1. Localization and size estimation for breaks in nuclear power plants

Abstract: Several algorithms for nuclear power plant (NPP) break event detection, isolation, localization, and size estimation are proposed. A break event can be promptly detected and isolated after its occurrence by simultaneously monitoring changes in the sensing readings and by employing an interquartile range-based isolation scheme. By considering the multi-sensor data block of a break to be rank-one, it can be located as the position whose lead field vector is most orthogonal to the noise subspace of that data block using the Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm. Owing to the flexibility of deep neural networks in selecting the best regression model for the available data, we can estimate the break size using multiple-sensor recordings of the break regardless of the sensor types. The efficacy of the proposed algorithms was evaluated using the data generated by Maanshan NPP simulator. The experimental results demonstrated that the MUSIC method could distinguish two near breaks. However, if the two breaks were close and of small sizes, the MUSIC method might wrongly locate them. The break sizes estimated by the proposed deep learning model were close to their actual values, but relative errors of more than 8% were seen while estimating small breaks’ sizes.

2. Retinal thickness and microvascular alterations in the diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus: a new approach

Abstract: BACKGROUND: To investigate the differences of retinal thickness (RT) and superficial vascular density (SVD) between patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and healthy controls using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). METHODS: Individuals with SLE (n=12; 24 eyes) and healthy controls (n=12; 24 eyes) were recruited to this study. The study protocol was in accordance with the tenets of the Declaration of Helsinki (as revised in 2013). The monocular best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was determined using a Snellen eye chart. Each image was segmented into 9 early treatment diabetic retinopathy study subregions, within which the macular RT and SVD were measured by OCTA. The vascular perfusion area as a percentage of the measured area was considered to be the vascular density. RESULTS: The mean age of the SLE group was 33.80±9.49 years, and the mean age of the control group was 33.20±9.41 years. The mean duration of SLE was 4.33±2.67 years. The BCVA was significantly different between the SLE and control groups (0.17±0.20 vs. 0.05±0.07, respectively; P=0.021). Abstract: Haploidentical allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (haplo-HSCT) is a significant alternative treatment for severe aplastic anaemia (SAA). To improve this process by modifying the risk stratification system, we conducted a retrospective study using our database. 432 SAA patients who received haplo-HSCT between 2006 and 2020 were enrolled. These patients were divided into a training (n = 288) and a validation (n = 144) subset randomly. In the training cohort, longer time from diagnosis to transplantation, poorer Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) status and higher haematopoietic cell transplantation-specific comorbidity index (HCT-CI) score were independent risk factors for worse treatment-related mortality (TRM) in the final multivariable model. The haplo-HSCT scoring system was developed by these three parameters. Three-year TRM after haplo-HSCT were 6% [95% confidence interval (CI), 1-21%], 21% (95% CI, 7-40%), and 47% (95% CI, 20-70%) for the low-, intermediate-, and high-risk group, respectively (P < 0·0001). In the validation cohort, the haplo-HSCT scoring system also separated patients into three risk groups with increasing risk of TRM: intermediate-risk [hazard ratio (HR) 2·45, 95% CI, 0·92-6·53] and high-risk (HR 11·74, 95% CI, 3·07-44·89) compared with the low-risk group (P = 0·001). In conclusion, the haplo-HSCT scoring system could effectively predict TRM after transplantation.

4. Investigating socially assistive systems from system design and evaluation: a systematic review

Abstract: Purpose The development of assistive technologies that support people in social interactions has attracted increased attention in HCI. This paper presents a systematic review of studies of Socially Assistive Systems targeted at older adults and people with disabilities. The purpose is threefold: (1) Characterizing related assistive systems with a special focus on the system design, primarily including HCI technologies used and user-involvement approach taken; (2) Examining their ways of system evaluation; (3) Reflecting on insights for future design research. Methods A systematic literature search was conducted using the keywords “social interactions” and “assistive technologies” within the following databases: Scopus, Web of Science, ACM, Science Direct, PubMed, and IEEE Xplore. Results Sixty-five papers met the inclusion criteria and were further analyzed. Our results showed that there were 11 types of HCI technologies that supported social interactions for target users. The most common was cognitive and meaning understanding technologies, often applied with wearable devices for compensating users’ sensory loss; 33.85% of studies involved end-users and stakeholders in the design phase; Four types of evaluation methods were identified. The majority of studies adopted laboratory experiments to measure user-system interaction and system validation. Proxy users were used in system evaluation, especially in initial experiments; 42.46% of evaluations were conducted in field settings, primarily including the participants’ own homes and institutions. Conclusion We contribute an overview of Socially Assistive Systems that support social interactions for older adults and people with disabilities, as well as illustrate emerging technologies and research opportunities for future work.

5. Reaction-inhibited interfacial coating between PEDOT:PSS sensing membrane and ITO electrode for highly-reliable piezoresistive pressure sensing applications

Abstract: Background Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly-(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) is a promising conductive polymer for the flexible piezoresistive pressure sensor. However, intrinsic hydrophilicity is detrimental to its structural stability under moisture. The present study aims to enhance piezoresistive pressure sensors' stability to achieve the highly-reliable electronic device applications. Method ITO/PEDOT:PSS/ITO piezoresistive pressure sensors with an interdigitated electrode (IDE) structure and different metallic interfacial layers were fabricated. Au layer was introduced between PEDOT:PSS sensing membrane and indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode as a reaction-inhibited interfacial coating of piezoresistive pressure sensors. Significant findings After a measurement time interval of 6 months, the interface reaction suppressed significantly, resulting in low sensitivity deviation (9.22%) and improved durability (400 cycles). The devices are completely sealed using polyethylene terephthalate packaging, avoiding humidity absorption in PEDOT:PSS films successfully. The packaged ITO/PEDOT:PSS/ITO piezoresistive pressure sensors with a double-sided 10-nm-thick Au interfacial layer is a promising candidate for use in highly reliable pressure sensing applications.

