Knowledge development—an integral part of firms’ internationalization—has generated a considerable amount of research on how firms from emerging and advanced countries acquire, integrate, and utilize knowledge. Despite theoretical justifications for the context significance for internationalization, the existing literature is fragmented and overlooks whether and how firms originating in distinct countries differ in their knowledge development processes. Relying on the antecedents, decisions, and outcomes, and the theory, context, characteristics, and methodology frameworks, we bridge this gap by reviewing 81 papers published in leading journals since 2007. Our paper extends the literature by classifying knowledge development during firm internationalization from emerging and advanced countries. We show how environmental and status differences create diverse effects on the type of knowledge firms seek, the ways they acquire and integrate it, and the consequent internationalization decisions. Among notable further directions, we emphasize shifting focus from organization- to individual-level learning in diverse organizational contexts.

Kemajuan Ilmu Kewirausahaan dengan penggunaan teknologi, yang biasa disebut sebagai Technopreunership sangat disadari oleh para pendidik di SMA Yahya Bandung. Sejalan dengan keberadaan Pandemi Covid 19 yang mengharuskan adanya pembatasan interaksi sosial secara langsung, kondisi ini telah memaksa percepatan perkembangan ilmu Technopreunership dalam dunia usaha. Para pendidik di SMA Yahya menyadari bahwa kelajuan perkembangan pengetahuan ini perlu dipelajari untuk transfer pengetahuan yang lebih baik tentang ilmu kewirausahaan bagi murid SMA. Di samping itu, para pendidik pun dapat mendapatkan manfaatnya dengan wawasan lebih luas dan pengetahuan praktis yang dapat diajarkan kembali pada siswa SMA. Menanggapi kebutuhan ini, maka Fakultas Teknologi Informasi Universitas Kristen Maranatha mengadakan pelatihan secara daring dengan topik Technopreneurship bagi para pendidik di SMA Yahya sebagai wujud pengabdian kepada masyarakat. Topik pelatihan mencakup Pelatihan Dasar Technopreneurship, Pelatihan Lanjut Usaha Digital Entrepreneurship, dan Pelatihan Pengembangan Usaha Digital Entrepreneurship. Metode Projek Base digunakan agar para pengajar dapat mempraktekkan apa yang telah dipelajari. Sebanyak 37 pendidik telah menjalani pelatihan dan melengkapi tugas praktek, sehingga di akhir pelatihan para pendidik secara berkelompok berhasil membuat toko online mereka masingmasing. Pada masa yang akan datang diharapkan para pengajar dapat membagikan ilmu yang diperoleh bagi para anak didiknya.

Purpose This study aims to build a comprehensive knowledge structure of smart hospitality and tourism research. Design/methodology/approach Content analysis is carried out on the themes of pertinent research from the perspectives of customers, suppliers, technology and policymakers. Findings Results show that over half of the reviewed articles are carried out from the perspective of customers, while those of suppliers, technology and policymakers are less discussed. The unbalanced number of articles reveals an evident mismatch between the supply and demand. Practical implications Findings provide theoretical and practical implications from different perspectives. Collaboration among various stakeholders is also advocated to achieve sustainable and balanced development of the smart hospitality and tourism industry. Originality/value This study contributes to smart hospitality and tourism research through an in-depth review of relevant literature. Based on the findings, the identified research gaps provide potential directions for future knowledge development.

In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in the study of research abstracts and its rhetorical structure. While the number of studies in rhetorical moves of RA abstracts are growing, there is still little attention given to thesis and dissertation abstracts especially in relation to the link between genre knowledge and its rhetorical realization. The present study aims to identify the variations of rhetorical move manifestation in abstracts of master’s theses and dissertations written by local and international graduate lecturers and explore the relationship between the manifestations and the author’s genre knowledge development. This study employed a qualitative approach with Hyland’s (2000) five-move analysis model as the main framework of the study. The findings revealed that there were similarities in the rhetorical structure of abstracts by the local and international graduates. The study also found that educational level and supportive academic environment play an important role in author’s genre knowledge trajectories. The findings discovered in the study provide a clearer picture to help in the development of a universal guideline for abstract writing in final papers for higher education.

