The Briggs-Rauscher reaction is a popular demonstration to illustrate chemical oscillations in laboratories, classrooms, and public seminars because of its simplicity and visual appeal. Here, we adapt the Briggs-Rauscher reaction to present reaction-diffusion-convection patterns in the undergraduate general or physical chemistry laboratory. By maintaining the ratio between malonic acid and potassium iodate concentrations as 0.2 in an uncovered Petri dish, sequential patterns (transient dendritic patterns and rotating dendritic patterns) can be observed, which are induced by the interaction of reaction, diffusion, and convection. This beautiful demonstration captures students' attention and inspires reflection and discussion about similar phenomena in nature as well as the wealth of behaviors in systems far from equilibrium.

Abstract Developing low‐cost and safe batteries with high energy density is promising for large‐scale energy storage applications. Currently, aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs) using Zn metal as the anode have attracted tremendous research attention as the next generation of energy storage devices due to their advantages of high energy density, environmental friendliness, and natural Zn abundance. The utilization of synchrotron X‐ray analytical techniques for in situ/ex situ characterizations offers a comprehensive understanding of the atomic local structure, crystalline structure, chemical states, coordination environment, interface properties, morphologies, and other physicochemical properties of materials on a variety of temporal and length scales, providing valuable insights into the fundamental mechanisms of AZIBs. This review highlights the recent advances and accomplishments of various synchrotron X‐ray techniques, which have been employed to investigate different components of AZIBs and show great promise for battery research and development.

This paper presents an all-weather drivable area detection method based on deep learning, addressing the challenges of recognizing unstructured roads and achieving clear environmental perception under adverse weather conditions in current autonomous driving systems. The method enhances the Lite-Mobilenetv2 feature extraction module and integrates a pyramid pooling module with an attention mechanism. Moreover, it introduces a defogging preprocessing module suitable for real-time detection, which transforms foggy images into clear ones for accurate drivable area detection. The experiments adopt a transfer learning-based training approach, training an all-road-condition semantic segmentation model on four datasets that include both structured and unstructured roads, with and without fog. This strategy reduces computational load and enhances detection accuracy. Experimental results demonstrate a 3.84% efficiency improvement compared to existing algorithms.

Ultrashort light pulses have strong research and application values, while nonlinear inverse Thomson scattering has been considered as a unique source of zepto-yoctosecond pulses. Here, the mechanism of nonlinear inverse Thomson scattering of a high-energy electron colliding with a tightly focused intense laser pulse is investigated through numerical simulation. The time-compression effect was proposed to explain the origin of ultrashort pulses and the nonlinear phenomenon of electron radiation in the time–space joint distribution. It is found that the time scale of electron radiation is orders of magnitude shorter than that of electron motion, and the increases in laser intensity and electron initial energy will result in stronger and shorter pulses. Yoctosecond pulses can be generated by a laser pulse with an intensity of 1.384×1020 W/cm2 and an electron with an initial energy of 51.1 MeV. These results provide theoretical and numerical basis for generating shorter light pulses.

In this paper, two parameters of the applied magnetic field—magnetic field strength and pulse length—are modified, the spatial properties of electron trajectories and radiation are studied, and conclusions are drawn. Under the premise that the radius of the laser pulse waist b0=4λ0, and that the peak amplitude a0=5 corresponds to the peak laser intensity IL=3.45×1019 W/cm2 of the electrons, obtaining high-energy and highly collimated X-rays can be realized by increasing the pulse length up to 6λ0 and increasing the magnitude of the applied magnetic field, or by continuously increasing the pulse length and applying a smaller magnetic field.

This study aims to develop a comprehensive strategy that accurately screens and quantifies quality markers (Q-markers) by combining LC-MS metabolomics with fingerprint-effect relationships, chemometrics, and QAMS methods for the quality control in traditional Chinese medicine compound preparations (CMP). First, the chemical compositions in Jinlian Qingre granules (JQG) were analyzed and identified using ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS). Next, the HPLC fingerprint of JQG was established, and chemometrics were employed to evaluate JQG quality. Then, potential anti-inflammatory bioactive constituents were screened using a fingerprinting-effect relationship model utilizing partial least squares regression (PLSR) and a back propagation neural network optimized using a genetic algorithm (GA-BPNN). On this basis, Q-markers of JQG were determined and analyzed using quantitative analysis of multi-components by the single marker (QAMS) employing three components as reference substances (RS). 24 chemical constituents in JQG were characterized using UHPLC-HRMS. Twenty-four common peaks were assigned to the fingerprint. Six compounds, mangiferin, 2′'-O-beta-L-galactopyranosylorientin, orientin, veratric acid, vitexin, and harpagoside, identified from the common peaks associated with anti-inflammatory efficacy, could be used as Q-markers of JQG. The content determination results displayed no significant difference in the content of Q-markers in 20 batches of JQG samples measured using the external standard method and QAMS. Q-markers could be efficiently screened and determined by integrating multidisciplinary technologies. This comprehensive strategy could be beneficial for the thorough evaluation of CMP.

Chronic Hepatitis B virus (CHB) infection is a global health challenge, causing damage ranging from hepatitis to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. In our study, single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) analysis was performed in livers from mice models with chronic inflammation induced by CHB infection and we found that endothelial cells (ECs) exhibited the largest number of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) among all ten cell types. NF-κB signaling was activated in ECs to induce cell dysfunction and subsequent hepatic inflammation, which might be mediated by the interaction of macrophage-derived and cholangiocyte-derived VISFATIN/Nampt signaling. Moreover, we divided ECs into three subclusters, including periportal ECs (EC_Z1), midzonal ECs (EC_Z2), and pericentral ECs (EC_Z3) according to hepatic zonation. Functional analysis suggested that pericentral ECs and midzonal ECs, instead of periportal ECs, were more vulnerable to HBV infection, as the VISFATIN/Nampt- NF-κB axis was mainly altered in these two subpopulations. Interestingly, pericentral ECs showed increasing communication with macrophages and cholangiocytes via the Nampt-Insr and Nampt-Itga5/Itgb1 axis upon CHB infection, which contribute to angiogenesis and vascular capillarization. Additionally, ECs, especially pericentral ECs, showed a close connection with nature killer (NK) cells and T cells via the Cxcl6-Cxcr6 axis, which is involved in shaping the microenvironment in CHB mice livers. Thus, our study described the heterogeneity and functional alterations of three subclusters in ECs. We revealed the potential role of VISFATIN/Nampt signaling in modulating ECs characteristics and related hepatic inflammation, and EC-derived chemokine Cxcl16 in shaping NK and T cell recruitment, providing key insights into the multifunctionality of ECs in CHB-associated pathologies.