Abstract: Relapse is the main problem after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). The outcome of a second allo-HSCT (HSCT2) for relapse post-HSCT has shown promising results in some previous studies. However, little is known about the efficacy of HSCT2 in patients with relapsed/refractory acute leukemia (AL) post-chemotherapy plus modified donor lymphocyte infusion (post-Chemo + m-DLI) after the first allo-HSCT (HSCT1). Therefore, we retrospectively analyzed the efficacy of HSCT2 in 28 patients with relapsed/refractory AL post-Chemo + m-DLI in our center. With a median follow-up of 918 (457-1732) days, 26 patients (92.9%) achieved complete remission, and 2 patients exhibited persistent disease. The probabilities of overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) 1 year after HSCT2 were 25.0% and 21.4%, respectively. The cumulative incidences of nonrelapse mortality on day 100 and at 1 year post-HSCT2 were 7.1% ± 4.9% and 25.0% ± 8.4%. The cumulative incidences of relapse were 50.0% ± 9.8% and 53.5% ± 9.9% at 1 and 2 years post-HSCT2, respectively. Risk stratification prior to HSCT1 and percentage of blasts before HSCT2 were independent risk factors for OS post-HSCT2, and relapse within 6 months post-HSCT1 was an independent risk factor for DFS and relapse post-HSCT2. Our findings suggest that HSCT2 could be a salvage option for patients with relapsed AL post-Chemo + m-DLI.

Abstract: Although remarkable improvement has been achieved in stretchable strain sensors, challenges still exist in aspects including intelligent sensing, simultaneous data processing, and scalable fabrication techniques. In this work, a strain-sensitive device is presented by fabricating a CsPbBr3 quantum dots (QDs) floating-gate field-effect transistor (FET) sensing array on thin polyimide (PI) films. The FET exhibits an excellent on/off ratio (>103) and a large memory window (>2 V). With the introduction of CsPbBr3 QDs as the trapping layer, an additional UV response is obtained because of the photogenerated charge carriers that significantly enhance the source-drain current (IDS) of the device. At each electrical state, the IDS varies with the strains and the sensing range is from compressive +12.5% to tensile -10.8%. Excellent data retainability and mechanical durability demonstrate the high quality and reliability of the fabricated sensors. Furthermore, synapse functions including long-term potentiation (LTP), long-term depression (LTD), etc., are emulated at the device level. Linearity factor changes of LTP/LTD in different sensing scenarios demonstrate the reliability of the device and further confirm the different sensing mechanisms with/without UV illumination. Our results exhibit the potential of transistor-based devices for multifunctional intelligent sensing.

Abstract: Background Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a deadly disease that lack of effective therapeutic drugs. K-001 is an oral antitumor drug made from active ingredients of marine microorganisms. The current study aimed to evaluate safety and antitumor activity of K-001 in patients with advanced PDAC. Methods In this phase I, open-label trial, patients with advanced PDAC were recruited to a dose-escalation study in a standard 3 + 3 design. K-001 was administered twice daily in four-week cycles, and dose escalation from 1350 mg to 2160 mg was evaluated twice daily. Physical examination and laboratory tests were done at screening and then weekly. The safety, dose-limiting toxicity (DLT), and maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of K-001 were assessed while tumor response was estimated by Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumor (RECIST). Results Eighteen patients with advanced PDAC were screened, and twelve eligible patients were analyzed in the study. No DLT was observed. Totally, 47 adverse events (AEs) presented, and 14 drug-related AEs were reported in 7 patients, including 8 grade 1 events (57.1%) and 6 grade 2 events (42.9%). There was no grade 3 or 4 drug-related AE. In these 14 drug-related AEs, the most frequent ones were dyspepsia (21.4%), followed by flatulence, constipation, and hemorrhoid bleeding (above 10% of each). Among all 12 patients, 10 patients (83.3%) maintained stable disease (SD), and 2 patients (16.7%) had progressive disease (PD). The objective response rate (ORR) was 0% and the disease control rate (DCR) was 83.3%. Conclusions K-001 manifests satisfactory safety and tolerability, as well as meaningful antitumor activity in advanced PDAC patients. Further evaluation of K-001 in phase II/III appears warranted. 9. The impact of a barrier enclosure on time to tracheal intubation: a randomized controlled trial

