In this work, a pincer‐type complex [Cp*Ir‐(SNPh)(SNHPh)(C2B10H9)] (2) was synthesized and its reactivity studied in detail. Interestingly, molecular hydrogen can induce the transformation between the metalloradical [Cp*Ir‐(SNPh)2(C2B10H9)] (5.) and 2. A mixed‐valence complex, [(Cp*Ir)2‐(SNPh)2(C2B10H8)] (7.+), was also synthesized by one‐electron oxidation. Studies show that 7.+ is fully delocalized, possessing a four‐centered‐one‐electron (S‐Ir‐Ir‐S) bonding interaction. DFT calculations were also in good agreement with the experimental results. A synthetic trefoil knotted poly(ε-caprolatone)-block-poly(l-lactide) (TK-PLA-b-PCL) is synthesized via a ring-expansion strategy from a trefoil knotted tin (Sn) initiator. Ring-closing reaction between the bis-copper(I) templated phenanthroline complex and dibutyldimethoxytin results in a templated trefoil knotted initiator. The bis-copper(I) templated trefoil knotted poly(l-lactide) (TK-PLA) can be synthesized by ring-opening polymerization of l-lactide monomer, and decomplexation reaction of the templated TK-PLA will result in a geniune TK-PLA without constraint from the copper template. Subsequent insertion of ε-caprolactone in the bis-copper(I) templated TK-PLA forms the templated trefoil knotted block copolymer, i.e., TK-PLA-b-PCL, and the copper-free TK-PLA-b-PCL can be obtained by decomplexation reaction. Room-temperature sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have shown great promise in grid-scale energy storage, portable electronics, and electric vehicles because of the abundance of low-cost sodium. Sodium-based layered oxides with a P2-type layered framework have been considered as one of the most promising cathode materials for SIBs. However, they suffer from the undesired P2-O2 phase transition, which leads to rapid capacity decay and limited reversible capacities. Herein, we show that this problem can be significantly mitigated by substituting some of the nickel ions with magnesium to obtain Na0.67Mn0.67Ni0.33− xMgxO2 (0≤ x≤0.33). Both the reversible capacity and the capacity retention of the P2-type cathode material were remarkably improved as the P2-O2 phase transition was thus suppressed during cycling. This strategy might also be applicable to the modulation of the physical and chemical properties of layered oxides and provides new insight into the rational design of high-capacity and highly stable cathode materials for SIBs. We first report that lipase from porcine pancreas catalyzed Robinson annulation in the organic media to synthesize the Wieland-Miescher ketone. Nickel sulfides nano/microcrystallines were synthesized through a facile and efficient single-source method by thermal decomposition the precursor of tetrakis thiourea nickel chloride crystals (TTNC) complex in a Teflon-lined autoclave. It is found that the reaction temperature, reaction time and relative reaction pressure have important influence on morphology of the final products and pure Ni 3 S 4 can be transformed to NiS 2 by increasing the thermal decomposition temperature from 200 °C to 250 °C under sealed conditions. A concise synthesis of spiroindolenines from 2-substituted (Me, Et) indoles and 2-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)benzaldehydes has been developed via a [1,5]-hydride shift/cyclization sequence. This method features a wide substrate scope and an operationally simple procedure, affording the spiroindolenines in good to excellent yields and moderate diastereoselectivity (3.5/1 dr). Abstract: Mg(BH4)2·2NH3 is a relatively new compound considered for hydrogen storage. The fundamental properties of the compound were comprehensively studied using first-principles calculations, such as crystal structure and electronic structure, reaction Gibbs free energy and possible reaction pathway. The calculated crystal structure is in good agreement with the experimental and other theoretical results. Results from electronic density of states (DOS) and electron localization function (ELF) show the covalent characteristics of the N–H and the B–H bonds, and the weak ionic interactions between the Mg atom and the NH3 ligands or the (BH4)− ligands. The reaction Gibbs free energies of several possible decomposition reactions were calculated between 0 and 700 K. All the reactions are exothermic. Abstract: A series of four m-ferrocenylbenzoate [m-ferrocenylbenzoate = Na(m-OOCH4C6Fc), Fc = (η 5-C5H5)Fe(η 5-C5H4)] copper(II) complexes Cu2(μ 2-OOCH4C6Fc)4(CH3OH)2 (1), Cu(η 2-OOCH4C6Fc)2(2,2′-bpy) (2), Cu(η 2-OOCH4C6Fc)2(1,10-phen) (3) and [Cu(η 2-OOCH4C6Fc)2(4,4′-bpy)] n (4) (bpy = bipyridine, 1,10-phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) have been synthesized by reactions of Cu(CH3COO)2·H2O with Na(m-OOCH4C6Fc) and three types of N-donor ligands, respectively. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that 1 shows a dimeric structure with a Cu⋯Cu distance of 2.5872(16) Å. 2 and 3 exhibit a mononuclear structure. The adjacent mononuclear molecules are packed into a one-dimensional (1D) chain through the π–π interactions between the bpy rings in 2 or phen rings in 3. 4 displays a 1D zigzag chain structure. In 1, the m-OOCH4C6Fc anion adopts the bidentate-bridging coordination mode, whereas it adopts the bidentate-chelating coordination mode in 2–4. The blocking reactions of phenyl isocyanate with 1-naphthol and 2-naphthol were investigated with in situ FT-IR. The reaction kinetics was studied and the reaction rates were described by a second-order equation. It was found that there was a remarkable induction period in the reaction. The induction period shortened with increase of temperature, and the induction period of 1-naphthol was obviously longer than that of 2-naphthol. Activation energies and Eyring parameters were also determined for the blocking reaction with 1-naphthol (Ea = 55.3 kJ · mol-1, ΔH = 56.9 kJ · mol-1, ΔS = -120.8 J · mol-1 · K-1) and 2-naphthol (Ea = 74.2 kJ · mol-1, ΔH = 69.8 kJ · mol-1, ΔS = -79.8 J · mol-1 · K-1), respectively. Unique quadridentate salen type triple-decker dinuclear sandwich ytterbium complex [Yb2L3(CH3OH)]·0.5H2O (1) and triple-decker trinuclear sandwich ytterbium complex [Yb3L3(CH3OH)2(NO3)3]·CH3OH·5H2O (2) are isolated from the reactions of Yb(OAc)3·4H2O and Yb(NO3)3·6H2O with H2L, respectively (H2L = N,N′-bis(salicylidene)-1,2-(phenylene-diamine)). A novel and convenient Pd(0)-catalyzed carboannulation with propargylic compounds for the synthesis of highly substituted aromatic amine derivatives in a one-pot operation was developed. A poly( p-toluene sulfonic acid)-modified glassy carbon electrode showed an excellent electrocatalytic effect on the oxidation of dopamine (DA) and ascorbic acid (AA). Favorable electrostatic interaction between the negatively charged P- pTSA film and cationic species of DA or anionic species of AA may mainly contribute to the response of DA and AA at this electrode. In differential pulse votammetric (DPV) measurements, the poly( p-toluene sulfonic acid) film modified electrode can separate the DA and AA oxidation potentials by about 192 mV and can be used to the selective determination of dopamine in the presence of high concentration of ascorbic acid (e.g., 0.5 mmol L−1) and the detection limit was 6.0 × 10−7 mol L−1. A novel and convenient route for the preparation of chiral tricyclic iminolactones 9 and 10 from camphorquinone has been developed. Alkylation of iminolactones 9 and 10 provided iminolactones 16 and 17 in high yields which were, in turn, alkylated again to afford the α,α-disubstituted products in good yields (70–90%) and excellent diastereoselectivities (>98%). Hydrolysis of the alkylated iminolactones furnished the desired α,α-disubstituted α-amino acids in good yields and high enantiomeric excesses with good recovery yields of the chiral auxiliary 12 and 13. Abstract: Metallocene complexes of type MCH(TMS)2 (Cp′=η5-Me5C5, M=Y, Sm), Me2SiSmCH(TMS)2 (Cp″=η5-Me4C5) catalyze rapid and clean hydrosilylation of CH2 ph name="sbnd" />SiMe2R (R=Me, Ph, NMe2, O t Bu) with PhSiH3. The distribution of 1,2-addition product versus 2,1-addition product was found to be sensitive to both catalysts and substrates. Generation of 2,1-addition product can best be achieved by use of more sterically accessible catalysts as well as substrates containing tethering functional groups. Porous Co 3 O 4 microflowers were successfully synthesized by calcinations of novel flower-like metal-organic framework microcrystals. A supercapacitor was conducted based on this porous Co 3 O 4 microflowers as the electrode material, which shows that the porous Co 3 O 4 electrode exhibit a specific capacitance of 240.2 F g −1 at the current density of 0.625 A g −1 and remains more than 96.3% after 2000 cycles. Monitoring chemical reactions using tools of analytical chemistry is crucial for understanding the mechanisms of these reactions. In this study, leaf-like poly(p-phenylenediamine) (PpPD) microparticles were prepared with precisely tailored properties. The dark field microscopy protocol proved to be a powerful tool for studying the erosion of microparticles induced by Co2+. Such a protocol can have the benefit of improving the understanding of reaction mechanisms and can help expand the applications of dark field microscopy. ABSTRACT Cationic polymerizations of isobutylene (IB) with H2O/FeCl3/isopropanol ( iPrOH) initiating system were conducted in nonpolar