Background: Periodontitis affects approximately 20%–50% of the global population and is caused by gram-negative bacteria, such as Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis). Host modulation therapy (HMT) is part of a periodontal therapy that is used as an adjunct to conventional periodontal treatment to reduce tissue damage. Lemuru fish oil containing EPA and DHA can reduce the formation of MMPs and will further increase the number of fibroblasts there by stimulating collagen formation. Purpose: To determine the effect of lemuru fish oil gel on the collagen density and width of the periodontal tissue induced by P. gingivalis and the correlation between these parameters. Methods: Thirty male Wistar rats were divided into five groups. Induction of P. gingivalis was carried out first, then lemuru fish oil gel was applied to the gingival sulcus for 14 days, according to collagen scores in histological preparations using Masson's trichrome (MT). The width of the periodontal ligament was measured with an image raster program in µm. The d ata were analysed using statistics to test hypotheses using SPSS version 24. Results: Significant differences in the results of the c ollagen density were observed between groups K- and K+ and groups K+ and P2. Meanwhile, no significant difference was observed between groups K- and P2, P3, P2 and P3 and K+ and P1 . The mean values of the periodontal ligament widths were K- (299.61 ± 51.82µm), K+ (425.85 ± 61.54µm), P1 (346.93 ± 33.53µm), P2 (370.15 ± 49.42µm) and P3 (379.6 ± 49.26). Conclusion: Lemuru fish oil can affect the width of the ligament and the collagen density with an optimal concentration of 20%. The correlation between the collagen density and the periodontal ligament width was negative and not significant.

Dunia kini menghadapi masalah pencemaran lingkungan karena penggunaan bahan bakar fosil yang ekstensif dalam industri atau transportasi. Oleh karena itu, sangat mendesak untuk menemukan sumber daya terbarukan alternatif untuk produksi bahan bakar cair dan bahan kimia. Energi alternatif dari senyawa alkohol yang telah dikembangkan di Indonesia adalah bioetanol. Biofuel dari senyawa alkohol lainnya yang telah dikembangkan adalah bio-butanol. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan energy alternative pengganti minyak bumi berupa biobutanol. Bio-butanol adalah senyawa alkohol yang memiliki rumus molekul C4H9OH dan dihasilkan dari proses fermentasi bahan-bahan organik yang memiliki kandungan karbohidrat dengan menggunakan bakteri Clostridium Acetobutylicum. Fruktosa food grade diencerkan dengan air lalu difermentasi dengan penambahan bakteri Clostridium acetobutylicum selama 12 hari pada temperature ruang. Pelaksanaan penelitian dengan memfermentasi larutan fruktosa (6%v/v; 9%v/v; 12%v/v; 15%v/v; dan 18%v/v) dan jumlah bakteri Clostridium acetobutylicum (1; 2; 3; 4; 5 ml). Pengujian kadar biobutanol dianalisa menggunakan GC (Gas Chromatography). Kadar biobutanol yang relative baik dihasilkan dari fermentasi larutan fruktosa 15%v/v dan jumlah bakteri sebanyak 5 ml dengan hasil 0.9058%v/v.

The difference in soil layer can affect heterotroph respiration that means CO 2 fluxes from microbial decomposition in peatlands. Oil palm plants release root exudates transported to other places, i.e., shrub, by water movement, which can stimulate microbial activity. This study was conducted to learn the effects of differences of the soil layer and distance from the trunk in drainage peatland under oil palm plantation on total bacteria, fungi, cellulolytic bacteria, ligninolytic fungi, and heterotroph fluxes CO 2 , then compared to a shrub. Heterotroph respiration decreased with soil layer depth, where at the layer 0-20 cm released amount of CO 2 as much 6.07 + 1.76, at 20-40 cm was 5.18 + 0.50, and at 40-60 cm 5.27 + 1.20 mg CO 2 100 g -1 day -1 , and tended higher than in shrub where a layer of 0-20 cm released 5.51 + 1.69, then decrease at 20-40 cm to 4.83 + 1.38, and at 40-60 cm 4.30 + 1.08 mg CO 2 100 g -1 day -1 . Total bacteria (10 7 CFU g -1 ) and fungi (10 5 CFU g -1 ) were higher than total cellulolytic bacteria (10 3 CFU g -1 ) and ligninolytic fungi (10 2 CFU g -1 ) in both under oil palm plantation and shrub. Organic acids affected the abundance of total bacteria and fungi but did not affect cellulolytic bacteria and ligninolytic fungi on both sites, as shown by a lower population and low cellulose and laccase enzymes. These findings showed that heterotroph CO 2 flux tended higher in oil palm plantations and lignocellulolytic microbes are not the only source of heterotroph respiration.

