This study aims to profile the scientific retractions published in journals indexed in the Web of Science database from 2010 to 2019, from researchers at the top 20 World Class Universities according to the Times Higher Education global ranking of 2020. Descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and simple linear regression were used to analyze the data. Of the 330 analyzed retractions, Harvard University had the highest number of retractions and the main reason for retraction was data results. We conclude that the universities with a higher ranking tend to have a lower rate of retraction.

O presente estudo tem por objetivo identificar as redes em trabalhos científicos com escopo na área de qualidade de vida (QV) publicados em periódicos indexados na base de dados Scielo Brasil no período de 2000 a 2011. Foi utilizado o unitermo “qualidade de vida”, “qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde” e “qualidade de vida no trabalho” (QVT). O número de autores totalizou 2.529. Estes pesquisadores estão afiliados a 328 instituições distintas, das quais a maioria são Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES), hospitais, centros de pesquisa, clínicas ou instituições parceiras ao setor de pós-graduação, pesquisa e extensão. No período, totalizou-se 3.192 publicações em QV em 100 periódicos distintos, sendo que dos 3.192 artigos, 3.152 foram indexados com o unitermo “qualidade de vida”, 21 foram indexados com o unitermo “qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde” e 19 foram indexados com o unitermo “qualidade de vida no trabalho”. Conclui-se que os temas QV e QVT passaram a ser estudados por inúmeras áreas do conhecimento, pois inicialmente eram objeto de análise principalmente da sociologia e administração.

The primary objective of this study is to compare the conceptualized model versus the actual implementation of the Federal Technological University of Paraná (UTFPR) in Brazil and the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB) in Portugal, from its creations to the present day, in the institutional and pedagogical field. The two organizations focus on training professionals through more practical approaches, learning in close collaboration with industries and society, boosting regional development. Our research is justified by the fact that there are few studies on how higher educational organizations respond to the new demands in their local contexts, without violating their modus operandi. In Portugal, the higher education system is binary, composed of universities and polytechnics, whereas in Brazil, there is no designed system for higher education that distinguishes Classical Universities (CU) from Technological Universities (UT) such as UTFPR. The documentary evidence is composed of official documents and semi-structured interviews with managers involved both in the process of constitution of these organizations and nowadays. Data was treated using the Content Analysis technique. Firstly, this study showed that the organizations analyzed operated differently over the years. On its conception, UTFPR proposed an alternative model of university, however, after fourteen years there has been a departure from the characteristics of UAS, changingits university model. Distinctly, IPB remained faithful to the model devised in its creation, which to some extent also helped the institution to achieve national and international recognition, fulfilling its developmentalist mission. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

In corporate boards, there is great concern about women's participation in executive positions and how this may impact the financial performance of organizations, particularly to shareholders. This study aims to analyze the relationship between corporate governance and women's participation in corporate financial performance from 2015 to 2019. The methodology used was based on the application of the Methodi Ordinatio, with the Scopus and Web of Science databases, resulting in the complete analysis of 28 articles. Among the results, the aspect of the representation of female participation is emphasized, both for the company's financial performance and for the disclosure of social activities to shareholders. Results were found that highlight the participation of women positively influences the company's decision making, provided that in addition to female executive positions, positive financial performance indicators are presented. From the analyzed articles 78.6% bring results that present a direct or indirect relationship between the presence of women on the board and the financial performance. It is concluded that most research shows that gender diversity among board members influences the company's financial performance and reduces risk through disclosure of corporate social responsibility activities. However, women's representation on boards is under development, as some articles have shown that there was no significant relationship between the variables presented in this study.