hydrocarbon media, such as n-hexane or mixed C4 fractions at −40 to 20 °C. This cationic polymerization is a chain-transfer dominated process via highly selective β-proton elimination from CH3 in the growing chain ends, leading to formation of highly reactive polyisobutylenes (HRPIBs) with large contents (> 90 mol %) of exo-olefin end groups (structure A). The content of structure A remained nearly constant at about 97 mol % during polymerization and isomerization via carbenium ion rearrangement could be suppressed in nonpolar media. First-order kinetics with respect to monomer concentration was measured for selective cationic polymerization of IB in the mixed C4 fraction feed at −30 °C and the apparent rate constant for propagation was 0.028 min−1. High polymerization temperature ( Tp) or [FeCl3] accelerate β-proton elimination or isomerizations and simultaneously decrease selectivity of β-proton abstraction from CH3. Molecular weight decreased and molecular weight distribution (MWD) became narrow with increasing Tp or [FeCl3]. Abstract: The total syntheses of norartocarpin and artocarpin, two biologically interesting natural flavonoids with two regioisomeric isoprenyl side chains, were achieved for the first time via a linear reaction sequence of 9 and 12 steps with the overall yields of 14% and 3.5%, respectively, starting from commercially available 1,3,5-trimethoxybenzene. Abstract: The reaction of tricyanometallate precursor, (Bu4N)[(Tp*)Fe(CN)3] (Tp*=hydrotris(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-l-yl)borate) with Co(ClO4)2·6H2O in the presence of the bidentate dpa (dpa=2,2′-dipyridyl amine) ligand affords one novel cyano-bridged heterobimetallic {Fe2Co2} molecular square, [FeIII(Tp*)(CN)3]2[CoII(dpa)2]2•2ClO4•4H2O•4CH3OH (1). The molecular structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In compound 1, FeIII ion is coordinated by three cyanide carbon atoms and three nitrogen atoms of Tp* anions. Whereas, the CoII ion is surrounded by two cyanide nitrogen atoms and four nitrogen atoms from two bidentate dpa ligands. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements showed that complex 1 exhibited one quasi-reversible waves (0.1V vs SCE) in the reduction process, and irreversible waves in the oxidation process. Magnetic measurements indicate that complex 1 exhibits a strong intramolecular ferromagnetic interaction between the low-spin FeIII(S=1/2) and high-spin CoII(S=3/2) ions. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: A novel organocatalytic asymmetric multicomponent cascade reaction for the synthesis of valuable tetrahydropyridines has been developed. The merit of this cascade process is highlighted by its high efficiency of producing five new bonds and an all-carbon quaternary stereocenter in one operation, which otherwise is a big challenge to access by traditional strategies. Highly enantioselective chiral bifunctional thiourea catalyzed asymmetric tandem reactions for synthesis of substituted tetrahydroquinolines are described. Abstract: The reaction of a tetradentate ligand, 2,2′-(pyridin-2-ylmethylazanediyl)diethanethiol (H2L), with dodecacarbonyltriiron in dry toluene leads to the formations of a hexacarbonyl complex, [Fe2(EDT)(CO)6] (EDT=ethylenedithiolate), 1a, which is fully characterised. The formation of this complex is via intramolecular C–S/N bonds formation/cleavage promoted by iron-sulfur coordination chemistry. The article describes the pilot-scale chemical procedure in preparing 5,5'-methylene- bis(benzotriazole) out of tetraaminodiphenylmethane and methyl nitrite chemical compounds. It notes that the procedure is, aside from that it is easy to perform, efficient and environmentally friendly. The tetraaminodiphenylmethane is prepared through reduction of 3,3'-dinitro-4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane from bis(2-nitroanilino)methane. The procedure of the synthesis is provided, along with the results using the said method.

The article focuses on a pilot scale method for the synthesis of 2-fluoro-4-bromobiphenyl. It states that the synthesis involves 86.3g of sodium nitrite, 70mL methanol and 125 mL water which were placed in a 500 mL round-bottomed flask. It mentions that the said solution resulted to a colorless methyl nitrite which was passed through a water trap for acid removal. It adds that the methyl nitrite was placed in a tube, where a stirred mixture of 224.0g of 2-fluoro-4-bromoaniline and 15.0g copper chloride (CuCl) and 2 L benzene was added. Moreover, the mixture was stirred for another 20 minutes with an increased temperature of 50°C upon the completion of the reaction mixture of methyl nitrite with the stirred mixture in the tube.