Introduction and Aim: Activated autologous platelet-rich plasma (aaPRP) is becoming a popular therapy to accelerate healing in the field of plastic surgery. Platelets, which are abundant in aaPRP, can release many growth factors including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). This study aims to examine the plasma levels of PDGF and VEGF in healthy subjects after intravenous administration of aaPRP. Materials and Methods: Nine healthy patients with no prior history of metabolic disease were divided into two groups (control and experiment group). The treatment group which consists of six patients received intravenous aaPRP treatment. The preparation of aaPRP starts with the collection of 24 mL of whole blood in sodium citrate tubes followed a two-step centrifugation procedure and subsequent chemical activation. aaPRP was then administered intravenously to patients. Meanwhile, the control group received no intervention. Venous blood samples were taken before and one week after the treatment and the plasma PDGF and VEGF levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results: The treatment group showed statistically significant increase in VEGF after 7 days compared to before aaPRP administration. However, the change in PDGF levels of the treatment group was unnotable. Conclusion: The present findings indicate that intravenous administrations of activated aaPRP may increase plasma VEGF level up to 1 week after aaPRP administration.

Sample particle size is an important parameter in the solid–liquid extraction system of natural products for obtaining their bioactive compounds. This study evaluates the effect of sample particle size on the phytochemical composition and antioxidant activity of brown macroalgae Sargassum cristaefolium. The crude ethanol extract was extracted from dried powders of S.cristeafolium with various particle sizes (> 4000 µm, > 250 µm, > 125 µm, > 45 µm, and S.cristaefolium were analysed for Total Phenolic Content (TPC), Total Flavonoid Content (TFC), phenolic compound concentration and antioxidant activities. The extract yield and phytochemical composition were more abundant in smaller particle sizes. Furthermore, the TPC (14.19 ± 2.08 mg GAE/g extract to 43.27 ± 2.56 mg GAE/g extract) and TFC (9.6 ± 1.8 mg QE/g extract to 70.27 ± 3.59 mg QE/g extract) values also significantly increased as particle sizes decreased. In addition, phenolic compounds epicatechin (EC), epicatechin gallate (ECG), epigallocatechin (EGC), and Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) concentration were frequently increased in samples of smaller particle sizes based on two-way ANOVA and Tukey’s multiple comparison analysis. Background: Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease that occurs in periodontal tissues. Porphyromonas gingivalis is also known as a bacterium commonly associated with the pathogenesis of periodontitis. Tetracycline is one of the antibiotics often used in periodontal tissue treatment. Propolis and Moringa oleifera are also known to have certain compounds assumed to be able to inhibit biofilm growth. Purpose: This study aims to understand the effectiveness of the combination of Moringa oleifera and propolis on porphyomonas gingivalis biofilms compared to 0.7% tetracycline. Methods: A biofilm inhibition activity test was performed using the broth micro dilution method. First, bacteria were prepared by making a suspension in brain heart infusion media and adjusting it to 0.5 McFarland I standard. Children with protein-energy malnutrition (PEM) need a food product that can be easily absorbed by the body because they have impaired nutrient utilization and lipid profile disorder. The provision of fermented products such as tempeh is an alternative approach. Seeds of tree bean (Parkia timoriana (DC) Merr.) are a good source of various nutrients needed by children with PEM. This study aimed to prove the effectiveness of the administration of tempeh flour from tree bean (Parkia timoriana (DC) Merr.) seeds on the lipid profile in PEM rats. PEM in rats was induced by a zero-protein diet containing granulated sugar (20 g), vegetable oil (1 g), and cornstarch (24 g). The animals were categorized into a normal control group (K+), a PEM group without treatment (K−); a group fed tempeh flour from tree bean (Parkia timoriana (DC) Merr.) seeds 1.5 g.kg-1 BW (P1); and a group fed tempeh flour from tree bean (Parkia timoriana (DC) Merr.) seeds 3 g.kg-1 BW (P2). The intervention was administered for 30 days. There was a significant increase in HDL levels (p = 0.001) and significant decreases in cholesterol (p = 0.001), triglyceride (p = 0.001), LDL levels (p = 0.001), and atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) (p = 0.000) in treatment groups. In conclusion, the administration of tempeh flour from tree bean (Parkia timoriana (DC) Merr.) seeds increases HDL levels and decreases cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL level, and atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) in rats with PEM.