Abstract: Novel devices such as the barrier enclosure were developed in hopes of improving provider safety by limiting SARS-CoV-2 transmission during tracheal intubation. Nevertheless, concerns arose regarding a lack of rigorous efficacy and safety data for these devices. We conducted a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the impact of the barrier enclosure on time to tracheal intubation.After Research Ethics Board approval, elective surgical patients with normal airway predictors were randomly allocated 1:1 to tracheal intubation with or without a barrier enclosure. The primary outcome was time to tracheal intubation. Secondary outcomes included first-pass success rate, total time of airway manipulation, anesthesiologists' perception of intubation difficulty, likelihood of use in SARS-CoV-2-positive patients, and patients' perception of comfort and acceptability.There were 48 participants in the barrier enclosure group and 46 participants in the control group. The mean (standard deviation [SD]) time to tracheal intubation was 62 (29) sec with barrier closure and 53 (27) sec without barrier enclosure (mean difference, 9 sec; 95% confidence interval, - 3 to 20; P = 0.14). Anesthesiologists rated the difficulty of intubation higher with barrier enclosure (mean [SD] visual analogue scale score, 27 [26] mm vs 9 [17] mm; P0.001). There were no significant differences in other secondary outcomes.In healthy surgical patients with normal airway predictors, the use of a barrier enclosure during tracheal intubation did not significantly prolong time to intubation or decrease first-pass intubation success. Néanmoins, des inquiétudes ont été soulevées au sujet d’un manque de données rigoureuses sur l’efficacité et l’innocuité de ces dispositifs. Nous avons réalisé une étude randomisée contrôlée afin d’évaluer l’impact d’une boîte de protection sur le temps de l’intubation endotrachéale. MéTHODE: Après avoir reçu l’approbation du Comité d’éthique de la recherche, des patients de chirurgie élective présentant des prédicteurs des voies aériennes normales ont été aléatoirement répartis à un ratio de 1:1 pour une intubation endotrachéale avec ou sans boîte de protection. Le critère d’évaluation principal était le temps nécessaire à l’intubation endotrachéale. Les critères d’évaluation secondaires comprenaient le taux de réussite à la première tentative, le temps total de manipulation des voies aériennes, la perception par les anesthésiologistes de la difficulté d’intubation, la probabilité d’utilisation chez les patients atteints du SRAS-CoV-2, et la perception de confort et d’acceptabilité des patients. RéSULTATS: Il y avait 48 participants dans le groupe avec boîte et 46 participants dans le groupe témoin. Le temps moyen (écart type [ÉT]) pour l’intubation endotrachéale était de 62 (29) sec avec la boîte et de 53 (27) sec sans la boîte (différence moyenne, 9 sec; intervalle de confiance de 95 %, − 3 à 20; P = 0,14). Abstract: It is of great significance to develop multifunction-integrated photoelectric synaptic devices with the simple structure to imitate the functions of eyes. In this work, we reported the multimodal photoelectric neuromorphic thin film transistors (TFTs) with single gate and two input terminals using sorted semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes (sc-SWCNTs) mixed with lead-free perovskite (CsBi3I10) and lightly n-doped silicon as active layers and gate electrodes. The results showed that optical and electrical responses of SWCNT TFTs could increase 26 and 23 times after addition of CsBi3I10 under the same pulse sequence stimulation, respectively. Apart from emulating a series of typical synaptic functionalities, an artificial neural network based on SWCNT phototransistors was simulated to be trained for the recognition of handwritten digits in the Modified National Institute of Standards and Technology with the maximum accuracy of about 85.46%. Moreover, our synaptic devices can imitate traditional Pavlovian conditioning, and show NOR logic, reproducible flash memory functions under the optical and electrical programming stimulations. It is noted that the erasing voltage (3 V, 0.2 s) is one of the best value among the reported phototransistor memory. Furthermore, our synaptic devices can work well after more than 150 programming/erasing operation cycles and over 40 days testing.

Abstract: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a common comorbidity and risk factor for postoperative complications in head and neck (H&N) microsurgical reconstructions. Our study focused on the association between DM and individual complications regarding both surgical and medical aspects. Abstract: Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) has been regarded as a potential strategy for myeloid sarcoma (MS). The previous reports focused mainly on matched sibling donor (MSD) or matched unrelated donor (MUD) transplantation. There are no reports on haploidentical HSCT (haplo-HSCT) in MS. We retrospectively reviewed 14 MS patients who underwent haplo-HSCT. All patients achieved complete donor engraftment. The median time for neutrophil engraftment and platelet engraftment were 10 (12–21) days and 18 (8–31) days. The 100-day cumulative incidence of grade II–IV acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and 3-year cumulative incidence of chronic GVHD were 37.7% (95%CI, 23.2–52.1%) and 35.7% (95%CI, 22.2–49.2%). Cytomegalovirus (CMV) reactivation was documented in 86% patients, and only one patient developed CMV pneumonia. Treatment-related mortality occurred in one (7%) patient. The 1- and 3-year cumulative incidence of relapse was 21.4% (95%CI, 11.8–31.1%) and 35.7% (95%CI, 22.4–49.0%). The probability of overall survival at 1 and 3 years was 71.4% (95%CI, 51.3–99.5%) and 64.3% (95%CI, 43.5–95.0%), respectively. The probability of disease-free survival at 1 and 3 years was 71.4% (95%CI, 51.3–99.5%) and 57.1% (95%CI, 36.3–89.9%), respectively. In conclusion, haplo-HSCT is a feasible method for patients with MS who have no MSD or MUD.

Abstract: Recently, mainstream silicon (Si)-based materials and complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology have been used in developing extremely tiny sized (of a few nanometers) devices. However, with the reduction of transistor characteristic dimensions, many new challenges such as the short channel effect and high heat dissipation problems have emerged. Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (2D TMDs) are deemed the most promising semiconductor materials to conquer the challenge of the short channel effect owing to their excellent properties, including high mobility and atomic thickness. Nevertheless, Fermi-level pinning (FLP) occurs when TMDs are in direct contact with metal electrodes, which causes an uncontrollable Schottky barrier and a high contact resistance, limiting the device performance. In this review, we summarize the recent progress on how to circumvent FLP between 2D TMDs semiconductors and metals. Firstly, the related concepts, aiming to get an in-depth understanding of FLP are introduced. Secondly, we discuss the factors contributing to FLP in detail and the strategies of Fermi-level depinning according to these factors. Finally, we present a summary and outlook, which will provide a guideline for suppressing FLP in the process of fabricating high-performance 2D TMD devices.