Two new zinc phosphonates [Zn(HL 1 ) 2 ·H 2 O] ( 1 ), [Zn(HL 2 )] ( 2 ) [H 2 L 1  = C 6 H 4 (CN)-C 6 H 4 -CH 2 -PO(OH) 2 , H 3 L 2  = C 6 H 4 (COOH)-C 6 H 4 -CH 2 -PO(OH) 2 ] have been prepared via hydrothermal reaction. Their structures were first detected by single crystal X-ray diffraction and further characterized by elemental analysis, IR, TGA and X-ray single crystal/powder diffraction. The different functional groups of H 2 L 1 and H 3 L 2 involved in the coordination results in the structural diversity of complexes 1 and 2 . Luminescent and metal cations identifying properties of two complexes have also been explored. Complex 1 demonstrated much higher selectivity and sensitivity toward Fe 3+ ion than complex 2 . A series of four neodymium coordination polymers (CPs), namely, {[Nd 2 L 3 (CH 3 OH) 3 (H 2 O) 4 ]} n (1) , {[Nd 2 L 3 (CH 3 OH) 4 (H 2 O) 3 ]·4CH 3 OH·H 2 O} n (2) , {[Nd 2 L 3 (CH 3 OH) 4 (H 2 O) 3 ]·4CH 3 OH·H 2 O} n (3) and [NdL' 3 (CH 3 OH) 3 ] n (4) have been isolated by facile reactions of ligands (H 2 L = L-di-2-thenoyltartaric acid and H 2 L' = L-di- p -toluoyl-tartaric acid) with NdCl 3 ·6H 2 O at ambient temperature depending on the reaction conditions. X-ray crystallographic analysis reveals that all complexes 1–4 feature one-dimensional (1D) network structure in which the Nd 3+ ions are bridged by carboxylate groups of ligands by five types of coordinated modes. Complexes 1 – 3 feature one-dimensional (1D) ladder-like chain structure and complex 4 features one-dimensional (1D) linear structure owing tothe ligands coordination modes. NIR luminescence analysis reveal that all complexes 1 – 4 exhibit three characteristic bands around 890, 1054 and 1326 nm of Nd 3+ ion in which complex 3 shows the longest lifetime and highest quantum yield. Gold (Au) nanocatalysis has spurred much interest in chemical reactions under mild conditions. Here we report on the superior reactivity of silica hosting Au (Au@SiO 2 ) nanocatalyst for direct synthesis of H 2 O 2 in a semi-batch reactor under ambient conditions. The nanocatalyst with rattle nano-architecture is composed of a uniformly sized Au core, a silica sphere, and silica shell. Direct synthesis of H 2 O 2 from H 2 and O 2 is an ideal but challenging process for replacing the commercial route of anthraquinone process. The unique rattle structure facilitates the formation of hydroperoxo species on total surface area of the sample was calculated based H 2 O 2 formation. The turnover frequency (TOF) of H 2 O 2 formation was 2–3 orders of magnitude higher than that of other Au catalysts. A straightforward method for the synthesis of highly functionalized vinylarenes through palladium-catalyzed, norbornene-mediated CH activation/carbene migratory insertion is described. Extension to a one-pot procedure is also developed. Furthermore, this method can also be used to generate polysubstituted bicyclic molecules. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions to give the products in satisfactory yields using readily available starting materials. This is a Catellani-Lautens reaction that incorporates different types of coupling partners. Abstract: The reaction of tricyanometallate precursor, (Bu4N)[(pzTp)Fe(CN)3] (pzTp=tetrakis(pyrazolyl)borate) with Cu(ClO4)2·6H2O in the presence of the monodentate 4-styrylpyridine ligand afford one novel one-dimensional (1D) heterobimetallic cyano-bridged chain, [Fe(pzTp)(CN)3]2Cu(4-styrylpyridine)2•2H2O•4CH3OH (1). The molecular structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In compound 1, the FeIII ion is coordinated by three cyanide carbon atoms and three nitrogen atoms of pzTp anions. Whereas, the CuII ion is surrounded by four cyanide nitrogen atoms and two nitrogen atoms from two monodentate 4-styrylpyridine ligands. Magnetic measurements indicate that compound 1 exhibits intrachain ferromagnetic coupling and single-chain magnets behavior. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Eight coordination polymers associated with the organicligand2,2′-bipyridyl-4,4′-dicarboxylic acid (abbreviated H2BPDC): {[Zn(BPDC)(H2O)3]·3H2O}n(1), [Zn(BPDC)(H2O)2]n(2), [Co(BPDC)(H2O)3]n(3), [Co(BPDC)(H2O)2]n(3a), [Cu(BPDC)(H2O)]n(4), {[Cu(BPDC)(H2O)2]·2H2O}n(4a), [Mn(BPDC)(H2O)2]n(5), and {[Mn(BPDC)]·2H2O}n(5a) were prepared byhydrothermal methods and structurally characterized. The structureanalyses reveal that 1exhibits a one-dimension chain,and 2, 3a, 5, and 5aare complicated 3D structures. 