The main objective of this research is to measure the longitudinal evaluation of Brazilian stricto sensu graduate programs from 1995 to 2017. A historical review about the development of Brazilian graduate programs is also included in the introduction section. The variables used were (i) distribution of graduate programs; (ii) distribution of professors and students throughout the regions of the country; (iii) provision of grants to programs; (iv) Capes’ investments in scholarships in Brazil. The results show an increase of 241% in the number of graduate programs in the period from 1998 to 2017. It was also verified that from 1998 to 2017 Brazil granted 652.191 Master’s degrees and 224.560 PhDs. The Southeastern region is the region holding the largest number of graduate programs. However, it was also the region that presented the lowest growth rate between 1998 and 2017. Although the results need to mature, the advances of graduate programs during the period under evaluation represent a great achievement of the nation in terms of science, culture and technology, allowing the pursuit of consolidation and stability.

The present article aims to identify factors that interfere in the quality of life (QoL) of people with Alzheimer's disease(AD). A systematic bibliographical review was performed using the Methodi Ordinatio of 2016 to 2018. The keywords "Quality ofLife" and "Alzheimer" were used. After the application of the InOrdinatio equation, the 20 relevant articles (17% of the total) wereconsidered, which were read in their entirety. The results indicate as the main factors that interfere positively and that tend toimprove QOL measures are: social interaction, daily activities, physical activities, a friendly and permanent environment, musicalactivities and therapy cognitive. The identified factors that negatively influence the QoL are: depression, apathy, agitation,polypharmacy and increased cognitive impairment of the individual, due to advances in AD.

This study aimed to identify and analyze the environmental management practices in the industry carried out in Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) in the period from 2011 to 2015, with the aid of scientific literature published in the Scopus database. Due to the expansion of the bloc’s development, these countries presented a high potential to impact the environment. Therefore, this study is relevant because it identifies trends about the Environment Management Practices that have been followed in industries of BRICS, increasing the theoretical allowance for discussions concerning Environment Management Practices in these countries. Consequently, a survey on environmental management practices was conducted using the keyword "industrial environmental management practices" and the name of each country. Besides that, a "second quest" was added with the term "case study" to refine the results. We found out that China, India, South Africa and Brazil have been studying solutions for the CO2 emissions by employing different environmental management practices. In addition, in the studies on China, India and Brazil, environmental management practices recurrently approached topics concerning the supply and water quality, the regulatory standards of environmental management and the practice of Green Supply Chain Management. However, we did not find papers concerning the environmental management practices in Russia through the employed methodology. We concluded that China, India and Brazil tend to present papers on the issue of environmental management (in English and in the database, from which they were gathered) because these countries show a more sustainable development, thus publishing a higher number of researches in this field, whereas Russia and South Africa do not follow this trend due to a weaker environmental engagement. With regard to that, it is suggested that further studies investigate the environmental management practices in other developing and developed countries, which would allow to draw a comparison with other groups.