Abstract: Resistive random access memories (RRAMs) based on the electrochemical metallization mechanism (ECM) have potential applications in high-density data storage and efficient neuromorphic computing. However, the high variability of ECM devices still hinders their application in artificial intelligence owing to the random formation of conductive filaments (CFs). Here, we demonstrate 2D covalent organic framework (COF) RRAM with electroforming-free resistive switching behavior, low spatial/temporal variations, and excellent retention capability up to 105 s. The one-dimensional channels of the oriented COF-5 film can not only confine the shape of filaments but also modulate the transition direction of Ag ions. Moreover, alcohol vapors could activate the device to achieve gas-mediated multilevel resistive switching since COF materials can absorb small molecules through host guest interactions to vary the conductivity. An alcohol gas recognition system constructed by integrating the COF RRAM as a sensor and filter part with the k-nearest neighbors (KNN) algorithm as a classifier was demonstrated with a recognition accuracy of 87.2%. Furthermore, the effect of alcohol inhibition stimulation in the human nervous system is successfully emulated by the COF RRAM.

Abstract: The saturation of Moore's law and the finality of Dennard scaling highlight the need for new data-storage approaches employing different physical mechanisms. Due to the low operation voltage, multibit storage and cost-effective manufacturability, memristive devices are considered to be one of the most attractive alternatives to conventional silicon-based memory. Typically, memristive devices can be switched to a low resistance state or a high resistance state by electrical SET/RESET operations, respectively. Recent years have witnessed a surge of research interest in optoelectronic memories, where tunable switching characteristics, coexistence of volatile and non-volatile behaviours, multilevel programming capability and programming/erasing steps can be achieved optically. In this work we introduce an electro-photoactive memristive device based on natural melanin with favorable electrical and optical properties. The device shows reproducible bipolar resistive switching with a low SET voltage (0.2 V) and an ON/OFF ratio over 104. The SET voltage can be easily tuned from 0.2 V to 1.2 V by varying the wavelength or the intensity of the optical input. Due to this phototunable switching characteristic, light-driven switchable NAND and NOR operations have been realized on a melanin-based circuit.

Abstract: With the miniaturization of silicon-based electronic components, power consumption is becoming a fundamental issue for micro-nano electronic circuits. The main reason for this is that the scaling of the supply voltage in the ultra-large-scale integrated circuit cannot keep up with the shrinking of the characteristic size of conventional transistors due to the physical limit termed "Boltzmann Tyranny", in which a gate voltage of at least 60 mV is required to modulate the drain current by one order of magnitude. Accordingly, to solve this problem, several new transistor architectures have been designed to reduce the subthreshold swing (SS) to lower than the fundamental limitation, thus lowering the supply voltage and reducing the power consumption. In this review, we first analytically formulate the SS, summarize the methods for reducing the SS, and propose four new transistor concepts, including tunnelling field-effect transistor, negative capacitance field-effect transistor, impact ionization field-effect transistor, and cold source field-effect transistor. Then, we review their physical mechanisms and optimization methods and consider the potential and drawbacks of these four new transistors. Finally, we discuss the challenges encountered in the investigation of these steep-slope transistors and present the future outlook.

Abstract: Resistive random access memory (RRAM) based on hybrid organic–inorganic halide perovskite (HOIP) materials has recently gained significant interest due to its low activation energy of ion migration. HOIP RRAM has been reported to exhibit outstanding performance, but they still suffer from issues of high operating voltage and poor uniformity. Here, we provide an efficient method for improving the resistive switching characteristics of HOIP RRAM by integrating an Au tip in the bottom electrode to regulate the growth of conductive filaments (CFs). The Ag/polymethylmethacrylate/CH3NH3PbI3/Au tip/indium tin oxide RRAM exhibits a lower set voltage of −0.11 V, a larger ON/OFF ratio of 108, excellent durability (up to 4 × 103 times), low power consumption, and good non-volatility. Moreover, the time-dependent resistive switching characteristics were investigated by a statistical analysis of the data on the turn-on time based on the Weibull distribution. Tests using transmission electron microscopy, electron energy depletion spectroscopy, and energy dispersive spectroscopy have demonstrated that the formation and rupture of CFs occur mainly in the CH3NH3PbI3 layer and that the CFs should be composed of Ag atoms and I vacancies. Our research offers a strategy for enhancing the stability of perovskite devices and promoting the application of low-power, high-density non-volatile memory devices.

Herein, we report an optoelectronic synapse based on a polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVPy)-upconverting nanoparticle (UCNP) hybrid floating gate transistor. The UCNP-based synaptic transistor exhibits a remarkable near-infrared (NIR)-induced de-trapping behaviour as well as a long retention time. Furthermore, our device is employed to successfully emulate various synaptic functions including postsynaptic current with different duration times and pulse amplitudes, paired-pulse facilitation/depression, transition from short-term plasticity to long-term plasticity and learning-forgetting-relearning processes. Overall, this work may open up a new opportunity for NIR optoelectronic synapses.

Abstract: Fog is the main weather phenomenon that causes low visibility, which makes traffic and outdoor work extremely dangerous. In this paper, we propose a novel LSTM framework for short-term fog forecasting. The proposed network framework consists of an LSTM network and fully connected layer. In order to make the proposed LSTM framework work, the meteorological element observation data returned hourly is transferred into time series data. Based on these time series data, four datasets are created for short-term fog forecasting. In order to evaluate the proposed LSTM framework, we conduct comprehensive experiments with different machine learning algorithms. Compared with K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), AdaBoost and convolutional neural network (CNN) algorithms, the experimental results show that the proposed LSTM framework achieves best prediction performance in four evaluation criteria. Especially in TS-Score, the proposed LSTM framework achieve 1.1%, 11%, 3%, and 11% higher performance than the best traditional machine learning algorithm.