In the rosid species Arabidopsis thaliana, the AP2-type AP2 transcription factor (TF) is required for specifying the sepals and petals identities and confers a major A-function to antagonize the C-function in the outer floral whorls. In the asterid species Petunia, the AP2-type ROB TFs are required for perianth and pistil development, as well as repressing the B-function together with TOE-type TF BEN. In Long-homostyle (LH) Fagopyrum esculentum, VIGS-silencing showed that FaesAP2 is mainly involved in controlling filament and style length, but FaesTOE is mainly involved in regulating filament length and pollen grain development. Both FaesAP2 (AP2-type) and FaesTOE (TOE-type) are redundantly involved in style and/or filament length determination instead of perianth development. However, neither FaesAP2 nor FaesTOE could directly repress the B and/or C class genes in common buckwheat. Moreover, the FaesAP1_2 silenced flower showed tepal numbers, and filament length decreased obviously. Interestingly, yeast one-hybrid (Y1H) and dual-luciferase reporter (DR) further suggested that FaesTOE directly up-regulates FaesAP1_2 to be involved in filament length determination in LH common buckwheat. Moreover, the knockdown of FaesTOE expression could result in expression down-regulation of the directly target FaesAP1_2 in the FaesTOE-silenced LH plants. Our findings uncover a stamen development pathway in common buckwheat and offer deeper insight into the functional evolution of AP2 orthologs in the early-diverging core eudicots.

Sophora alopecuroides has important uses in medicine, wind breaking, and sand fixation. The CHY-zinc-finger and RING-finger (CHYR) proteins are crucial for plant growth, development, and environmental adaptation; however, genetic data regarding the CHYR family remain scarce. We aimed to investigate the CHYR gene family in S. alopecuroides and its response to abiotic stress, and identified 18 new SaCHYR genes from S. alopecuroides whole-genome data, categorized into 3 subclasses through a phylogenetic analysis. Gene structure, protein domains, and conserved motifs analyses revealed an exon–intron structure and conserved domain similarities. A chromosome localization analysis showed distribution across 12 chromosomes. A promoter analysis revealed abiotic stress-, light-, and hormone-responsive elements. An RNA-sequencing expression pattern analysis revealed positive responses of SaCHYR genes to salt, alkali, and drought stress. SaCHYR4 overexpression considerably enhanced alkali and drought tolerance in Arabidopsis thaliana. These findings shed light on SaCHYR’s function and the resistance mechanisms of S. alopecuroides, presenting new genetic resources for crop resistance breeding.

Among various non-covalent interactions, selenium-centered chalcogen bonds (SeChBs) have garnered considerable attention in recent years as a result of their important contributions to crystal engineering, organocatalysis, molecular recognition, materials science, and biological systems. Herein, we systematically investigated π–hole-type Se∙∙∙O/S ChBs in the binary complexes of SeO2 with a series of O-/S-containing Lewis bases by means of high-level ab initio computations. The results demonstrate that there exists an attractive interaction between the Se atom of SeO2 and the O/S atom of Lewis bases. The interaction energies computed at the MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ level range from −4.68 kcal/mol to −10.83 kcal/mol for the Se∙∙∙O chalcogen-bonded complexes and vary between −3.53 kcal/mol and −13.77 kcal/mol for the Se∙∙∙S chalcogen-bonded complexes. The Se∙∙∙O/S ChBs exhibit a relatively short binding distance in comparison to the sum of the van der Waals radii of two chalcogen atoms. The Se∙∙∙O/S ChBs in all of the studied complexes show significant strength and a closed-shell nature, with a partially covalent character in most cases. Furthermore, the strength of these Se∙∙∙O/S ChBs generally surpasses that of the C/O–H∙∙∙O hydrogen bonds within the same complex. It should be noted that additional C/O–H∙∙∙O interactions have a large effect on the geometric structures and strength of Se∙∙∙O/S ChBs. Two subunits are connected together mainly via the orbital interaction between the lone pair of O/S atoms in the Lewis bases and the BD*(OSe) anti-bonding orbital of SeO2, except for the SeO2∙∙∙HCSOH complex. The electrostatic component emerges as the largest attractive contributor for stabilizing the examined complexes, with significant contributions from induction and dispersion components as well.

The Manipulated Genic Male Sterile Maintainer (MGM) system, a next-generation hybrid seed technology, enables efficient production of sortable seeds from genic male sterile (GMS) lines. However, implementing robust MGM systems in commercial maize inbred lines requires stable transformation, a genotype-specific and laborious process. This study aimed to integrate MGM technology into the commercial maize inbred line Z372, developing both GMS and MGM lines. We utilized the MGM line ZC01-3A-7, which contains the MS26ΔE5 editor T-DNA and MGM T-DNA, previously established in the highly transformable ZC01 recipient plants. Through a combination of crossing and backcrossing with Z372, we targeted the fertility gene Ms26 within the Z372 genome for mutation using the in vivo CRISPR/Cas9 activity within the MS26ΔE5 editor T-DNA construct. This approach facilitated precise editing of the Ms26 locus, minimizing linkage drag associated with the Ms26 mutation. Whole-genome SNP analysis achieved a 98.74% recovery rate for GMS and 96.32% for MGM in the BC2F2 generation. Importantly, the Z372-GMS line with the ms26ΔE5 mutation is non-transgenic, avoiding linkage drag and demonstrating production readiness. This study represents a significant advancement in maize breeding, enabling the rapid generation of GMS and MGM lines for efficient hybrid seed production.

During shield construction in underground spaces, synchronous grouting slurry is poured between the surrounding rock and tunnel lining to ensure stability. For synchronous grouting slurries, few studies have investigated the relationship between the rheological parameters and physical properties, grout-segregation mechanism, and anti-segregation performance. Therefore, we explored the relationships between the slurry rheological parameters, segregation rate, and bleeding rate. Cement, sand, fly ash, and bentonite were used to prepare the slurry, and the effects of different polycarboxylate water-reducing agents and dispersible latex powder dosages were studied. The rheological parameters of 16 groups of uniformly designed slurries were tested, and the data were fit using the Herschel–Bulkley model. The optimal mix ratio lowered the slurry segregation rate, and its rheological behaviour was consistent with the Herschel–Bulkley fluid characteristics. High-yield-shear-stress synchronous grouting slurries with high and low viscosity coefficients were less likely to bleed and segregate, respectively. The optimised slurry fluidity, 3 h bleeding rate, 24 h bleeding rate, segregation rate, coagulation time, and 28 days compressive strength were 257.5 mm, 0.71%, 0.36%, 3.1%, 6.7 h, and 2.61 MPa, respectively, which meet the requirements of a synchronous grouting slurry of shield tunnels for sufficiently preventing soil disturbance and deformation in areas surrounding underground construction sites.

