The article discusses a study which aimed to develop and prove a technique for determining the degradation of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) for vascular prostheses. The study used nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (H-NMR) to provide a comprehensive view of chemical macromolecular structures. Significant chemical differences between the virgin prostheses and the explants collected after aging have been shown by the examination of a series of PET vascular prostheses.