Despite over 10 years of research, we still know very little about people’s sexting behaviours and experiences. Our limited and, at times, conflicting knowledge about sexting is due to re-searchers’ use of inconsistent conceptual definitions of sexting, dubious measurement practices, and atheoretical research designs. In this article, we provide an overview of the history of sex-ting research and describe how researchers have contributed to the ‘moral panic’ narrative that continues to surround popular media discourse about sexting. We identify four key problems that still plague sexting research today: (1) imprudent focus on the medium, (2) inconsistent conceptual definitions, (3) poor measurement practices, and (4) a lack of theoretical frameworks. We describe and expand on solutions to address each of these problems. In particular, we focus on the need to shift empirical attention away from sexting and towards the behavioural domain of technology-mediated sexual interaction. We believe that the implementation of these solu-tions will lead to valid and sustainable knowledge development on technology-mediated sexual interactions, including sexting.

University–industry collaboration (UIC) is an important source of knowledge and innovation for firms but is often challenging due to the partners’ different goals. Thus, formal research centers have become a key policy instrument to foster stronger UIC whereby strong mutual relationships are created. This study investigates the establishment of a university–industry research center to gain insights into the coordination activities the focal firms used to achieve their goals with UIC. We find that the firms with goals related to specific innovations and technology development took a more active role by using structured coordination activities in the preformation phase of the research center, whereas the firms with goals related to general knowledge development mainly coordinated through unstructured activities when the center began operations. We map the specific coordination activities used in UIC and theorize on how the partners’ different organizational goals influenced their use of these activities. Our findings have important implications for how activities in UIC, particularly in research centers, can be designed to strengthen the collaboration between universities and their firm partners to enhance knowledge development and innovation.

The ability to incorporate new and Big Data sources and to benefit from emerging technologies such as Web Technologies, Remote Data Collection methods, User Experience Platforms, and Trusted Smart Statistics will become increasingly important in producing and disseminating official statistics. The skills and competencies required to automate, analyse, and optimize such complex systems are often not part of the traditional skill set of most National Statistical Offices. The adoption of these technologies requires new knowledge, methodologies and the upgrading of the quality assurance framework, technology, security, privacy, and legal matters. However, there are methodological challenges and discussions among scholars about the diverse methodical confinement and the wide array of skills and competencies considered relevant for those working with big data at NSOs. This paper develops a Data Science Model for Official Statistics (DSMOS), graphically summarizing the role of data science in statistical business processes. The model combines data science, existing scientific paradigms, and trusted smart statistics, and develops around a restricted number of constructs. We considered a combination of statistical engineering, data engineering, data analysis, software engineering and soft skills such as statistical thinking, statistical literacy and specific knowledge of official statistics and dissemination of official statistics products as key requirements of data science in official statistics. We then analyse and discuss the educational requirements of the proposed model, clarifying their contribution, interactions, and current and future importance in official statistics. The DSMOS was validated through a quantitative method, using a survey addressed to experts working at the European statistical systems. The empirical results show that the core competencies considered relevant for the DSMOS include acquisition and processing capabilities related to Statistics, high-frequency data, spatial data, Big Data, and microdata/nano-data, in addition to problem-solving skills, Spatio-temporal modelling, machine learning, programming with R and SAS software, Data visualisation using novel technologies, Data and statistical literacy, Ethics in Official Statistics, New data methodologies, New data quality tools, standards and frameworks for official statistics. Some disadvantages and vulnerabilities are also addressed in the paper.