Rotary kiln has been widely used in hazardous waste treatment because of its strong adaptability to raw materials, high productivity, and simple processing technology. However, the formation of deposits reduces its performance period and profitability. This study characterized the deposit mineralogy and thermodynamically and experimentally investigated its formation mechanism. The results show that the main phases of the deposit are magnetite, monolithic iron, olivine, and yellow feldspar. They indicate that the deposit formation process was accompanied by the participation of alkaline and iron oxides. The intermediate product Ca2SiO4 can promote the generation of low melting point phases, such as CaFeSiO4 and Ca2Al2SiO7, which are the main phases of deposit materials. Additionally, the reduction intermediate product FeO facilitated the generation of a liquid ferrous mixture (Fe3O4-FeO and Fe3O4-FeO-Fe mixture), which in turn further promoted the growth of the initial deposit phase. The solid deposit formed and attached to the kiln inner wall, along with a decrease in temperature. These results are expected to provide an idea or approach for fundamentally solving the problem of deposits in the rotary kiln.

Compound parabolic concentrator (CPC) photocatalytic reactors are commonly used for photocatalytic water splitting in hydrogen production. This study aimed to gain a better understanding of the physical processes in CPC photocatalytic reactors and provide theoretical support for their design, optimization, and operation. The analysis involved the ray tracing approach, Euler–Euler two-fluid model, and discrete ordinates method (DOM) to study solar radiation transfer and particle flow in the reactor. The distribution of solar radiation on the receiving tube’s surface after CPC concentration was obtained by conducting the ray tracing approach. This solar radiation distribution was then coupled into the Euler–Euler two-fluid model to solve for the natural convection flow field, the temperature field, and particle phase volume fraction distribution inside the receiving tube over a period of 120 s. Lastly, the discrete ordinates method (DOM) was used to analyze the transfer of radiation inside the receiving tube at different times, obtaining the distribution of local volume radiative power absorption (LVRPA) and the total radiative power absorption (TRPA) inside the tube. The results showed that the TRPA reached its maximum at 120 s, accounting for 66.61% of the incident solar UV radiation. According to the above results, it could be suggested that adopting an intermittent operation mode in CPC photocatalytic reactors is reasonable and efficient.

Abstract Water and its dissociated species at the solid‒liquid interface play critical roles in catalytic science; e.g., functions of oxygen species from water dissociation are gradually being recognized. Herein, the relationship between oxide identity (PtOHads, PtOads, and PtO2) and electrocatalytic activity of platinum for ethanol electrooxidation was obtained in perchlorate acidic solution over a wide potential range with an upper potential of 1.5 V (reversible hydrogen electrode, RHE). PtOHads and α-PtO2, rather than PtOads, act as catalytic centers promoting ethanol electrooxidation. This relationship was corroborated on Pt(111), Pt(110), and Pt(100) electrodes, respectively. A reaction mechanism of ethanol electrooxidation was developed with DFT calculations, in which platinum oxides-mediated dehydrogenation and hydrated reaction intermediate, geminal diol, can perfectly explain experimental results, including pH dependence of product selectivity and more active α-PtO2 than PtOHads. This work can be generalized to the oxidation of other substances on other metal/alloy electrodes in energy conversion and electrochemical syntheses.

The fruit of Acanthopanax senticosus (Rupr. and Maxim.) has been newly developed for the treatment of blood deficiency syndrome clinically, but the effective constituents are still unclear, restricting its quality control and the new medicinal development based on it. This study elucidated the efficacy of A. senticosus fruit (ASF) for treating blood deficiency syndrome and accurately characterize the constituents. Chinmedomics strategy was used to identify the metabolic biomarkers of the model and the overall effect of ASF was evaluated based on the biomarker when it showed intervention effects for blood deficiency syndrome. ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) was used to analyze the components in the blood absorbed from A. senticosus fruit, and the components highly relevant to the biomarker are regarded as potential effective constituents for blood deficiency syndrome. Twenty-two of the 28 urine metabolites of blood deficiency syndrome were significantly regulated by A. senticosus fruit, 97 compounds included 20 prototype components, and 77 metabolites were found in vivo under the acting condition. The highly relevant constituents were isofraxidin, eleutheroside B, eleutheroside B1, eleutheroside E, and caffeic acid, which might be the effective constituents of A. senticosus fruit. It is a promising new medicinal resource that can be used for treating blood deficiency syndrome.

Predicting photovoltaic (PV) power generation is a crucial task in the field of clean energy. Achieving high-accuracy PV power prediction requires addressing two challenges in current deep learning methods: (1) In photovoltaic power generation prediction, traditional deep learning methods often generate predictions for long sequences one by one, significantly impacting the efficiency of model predictions. As the scale of photovoltaic power stations expands and the demand for predictions increases, this sequential prediction approach may lead to slow prediction speeds, making it difficult to meet real-time prediction requirements. (2) Feature extraction is a crucial step in photovoltaic power generation prediction. However, traditional feature extraction methods often focus solely on surface features, and fail to capture the inherent relationships between various influencing factors in photovoltaic power generation data, such as light intensity, temperature, and more. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes a mid-term PV power prediction model that combines Graph Convolutional Network (GCN) and Informer models. This fusion model leverages the multi-output capability of the Informer model to ensure the timely generation of predictions for long sequences. Additionally, it harnesses the feature extraction ability of the GCN model from nodes, utilizing graph convolutional modules to extract feature information from the ‘query’ and ‘key’ components within the attention mechanism. This approach provides more reliable feature information for mid-term PV power prediction, thereby ensuring the accuracy of long sequence predictions. Results demonstrate that the GCN–Informer model significantly reduces prediction errors while improving the precision of power generation forecasting compared to the original Informer model. Overall, this research enhances the prediction accuracy of PV power generation and contributes to advancing the field of clean energy.