The work-life balance needs to be exercised by individuals who perform functions in the fields of work and family, including Higher Education teachers. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the work-life balance in Higher Education and the impact on the well-being of teachers. Based on a systematic review of 53 articles retrieved from the ScienceDirect, Scopus and Web of Science from 2005 to 2020, this article has a rigorous systematic review methodology using the Mendeley and EndNote software tools. The VOSviewer and Microsoft Excel software tools were also used in the following techniques: citation analysis and co-ocurrence of terms/words. In addition, main topics discussed about the work-life balance among Higher Education teachers, research areas, field of activity and SWOT analysis (opportunities, threats, strengths and weaknesses) were identified in the literature. Findings suggest that gender inequality, stress level at work and the absence of a healthy workplace impact on the work-life balance and consequently on the well-being of Higher Education teachers. Resumo O equilíbrio entre trabalho e vida precisa ser exercido por indivíduos que desempenham funções no trabalho e na família, incluindo professores do Ensino Superior. O objetivo deste artigo é analisar o equilíbrio entre trabalho e vida no Ensino Superior e o impacto no bem-estar dos professores. Com base em uma revisão sistemática de 53 artigos das bases ScienceDirect, Scopus e Web of Science de 2005 a 2020, este artigo possui uma rigorosa metodologia de revisão sistemática usando as ferramentas de software Mendeley e EndNote. As ferramentas de software VOSviewer e Microsoft Excel também foram utilizadas nas seguintes técnicas: análise de citações e co-ocorrência de termos/palavras. Além disso, foram identificados na literatura os principais tópicos discutidos sobre o work-life balance entre professores do Ensino Superior, áreas de pesquisa, campo de atividade e análise SWOT (oportunidades, ameaças, pontos fortes e fracos). Os resultados sugerem que a desigualdade de gênero, o nível de estresse no trabalho e a ausência de um ambiente de trabalho saudável afetam o work-life balance e consequentemente o bem-estar dos professores do Ensino Superior. El propósito de este artículo es analizar el equilibrio entre trabajo y vida en la Educación Superior y el impacto en el bienestar de los docentes. Basado en una revisión sistemática de 53 artículos de las bases de datos ScienceDirect, Scopus y Web of Science de 2005 a 2020, este artículo tiene una metodología rigurosa de revisión sistemática utilizando las herramientas de software Mendeley y EndNote. Las herramientas de software VOSviewer y Microsoft Excel también se usaron en las siguientes técnicas: análisis de citas y co-ocurrencia de términos/palabras. Además, se identificaron en la literatura los principales temas discutidos sobre el equilibrio trabajo-vida entre los docentes de Educación Superior, áreas de investigación, campo de actividad y análisis SWOT (oportunidades, amenazas, fortalezas y debilidades). Los resultados sugieren que la desigualdad de género, el nivel de estrés en el trabajo y la ausencia de un entorno laboral saludable afectan el equilibrio entre el trabajo y la vida y, en consecuencia, el bienestar de los docentes de Educación Superior.

This work has the purpose of mapping the scientific production of researchers recipient of CNPq productivity grants in research (PQ) and productivity grants in technological development and innovative extension (DT), in the Production Engineering field, in the four-year period from 2013 to 2016. The information was extracted from the Lattes Platform, on which we obtained quantitative data about the individual scientific production of 190 researchers, through the software scripLattes v8.10. The data analysis was conducted through descriptive statistics, the Kolgomorov-Smirnov data normality test, the Kruskal-Wallis test, and the Mann-Whitney test. The results show that 76% of the researchers compose the PQ grant category. Within the four-year period, among PQ researchers, 1B and 1A researchers had the best average of total published articles, with 19.42 and 15.75 articles per researcher, respectively. Among DT researchers, 1D and level 2 researchers had, in average, 21.5 and 12.57 published articles, respectively. PQ researchers maintain their production of scientific articles homogeneous at all Qualis levels. On the other hand, DT researchers present greater heterogeneity in their publications. It is possible to conclude that level 1 researchers do not focus on journals that present low Qualis ratings for the publication of their research. In contrast, level 2 researchers are less experienced and expect to publish in higher-level journals, but when their works are rejected, they start “betting” on journals of lesser quality. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo mapear la producción científica de investigadores beneficiarios de bolsas de productividad investigadora (PQ) y bolsas de productividad en desarrollo tecnológico y extensión innovadora (DT) del CNPq, en el área de Ingeniería de Producción, en el cuatrienio 2013-2016. La información se extrajo de la Plataforma Lattes, que obtuvo datos cuantitativos sobre la producción científica individual de 190 investigadores, utilizando el software scripLattes v8.10. El análisis de los datos se realizó mediante estadística descriptiva, prueba de normalidad de datos de Kolgomorov-Smirnov, prueba de Kruskal-Wallis y prueba de Mann-Whitney. Los resultados muestran que el 76% de los investigadores conforman la categoría de becas PQ. En el período de cuatro años, entre los investigadores de PQ, los investigadores 1B y 1A tuvieron el mejor promedio del total de artículos publicados, con 19,42 y 15,75 artículos por investigador, respectivamente. Entre los investigadores de DT, los investigadores 1D y de nivel 2 tenían, en promedio, 21,5 y 12,57 artículos publicados, respectivamente. Los investigadores de PQ mantienen homogénea la producción de artículos científicos en todos los niveles de Qualis. Por otro lado, los investigadores de DT tienen una mayor heterogeneidad en sus publicaciones. Es posible concluir que los investigadores de nivel 1 no se enfocan en revistas que tienen una calificación Qualis baja para la publicación de su investigación. En contraste, los investigadores de nivel 2 tienen menos experiencia y esperan publicar en revistas de nivel superior, pero cuando sus artículos son rechazados, comienzan a “apostar” por revistas de menor calidad. The objective of this research is to compare the idealized teaching with the teaching carried out at two Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS), the Federal Technological University of Parana (UTFPR) in Brazil and the Polytechnic Institute of Braganca (IPB) in Portugal. The UAS focus on the training of professionals through a more entrepreneurial and technical approach in close collaboration with the market, thus contributing to the regional development. The research is justified by the fact that there are few studies on how higher education organizations respond to the new demands in their local contexts without changing their conceived models. In Portugal, the higher education system is binary, whereas in Brazil there is no system designed for the technological higher education. The documentary corpus was composed of official documents and semi-structured interviews applied to the managers involved both in the process of constitution of these organizations and in their current moment. The data were analyzed by means of the Content Analysis technique (Bardin in Content analysis, editions 70. Lisbon, p 225, 1977). Firstly, this study showed that the analyzed organizations act in different ways. UTFPR, in its constitution, converged towards a vocational education and a strong relationship with the labor market. After 14 years, the concept of technological education is still under development and a distancing from the characteristics that make up teaching at UAS could be verified. While the IPB remained faithful to the polytechnic teaching model conceived in its creation, which to some extent also helped the institution achieve national and international recognition and fulfill its developmental mission. We concluded that learning and qualification practices in UAS should be increasingly based on the applicability of knowledge, in addition to the necessary involvement of social and economic actors that are formed through partnerships with industries and society. The obtained results can inform policy makers about the characteristics of these organizations so that they can create effective and diversifying policies in national contexts; as well as contribute to the development of higher education literature that explores responses to the processes of social change.