Household energy consumption has been one of the most critical factors to climate change. We conducted bibliometric research on household energy consumption by using CiteSpace and HistCite. The Web of Science was used to identify and visualize the evolution of paper citation diagram, the collaboration network, the cocitation network and emerging trends by mapping the knowledge domain of 2984 academic publications between 2011 and 2018 related to household energy consumption. The results showed that the number of academic articles published in the field of household energy consumption and carbon emissions was on the rise, but the number of highly cited articles decreased. The most productive authors and institutions in this subject are in Australia, the USA, China, Britain and Germany. Much of the research has focused on electricity consumption and heat supply, while there have been few studies on other subdomains in the area of energy consumption. The impact of greenhouse gases produced by energy consumption on the environment was the focus of this study. Here, we present an in-depth analysis of household energy consumption and carbon emission research to better understand global trends and hot topics in this field which have emerged over the last few years.

COVID-19 has had a significant impact on the way social work responds to a wide range of social issues facing PWLE (People with Learned Experience). This paper evaluates a small-scale research project conducted by academics teaching on a United Kingdom (UK) social work degree programme. It explores the experience of students undertaking social work placements and how their practice was impacted upon by the lockdown. The focus concerns the challenges students faced when they were unable to continue their real-time practice placements and instead were asked to undertake virtual learning experiences through the use of Action Learning Sets (ALS) and Blogs. The responses indicate that the students found the use of Action Learning Sets improved their experience during a difficult period. Important lessons can be learned which can contribute to enhancing the educational experience on social work programmes in the UK. These included the recognition of the student voice in delivery, the impact of caring responsibilities, and the need, in future interventions, to directly involve People With Lived Experience in the development and delivery of such initiatives.

PurposeThe current study provides new insights into the relationships between knowledge development (KD) and sustainable supply chain performance (SSCP) by exploring the mediating effects of entrepreneurial orientation (EO) in terms of innovativeness, proactiveness and risk taking.Design/methodology/approachData were collected by questionnaire survey from 242 manufacturing organizations. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to test the hypotheses.FindingsThe results reveal that innovativeness and proactiveness have full mediating effects on the relationship between KD and SSCP. Though KD is negatively related to risk taking and has insignificant indirect effect on SSCP via risk taking, the mediating effect of risk taking remains moderate positive on the relationship between KD and SSCP.Research limitations/implicationsGiven that the current study focuses on manufacturing sector, future research is needed for more comparative studies conducted in different sectors and cultural contexts. The negative link between KD and risk taking also warrants future investigation.Practical implicationsOrganizations may reduce their level of risk taking due to the increase in KD. However, in order to enhance SSCP, risk taking is still needed as it mediates the relationship between KD and SSCP.Originality/valueThe mediating effects of innovativeness, proactiveness and risk taking on the relationship between KD and SSCP are unknown. Current study aims to address this gap.

Human resource development and continuous training are a precondition for organizational and socio-economic resilience and development. It is also vital to build integrated training programs, especially for the unemployed nowadays, considering the major challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic crisis in various labor markets internationally. This article aims to distinguish fundamental theoretical and practical dimensions of structuring business training programs and supporting learning and innovation after investigating critical trends of conceptual readjustment of modern management theory. A significant conclusion is that a business training program has to synthesize the organization’s strategic, technological, and managerial potential and goals (Stra.Tech.Man approach), valorizing the basic principles of integrated planning, organizing, implementing, and controlling. A novel training program framework is suggested, attributing particular weight to developing structured mechanisms for training unemployed population groups at the local level.

Despite the resounding call for innovation as a source of competitive advantage in today’s everchanging environment, many companies have found themselves unable to introduce innovative products and services to the market. The lack of knowledge and capability supportive of innovation is more observable among companies in emerging economies. Lagging behind developed economies in technology development created disadvantage for such companies, often inhibiting innovation. This study has unpacked the processes of dynamic capability and knowledge development in a leading automaker in Iran and the Middle East. Findings reveal the role of product innovation and the coevolutionary relationship between product innovation projects and knowledge and capability development. The findings guide managers for step by step development of knowledge and capability through a series of product innovation projects.