The traditional method of urea production is a carbon-emitting, energy-intensive technology that contradicts the concept of carbon neutrality. Fortunately, the use of renewable energy in electrochemical synthesis has shown great potential for producing high-value nitrogen products, making electrocatalytic urea production a promising and sustainable approach. However, the low yield and Faraday efficiency, as well as the unclear mechanism of C-N bond formation, limit its large-scale industrial development. Researchers are seeking higher-performance electrocatalysts. This article discusses in detail the latest progress in the electrochemical synthesis of urea using carbon dioxide and various nitrogen sources, including catalyst design and preparation, as well as the mechanism of C-N coupling reactions. It also provides comprehensive analysis on the challenges and prospects facing urea electro-synthesis. The development of targeted and efficient new catalysts for urea synthesis is anticipated to bring about more sustainable and cost-effective production methods.

The effect of process conditions on the co-processing technology of crude oil and coal was investigated. Crude oil/coal matching performance, swelling degree, crude oil/coal slurry viscosity-temperature characteristics and process parameters were obtained via the laboratory scale and pilot scale studies. The optimum reaction temperature of the co-processing was 445~450 oC, the pressure was 19 MPa, the catalyst addition was 3 wt.%, the reaction time was 2 h, and the ratio of hydrogen to crude oil was 1500 (V/V). Furthermore, the co-processing technology including catalyst and corresponding equipment based on the slurry bed hydrogenation were developed. By using this co-processing technology, the feed ratio of crude oil and coal can be 1:1, the coal conversion rate can be over 99%, the light oil (oil and aromatics) yield was over 70%, and the end products were gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, aromatics and LPG. The product quality meets the Euro V standard, whilst aromatics accounted for 48% of the light oil. So it was proved to be feasible to co-refine crude oil and coal at a ratio of 1:1. What’s more, the slurry bed hydrogenation plant and its equipment were tested for long-term operation, and it has been proved that this co-processing technology could be deployed as large-scale industrial application.

Melatonin has been proved to be involved in testosterone synthesis, but whether melatonin participates in testosterone synthesis by regulating miRNA in Leydig cells is still unclear. The purpose of this study is to clarify the mechanism of melatonin on Leydig cells testosterone synthesis from the perspective of miRNA. Our results showed that melatonin could significantly inhibit testosterone synthesis in rooster Leydig cells. miR-7481-3p and CXCL14 were selected as the target of melatonin based on RNA-seq and miRNA sequencing. The results of dual-luciferase reporter assays showed that miR-7481-3p targeted the 3′-UTR of CXCL14. The overexpression of miR-7481-3p significantly inhibited the expression of CXCL14 and restored the inhibitory role of melatonin testosterone synthesis and the expression of StAR, CYP11A1, and 3β-HSD in rooster Leydig cells. Similarly, interference with CXCL14 could reverse the inhibitory effect of melatonin on the level of testosterone synthesis and the expression of StAR, CYP11A1, and 3β-HSD in rooster Leydig cells. The RNA-seq results showed that melatonin could activate the PI3K/AKT signal pathway. Interference with CXCL14 significantly inhibited the phosphorylation level of PI3K and AKT, and the inhibited PI3K/AKT signal pathway could reverse the inhibitory effect of CXCL14 on testosterone synthesis and the expression of StAR, CYP11A1 and 3β-HSD in rooster Leydig cells. Our results indicated that melatonin inhibits testosterone synthesis by targeting miR-7481-3p/CXCL14 and inhibiting the PI3K/AKT pathway.

Superconducting materials exhibit unique physical properties and have great scientific value and vast industrial application prospects. However, due to limitations, such as the critical temperature (TC) and critical current density (JC), the large-scale application of superconducting materials remains challenging. Chemical doping has been a commonly used method to enhance the superconductivity of B(P)SCCO. However, satisfactory enhancement results have been difficult to achieve. In this study, we introduce green-light GaN p-n junction particles as inhomogeneous phases into B(P)SCCO polycrystalline particles to form a smart meta-superconductor (SMSC) structure. Based on the electroluminescence properties of the p-n junction, the Cooper pairs were stimulated and strengthened to enhance the superconductivity of B(P)SCCO. The experimental results demonstrate that the introduction of inhomogeneous phases can indeed enhance the critical temperature TC, critical current density JC, and complete diamagnetism (Meissner effect) of B(P)SCCO superconductors. Moreover, when the particle size of the raw material of B(P)SCCO is reduced from 30 to 5 μm, the grain size of the sintered samples also decreases, and the optimal doping concentration of the inhomogeneous phases increases from 0.15 wt.% to 0.2 wt.%, further improving the superconductivity.

In recent years, the non-covalent interactions between chalcogen centers have aroused substantial research interest because of their potential applications in organocatalysis, materials science, drug design, biological systems, crystal engineering, and molecular recognition. However, studies on π-hole-type chalcogen∙∙∙chalcogen interactions are scarcely reported in the literature. Herein, the π-hole-type intermolecular chalcogen∙∙∙chalcogen interactions in the model complexes formed between XO2 (X = S, Se, Te) and CH3YCH3 (Y = O, S, Se, Te) were systematically studied by using quantum chemical computations. The model complexes are stabilized via one primary X∙∙∙Y chalcogen bond (ChB) and the secondary C−H∙∙∙O hydrogen bonds. The binding energies of the studied complexes are in the range of −21.6~−60.4 kJ/mol. The X∙∙∙Y distances are significantly smaller than the sum of the van der Waals radii of the corresponding two atoms. The X∙∙∙Y ChBs in all the studied complexes except for the SO2∙∙∙CH3OCH3 complex are strong in strength and display a partial covalent character revealed by conducting the quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM), a non-covalent interaction plot (NCIplot), and natural bond orbital (NBO) analyses. The symmetry-adapted perturbation theory (SAPT) analysis discloses that the X∙∙∙Y ChBs are primarily dominated by the electrostatic component.