This paper has the purpose of comparing the innovation index of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) countries with their economic complexity (EC) from 2011 to 2014. The research was constructed through two databases: the Atlas of Economic Complexity and the Global Innovation Index. The results show that India and Brazil declined the most in the innovation ranking. Russia had the worst drop in the EC ranking. China climbed up seven positions in the EC ranking, but presented stagnation in innovation. South Africa showed the most similarities in the comparison, climbing up in both rankings. The conclusion reached is that the EC ranking and the innovation ranking are not equivalent; they display discrepancies regarding the rises and declines among BRICS countries.

This work evaluates the legacy left by the 2014 FIFA World-Cup held in Brazil, demonstrating the differences between the proposed and actual costs, construction projects and investments. This documentary study used statistical data provided by the Brazilian Government and the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). The results were analysed through descriptive statistics. From the results, the magnitude of benefits was not fulfilled due to the failure to carry out all the projects and actions judged necessary and justified by the mega-event, even so, it brought some development for the country.

This paper analyses the academic production of researchers that were called "productivity grants" awarded by CNPq, the Brazilian research funding agency, in the field of production engineering in the period 2007---2009. Was extracted the data resumes of 101 Brazilian researchers in the Lattes Platform. In relation to the scientific production, productivity grant researchers presented superior performance than the other professors working in graduate programs in the production engineering area. There is a tendency towards the increase in the mean of supervisions to master students starting from the highest aggregate level of productivity grants going down to the beginner levels. In comparison with the other permanent professors in graduate programs, who do not hold productivity grants, the tutorial mean for both masters and doctorate students of the grant researchers' is exactly the same as group 2PQ. PQ researchers usually present high scientific production ad low technical production, while DT researchers present low scientific production and high technical production. There seems to be logical coherence regarding the distribution of grants, at least with respect to the easily measurable progression criteria. However, there is some evidence that for criteria that are harder to assess, there may be some discrepancies.