Existing research does not provide a clear answer to the question of whether internal knowledge development and external knowledge sourcing are complementary or substitutive innovation activities. This paper adopts a contingent approach for addressing this issue by examining whether and how the interactive effect of internal R&D efforts and external knowledge sourcing on product innovation performance may be affected by the firm’s corporate reputation. In doing so, a three-way interaction model is applied to a sample of 251 Spanish high-technology manufacturing firms. Interestingly, initial results support the substitutive argument: the positive effect of internal R&D on product innovation performance diminishes as the exposure to external knowledge increases. However, in well reputed companies, interaction becomes positive, revealing a complementary effect. Thus, the study extends the traditional approach focused on determining whether internal and external knowledge sourcing are complements or substitutes by showing that their interplay depends on other firm-specific characteristics. Moreover, identifying corporate reputation as a source of complementarity between both activities provides an additional explanation of how corporate reputation contributes to a more effective management of knowledge assets.

Literature reviews (LRs) play an important role in the development of domain knowledge in all fields. Yet, we observe a lack of insights into the activities with which LRs actually develop knowledge. To address this important gap, we (1) derive knowledge building activities from the extant literature on LRs, (2) suggest a knowledge-based typology of LRs that complements existing typologies, and (3) apply the suggested typology in an empirical study that explores how LRs with different goals and methodologies have contributed to knowledge development. The analysis of 240 LRs published in 40 renowned IS journals between 2000 and 2014 allows us to draw a detailed picture of knowledge development achieved by one of the most important genres in the IS field. An overarching contribution of our work is to unify extant conceptualizations of LRs by clarifying and illustrating how LRs apply different methodologies in a range of knowledge building activities to achieve their goals with respect to theory.

This study documented the citation metrics of articles published by the ITF Coaching & Sport Science Review (ITFCSSR) and indexed in Google Scholar (GS). A systematic searching of GS returned 209 unique ITFCSSR indexed articles published between 1993 and 2019 with 1139 citations. ITFCSSR articles had relatively low citation rates that confirmed previous bibliometric research on the gradual development of tennis knowledge compared to faster moving biomedical fields. ITFCSSR articles may make unique contributions to knowledge development in tennis science, particularly in coaching, physiology, and analytics/tactics.

O objetivo deste estudo é analisar as características das publicações internacionais na temática avaliação do desempenho hospitalar (ADH), por meio de um fragmento da literatura, na busca de geração de conhecimento, identificação de lacunas e possibilidade de contribuições. Esta pesquisa utiliza uma abordagem qualitativa e o instrumento selecionado para identificar e selecionar o fragmento de literatura para análise e reflexão foi o Knowledge Development Process – Constructivist (ProKnow-C). O portfólio bibliográfico com 43 artigos identificou os autores e os núcleos de pesquisas de destaque e os periódicos com maior número de publicações. Quanto aos métodos mais utilizados na ADH, destacam-se os que se baseiam na teoria das fronteiras Eficientes, classificados como: Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA - 53,85%), Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA - 12,82%), comparação entre DEA e SFA (7,69%) e Partinal Frontier Analysis (2,56%). Quanto ao emprego ou dimensões analisadas, 38,46% dos artigos destinam-se aos gestores. A partir das análises geradas foi possível identificar lacunas, referentes a mecanismos de avaliação do desempenho voltados para as dimensões que extrapolem as métricas. Para geração e aplicação de conhecimento nesta área, sugere-se a adequação da ADH as especificidades destas organizações, considerando o ambiente e a finalidade do sistema ao qual se insere.

A specialized software application is used in sociology. However, there are not many tools for carrying out a sociological research through all its stages. Sociologists often use different software or several software products. However, these programs are quite complex, and therefore their application is possible with special knowledge after a thorough study of the software product or with the involvement of the relevant specialists. Analysis of the possibilities of various programs for creating and processing sociological data shows that their choice is made by researchers on the basis of the ease of learning the program, the convenience of data management, the speed of computation, and graphic capabilities. In 2014, Belashov developed the Russian program for the input and processing of sociological research data “Sociology,” which allows for complete automation of the process of creating sociological data.

