressed for example as an inefficient use of the available functions as a building or heat leakage. Reducing heat loss as a perfect tightness of doors and windows in the building, however, restricts the natural ventilation, which leads to a gradual deterioration of the quality of the internal environment. This state then has a very significant impact on human health. In the closed, poorly ventilated area, the person staying at increasing the carbon dioxide concentration, temperature and humidity, which impacts the human thermoregulation system, increases fatigue and causes restlessness. It is therefore necessary to monitor these parameters and then control so as to ensure stable and optimal human values. The aim is to design and implementation Module sensors that will be able to measure different parameters, allowing the subsequent regulation of indoor environmental quality.

This paper deals with the use of the real time operating system FreeRTOS, which is implemented into the 32-bit microcontroller with ARM core on the swarm robotics platform. The main task of the realized control system is to ensure the communication with the different types of sensors that are parts of the swarm robotic platform (ultrasonic sensors, LIDAR - Light Detection And Ranging, GPS, etc.), and to prepare obtained information for the further use. The controlling of the robot movements according to the received demands is also one of the tasks. The control system separates the low-level parts (interfacing with the sensors and actuators) and the high-level parts (the algorithms running on the Raspberry Pi for the navigation and the swarm behavior realization). The main advantage of using the FreeRTOS operating system is the possibility of working with threads and pseudoparalelism on the single core microcontroller. This provides the possibility to separate whole activity into the individual tasks with assigned priorities.

One of the most important tasks in the area of mining safety is the inspection of vertical mining shaft. Geological processes in the rock mass rise problems with all used mining components over a long-term period. There is a possibility of occurrence of an equipment deformation or destruction in all directions (there are installed pipelines, cables, long vertical linear guidance, etc . inside a shaft). Periodical inspection of mining shaft profile and its analysis are necessary to ensure a safe transport both of the material and especially staff. Base of the solution of this problem lies in the use of contactless measurement methods of the profile, such as photogrammetry described in this article. First it gives a description of photogrammetry problem, pros and cons of proposed implementation with solid state LED or LASER LED used as light sources (instead of xenon flash tube) as well as flash timing and control and spectral distribution of the light. Then computer analysis of mining shaft profile as a part of rapid diagnostics is described. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5755/j01.eee.22.1.14109

Nowadays there is decreasing number of limitations during using commercial mobile devices for data transfer, wireless connectivity or mobile device tracking. The last item is main area of this work. The model of a radio-frequency based system enhancement for user’s location and tracking is developed for mobile information systems. The experimental framework prototype uses a few wireless technologies to determine indoor and outdoor position as wireless network infrastructure, global position system (GPS) etc. User location is mainly used for data prebuffering and preload by information system server to PDA or mobile device. All data on the server are saved with its artifacts as the position in the building or outdoor area and used location technology respectively. The reason for prebuffering is high speed of application response when a large amount of data is needed to transfer by server to mobile client.

Need of blood pressure measurement is usable in wide spectrum of applications from physicians offices to home care applications. Many types of blood pressure measurement devices can be bought in electronics shops. All such devices are measurement devices which need to be in contact with human body (hand or foot mainly). Further they allow only one measurement per several minutes interval (typically 10 minutes). Our goal is to develop a small device for noninvasive continuous measurement of blood pressure. This device must be a small battery powered embedded system which measures a blood pressure during a long time period and sends this information to remote operator's stations. In this station the analysis of receiving video data is made for several types of usage. In current state we develop a small device to scan a video or a set of images with the NIR (Near Infra Red) CCD camera. The video data are transferred by wireless connection to the computer where they are analyzed. The first results provide an indication to be a right way to obtain exact continuous blood pressure information. In the future there exists a way to integrate this blood pressure measurement system to concurrently developed biotelemetric system architecture for patients and physicians called Guardian. For position monitoring in outdoor areas there is developed GPS module which informs about patient location and brings very precise time basis for other measuring modules of Guardian system and time synchronization.

This project deals with the problems of utilization of mobile equipment working in the biomedicine field, particularly telemedicine. This field is relatively new; it focuses on the observation of life functions from a distance. Practically developing system works with an ECG sensor connected to mobile equipment, such as PDA/Embedded device, based on Microsoft Windows CE class operating system. The whole system is based on the architecture of .NET Compact Framework, and other products, such as SQL Server by Microsoft too. This work also deals with the communication of mobile equipment with sensors and with the server via Bluetooth, WiFi, and GPRS/EDGE. The mobile equipments are used primarily for measuring and processing of data from the sensors and their visualization as a graph. The data is also given to the server for further processing and the analysis of current health of the patients, due to small efficiency of the mobile equipment. The main task we deal with in the server part of application is receiving of the data via web services and further processing, management and analysis of this data. For the analysis of received data and further evaluation of the electrocardiogram, there is a self-organizing neural network [1].