The CO2 electrochemical reduction reaction (CO2RR) is one of the most promising methods to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and store energy. At the same time, the pathways of CO2 reduction reaction are diverse and the products are abundant. Converting carbon dioxide to C2+ products, a critical feedstock, requires a C–C coupling step with the transfer of more than 10 electrons per molecule and, hence, is kinetically sluggish. The production of some key adsorptions is conducive to the formation of C2+ products. In this work, we used in situ techniques to figure out the reason why hexagonal-close-packed (hcp) Co nanosheets (NSs) have high activity in CO2RR to ethanal. According to the in situ Raman spectra, the high local pH environment on the catalyst surface is favorable for CO2RR. The high pH at low potentials not only suppresses the competing hydrogen evolution reaction but also stimulates the production of COCO* intermediate. The isotopic labeling experiment in differential electrochemical mass spectrometry (DEMS) provides a possible sequence of the products. The 13CO is generated when we replace 12CO2 with 13CO2, which identifies the origin of the products. Besides, in situ electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) shows that the hcp Co at −0.4 V vs. RHE boosts the H2O dissociation and proton transfer, feeding sufficient H* for CO2 to *COOH. In the end, by analyzing the transmission electronic microscopy (TEM), we find that the Co (002) plane may be beneficial to the conversion of CO2 and the adsorption of intermediates.

Li metal has been recognized as the most promising anode materials for next-generation high-energy-density batteries, however, the inherent issues of dendrite growth and huge volume fluctuations upon Li plating/stripping normally result in fast capacity fading and safety concerns. Functionalized Cu current collectors have so far exhibited significant regulatory effects on stabilizing Li metal anodes (LMAs), and hold a great practical potential owing to their easy fabrication, low-cost and good compatibility with the existing battery technology. In this review, a comprehensive overview of Cu-based current collectors, including planar modified Cu foil, 3D architectured Cu foil and nanostructured 3D Cu substrates, for Li metal batteries is provided. Particularly, the design principles and strategies of functionalized Cu current collectors associated with their functionalities in optimizing Li plating/stripping behaviors are discussed. Finally, the critical issues where there is incomplete understanding and the future research directions of Cu current collectors in practical LMAs are also prospected. This review may shed light on the critical understanding of current collector engineering for high-energy-density Li metal batteries.

Herein, the environmental stability of MXenes aqueous solution in a wide temperature range is successfully enhanced by a mechanism of ion‐confined shielding. Combined with experiments and molecular dynamics simulation, it is found that, in an aqueous solution, a confinement shielding layer formed by the electrostatic adsorption of the introduced hydronium ion onto the electronegative surface of nanosheets, which efficiently constrains free water molecules near the nanosheet surface through hydration, and prevents nanosheets from an attack of water molecules and dissolved oxygen through its steric hindrance effect. Moreover, the hydronium ions could induce the aggregation of nanosheets and further reduce the active surface area of exposed Ti3C2Tx. Under the aforementioned synergistic effect, the storage duration allowing Ti3C2Tx aqueous solution to keep stable is extended to 100 days at 25 °C and 30 days at 60 °C, respectively. In addition, hydronium ion has the advantages of low cost, environmentally friendly, and easy recovery. It also shows an excellent protection effect at low concentration, such as 2 mol L−1. The present study provides guidance for the prolongation of life of the MXenes device working under long‐term or high‐temperature aqueous conditions and the selection of electrolytes for supercapacitors.

Tin (II) sulfide (SnS) has been regarded as an attractive anode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) owing to its high theoretical capacity. However, sulfide undergoes significant volume change during lithiation/delithiation, leading to rapid capacity degradation, which severely hinders its further practical application in lithium-ion batteries. Here, we report a simple and effective method for the synthesis of SnS@C/G composites, where SnS@C nanoparticles are strongly coupled onto the graphene oxide nanosheets through dopamine-derived carbon species. In such a designed architecture, the SnS@C/G composites show various advantages including buffering the volume expansion of Sn, suppressing the coarsening of Sn, and dissolving Li2S during the cyclic lithiation/delithiation process by graphene oxide and N-doped carbon. As a result, the SnS@C/G composite exhibits outstanding rate performance as an anode material for lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of up to 434 mAh g−1 at a current density of 5.0 A g−1 and excellent cycle stability with a capacity retention of 839 mAh g−1 at 1.0 A g−1 after 450 cycles.

Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) is an important source of plant protein, the nutritional quality of which is considerably affected by the content of the sulfur-containing amino acid, methionine (Met). To improve the quality of soybean protein and increase the Met content in seeds, soybean cystathionine γ-synthase 2 (GmCGS2), the first unique enzyme in Met biosynthesis, was overexpressed in the soybean cultivar “Jack”, producing three transgenic lines (OE3, OE4, and OE10). We detected a considerable increase in the content of free Met and other free amino acids in the developing seeds of the three transgenic lines at the 15th and 75th days after flowering (15D and 75D). In addition, transcriptome analysis showed that the expression of genes related to Met biosynthesis from the aspartate-family pathway and S-methyl Met cycle was promoted in developing green seeds of OE10. Ultimately, the accumulation of total amino acids and soluble proteins in transgenic mature seeds was promoted. Altogether, these results indicated that GmCGS2 plays an important role in Met biosynthesis, by providing a basis for improving the nutritional quality of soybean seeds.

In this paper, a novel two-dimensional direction of arrival (2D-DOA) estimation method with total variation regularization is proposed to deal with the problem of sparse DOA estimation for spatially extended sources. In a general sparse framework, the sparse 2D-DOA estimation problem is formulated with the regularization of extended source characteristics including spatial position grouping, acoustic signal block sparse, and correlation features. An extended sources acoustic model, two-dimensional array manifold and its complete representation, total variation regularization penalty term, and the regularization equation are built, and are utilized to seek the solutions where the non-zero coefficients are grouped together with optimum sparseness. A total variation sparse 2D-DOA estimation model is constructed by combining total variation regularization with LASSO. The model can be easily solved by the convex optimization algorithm, and the solving process can promote the sparsity of the solution on the spatial derivatives and the solution itself. The theoretical analysis results show that the steps of decorrelation processing and angle matching of traditional 2D-DOA estimation methods could be avoided when adopting the proposed method. The proposed method has better robustness to noise, better sparsity, and faster estimation speed with higher resolution than traditional methods. It is promising to provide a coherent sources sparse representation of a non-strictly sparse field.