O desenvolvimento de Capacidades Colaborativas para Sustentabilidade (CCS) por parte das empresas é uma prática fundamental para a permanência duradoura no mercado. No entanto, a literatura sobre CCS ainda é escassa, principalmente quando se considera a avaliação desta por meio de modelagem matemática. Este artigo tem como principal objetivo analisar quantitativamente a CCS de um hotel que atua no cluster de turismo no estado da Paraíba. Para isso, foram levados em consideração aspectos da visão relacional, da visão baseada em recursos naturais e de capacidades colaborativas, bem como foi utilizada a ferramenta multicritério Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). Como resultado, verificou-se que os atributos de CCS que devem ser melhorados para ampliar o potencial de colaborar para a sustentabilidade do hotel avaliado são: alocação de recursos e gestão da cadeia de valor. Dentre as contribuições do artigo, destacam-se o avanço do conhecimento sobre a temática ainda não explorada na literatura e a avaliação quantitativa da CCS por meio de uma ferramenta multicritério.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to draw upon the resource-based view of the firm to explore how a firm’s resources (assets and capabilities) such as culture of competitiveness (CC) and knowledge development (KD) relate to sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) and organizational performance (OP). Design/methodology/approach Data were collected from 242 supply chain and logistics managers in Pakistan and a structured equation modeling approach was used. Findings The results of the study provide support for the proposed hypotheses and indicate that CC and KD are positively related to SSCM and OP. This points out that the organizations in Pakistan are likely to emphasize CC and KD to achieve OP. However, the positive but weak association of CC and KD with SSCM highlights that the organizations in Pakistan show less concern for SSCM. Originality/value The literature did not reveal any study which examined the relationships of the CC and KD to SSCM and OP in developing countries. The present study aims to address this gap in the literature.

Increased energy efficiency (EE) in manufacturing firms is important for confronting climate challenges. However, the information barrier is considered a major restriction on EE innovation. Building on the theory of absorptive capacity and the current EE literature, we argue that this barrier relates to firms' ability to assimilate and exploit information. Thus, this study's objective is to analyse firms' knowledge characteristics as determinants of EE innovation. We perform logit regressions using a Norwegian panel dataset for the period 2010–2014. The results are based on statistical correlations between data points that have potential uncertainties. Still, the main implications from our study are that prior knowledge, in terms of higher educated workforce, knowledge development, in terms of R&D capacity, and external knowledge cooperation, such as cooperation with universities and competitors, increase firms' pursuit of EE innovation. Further, the results also imply that there is an interaction effect between higher educated workforce and collaboration with universities. These results suggest that policy makers should consider firms' ability to assimilate and exploit information. This can be done by providing information according to firms' needs and absorptive capacity, and offering possibilities for firms to increase this capacity.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the production of smart tourism knowledge, thereby revealing the development of the concept through collaborative networks. Design/methodology/approach A bibliometric analysis, which enables visual mapping and observation of the domain, was conducted using journal articles retrieved during the period of 2000 to 2018. Findings The understanding of smart tourism is shaped and enhanced through collaborative network of researchers. As the domain develops, its reach expands across different networks as well as core themes. Research limitations/implications Data for the study was generated from English-written journal articles that were produced from a database search of specific keywords associated with smart tourism. Practical implications Findings can prove useful to academic researchers and industry practitioners to aid their understanding of smart tourism research development, identify the underlying context and aid in coherent development of the concept. Originality/value The paper is one of the first articles to provide a greater understanding of smart tourism as a research topic by examining its evolution in an academic context through bibliometric analysis.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to test the impact of a rule that affects tertiary students progressing from an introductory level finance course to intermediate level. The rule restricted students from progressing until they achieved a higher grade than just a “pass” mark. Design/methodology/approach Archival data were gathered from 11 semesters regarding student performance pre and post the rule being introduced. Findings Results show that the rule was associated with an increase in the chances of success at intermediate level for those students enrolled after the rule was introduced. Practical implications This paper’s main contribution regards the evidence that increasing prior learning at an introductory level has a positive follow-on effect for students learning at intermediate level. This has a practical implication for educators, as the rule has shown to increase the chance of success for knowledge development in the first year of studies. Originality/value The setting for this paper is unique and could potentially be replicated elsewhere. In 1980, Schaffer and Calkins called for an evaluation of the pre-requisites necessary for finance education at the tertiary level, and this paper answer this call stating that pre-requisites can contribute to the academic success of finance students.