Abstract: Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have earned considerable attention and are candidates against the inevitable energy crisis. Even though various successful PSCs have emerged, increasing the PCE by reinforcing charge collection is still a critical issue. The manipulation of carriers between the perovskite active layer and the electron extraction layer (EEL) is essential. Here, we prepared a tin-doped TiO2 (Sn/TiO2) EEL that presented two main polymorphs, anatase and rutile, and successfully fabricated a high-performance planar PSCs. Besides, the band alignment between EEL and perovskite active layer could be optimized by tuning the Sn doping concentration and the ratio of anatase and rutile phases. The intrinsic conductivity, interface morphology, band alignment, and charge carrier dynamic were characterized and the relationship to the photovoltaic performance was clarified. As the Sn ions being doped into TiO2 structure, EEL presented the mixed TiO2 rutile/anatase phase, directly narrowing the bandgap and promoting mobility. Furthermore, the adjustment of the band structure can facilitate electronic transitions. Finally, a promising planar PSC with Sn/TiO2 phase junction EEL achieved a champion PCE of 15.4%.

Abstract: This paper describes the application of comparison training (CT) for automatic feature weight tuning, with the final objective of improving the evaluation functions used in Chinese chess programs. First, we propose an n-tuple network to extract features, since n-tuple networks require very little expert knowledge through its large numbers of features, while simulta-neously allowing easy access. Second, we propose a novel evalua-tion method that incorporates tapered eval into CT. Experiments show that with the same features and the same Chinese chess program, the automatically tuned comparison training feature weights achieved a win rate of 86.58% against the weights that were hand-tuned. The above trained version was then improved by adding additional features, most importantly n-tuple features. Abstract: Tyrosine kinase inhibitors have significantly improved outcomes for non-small cell lung cancer patient. However, notwithstanding the favorable clinical effects, preclinical toxicity and clinical adverse effects (AEs) inevitably appeared. The impact on safety and degree of toxicity of these promising therapies is not well characterized in patients only with targeted therapy without any chemo- or radiotherapy. We report a case of a non-small cell lung cancer patient who was treated a series of tyrosine kinase inhibitors, including gefitinib, osimertinib, cabozantinib and anlotinib. However, the patient progressively developed into an explosive interstitial pneumonia and died. It is therefore necessary to monitor non-small cell lung cancer patients with tyrosine kinase inhibitors or with pre-existing interstitial lung disease (ILD) very closely as they are at high risk of developing fatal interstitial lung disease.

Abstract: Atopic dermatitis (AD) seriously affects the quality of life of children and their families. This meta-analysis aimed to comprehensively analyze health education on the treatment of children with AD and the quality of life of the patient's family. A comprehensive search of reference lists in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Wanfang, CNKI, and VIP databases from inception until April 2018 was performed. The weighted mean difference (WMD) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was calculated. A total of eight randomized controlled trials studies were included in the analysis. The heterogeneity among enrolled studies was statistically significant, and the random effects model was used. The meta-analysis showed that the health education group had significantly lower SCORing Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) (WMD = 7.57 [95% CI 2.77, 12.36], P = 0.002 at 3 months; WMD = 6.88 [95% CI 2.68, 11.08], P = 0.001 at 6 months; WMD = 8.67 [95% CI 3.67, 13.67], P = 0.0007 at 12 months), objective SCORAD (WMD = 7.60 [95% CI 1.37, 13.83], P = 0.02 at 6 months; WMD = 5.15 [95% CI 1.89, 8.41], P = 0.002 at 12 months), and Infants' Dermatology Quality of Life Index (WMD = 0.96 [95% CI 0.06, 1.86], P = 0.04 at 3 months, and WMD = 1.50 [95% CI 0.33, 2.67] at 6 months, P = 0.01) scores compared with the non-health education group. Health education could improve the treatment of children with AD and promote disease control.

Abstract: Post-truth denotes circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than are appeals to emotion and personal belief. Few researchers have investigated the influence of posttruth-era communication modes, especially emotional reporting modes, on people's attention bias, which is an essential feature of their information selection. We randomly divided 50 participants into an experimental group (n = 25), who read an emotional report, and a control group (n = 25), who read an objective, neutral report. Then both groups completed a dot-probe task to investigate whether attention bias was affected by the emotional reporting. Results show that it was more difficult for individuals who had read the emotional report to distinguish between negative and neutral social cues. This suggests that emotional news reports in the post-truth era can have an adverse effect on people's information selection mechanism, which hinders in-depth thinking and makes it difficult to distinguish which information is neutral versus threatening. Journalists should avoid becoming propaganda tools for certain interest groups to affect public sentiment, cause trouble, shift the focus of attention, and create conflict.

Abstract: In order to study the realization of medical image restoration, this study mainly adopts blind equalization algorithm to analyze medical images, and observes the improvement effect of blind equalization technology on medical images. In the process of medical image formation, it is unavoidable to be affected by point spread function, which leads to image degradation and brings great difficulties to diagnosis, and the results of degradation are often unpredictable. The results show that the blind restoration algorithm can restore the image when the degradation process of the medical image is uncertain, which makes the medical image clearer and more accurate, brings great convenience to the diagnosis, and also reduces the diagnostic errors caused by the unclear image.

Abstract: The continued growth in the demand of data storage and processing has spurred the development of high-performance storage technologies and brain-inspired neuromorphic hardware. Semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) offer an appealing option for these applications since they combine excellent electronic/optical properties and structural stability and can address the requirements of low-cost, large-area, and solution-based manufactured technologies. Here, we focus on the development of nonvolatile memories and neuromorphic computing systems based on QD thin-film solids. We introduce recent advances of QDs and highlight their unique electrical and optical features for designing future electronic devices. We also discuss the advantageous traits of QDs for novel and optimized memory techniques in both conventional flash memories and emerging memristors. Then, we review recent advances in QD-based neuromorphic devices from artificial synapses to light-sensory synaptic platforms. Finally, we highlight major challenges for commercial translation and consider future directions for the postsilicon era.