Endometrial decidualization is a uterine process essential for spiral artery remodeling, embryo implantation, and trophoblast invasion. Defects in endometrial decidualization and spiral artery remodeling are important contributing factors in preeclampsia, a major disorder in pregnancy. Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) is a cardiac hormone that regulates blood volume and pressure. ANP is also generated in non-cardiac tissues, such as the uterus and placenta. In recent human genome-wide association studies, multiple loci with genes involved in natriuretic peptide signaling are associated with gestational hypertension and preeclampsia. In cellular experiments and mouse models, uterine ANP has been shown to stimulate endometrial decidualization, increase TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand expression and secretion, and enhance apoptosis in arterial smooth muscle cells and endothelial cells. In placental trophoblasts, ANP stimulates adenosine 5′-monophosphate-activated protein kinase and the mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 signaling, leading to autophagy inhibition and protein kinase N3 upregulation, thereby increasing trophoblast invasiveness. ANP deficiency impairs endometrial decidualization and spiral artery remodeling, causing a preeclampsia-like phenotype in mice. These findings indicate the importance of natriuretic peptide signaling in pregnancy. This review discusses the role of ANP in uterine biology and potential implications of impaired ANP signaling in preeclampsia.

Concrete wastewater from mixing stations leads to environment contamination due to its high alkalinity. The wastewater can be reused if its solid content is accurately and timely detected. However, investigations into the traditional methods for wastewater reuse have demonstrated that they are time consuming and not efficient. Therefore, the exact acquirement of solid content in concrete wastewater becomes a necessity. Recent studies have shown that deep learning has been successfully applied to detect the concentration of chemical solutions and the particle content of suspending liquid. Moreover, deep learning can also be used to recognize the accurate water level, which facilitates the detection of the solid–liquid separation surface after wastewater sedimentation. Therefore, in this article the feasibility and challenges of applying deep learning to detect the solid content of concrete wastewater were comprehensively evaluated and discussed. Finally, an experimental setup was proposed for future research, and it indicated that transfer learning, data augmentation, hybrid approaches, and multi-sensor integration techniques can be selected to facilitate future experimental performances.

The phenomena of melting and dendritic fragmentation are captured by using an in-situ device during the ultrasound-assisted solidification of a succinonitrile-acetone (SCN-ACE) alloy. The experimental results show that the dendrite arms detach from primary trunk due to the melting of the solid phase, which is caused by a moving ultrasound cavitation bubble. To quantify the interactions between the ultrasound cavitation bubble and the solidification front, a coupled lattice Boltzmann (LB) model is developed for describing the fields of temperature, flow, and solid fraction, and their interactions. The multi-relaxation-time (MRT) scheme is applied in the LB model to calculate the liquid-gas flow field, while the Bhatnagar–Gross–Krook (BGK) equation is executed to simulate the evolution of temperature. The kinetics of solidification and melting are calculated according to the lever rule based on the SCN-ACE phase diagram. After the validation of the LB model by an analytical model, the morphologies of the cavitation bubble and solidification front are simulated. It is revealed that the solidification interface melts due to the increase of the temperature nearby the cavitation bubble in ultrasonic field. The simulated morphologies of the cavitation bubble and solidification front are compared well with the experimental micrograph. Quantitative investigations are carried out for analyzing the melting rate of the solidification front under different conditions. The simulated data obtained from LB modeling and theoretical predictions reasonably accord with the experimental results, demonstrating that the larger the ultrasonic intensity, the faster the melting rate. The present study not only reveals the evolution of the solidification front shape caused by the cavitation bubbles, which is invisible in the ultrasound-assisted solidification process of practical alloys, but also reproduces the complex interactions among the temperature field, acoustic streaming, and multi-phase flows.

Acorane-type sesquiterpenes comprise a unique class of natural products with a range of pharmaceutical effects. Genome sequencing and gene annotation, along with qRT-PCR detection, demonstrate that the deep-sea derived Penicillium bilaiae F-28 fungus shows potential to produce acorane sesquiterpenes. Chromatographic manipulation resulted in the isolation of 20 acorane sesquiterpenes from the large-scale fermented fungal strain. Their structures were established by the interpretation of spectroscopic data, together with X-ray diffraction, chemical conversion, and ECD data for configurational assignments. A total of 18 new sesquiterpenes, namely, bilaiaeacorenols A–R (1–18), were identified. Bilaiaeacorenols A and B represent structurally unique tricyclic acoranes. Compound 18 exhibited efficient reduction against NO production in LPS-induced BV-2 macrophages in a dose-dependent manner, and it abolished LPS-induced NF-κB in the nucleus of BV-2 microglial cells. In addition, marked reductions of iNOS and COX-2 in protein and mRNA levels were observed. This study extends the chemical diversity of acorane-type sesquiterpenoids and suggests that compound 18 is a promising lead for anti-neuroinflammation.

The combination of protein and flavonoids can ameliorate the problems of poor solubility and stability of flavonoids in utilization. In this study, soybean protein isolate pretreated by ultrasonication was selected as the embedding wall material, which was combined with luteolin to form a soybean protein isolate-luteolin nanodelivery system. The complexation effect and structural changes of soybean protein isolate (SPI) and ultrasonic pretreatment (100 W, 200 W, 300 W, 400 W and 500 W) of soybean protein isolate with luteolin (LUT) were compared, as well as the changes in digestion characteristics and antioxidant activity in vitro. The results showed that proper ultrasonic pretreatment increased the encapsulation efficacy, loading amount and solubility to 89.72%, 2.51 μg/mg and 90.56%. Appropriate ultrasonic pretreatment could make the particle size and the absolute value of ζ-potential of SPI-LUT nanodelivery system decrease and increase respectively. The FTIR and fluorescence results show that appropriate ultrasonic pretreatment could reduce α-helix, β-sheet and random coil, increase β-turn, and enhance fluorescence quenching. The thermodynamic evaluation results indicate that the ΔG 0 and ΔS > 0, so the interaction of LUT with the protein was spontaneous and mostly governed by hydrophobic interactions. The XRD results show that the LUT was amorphous and completely wrapped by SPI. The DSC results showed that ultrasonic pretreatment could improve the thermal stability of SPI-LUT nanodelivery system to 112.66 ± 1.69 °C. Digestion and antioxidant analysis showed that appropriate ultrasonic pretreatment increased the LUT release rate and DPPH clearance rate of SPI-LUT nanodelivery system to 89.40 % and 55.63 % respectively. This study is a preliminary source for the construction of an SPI nanodelivery system with ultrasound pretreatment and the deep processing and utilization of fat-soluble active substances.