Registered nurses (RNs) enact their scope of practice in everyday practice through the influences of client needs, the practice setting, employer requirements and policies and the nurse's own level of competence (Canadian Nurses Association 2015). A scope of practice is "dynamic and responsive to changing health needs, knowledge development and technological advances" (International Council of Nurses 2013). In Canada, RNs' scope of practice is set out through provincial and territorial legislation and provincial regulatory frameworks, which are broadly consistent, but vary across provinces (Schiller 2015). Provincial and territorial regulatory bodies articulate the RN scope through frameworks that include expected standards as well as, in some jurisdictions, limits and conditions upon practice (British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals 2018), and which are commonly referred to as a licensed or registered scope of practice. Rural and remote practice is starting to be explicitly acknowledged within nurses' legislated scopes of practice through the identification of certified practices for RNs in specific rural and remote practice settings, following approved education (British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals 2018).

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to review the state-of-the-art of literature of value management (VM) and to map the VM domain to provide a launch pad for further knowledge development and dissemination. Design/methodology/approach This study employed CiteSpace bibliometric analysis software to systematically, comprehensively and accurately review the VM-related literature and to map the VM knowledge domain. Findings The results reveal the current VM knowledge base, clusters, research hotspot, and the evolutionary trajectory while contributing to the development of VM knowledge by providing a dynamic platform for integrating future developments in research. Originality/value The contribution of this paper to scientific VM knowledge is, therefore, a quantitative and accurate VM knowledge map based on a bibliometric analysis of data from the VM knowledge base, domains and evolution. The findings can be generalised and used as an effective knowledge mapping tool in a specific field of study that could complement and add significant value to the often adopted more traditional literature reviews. This study further recommends that the proposed knowledge map be frequently updated by similar future studies to fill gaps that arise with changing needs, priorities and contexts, as well as to identify corresponding future demands in the VM research domain.

The purpose of the article is to reasonably determine the prospects for building a knowledge economy in Ukraine and to establish the most promising ways of knowledge development of the national economy. The scientific novelty is contained in the assessment of the prospects for building a knowledge-based economy in Ukraine and determining, through modeling, factors that, if activated at the regional and national levels, will allow this to be more effective and in a short time. The vector of economic development of a modern civilized state is determined. The essence, content and components of the knowledge economy are substantiated. Based on international statistics, indicators have been selected that quantify the components of the knowledge economy. A comprehensive analysis of the dynamics of the values of indicators was carried out from different sides covering each of the three components of the knowledge economy (education, science and information and communication technologies) for Ukraine and Poland for the period 1992-2017. Elected levers of influence in the economy of Ukraine, which will bring the state of the economy of knowledge closer. The influence of indicators characterizing each of the components of the knowledge economy on the gross domestic product of Ukraine per capita in fixed prices was carried out. Further research should be directed to the development of a roadmap and specific programs to intensify the selected levers of the knowledge economy in Ukraine, which should be implemented at the level of the region and the country as a whole.

In this chapter I reflect upon some of the findings of my research in sport policy and development over the last two decades. I discuss some of the recent lessons I have learned from working with a range of professionals and publics, particularly in community sport and health, in the second decade of the twenty-first century. These issues are explored in the context of the changing landscape of higher education in England where, among other things, academic researchers are increasingly constrained to demonstrate the impact of their work on non-academic audiences, including through influencing policy making and practice. The chapter concludes by considering some of the professional and moral rationales underpinning the engagement of sociologists of sport in knowledge development and its dissemination to our publics.