Introduction: Uremic xerosis with pruritus (UXP) is a chronic cutaneous complication among patients undergoing maintenance renal dialysis. Uremic xerosis level is directly related with pruritus severity or vice versa. Uremic xerosis with pruritus may lead to discomfort and negative psychological effect. The ethiopathogenesis still unknown, Most of treatments are empirical, and there is no effective and safe therapy. Emollient has not been effective enough to improve quality of life. There is some report about efficacy of topical vitamin D in xerosis and chronic pruritus. Objective: We evaluate the efficacy of calcipotriol 0.005% ointment for uremic xerosis and uremic pruritus in chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis. Material & methode: Sixty two patients with UXP were enrolled, randomized double blind study. Patients were divided to two group, calcipotriol 0.005% ointment group or placebo. In baseline, patients were instructed to apply twice daily for four weeks. We assesesment the efficacy and safety of calcipotriol 0.005% ointment and placebo after 2nd and 4th weeks treatment using overall dry skin score (ODSS), visual analog scale (VAS), corneometer and sebumeter. We also assessed adverse effect and tolerance this drugs using visual assessment scale. The study of exhaust H 2 S and NO 2 gases using activated carbon has been conducted. In this study, activated carbon was prepared from mendong plant (Frimbistylis umbellaris) , which was activated using zinc chloride (ZnCl 2 ) with concentrations of 2.5; 5; 7.5; and 10 % w/v to determine the efficiency of H 2 S adsorption. Mendong charcoal was obtained from the process of using a modified tool. Activation was done by maceration using ZnCl 2 activator (w/v) for 24 hours. The adsorption of H 2 S and NO 2 was analyzed using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Determinations of H 2 S gas carried out using the blue methylene’s method for 1 hour showed the highest effectiveness of mendong activated carbon was of that at the concentration of 2.5 % ZnCl 2 w/v with 80% of H 2 S removal. Further, the mendong activated carbon with the concentration of 2.5% ZnCl 2 w/v was used for NO 2 adsorption. The adsorption of NO 2 gas was conducted for 1 hour using Griess Saltzman’s method. The result showed that the largest concentration of NO 2 gas was adsorbed when the HNO 3 concentration was 1.5 M (0.057 µg/mL). The percentage of NO 2 efficiency adsorbed was at 28%.

Cellulose is the main constituent of cell walls in plants, cellulose (C6H10O5) n is a long-chain polymer of polysaccharides, 1,4-beta-D-glucose. Cellulose can be extracted from corn stalks with a yield of 35.61%. This cellulose can be used as a base for making edible films other than starch. Improving the physicochemical quality of edible film can be done by adding a plasticizer, such as sorbitol. The aim of this research is to produce edible film from cellulose corn stalks with the addition of sorbitol as a plasticizer. The experimental design used in this study was a completely randomized design with one factor, namely the concentration of Sorbitol (A) with 6 treatment levels, namely A1 = 0% (control), A2 = 1 ml; A3 = 2 ml; A4 = 3 ml; A5 = 4 ml and A6 = 5 mL. Each treatment was repeated three times in order to obtain experimental units 6 x 3 = 18 experimental units. The product analysis carried out was the thickness, tensile strength, and pH of the edible film. The results showed that the best edible with the highest tensile strength value was obtained when the addition of 4 ml sorbitol was 9.45 MPa.