All-inorganic CsPbI3 perovskite quantum dots (PeQDs) have sparked widespread research due to their excellent optoelectronic properties and facile synthesis. However, attaining highly stable CsPbI3 perovskite quantum dots (PeQDs) against heat and polar solvents still remains a challenge and hinders any further practical application. Here, by exploiting (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES) as the sole silica (SiO2) precursor, we report a one-step in situ synthesis of single SiO2-coated CsPbI3 (SiO2-CsPbI3) PeQDs, namely that one SiO2 particle only contains one CsPbI3 PeQD particle. The obtained SiO2-CsPbI3 PeQDs are cubic in shape, have a more uniform size distribution, and possess narrow emission, with near unit photoluminescence quantum yields of up to 97.5%. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirm the formation of SiO2 through the hydrolysis of APTES on the CsPbI3 PeQDs surface. Furthermore, they have a significantly improved stability against storage, heat, and ethanol. By combining purple-emission GaN light-emitting diodes, the SiO2-CsPbI3 PeQDs were successfully employed as down-conversion emitters and exhibited considerable enhanced luminous performance and excellent stability, demonstrating their promising future in the practical application of solid-state lighting fields.

Epimedium (EM), also known as barrenwort, is a traditional medicinal plant rich in isopentenyl flavonols, which have beneficial biological activities and can improve human and animal health, but its mechanism is still unclear. In this study, ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography/quadrupole-time-of-flight-mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-TOF/MS) and ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography triple-quadrupole mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QqQ-MS/MS) were used to analyse the main components of EM, and isopentenyl flavonols such as Epimedin A, B, and C as well as Icariin were the major components of EM. Meanwhile, broilers were selected as model animals to illuminate the mechanism of Epimedium isopentenyl flavonols (EMIE) on gut health. The results showed that supplementation with 200 mg/kg EM improved the immune response, increased cecum short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and lactate concentrations, and improved nutrient digestibility in broilers. In addition, 16S rRNA sequencing showed that EMIE altered the composition of cecal microbiome, increasing the relative abundance of beneficial bacteria (Candidatus Soleaferrea and Lachbospiraceae NC2004 group and Butyricioccus) and reducing that of harmful bacteria (UBA1819, Negativibacillus, and Eisenbergiella). Metabolomic analysis identified 48 differential metabolites, of which Erosnin and Tyrosyl-Tryptophan were identified as core biomarkers. Erosnin and tyrosyl-tryptophan are potential biomarkers to evaluate the effects of EMIE. This shows that EMIE may regulate the cecum microbiota through Butyricicoccus, with changes in the relative abundance of the genera Eisenbergiella and Un. Peptostreptococcaceae affecting the serum metabolite levels of the host. EMIE is an excellent health product, and dietary isopentenyl flavonols, as bioactive components, can improve health by altering the microbiota structure and the plasma metabolite profiles. This study provides the scientific basis for the future application of EM in diets.

The positron emission tomography (PET) molecular imaging technology has gained universal value as a critical tool for assessing biological and biochemical processes in living subjects. The favorable chemical, physical, and nuclear characteristics of fluorine-18 (97% β+ decay, 109.8 min half-life, 635 keV positron energy) make it an attractive nuclide for labeling and molecular imaging. It stands that 2-[18F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose ([18F]FDG) is the most popular PET tracer. Besides that, a significantly abundant proportion of PET probes in clinical use or under development contain a fluorine or fluoroalkyl substituent group. For the reasons given above, 18F-labeled radiotracer design has become a hot topic in radiochemistry and radiopharmaceutics. Over the past decades, we have witnessed a rapid growth in 18F-labeling methods owing to the development of new reagents and catalysts. This review aims to provide an overview of strategies in radiosynthesis of [18F]fluorine-containing moieties with nucleophilic [18F]fluorides since 2015.

An Fe(II) complex with DPA-Bpy (DPA-Bpy = N,N-bis(2-pyridinylmethyl)-2,20-bipyridine-6 -methanamine) as the ligand was synthesized and characterized to mimic bleomycin. The binding constants (Kb) of the complex with calf thymus DNA and human serum albumin (HSA) were quantitatively evaluated using fluorescence spectroscopy, with Kb as 5.53×105 and 2.40×104 M−1, respectively; the number of the average binding site (n) is close to 1. The thermodynamic analyses suggested that the electrostatic interactions exist between the complex and DNA, and the hydrogen bonding and Van der Waals force exist for the complex and HSA. The Fe complex exhibits cleavage ability toward pBR322 DNA, and the crystal structure of the HSA Fe complex adduct at 2.4 Å resolution clearly shows that His288 serves as the axial ligand of the Fe center complexed with a pentadentate DPA-Bpy ligand. Furthermore, the cytotoxicity of the complex was evaluated against HeLa cells. Both the Fe complex and HSA Fe complex adduct show obvious effect on cell proliferation with an IC50 of 1.18 and 0.82 μM, respectively; they induced cell apoptosis and arrested cell cycles at S phase. This study provides insight into the plausible mechanism underlying their metabolism and pharmacological activity.

For nearly five decades, cisplatin has played an important role as a standard chemotherapeutic agent and been prescribed to 10–20% of all cancer patients. Although nephrotoxicity associated with platinum-based agents is well recognized, treatment of cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury is mainly supportive and no specific mechanism-based prophylactic approach is available to date. Here, we postulated that systemically delivered rapamycin perfluorocarbon nanoparticles (PFC NP) could reach the injured kidneys at sufficient and sustained concentrations to mitigate cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury and preserve renal function. Using fluorescence microscopic imaging and fluorine magnetic resonance imaging/spectroscopy, we illustrated that rapamycin-loaded PFC NP permeated and were retained in injured kidneys. Histologic evaluation and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) confirmed that renal structure and function were preserved 48 h after cisplatin injury. Similarly, weight loss was slowed down. Using western blotting and immunofluorescence staining, mechanistic studies revealed that rapamycin PFC NP significantly enhanced autophagy in the kidney, reduced the expression of intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1) and vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1), as well as decreased the expression of the apoptotic protein Bax, all of which contributed to the suppression of apoptosis that was confirmed with TUNEL staining. In summary, the delivery of an approved agent such as rapamycin in a PFC NP format enhances local delivery and offers a novel mechanism-based prophylactic therapy for cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury.