We assessed knowledge development and exchange among actors who patent orthopaedic devices in South Africa over the period 2000–2015. A social network analysis was performed on bibliometric data using co-inventorship on patents as an indicator of collaboration between different organisations, with a focus on the spatial and sectoral contexts. Network metrics and innovation system indices are used to describe knowledge development and exchange. The results show that university, healthcare and industry organisations have primarily been responsible for increased patenting over time. The key actors were a set of industry actors – a national actor and its US partner – who have patented many devices jointly. National universities were found to make a small contribution, and science councils were found to be absent, despite the efforts in the changing innovation landscape to encourage publicly financed research organisations to protect their intellectual property. The collaboration networks were found to be sparse and disjointed, with many actors – largely from the private healthcare sector – patenting in isolation.Significance: The considerable number of patents filed by private sector clinicians in orthopaedic device innovation in their personal capacity is highlighted. Few patents emanate from national universities, and science council actors are largely absent, despite the Intellectual Property Rights from Publicly Financed Research and Development Act to protect intellectual property emanating from public research organisations. Legume crops hold promise to diversify the currently simplified rotations that dominate Europe and to increase the sustainability of European farming systems. Nevertheless, most legumes have been ignored by farmers, advisors, and value chain agents in the EU, where legumes are estimated to occupy only ~2% of arable land. Recent surveys find that farmers see a lack of knowledge on the agroecological impacts of (re)introducing legumes as a key barrier to legume adoption. A review of current research on the agroecological potential of legume-inclusive cropping systems would help in assessing whether research targeting sufficiently supports farmers in overcoming this barrier. We have systematically reviewed and synthesized published literature reporting on agricultural ecosystem service delivery in European cropping systems with legumes included compared to those without legumes. Our analysis of 163 published articles revealed: (1) the bulk of published research addresses production-related services delivered by few legume species (pea, clover, faba bean, and vetch, 70% of reviewed studies) comparatively assessed in cereal-based rotations; (2) substantial knowledge gaps also exist, encompassing ecosystem services with less direct relevance to economic outcomes (e.g., biodiversity) and with potential for high variability (e.g., pest and disease suppression); (3) studies at plot-level and within-season scales dominate (92% and 75% of reviewed studies, respectively). Assessed in the context of recent complementary studies, we find that a limited research focus is both counter to knowledge demands from farmers and likely the result of self-reinforcing socio-technical regimes which prioritize production over non- or indirectly-marketable ecosystem services. We conclude that scientists in Europe should diversify research to include legume species, ecosystem services, contexts, and scales not yet well studied, in order to provide the agroecological knowledge base farmers need to amplify the potential benefits of crop diversity.

The stationarity of hydrological systems is dead. Has our hydrological/water resources knowledge well transformed to address this change? By using publications indexed in the Web of Science database since 1900, we aim to investigate the global development of water resources knowledge at river basin scale from a system science perspective. Water resources knowledge development in a river basin is defined as a complex system involving the co-evolutionary dynamics of scientific disciplines and management issues. It is found that: 1) centralised and legacy-inclined water resources knowledge structures dominated major river basins in the world; 2) links between water resources knowledge structure and the management issues it addressed are increasingly homogenised; and 3) cross-disciplinary collaborations have remained largely unchanged and collaborations with social sciences have been very limited. In conclusions, the stationarity of the water resources knowledge system persists. A shift of water resources knowledge development to cope with the rapidly changing hydrological systems and associated management issues is urgently needed.

The significant amount of studies on adobe masonry constructions, which have received growing interest from researchers and practitioners, allows preliminary conclusions on the state-of-the-art to be drawn. Besides, several research needs can be delineated to create the basis for knowledge development and implementation of seismic risk mitigation programmes. Past studies moved from material characterization to structural performance assessment through numerical simulation and experimental testing, as well as seismic strengthening. Future lines of research could focus on test standardisation, non-destructive and minor-destructive testing, full-scale testing to support structural modelling and strengthening, and numerical simulation through discrete element and equivalent frame methods.