The purpose of this study was to determine the antioxidant activity of fermented tea (black tea) with Ketapang leaves (Terminalia catappa) using two variations of leaf age, namely leaflets 1-3 and 4-5. The parameters observed were water content, pH, antioxidant activity (IC 50 ) and total phenol content of tea. R esults showed that the antioxidant activity of young leaves (shoots 1-3) significantly higher than old leaves (shoots 4-5) but had lower total phenol and pH. In general, the character of Ketapang leaf tea products at shoots 1-5 has water content ranging from 5.55-5.58%, total phenol content of 22.63-28.97 mg / g EAG, and antioxidant activity (IC 50 ) of 6.27-6 . 71 µg/ml and the pH of steeping water from 5.9 to 6.1.

Nori is a traditional Japanese food made from thin sheets of Phorphyra sea algae. This study aims to determine the effect of binder in the form of agar, CMC and tapioca to the characteristics of artificial nori Moringa leaves. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 variations of the binder used: tapioca flour, agar, and CMC with a concentration of 5%. The results of the analysis of the highest water content and ash content were the samples using CMC binder of 10.7067% and 17.2233%. The highest color analysis results on the use of CMC binder obtained the L value of 21.30, the value of a * = -4.26 and the value of b * = 57.33. The most preferred nori by panelists is nori with the addition of CMC.

The large number of old, damaged, or dead tea plants cause the plant population per hectare to be low that eventually decreases the productivity. Propagation using the transplantation technique is used for embroidery because it has the advantage of a shorter immature plant period and higher seed size so that it can compensate for the surrounding plants but the weakness of transplantation is low success rate. This study aims to 1) determine the morphological changes of root transplantation and biochemistry on TRI 2025 clone transplantation using cocopeat, husk charcoal, and moss, 2) determine the success rate of transplantation in each medium. This research was conducted in August 2018–January 2019 at the Pagilaran production garden, PT. Pagilaran, Batang, Central Java. Field experiments were prepared using a single factor Completely Randomized Environment Design (CRD). The factors tested were the type of transplantation media, namely the media of husk charcoal, cocopeat, and moss. Observations were made on transplantation root morphology, levels of glucose, sucrose, and total sugar in the transplanted stem bark and the concentration of auxin, gibberellin, and cytokinin in the transplant roots. The data obtained were then analyzed using variance and if there was a significant difference between treatments, the Duncan multiple distance test (DMRT) was continued at the 95% confidence level. The results showed that the type of media had no significant effect on the ability to form glucose, sucrose, and total sugar in the bark. The development of root morphology of cocopeat media was seen to be the highest. The ratio of cytokinin/auxin in cocopeat was the lowest but the highest levels of cytokinin and auxin were found in moss, while cocopeat had the highest level of gibberellin. The highest transplanting success rate was found in moss medium with 58.33%, cocopeat and husk charcoal media had the same success rate, namely 41.60%. Mineral absorption in ruminants have not been maximal. This would be seen from the various problems that occur in ruminants, one of which was caused by mineral deficiency, especially the mineral Selenium (Se). Therefore, it was necessary to have applied technology to increase the absorption of Se minerals, one of which was used by bionanomineral technology. The purpose of this study was to determine the production of bionanomineral Se from various types of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) strains. The method used consisted of preparing tools and materials, breeding lactic acid bacteria, making Bionanomineral Se, and observed the production of Bionanomineral Se. The research treatment consisted of 2 stages, namely the first stage consisting of 4 treatments of different LAB strains: TSD 10, SPCE, DR162, and IA2, stage 2 each LAB strains were given treatment doses of 25 ppm and 50 ppm. The parameters observed included Stage 1: Bionanomineral production produced by intracellular and extracellular bacteria, stage 2: Optical Density (OD) and pH. The research design used a quantitative descriptive. The results showed that extracellular bionanomineral production was more than intracellular, the addition of 25 to 50 ppm Se showed that the OD of the four bacterial strains survived, and the pH results varied from each bacterial strain but were still within the normal range. The conclusion of this research was the production of bionanomineral Se as much as 25 ppm and 50 ppm in various types of different LAB strains, would be used as a potential source of organic Se minerals for ruminants.