Purpose This study aims to expose the main knowledge management (KM) practices applied in BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) industries using scientific literature published in the Scopus database from 2001 to 2010. Design/methodology/approach A search was performed in papers selected from the Scopus database, which houses the KM practices of industries in BRIC countries. Findings The results show that Brazil, Russia and India have an easier way of converting tacit knowledge into explicit knowledge compared to China, where informal relationships of trust and friendship play a special role within organizations, as well as where the political structure (communism) is an intervening factor. Brazil, Russia and India practice similar KM mechanisms such as the use of technology, process standardization and electronic data management. They also model the positive experiences of western companies. In China, interpersonal relationships shape the tacit and explicit features of organizations. Research limitations/implications The methodological filter could potentially limit the volume of responses, as not every case study can demonstrate the usual practices of KM. Empirical studies are able to capture the nuances and even provide a holistic picture of these practices. Practical Implications The results have practical implication, in particular. They are expected to help managers and workers to better comprehend KM practices in BRIC countries or even suggest new KM practices in the business. Originality/value The main discussion of this paper brings together a large range of KM practices applied in BRIC, addressing similarities and differences between KM deployments.

This paper describes a transversal study involving 296 undergraduate mechanical engineering students, using a descriptive probabilistic approach. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the level of life quality and physical activity of the participants, comparing them to variables indicative of health risk factors. It was found that 70.6% of the study population evaluated their life quality standard as good or very good. With respect to their level of physical activity, 38.8% of the participants are physically inactive in their leisure time. As for the prevalence of risk factors, 3.7% of them belong to high risk groups: sedentary, overweight, and/or smokers. In addition, the hypothesis of a direct correlation between the level of physical fitness and life quality is confirmed.

O trabalho em questão tem o intuito de contribuir para com o tema Qualidade de Vida no Trabalho (QVT), analisando as possíveis relações entre QVT e Comprometimento Organizacional (CO) através de aplicação de questionários estruturados. Para tal, utilizou-se uma amostra de 40 colaboradores de uma loja de departamentos de uma rede nacional de varejo de moda localizada no município de Joinville/SC. Para efetuar o estudo, utilizou-se o coeficiente de Pearson para demonstrar a relação entre os fatores. Os resultados indicaram uma relação moderada positiva entre a QVT e CO na faceta “Permanência” do colaborador na organização. Concluiu-se que melhorando a percepção positiva da QVT por parte dos colaboradores, possivelmente pode-se esperar menor rotatividade de pessoas.

The objective of this study was to verify whether the energy content and nutritional composition of meals consumed at work (lunch) correlated with the energy expenditure and nutritional status of workers from different sectors (administration and production) of different industries. The sample consisted of 292 workers. Many anthropometric dimensions were assessed, such as physical activity energy expenditure, and daily energy expenditure (DEE). Food intake was measured directly for five days. The study comprised an assessment of the correlation between sectors and gender, a qualitative assessment between obesity indicators, and a principal component analysis (PCA). The aim of this paper is to investigate the main practices of knowledge management (KM) employed by BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) from 2001 to 2014 in relation to their economic complexity (EC). The research is constructed by employing The Atlas of Economic Complexity database and gathering data related to the BRIC countries' EC ranking and the projected global growth throughout 2024. The country with the best outlook of ascension regarding EC is India, which has the largest number of KM practices. Russia, having the least amount of KM practices, has the worst EC projection.

Investments in infrastructure provide an increase in the market value of the poor population's assets when their residence is served by sewage, water and telephone networks. They also allow each region to specialise in the economic activities for which they have the greatest vocation (agriculture, services, etc.), creating productivity gains and quality for the economy. In this sense, this short paper aims, through bibliographic research on SCOPUS database and on federal agencies websites, to highlight the main modes of transportation in Brazil and evaluate the amount of investment done in infrastructure in recent years in Brazil.