Abstract: This study investigated the epidemiological characteristics of cytomegalovirus retinitis (CMVR) after haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). We studied a cohort of 1466 consecutive patients who had undergone haploidentical HSCT between 2013 and 2017. We documented 34 episodes of CMVR in 31 patients, with a median onset of 167 days after the transplant. The cumulative incidence of CMVR was 2.3% 1 year after the transplant. Multivariate analysis suggested that platelet engraft failure at 100 days, EBV DNAemia, refractory or recurrent CMV DNAemia, and acute graft-versus-host disease were related to the development of CMVR in patients with CMV DNAemia. Abstract: The impact of ABO incompatibility on transplantation outcomes in severe aplastic anemia (SAA) patients receiving haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) remains controversial without published data. A total of 199 SAA patients receiving haploidentical HSCT from ABO-matched (n = 114), minor ABO-incompatible (n = 47), or major ABO-incompatible donors (n = 38) were included in this study. The median time and cumulative incidences of both myeloid and platelet engraftment in the ABO-compatible and ABO-incompatible groups were similar, and pure red cell aplasia was absent. Minor ABO incompatibility increased the rate of grade III-IV acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) (ABO compatible: 6.14 ± 0.05%, minor incompatible: 19.15 ± 0.34%, and major incompatible: 10.53 ± 0.25%; P = 0.051), but did not influence the rates of grade II-IV aGVHD or chronic GVHD (cGVHD). Minor ABO-incompatibility was identified as an independent risk factor for grade III-IV aGVHD by multivariate analysis (hazard ration (HR) = 4.00 (1.48-10.80), P = 0.006). Chronic GVHD, mortality, and treatment failure were not increased in the minor ABO-incompatible group. For SAA patients receiving haploidentical HSCT, ABO compatible donors are better than ABO minor incompatible donors if several haploidentical donors are available.

Abstract: The substantial amount of data generated every second in the big data age creates a pressing requirement for new and advanced data storage techniques. Luminescent nanomaterials (LNMs) not only possess the same optical properties as their bulk materials but also have unique electronic and mechanical characteristics due to the strong constraints of photons and electrons at the nanoscale, enabling the development of revolutionary methods for data storage with superhigh storage capacity, ultra-long working lifetime, and ultra-low power consumption. In this review, we investigate the latest achievements in LNMs for constructing next-generation data storage systems, with a focus on optical data storage and optoelectronic data storage. We summarize the LNMs used in data storage, namely upconversion nanomaterials, long persistence luminescent nanomaterials, and downconversion nanomaterials, and their applications in optical data storage and optoelectronic data storage. We conclude by discussing the superiority of the two types of data storage and survey the prospects for the field.

Abstract: Antimonene, which is similar to two-dimensional (2D) phosphorene, has recently gained considerable attention because of its thickness-dependent energy band structure. However, unlike phosphorene, undoped antimonene has an indirect bandgap only at the monolayer limit. In this work, an electrochemical sodium doping strategy was proposed to tune the energy band structure of antimonene. First-principles calculations indicated that a direct bandgap of 0.88 eV formed in 5.55% Na-doped antimonene, while undoped antimonene had an indirect bandgap of 2.38 eV. Optical and electrical measurements provided clear evidence for such a reconstruction of the energy band. We experimentally demonstrated p-type conduction in antimonene quantum dots (QDs)-based field-effect transistors. Furthermore, the induced direct bandgap enabled electric-field control of the surface-enhanced Raman scattering on plasmonic-free antimonene QDs. This allowed for detection of rhodamine 6G with a detection limit down to the sub-femtomolar level. Our study highlights the potential of doped antimonene as an emerging 2D semiconductor.

In this mini-review, the recent state-of-the-art developments related to organic small molecules for resistive random-access memory (RRAM) have been emphasized. Abstract: Memristor devices have been of great interest over the past decade for the implementation of brain-inspired memory and computing owing to their inherent multistage memory, exquisite structure and higher integration. Herein, a CsPbBr3 QD-based protocol was constructed to exhibit analog memristive characteristics. The field-driven charge trapping/detrapping process was accelerated in the highlighted asymmetric electrode configuration to enable persistent dual direction current modulation, which serves as a basis for synaptic weight variation in the human brain. Significantly, the synaptic functions of long-term potentiation (LTP), long-term depression (LTD) and spike-timing-dependent plasticity (STDP) have been emulated on the device level. Furthermore, light signal-facilitated paired-pulse facilitation (PPF) behavior was validated with in situ atomic force microscopy (AFM) based on electrical techniques. Abstract: Aggregation-induced emission (AIE) has attracted increasing attention in recent years in the search for luminescent materials with biomedical and optoelectronic applications. Understanding of its underlying mechanisms is fundamental for the rational design of new AIE materials. In the present work, density functional theory (DFT) calculations were carried out for a set of organic fluorophores which have been recently studied as candidates for color converters in visible light communication. Three of them were (Z)-4-benzylidene-2-methyloxazol-5(4H)-one derivatives combined with an electron-donating moiety of trimethylamine, tetraphenylethene or dimethoxy-tetraphenylethene (TPA-BMO, TPE-BMO or DM-TPE-BMO, respectively). The fourth compound was a diaminomaleonitrile-based Schiff base combined with a dimethylamine moiety (DMA-AM). Our calculations suggested that the restriction of the intramolecular vibration (RIV) mechanism is responsible for the AIE effect observed for TPE-BMO and DM-TPE-BMO in the solid state. On the other hand, the uncommon photophysical behavior reported for DMA-AM (including the AIE phenomenon) in the solid state was related to excitonic coupling effects. Fluorescence spectroscopy experiments confirmed the presence of strongly-coupled DMA-AM aggregates in the solid state. Finally, some electronic properties related to the semiconductor behavior were investigated to explore the potential of applying these fluorophores in light-emitting electronic devices. It must be highlighted that the largest electron-transfer rate constant was calculated for TPE-BMO using the semi-classical Marcus theory, while the largest hole-transfer rate constants were obtained for DMA-AM and TPA-BMO.