The use of phosphorus and potassium-solubilizing microbes as biofertilizers is an alternative method to increase the availability of phosphorus and potassium in soils. This study aimed to explore the effectiveness of phosphorus (P) and potassium (K)-solubilizing multifunctional microbes ( Aspergillus costaricaensis and Staphylococcus pasteuri mutants) on maize growth. The stages of this study consisted of viability test of P and K solubilizing A. costaricaensis and S. pasteuri mutants in peat and effectiveness test of P and K solubilizing A. costaricaensis and S. pasteuri mutants on maize growth. The results showed that peat carriers could keep the fungi population stable until 18 weeks of storage times. While the bacteria at 6 and 8 weeks storage times showed a slight decrease and stable in the 10 to 12 weeks storage time. The addition of P and K-solubilizing multifunctional microbes could reduce the use of fertilizer up to 50% in the treatment with a combination of easily soluble P or K sources with not-easily soluble P or K sources, as well as a combination of treatments of not-easily soluble P and K sources. This tended to occur in the treatment with the addition of A. costaricaensis mutant.

An exessive use of inorganic fertilizers in agriculture cultivation system causes many disadventages, such as increase cost production, reduce farmer’s income and soil fertility, and harm our environment. Therefore, it is needed to find out raw materials for development of organic biostimulant and biofertilizer inducing essential element absorption, growth and yield of plants, which are adaptive to our environment as well. Previous researchres reported that seaweed contained plant growth hormones and essential elements in liquid and solid extracts respectively. This article reports effect of solid and liquid extracts of Sargassum cristafolium on growth and yield of rice plants. The extracts were extracted according to modified procedure.. Solid extract (350 gr) of Sargassum cristafolium was mixed with soil (6650 gr) to become 7 kg soil media. Moreover, liquid extract (10%) of Sargassum cristafolium was sprayed to rice plants once a week during vegetative growth. The results shown that addition of 350 gr of solid extract to soil media increased growth (plant high, tiller number, shoot dry weight and root dry weight) and yield (penicle number and grain weight per plants) significantly compared with those of plants which were not supplied with solid extract. However, spraying liquid extract of Sargassum cristafolium did not affet significantly growth and yield of rice plants, even small change happen in growth and yield parameters of the rice plants supplied with solid extract. This indicates that solid extract is a potential source for development of biofertilizer which is adaptive to our environment to support sustainable agriculture system.

Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) which could induce skin damage and skin disease is a growing concern due to the increase in global warming. Brown macroalgae Sargassum cristaefolium has been recognized to exhibit UV protective activities. However, the mechanism of its photoprotective activity remains unclear. The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential mechanism of S. cristaefolium’s photoprotective activity against UV radiation. Phytochemical analyses revealed valuable bioactive compounds in SCE, such as fucoxanthin which is widely known as an anti-inflammatory carotenoid. Treatment with SCE before UV-A radiation show reduced levels of wrinkles and desquamation. Interestingly, SCE treatment induces the skin healing process after UV radiation. SCE effectively inhibited proinflammatory TNF-α and IL-6 expression while increasing IL-10 production in the BALB/c mice skin. Current results suggest that SCE potentially protects the skin by attenuation of inflammatory cytokines. In addition, SCE demonstrates promising antibacterial activity (MIC = 1.302 µg/mL) against Staphylococcus aureus. Overall, SCE could be a source of an effective anti-inflammatory agent protecting against UV irradiation-induced skin damages.

Cadmium was one of the metals classified in the type of nonessential heavy metal that classified as carcinogenic and is one of the pollutants in the environment, especially water. The content of cadmium in water tends to have very low levels, so certain techniques are needed to determine the level of pre concentration. In the pre concentration technique adsorbents were needed which could absorb cadmium, one of which is calcium-alginate microcapsule modified with EDTA. Calcium-alginate was modified with EDTA to increase the ability of the microcapsule to absorb cadmium metal. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum conditions for making Calcium-alginate-EDTA microcapsule in adsorbing cadmium. The stages of this research were optimization of Calcium-alginate-EDTA resin with variable in the form of Calcium chloride concentration (0.05 M; 0.1 M; 0.5 M; 1 M; and 2 M), EDTA mass (0.50 g ; 0.75 g; 1 g; 2 g and 2.5 g) and the concentration of sodium-alginate (0.5%; 1%, 1.5%; 2%, and 3%); Characterization of microcapsule functional groups by infrared spectrophotometry and determination of the retention capacity of Calcium-Alginate-EDTA microcapsule for cadmium absorption by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The results of infrared characterization showed a change in transmittance in the functional groups C-O dan C-N that occurred in the microcapsule after binding to cadmium metal at wave number 1436.97 cm-1. The optimum conditions for making Calcium-alginate-EDTA resins were in conditions of 0.1 M Calcium chloride concentration, 1% sodium-alginate concentration and EDTA mass 0.75 g EDTA with retention capacity of Cd was 0.0301 mg/g.