2displays a 2-foldinterpenetrating chiral 3D framework with the rare (12,3) topologyand 5is a chiral 3D framework. 4and 4aare two-dimensional networks, and 3is a chiral1D chain. The structural contrasts between 1and 2, 3and 3a, 4and 4a, and 5and 5adisplay the transformationsfrom low to high dimensional motif, and/or from achiral to chiralstructures. A series of 3-cyano-6,7-diarylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidines have been synthesized directly from the 5-amino-4-cyano-1H-pyrazole and isoflavones. The target compound was obtained by a condensation reaction. Structures of compounds were demonstrated by Fourier transform infrared, NMR, and elemental analysis. A bifunctional squaramide catalyzed sulfa-Michael/aldol cascade reaction between 1,4-dithiane-2,5-diol and chalcones with a low catalyst loading has been developed. Trisubstituted tetrahydrothiophenes with three contiguous stereogenic centers are obtained in a highly stereocontrolled manner. Abstract: An efficient and green one-pot synthesis route for tetrahydrochromene derivatives was developed. Lipase from Porcine pancreas (PPL) shows excellent catalytic activity and exerts good adaptability to different substrates in the reaction. All the reactions go smoothly and provide tetrahydrochromene derivatives with isolate yield up to 97% under room temperature. This lipase-catalyzed multistep conversion method has provided a new strategy to synthesize chromene derivatives and expanded the application of enzyme in organic synthesis. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The authors investigated the surface passivation mechanisms of H-terminated Ge(100)(2×1) by atomic layer deposition of Al2O3, AlN through first-principles calculation method. The formation of initial Al2O3 and AlN passivation layer on Ge surface is investigated at atomic scale and the corresponding reaction pathways for both the reaction are also presented. The reaction barrier heights of H2O and NH3 half reaction are 0.53eV/mol and 0.51eV/mol higher than that of Al(CH3)3 half reaction, respectively which indicates that the overall passivation processes of the both reactions are limited by the second half reaction. Moreover, the chemisorption state and product state of the NH3 half reaction are found to be in the same energy level, and it is possible that the second half reaction of AlN will be trapped in a chemisorption state. Abstract: A copper-catalyzed cross-coupling of heterocyclic thiols with aryl iodides is reported. The reaction was carried out in the presence of CuI (5 mol %), 1,10-phenanthroline (10 mol %) and K2CO3 (1.3 equiv) in DMF at 120 °C. We found that the trypsin from hog pancreas displayed high activity to promote three-component Mannich reaction of aromatic aldehydes, aromatic amines, and acetone with moderate-to-excellent yields. A very simple, efficient, and regiospecific protocol for aminobromination of a wide scope of β-nitrostyrene derivatives with N-bromoacetamide (NBA) as nitrogen! bromine sources has been developed by using K3PO4 as catalyst. Abstract: The strained silicon-bridged [1]ferrocenophane Fe(η-C5H4)2SiBuMe was prepared via a facile chloride substitution reaction at the bridging atom of a readily available SiMeCl-bridged [1]ferrocenophane precursor. Thermal ring-opening polymerization of Fe(η-C5H4)2SiBuMe and Fe(η-C5H4)2SiMe2 afforded polyferrocenyldimethylsilane (PFDMS) and polyferrocenylbutylmethylsilane (PFBMS), respectively. Polyferrocenylsilane nanofibers were fabricated by electrospinning polymer solutions in 90wt% tetrahydrofuran and 10wt% N,N-dimethylformamide at room temperature. The effect of processing parameters such as concentration of polyferrocenylsilanes solution, applied voltage, and working distance on the diameter and morphology of resulting nanofibers were investigated. Electron diffraction patterns from polymer nanofibers revealed that PFS fibers exhibit different orientation owing to variance of the side groups at silicon. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