Abstract: Memristors that possess massive memory capacity and outstanding processing efficiency concurrently are vitally important to surmount the limitation of Moore's law and traditional Von Neumann bottleneck. Specifically, memristors are capable of integrating various functionalities such as information storage and processing into just one unit to obtain high electrical performance and thereby satisfy the contemporary needs. Here, a multifunctional polymer memristor with combined data storage and processing abilities on the basis of novel solution-processed poly(9,9-dioctyl-9H-fluorene)-alt-1,3-bis(2-ethylhexyl)-(5,7-di(thiophen-2-yl)-4H,8H-benzo[1,2-c:4,5-c′]dithiophene-4,8-dione)-alt-((2,4-pentanedionato)bis(2-(thiophen-2-yl)-pyridine)iridium) (PFTBDD-IrTPy) is demonstrated for the first time. As confirmed by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) as well as density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the memristive behavior of the multifunctional device is attributed to the synergetic electrochemical metallization and charge transfer effect. Associated with these cation regulating and charge transfer characteristics, our polymer memristor is capable of achieving diverse functionalities comprising multilevel data storage, biological synaptic emulation, Boolean logic function as well as basic arithmetic operations and commutative law of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. These experimental results will accelerate the development of metal complex polymer based memristors for various electronic applications.

Abstract: Severe cardiotoxicity is a fatal complication during high-dose cyclophosphamide (Cy)-based conditioning in hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) for severe aplastic anemia (SAA). This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of a modified conditioning regimen in haploidentical HSCT (haplo-HSCT) for severe-cardiotoxic-risk SAA patients. This BuCylow Flu conditioning utilized busulfan (Bu, 3.2 mg/kg for 2 days), low-dose Cy (100 mg/kg), fludarabine (150 mg/m2 ), and rabbit antithymocyte globulin (rATG, 10 mg/kg). Compared to BuCy conditioning using high-dose Cy of 200 mg/kg, Bu of 3.2 mg/kg for 2 days, and rATG of 10 mg/kg, the incidence of severe cardiotoxicity of BuCylow Flu conditioning was significantly decreased (2.17% vs 12.80%, p = .032). The engraftment rates (100% for neutrophil and 84.44% for platelet) were favorable. The probabilities of 100-day transplant-related mortality were similar in the BuCylow Flu and the BuCy group (8.75% vs 10.53%, p = .671). Both 1-year overall survival (88.79% vs 84.66%, p = .357) and 1-year failure-free survival (84.78% vs 81.70%, p = .535) were comparable. The BuCylow Flu group had higher rates of cytomegalovirus and Epstein-Barr virus reactivation. In conclusion, the BuCylow Flu provided reduced severe cardiotoxicity, and achieved favorable engraftment and survival. Our results suggest BuCylow Flu conditioning can be a feasible alternative for haplo-HSCT recipients at risk of severe cardiotoxicity.

Abstract: First impressions of personality traits can be inferred by non-verbal behaviours such as head pose, body postures, and hand gestures. Enabling social robots to infer the apparent personalities of their users based on such non-verbal cues will allow robots to gain the ability of adapting to their users, constituting a further step towards the personalisation of human–robot interactions. Deep learning architectures such as residual networks, 3D convolutional networks, and long-short time memory networks have been applied to classify human activities and actions in computer vision tasks. These same architectures are beginning to be applied to study human emotions and personality by focusing mainly on facial features in video recordings. In this work, we exploit body language cues to predict apparent personality traits for human–robot interactions. We customised four state-of-the-art neural network architectures to the task, and benchmarked them on a dataset of short side-view videos of dyadic interactions. Our results show the potential for deep learning architectures to predict apparent personality traits from body language cues. While the performance varied between models and personality traits, our results show that these models could still be able to predict sole personality traits, as exemplified by the results on the conscientiousness trait.

Abstract: The lobula giant movement detector (LGMD) is the movement-sensitive, wide-field visual neuron positioned in the third visual neuropile of lobula. LGMD neuron can anticipate collision and trigger avoidance efficiently owing to the earlier occurring firing peak before collision. Vision chips inspired by the LGMD have been successfully implemented in very-large-scale-integration (VLSI) system. However, transistor-based chips and single devices to simulate LGMD neurons make them bulky, energy-inefficient and complicated. The devices with relatively compact structure and simple operation mode to mimic the escape response of LGMD neuron have not been realized yet. Here, the artificial LGMD visual neuron is implemented using light-mediated threshold switching memristor. The non-monotonic response to light flow field originated from the formation and break of Ag conductive filaments is analogue to the escape response of LGMD neuron. Furthermore, robot navigation with obstacle avoidance capability and biomimetic compound eyes with wide field-of-view (FoV) detection capability are demonstrated., Development of real-time sensing capability in artificial vision system requires an integration that allow sensing, computation, and storage, whilst remain energy efficient and compact. Here, the authors mimic the lobula giant movement detector to achieve this objective via light-mediated threshold switching memristor.