The stable isotope ratios of nitrogen (δ15N) and carbon (δ13C) were applied in this study to analyze sediment carbon sources and primary food sources of epifauna in an oceanic mangrove forest in tropical North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Proportional contribution of mangrove-derived carbon to the food sources was compared among epifauna belonging to different feeding guilds. The sediment in the mangrove site with a depleted δ13C signature (−28.02‰±0.24‰) mainly consists of mangrove-derived carbon. Analysis using Bayesian stable isotope mixing model in the R program shows that mangrove-derived carbon can dominate the food sources of a majority of the epifauna (11 out of the total 18 species), especially 2 sesarmid crabs Parasesarma semperi and Sesarma sp., crab Epixanthus dentatus, and snails Terebralia sulcata and Optediceros breviculum, which belong to various feeding guilds. Mangrove-derived carbon has a proportional contribution to the food sources of fiddle crab Tubuca coarctata and 3 littorinid snails (Littoraria spp.) close to that of suspended particulate organic matter. Three planktophagous bivalve species (Anadara antiquata, Anadara sp. and Callista erycina) were found to mainly feed on seagrass-derived materials. Mean proportional contributions of mangrove-derived carbon to the food sources were 50.15%, 59.60%, 46.20% and 27.58% for the carnivorous, omnivorous, phytophagous and planktophagous groups, respectively. The results suggest that mangrove-derived carbon can directly (via grazing plant tissues) or indirectly (via deposit feedings) make an important contribution to the food sources of epifauna in the oceanic mangrove forest where the allochthonous input of organic carbon is low.

Introduction: Maize downy mildew (MDM) is considered as a major problem in all maize growing areas in Indonesia including the Province of Lampung. Objectives: The objectives of this study were (i) to identify the species of Peronosclerospora causing maize downy mildew (MDM) in Lampung, (ii) to determine the influence of varieties on the intensity of downy mildew and (iii) to determine the efficacy of metalaxyl to control MDM on some maize varieties. Methodology: To identify Peronosclerospora causing MDM, the pathogens were observed under light microscope and scanning electron microscope. Maize varieties response against pathogens and efficacy metalaxyl were studied in the field with the test plants exposed to plants showing MDM symptoms as the sources of inocula to mimic natural conditions. Results: Peronosclerospora sorghi, P. maydis, and P. philippinensis were found to cause MDM in Lampung. On both varieties Pioneer 27 (P-27) and NK-22, AUDPC on F1 plants was greater than that on F2 plants. On P-27, the production of F2 was higher than that of F1 plants, but there was not significant difference in production between F1 and F2 of NK-22 variety. Seed treatment using metalaxyl was not effective to control downy mildew of maize. Conclusion: Three species of Peronosclerospora were identified as disease-causing pathogen of MDM in Lampung, but these results were tentatively pending for further studies through molecular techniques. F1 plants were more susceptible than F2 plants to MDM in both P-27 and NK-22. Metalaxyl was not effective in controlling MDM.