O presente trabalho discute a necessidade das empresas da região Norte do Paraná, por profissionais formados nos Cursos Superiores de Tecnologia. Trata-se de uma pesquisa exploratória que, em função dos procedimentos técnicos adotados, pode ser caracterizada como um estudo de caso. O método de pesquisa empregado foi o indutivo. Os resultados mostram que há por parte das empresas a necessidade por profissionais formados nos Cursos Superiores de Tecnologia, na maioria dos casos, ele atua dentro de sua área de formação, e sua convivência com outros profissionais formados nas áreas tecnológicas ocorre normalmente. Concluiu-se que o tecnólogo no ambiente produtivo é um profissional necessário e que colabora em várias frentes, principalmente em face às novas tendências tecnológicas, uma vez que o mesmo recebe conhecimento teórico e prático e pode contribuir eficazmente tanto com as empresas quanto com a sociedade. The present paper discusses the needs from the northern Paraná companies for professionals graduated on Technological College Courses. It is an exploratory research that due to its adopted technical procedures may be characterized as a case study. The research method used was the inductive one. The results show that there is the necessity by the companies of professionals graduated on Technological College Courses, in their majority, who usually act within their specific area and their intimacy to other professionals on technological areas happens naturally. The conclusion of the research introduces the technologist within the productive environment as a professional to require as well as to collaborate to several fronts, mainly facing to the new technological tendencies since he gets a theoretical and practical knowledge and can contribute both to companies and society. Esa investigación discute la necesidad de las compañías del área Norte de Paraná por profesionales formados en las Universidades de Tecnología. Es una investigación exploratoria que, por los procedimientos técnicos adoptados, puede caracterizarse como un estudio de caso. El método de la investigación usado fue el inductivo. Los resultados confirman que hay por parte de las compañías la necesidad de profesionales formados en las Universidades de Tecnología; en la mayor parte de los casos ellos actúan dentro de su área de formación específica, y su convivencia con otros profesionales formados en las áreas tecnológicas ocurre normalmente. La conclusión de la investigación presenta el tecnólogo en el ambiente productivo como un profesional necesario a colaborar en varios frentes, principalmente si pensamos en las nuevas tendencias tecnológicas, una vez que él recibe el conocimiento teórico y práctico y puede contribuir eficazmente tanto con las compañías en cuanto a la sociedad.

Com os avanços da tecnologia e da comunicação eletrônica, novas equipes estão se desenvolvendo: são as equipes virtuais, ou grupos formados por pessoas com um objetivo comum que desenvolvem trabalho interdependente primariamente por meios eletrônicos. Apesar do potencial de expansão de negócios e flexibilidade que estas equipes trazem para empresas e funcionários, estruturá-las traz novos desafios para a gestão empresarial. Este estudo analisa as variáveis que podem interferir na implementação destas equipes, a partir da experiência de uma equipe virtual estruturada para operar um centro de distribuição têxtil. Os instrumentos de pesquisa foram: observação participante, análise documental e questionários com os membros da equipe virtual. Os resultados sugerem que, nos relacionamentos intermediados por tecnologia, problemas de comunicação podem ser maximizados, comprometendo a eficácia das interações e da equipe. A equipe estudada não conseguiu superar alguns dos obstáculos comuns às equipes virtuais, o que pode ter contribuído para o insucesso do projeto. With the advances in technology and electronic communication, new work teams are developing: they are the virtual teams, or work groups formed by people who develop interdependent work using primarily electronic communication. Even though virtual teams offer chances of expansion and flexibility for companies and employees, to properly structure these teams is a new challenge for companies' management. This study analyzes the variables that can intervene in the implementation of virtual teams, through the case of a virtual team structured to operate a textile distribution center. Research instruments used for data collection: participant observation, documental analysis and questionnaires with members of the virtual team. Results suggest that when relationships are intermediated by technology, communication problems can be maximized, compromising the effectiveness of interactions and the team. The studied team did not overcome some of the obstacles common to virtual teams, which may have contributed to the failure of the project.