Silicon nitride is a material compatible with CMOS processes and offers several advantages, such as a wide transparent window, a large forbidden band gap, negligible two-photon absorption, excellent nonlinear properties, and a smaller thermo-optic coefficient than silicon. Therefore, it has received significant attention in the field of silicon photonics in recent years. The preparation of silicon nitride waveguides using low-pressure chemical vapor deposition methods results in lower loss and better process repeatability. However, due to the higher temperature of the process, when the thickness of the silicon nitride film exceeds 300 nm on an 8-inch wafer, it is prone to cracking due to the high stress generated by the film. Limited by this high stress, silicon nitride waveguide devices are typically developed on wafers with a thickness of 4 inches or less. In this work, we successfully fabricated a 400 nm-thick silicon nitride waveguide on an 8-inch wafer using a Damascene method similar to the CMOS process for copper interconnects and demonstrated propagation losses of only 0.157 dB/cm at 1550 nm and 0.06 dB/cm at 1580 nm.

Recently, a layer-stacked ESN model named deep echo state network (DeepESN) has been established. As an interactional model of a recurrent neural network and deep neural network, investigations of DeepESN are of significant importance in both areas. Optimizing the structure of neural networks remains a common task in artificial neural networks, and the question of how many neurons should be used in each layer of DeepESN must be stressed. In this paper, our aim is to solve the problem of choosing the optimized size of DeepESN. Inspired by the sensitive iterative pruning algorithm, a neuronal similarity-based iterative pruning merging algorithm (NS-IPMA) is proposed to iteratively prune or merge the most similar neurons in DeepESN. Two chaotic time series prediction tasks are applied to demonstrate the effectiveness of NS-IPMA. The results show that the DeepESN pruned by NS-IPMA outperforms the unpruned DeepESN with the same network size, and NS-IPMA is a feasible and superior approach to improving the generalization performance of DeepESN. The newly proposed method has broad application prospects in real-time systems.

Traditional learning-based multi-view stereo (MVS) methods usually need to find the correct depth value from a large number of depth candidates, which leads to huge memory consumption and slow inference. To address these problems, we propose a probabilistic depth sampling in the learning-based PatchMatch framework, i.e., sampling a small number of depth candidates from a single-view probability distribution, which achieves the purpose of saving computational resources. Furthermore, to overcome the difficulty of obtaining ground-truth depth for outdoor large-scale scenes, we also propose a self-supervised training pipeline based on knowledge distillation, which involves self-supervised teacher training and student training based on knowledge distillation. Extensive experiments show that our approach outperforms other recent learning-based MVS methods on DTU, Tanks and Temples, and ETH3D datasets.

The main reason students drop out of online courses is often that they lose interest during learning. Moreover, it is not easy for students to choose an appropriate course before actually learning it. Course recommendation is necessary to address this problem. Most existing course recommendation methods depend on the interaction result (e.g., completion rate, grades, etc.). However, the long period required to complete a course, especially large-scale online courses in higher education, can lead to serious sparsity of interaction results. In view of this, we propose a novel course recommendation method named HGE-CRec, which utilizes context formation for heterogeneous graphs to model students and courses. HGE-CRec develops meta-path embedding simulation and meta-path weight fusion to enhance the meta-path embedding set, which can expand the learning space of the prediction model and improve the representation ability of meta-path embedding, thereby avoiding tedious manual setting of the meta-path and improving the effectiveness of the resulting recommendations. Extensive experiments show that the proposed approach has advantages over a number of existing baseline methods.

Being a key source of animal food, millet production has been sharply increasing over the last few years in order to cope with the dietary requirements of the ever-increasing world population. It is a splendid source of essential nutrients such as protein, carbohydrates, fat, minerals, vitamins, and also some other bioactive compounds that eventually help through multiple biological activities, including antioxidant, anti-hyperglycemic, anti-cholesterol, anti-hypertensive, anthropometric effects and regulation of gut microbiota composition. These bioactive compounds, nutrients, and functions of cereal grains can be affected by processing techniques such as decortication, soaking, malting, milling, fermentation, etc. This study discusses the nutritional and functional properties of millet-incorporated foods and their impact on health, based on around 150 articles between 2015 and 2022 from the Web of Science, Google Scholar, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Breeding Bid Survey (BBS), and FoodData Central (USDA) databases. Analyzing literature reviews, it is evident that the incorporation of millet and its constituents into foodstuffs could be useful against undernourishment and several other health diseases. The erythroferrone gene (ERFE), also termed CTRP15, belongs to the C1q tumor necrosis factor-related protein (CTRP) family. Despite multiple reports about the involvement of CTRPs in cancer, the role of ERFE in cancer progression is largely unknown. We previously found that ERFE was upregulated in erythroid progenitors in myelodysplastic syndromes and strongly predicted overall survival. To understand the potential molecular interactions and identify cues for further functional investigation and the prognostic impact of ERFE in other malignancies, we performed a pan-cancer in silico analysis utilizing the Cancer Genome Atlas datasets. Our analysis shows that the ERFE mRNA is significantly overexpressed in 22 tumors and affects the prognosis in 11 cancer types. In certain tumors such as breast cancer and adrenocortical carcinoma, ERFE overexpression has been associated with the presence of oncogenic mutations and a higher tumor mutational burden. The expression of ERFE is co-regulated with the factors and pathways involved in cancer progression and metastasis, including activated pathways of the cell cycle, extracellular matrix/tumor microenvironment, G protein-coupled receptor, NOTCH, WNT, and PI3 kinase-AKT. Moreover, ERFE expression influences intratumoral immune cell infiltration. Conclusively, ERFE is aberrantly expressed in pan-cancer and can potentially function as a prognostic biomarker based on its putative functions during tumorigenesis and tumor development.

Abstract Protein derived from purple wheat bran was hydrolyzed sequentially using alcalase proteases for the production of antioxidant peptides. Purple wheat bran protein (PWBP) hydrolysates were fractionated using size-exclusion (G-25) and ion-exchange chromatography methods to identify the structure of antioxidant peptides. The free radical scavenging activity of peptides purified from PWBP hydrolysates was evaluated using superoxide anion radical-scavenging activity and determination assays of Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC). Results demonstrated that purple wheat bran peptide F4-4 exhibited the highest antioxidant activity among other hydrolysates. F4-4 was further identified as Cys-Gly-Phe-Pro-Gly-His-Cys, Gln-Ala-Cys, Arg-Asn-Phe, Ser-Ser-Cys, and Trp-Phe by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) spectrometer coupled with Orbitrap Elite™ mass spectrometer (LC–MS/MS). Antioxidant peptides 2 and 4 showed improved stability when the temperature was lower than 80 °C. These peptides also demonstrated good digestive stability in vitro system by simulating gastrointestinal digestion.