Knowledge and knowledge development have always been essential for the survival and continuing development of humankind. As part of the human condition, people have always adapted to the particularities of local environments which in turn are influenced by global conditions and changes, such as climate change, disease, and armed conflict, among others. Knowledge has, throughout human history, been shared and transferred, and with time ever more extensively across regions and national borders. The basic idea that knowledge has no borders has always been and needs to continue to be a guiding light for higher education (HE). International mobility is part of this knowledge transfer and exchange as it augments our understanding of cultural, structural, and financial differences in the world, which must be considered collectively as our shared global responsibility for sustainable social development. These, as well as other perspectives, will be addressed in the following lines.

Making decisions is the most important task of university leaders or managers and it is often the most difficult task. This chapter offers a step-by-step decision-making procedure for solving complex problems. It outlines the concept of decision-making and processes for both public and private decision-making agendas, using different decision criteria and different types of information. This chapter also describes barriers to effective decision making and decisions that must be made in conditions of certainty and uncertainty. Using a descriptive and suggestive research design, multiple statistical procedures; the results revealed that the types, styles and barrier to decision making processes are significantly related to the poor quality management of higher education in Nigeria? It is therefore imperative that institutional leaders are thoughtful and precise decision makers. This study recommends that the process of decision making ought not to be reactionary, but systematically planned and swift as well as planning for the unanticipated and unintentional situations as they arise.

Neurotrauma (NT) is one of the common causes of mortality and morbidity. Investigating the role of people who had an impact on the development of knowledge of NT is reasonable. Our aim is to investigate the role of Bizhan Aarabi, professor of Neurosurgery, on the knowledge development in NT. Accordingly, we searched the Scopus database for Bizhan Aarabi on August 8, 2020 and selected papers with at least 10 citations, investigating his impact on NT and details of his publications. He has published 168 papers including original articles, reviews, conference papers, letters, and editorials according to the Scopus databases. There are 112 papers with 10 or more citations. Thirty-eight out of 112 papers (33.9%) were in the first and the highest rank journal: 29 in Neurosurgery and 9 in the Journal of Neurotrauma. Twenty-four papers have the level of evidence (LOE) of "1". Bizhan Arabi developed knowledge in NT especially in the cervical spine/spinal cord trauma and brain injury and his publications are references for spine/neurosurgeons.

International audience; While the literature on academia-industry collaboration highlights the challenges linked to the theory-practice divide, it only partially addresses the heterogeneous nature of the knowledge produced and the scope of the theorising process. Based on an exemplary case, this paper suggests that academia-industry collaboration is a useful but insufficient platform for academic and managerial theorising. Its key contributions include: 1) a model depicting a total knowledge development process enlarging the scope of collective theorising beyond the dyad and the co-production of knowledge resources; 2) envisioning this collaboration as a relationship with evolving roles and interaction patterns; and 3) shedding new light on the theory-practice divide and the idea of knowledge relevance.

Teaching expertise in higher education currently receives elevated attention. This attention has also sparked an interest in expertise development, which is the focus of this chapter. The chapter characterises teaching expertise in higher education from a knowledge development perspective, and presents a knowledge development model grounded in the concepts of tacit knowing and self-care. This model provides theoretical sensitivity for an ethnographic case study on knowledge development at the Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen, where I engaged in fieldwork with an experienced university teacher, and explored the way in which she developed her expertise based on her teaching experience. Analysis of this case highlights that this teacher was involved in an expertise development process that focused on maintaining constructive alignment for students throughout her course.

This study responds to the call for more conceptual and theoretical work for the knowledge development in the field of marketing. This study aims at providing insights into customer experience from the aspect of value and its link to the relationship between customer satisfaction and customer loyalty, as well as its link to customer loyalty retention.