This study aims to identify critical elements in Knowledge Management in companies in the second and third sectors of the economy of the region of Campos Gerais, Paraná, Brazil. This is a cross-sectional survey. The sample consisted of 191 workers. To collect the data, a social scale developed by Terra (1999) was used. It was found that the critical elements are, in order of relevance: human resource management; organizational structure; organizational culture and values; information and communication systems; learning through the environment; strategic factors; the role of senior management, and the measurement of results. It is concluded that for most organizations to reach the condition of a learning organization several critical elements need to be overcome.

Objective: To determine the incidence of cervicobrachial order discomforts in Elementary Public School teachers from 1st to 4th years in the city of Pato Branco - PR. Methods: Cross-sectional study made with 160 public school teachers from 1st to 4th years in the city of Pato Branco - PR. Data collection was made from a structured questionnaire, and a physical examination with manual palpation and orthopedic tests. Results: The obtained data showed the presence of pain in the trapezius muscle region, on the left side, in 52.5%; and, on the right side, in 50.6%. The analysis also showed that there is a strong relationship between the cervicobrachial problems presented and the labor activity. The final evaluation of this study demonstrates the great need of primary care for these workers, that is, carrying out activities to prevent musculoskeletal diseases developed through work, either to preserve the individuals' physical integrity or the quality of education. Conclusions: The prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders was high among teachers. There is evidence that the prevalence was connected to job demands.

Intermodal transportation is characterized by the transfer of goods from the origin point to a destination, involving two or more different modals of transportation. This paper aims to analyze modal road and rail transportation in the Campos Gerais region, as a form of concentrated cargos (storage and distribution) in this region. The empirical secondary data was obtained from federal agencies, such as the Ministry of Development and Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE). The modal choice emphasizes each specific characteristic and costs cutting. The Campos Gerais region presents significant exports, representing 41% of the state of Parana in 2004. The logistics junction of Campos Gerais region is focused on modal road-rail, centering on a large volume of cargo in this region.

This study aims to analyze the syntax of the World Health Organization's quality of life HIV/AIDS instrument (WHOQOL-HIV), provided by the WHOQOL-HIV Group. As a result, errors and inconsistencies in the syntax of WHOQOL-HIV were found. In face of the fragility found, two new syntaxes for WHOQOL-HIV were proposed: (a) a correction of errors found in the original syntax; and (b) restructuration of the calculation of scores for WHOQOL-HIV, bringing it closer to the WHOQOL-100. Through the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software, the syntaxes proposed were tested and compared to the syntax of the original WHOQOL-HIV. It was noted that both proposals met their respective purposes. They were also sent to researchers on the theme under consideration to verify the presence of errors. No irregularity was found. It can be concluded that the syntax of the WHOQOL-HIV differs significantly from the syntax of its precursor, the WHOQOL-100, presenting errors and inconsistencies. The differences observed compromise the fidelity of the instrument under consideration and, therefore, it is here commended the use of the syntax proposed in this study, which offers superior precision to portray the empirical reality of quality of life in human immunodeficiency virus positive people.

This paper features a field research in a Wood Company located in the city of Ponta Grossa, State of Parana, which from 2000 on started producing two items named “clear blocks” and “blanks”. They were exclusively destined to exportation and in the internal market only the sub products, which resulted from the process, were sold. Then, there was a change in the production profile due to the acquisition of the “Finger joint” machine, which is specific for the achievement of one of the most important stages in wood benefaction. Thus, this study shows how Product Engineering is important for the growth of a company, which was small and turned out to be an important exportation corporation. The objective of this research was to analyze how the flood of information generated in the conception and accomplishment of the strategical planning incites the creation of the organizational knowledge, and for consequence, the management of the different knowledge ' in the organization what makes possible the formularization of one adequate strategical planning. The used methodology was of documentary research and the participant comment in the conception and accomplishment of the strategical planning in a company of foods and drinks. It was verified that the organization of the strategical planning provides a flood of information derived from several sources, and making possible the dissemination and creation of knowledge in all company, extending the organizational knowledge. With the organization of the strategical planning the actions of all the company had been presented lined up, providing to the company the best exploitation of chances reducing the weak points and extending the strong points, giving the opportunity of all collaborators contributing with the addition of the different knowledge.