Abstract: This study compared the accuracy of static computer-assisted implant surgery (sCAIS) planned through dental surface image registration and fiducial marker registration. Stone models of 30 patients were converted into digital dental casts by using a desktop scanner. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) was performed and superimposed to the digital dental casts with two methods: matching the dental surface images or matching the fiducial markers on a stereolithographic radiographic template. Following the implant planning, stereolithographic surgical guides were fabricated, and 56 fully guided implants were inserted by the same doctor. Deviations between planned and inserted implants were measured and compared using postoperative CBCT images. After adjustment for other potential influencing factors, compared with the fiducial marker registration group, significantly larger mean lateral deviations were noted in the dental surface registration group at both the implant platform and apex (p = 0.0188 and 0.0371, respectively). However, the mean lateral deviations for the dental surface registration (0.83 ± 0.51 mm at implant platform and 1.24 ± 0.68 mm at implant apex) were comparable to the literature. In conclusion, our findings indicate that although sCAIS planned using dental surface image registration was not statistically as accurate as that using fiducial marker registration, its accuracy was satisfactory for clinical use.

Abstract: Dialogue State Tracking (DST), which is the process of inferring user goals by estimating belief states given the dialogue history, plays a critical role in task-oriented dialogue systems. A coreference phenomenon observed in multi-turn conversations is not addressed by existing DST models, leading to sub-optimal performances. In this paper, we propose Coreference Dialogue State Tracker (CDST) that explicitly models the coreference feature. In particular, at each turn, the proposed model jointly predicts the coreferred domain-slot pair and extracts the coreference values from the dialogue context. Abstract: Two-dimensional MXene has enormous potential for application in industry and academia owing to its surface hydrophilicity and excellent electrochemical properties. However, the application of MXene in optoelectronic memory and logical computing is still facing challenges. In this study, an optoelectronic resistive random access memory (RRAM) based on silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs)@MXene-TiO2 nanosheets (AMT) was prepared through a low-cost and facile hydrothermal oxidation process. The fabricated device exhibited a typical bipolar switching behavior and controllable SET voltage. Furthermore, we successfully demonstrated a 4-bit in-memory digital comparator with AMT RRAMs, which can replace five logic gates in a traditional approach. The AMT-based digital comparator may open the door for future integrated functions and applications in optoelectronic data storage and simplify the complex logic operations.

Abstract: Funder: European Society of Intensive Care Medicine; doi: http://dx.doi.org/10.13039/501100013347, Funder: Flemish Society for Critical Care Nurses, Purpose: Intensive care unit (ICU) patients are particularly susceptible to developing pressure injuries. Epidemiologic data is however unavailable. We aimed to provide an international picture of the extent of pressure injuries and factors associated with ICU-acquired pressure injuries in adult ICU patients. Methods: International 1-day point-prevalence study; follow-up for outcome assessment until hospital discharge (maximum 12 weeks). Factors associated with ICU-acquired pressure injury and hospital mortality were assessed by generalised linear mixed-effects regression analysis. Results: Data from 13,254 patients in 1117 ICUs (90 countries) revealed 6747 pressure injuries; 3997 (59.2%) were ICU-acquired. Overall prevalence was 26.6% (95% confidence interval [CI] 25.9–27.3). ICU-acquired prevalence was 16.2% (95% CI 15.6–16.8). Sacrum (37%) and heels (19.5%) were most affected. Factors independently associated with ICU-acquired pressure injuries were older age, male sex, being underweight, emergency surgery, higher Simplified Acute Physiology Score II, Braden score < 19, ICU stay > 3 days, comorbidities (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, immunodeficiency), organ support (renal replacement, mechanical ventilation on ICU admission), and being in a low or lower-middle income-economy. Gradually increasing associations with mortality were identified for increasing severity of pressure injury: stage I (odds ratio [OR] 1.5; 95% CI 1.2–1.8), stage II (OR 1.6; 95% CI 1.4–1.9), and stage III or worse (OR 2.8; 95% CI 2.3–3.3). Conclusion: Pressure injuries are common in adult ICU patients. ICU-acquired pressure injuries are associated with mainly intrinsic factors and mortality. Optimal care standards, increased awareness, appropriate resource allocation, and further research into optimal prevention are pivotal to tackle this important patient safety threat.

Abstract: Gastric cancer remains one of the most lethal and prevalent malignancies, particularly in China. The majority of patients are diagnosed with gastric cancer at the late stages of the disease. Besides, the high relapse rate also contributes to the high mortality. Therefore, there exists an imperative need for the development of gastric cancer diagnostic techniques as well as novel indicators for gastric cancer metastasis. Exosomes, secreted by a variety of cell types, play critical roles in intercellular communication, which emerge as promising diagnostic biomarkers for gastric cancer. In this study, we present for the first time, at least to the best of our knowledge, the small RNA sequencing spectra of exosomes derived from the gastric cancer patient plasma using next-generation sequencing, focusing on the exploration of metastasis-related biomarkers. The exosomes enriched from patient plasma samples were well characterized by western blotting, transmission electron microscopy and nanoparticle-tracking analysis. In the following bioinformatic analysis of exosomal miRNAs, three candidates were proposed as the biomarkers for metastasis of gastric cancer, namely miR-10b-5p, miR-101-3p and miR-143-5p, for gastric cancer with lymph node metastasis, gastric cancer with ovarian metastasis and gastric cancer with liver metastasis, respectively. RT–qPCR was performed to test the accuracy of these candidates for validation. In conclusion, we successfully isolated and purified exosomes from plasma of patients with gastric cancer and identified several potential exosomal miRNA markers to distinguish gastric cancer patients with various kinds of metastasis.