Este artigo apresenta os resultados de uma pesquisa realizada em 2004 e trata do desempenho humano quando exposto a tensão ocasionada pela complexidade, isto é, quando sujeito a um desequilíbrio entre o grau de exigências do trabalho e os recursos disponíveis para gerenciálo; quando o processo de tomada de decisão deve ser muito rápido, em que o tempo de avaliação é pequeno e as conseqüências de cada ato podem ser muito importantes. O objetivo é conhecer a influência, na tomada de decisão em vários momentos da emergência, de fatores como: recursos disponíveis, experiência da pessoa responsável pela tomada de decisão/comandante, tempo para agir, presença de curiosos e estranhos no local e participação anterior do comandante em exercícios simulados. A pesquisa é qualitativa. A coleta de dados foi baseada em um questionário e foi realizada no Corpo de Bombeiros do Paraná, na cidade de Ponta Grossa, com uma amostra de oito oficiais. O resultado obtido na pesquisa mostra que quando a tensão, devido à complexidade da emergência cresce, também cresce o grau de influência, para os fatores analisados, no desempenho do comandante. A introdução de produtos agrícolas com características nutricionais diferenciadas tem alterado a relação, a montante e a jusante das empresas que os produzem e comercializam. É necessária uma coordenação no Sistema Agroindustrial introduzindo-se a rastreabilidade, como forma de garantir a conformidade dos produtos, atendendo a clientes externos e agroindústrias que exigem uma certificação da qualidade. Por meio dessa ferramenta de qualidade, são identificados detalhes na cadeia produtiva como sementes, lavoura, colheita, armazenagem, transporte e industrialização do produto. Dessa forma, esse artigo descreve o conceito de rastreabilidade e fornece informações de produtos especiais de uma cooperativa paranaense com processo controlado de informações na cadeia produtiva, exigido por parcerias contratuais feitas com empresas fornecedoras de insumos e processadoras de alimentos. Identificou-se que, essa cooperativa transaciona três produtos que necessitam da rastreabilidade: dois tipos especiais de milho e a soja convencional.

Summary the modern organizations are facing surrounding extremely dynamic, provoking radical alterations in the way to be managed. Thus, with the advent and the perfectioning of the organizations theories, the knowledge became the more important economic factor in the competitive environment of the organizations. Treating more specifically to the sportive area, in Brazil the clubs that more adopted the paradigms of enterprise organization had been the Teamses of Soccer, for if dealing with the sport most popular of the country. This study it has as objective to investigate, inside of a Club of national Soccer, if it exists the development of teams of high performance and which had been the taken procedures to arrive itself at this. The methodology of the research used in this study is of the qualitative and exploratory type, of the point of view of its nature that has as characteristic an applied research. For the collection of data the half-structuralized interview was used as instrument. The analysis was established in the procedure of the content analysis. The conclusions of the research had pointed that the results reached in the activity end of the club, the sportive context, using the sharing of the knowledge through a disciplined model of management are an example of that the management of the knowledge lead to the evolution of the organization. In the case of the Athletical club Paranaense, the performance of the directive team demonstrated, through the management of the knowledge, to establish clear objectives of performance, defined and accomplished the goals based on performance, found the work boarding integrating abilities and, mainly, it developed objective ways to implant disciplines it conscientious of that all are responsible for the presented results.