Robusta coffee (Coffea canephora) leaves contain phytochemical compounds and have antioxidant and anti-diabetic effects. This study investigated the effect of brewed Robusta coffee leaves on the total antioxidant status in metabolic syndrome rats. Metabolic syndrome in rats was induced by high-fat-fructose diet containing pork oil (20%), cholesterol (1.5%), cholic acid (0.5%), standard feed (80%), and fructose (1 mL per 200 g BW). The animals were categorized into normal control group (K1), metabolic syndrome control group without treatment (K2), mangiferin treatment group (X1), brewed Robusta coffee leaves 0.09 g per 200 BW group (X2), brewed Robusta coffee leaves 0.18 g per 200 BW group (X3), and brewed Robusta coffee leaves 0.36 g per 200 BW group (X4). Studi tentang kemampuan adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) sebagai sel punca yang dapat berdiferensiasi menjadi kondrosit menggunakan platelet-rich plasma (PRP) sebagai subtitusi fetal bovine serum (FBS) telah banyak dilaporkan. Penggunaan medium pertumbuhan dengan kombinasi ADSCs, PRP dan scaffold sutra masih belum banyak dipelajari dalam rekayasa jaringan kartilago. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari pengaruh medium yang mengandung 5%, 10% dan 20% PRP terhadap proses kondrogenesis ADSCs manusia yang dikultur pada scaffold sutra Bombyx mori Indonesia. Metode penelitian diawali dengan pembuatan scaffold sutra menggunakan metode salt-leaching , isolasi dan kultur ADSCs manusia dari jaringan lemak, uji pertumbuhan ADSCs pada scaffold sutra dengan variasi konsentrasi PRP pada medium serta analisis kadar glikosaminoglikan (GAG). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ADSCs yang dikultur menggunakan PRP lebih tinggi laju pertumbuhannya dibandingkan dikultur menggunakan FBS selama 7 hari pengamatan. Kadar GAG yang disekresikan ADSCs kelompok PRP juga lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelompok FBS. Kadar GAG tertinggi pada hari ke-21 pengamatan adalah medium yang mengandung 20% PRP kemudian 10% dan 5%, sedangkan kadar GAG kelompok kontrol cenderung stabil pada kadar yang rendah. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, medium yang mengandung PRP memiliki potensi dalam menginduksi kondrogenesis ADSCs yang dikultur pada scaffold sutra. Abstract The studies on adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) differentiation into chondrocytes using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) as a substitute for fetal bovine serum (FBS) have been reported. However, the combination of ADSCs, PRP and silk fibroin scaffold has not been widely studied for developing cartilage engineering. Therefore, this research aims to study the effect of medium containing 5%, 10% and 20% PRP towards chondrogenesis of human ADSCs cultured on silk fibroin scaffold from Indonesia Bombyx mori. At first, the silk fibroin scaffold was fabricated using a salt-leaching method, then ADSCs were isolated and cultured from adipose tissues. The assays of growth curve and biocompatibility of silk fibroin scaffold toward ADSCs supplemented by PRP as well as glycosaminoglycans (GAG) concentration were conducted later. The results showed that higher absorbance of proliferation rate was on ADSCs supplemented by various PRP concentrations compare to FBS control group for seven days of observation. Level of GAG, which secreted by ADSCs supplemented by a various concentration of PRP, was also higher than the FBS group. The highest level of GAG on day 21 was observed in 20% PRP group then 10% and 5% PRP, while a group of GAG level is stable at low levels. This study concludes that PRP has the potential to induce chondrogenesis ADSCs which cultured on silk fibroin scaffold.

Zinc oxide thin films have been developed through thermal oxidation of Zinc thin films grown by high impulse power magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS). The influence of various sputtering power on thin film structural, morphological, photocatalytic, and antimicrobial properties was investigated. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed that the crystalline phase of ZnO thin films consists of a hexagonal wurtzite structure. Increasing the sputtering power will lead to intrinsic stress on thin films that promote whisker formation. In this study, whiskers were successfully developed on the thin films without precursors/catalysts and not thermally treated over the Zn melting point. This finding showed that the film phase structure and morphology are significantly affected by sputtering power. It was found that ZnO thin films exhibit high photocatalytic performance under UV irradiation (89.91%) of methylene blue after 300 min of irradiation. The antimicrobial activity on ZnO thin films showed significant inhibition activity (p < 0.05) against E. coli, S. aureus, and C. albicans. However, the whisker formation on ZnO thin films is not accessible to enhance photocatalytic and antimicrobial activity. This study demonstrates that the HiPIMS method through the thermal oxidation process can promote a good performance of ZnO thin films as photocatalyst and antimicrobial agents.

A pure Ti target in Ar/O2 gas mixture was used to synthesize Ti3Ox thin film on a glass substrate by Reactive High-Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering (HiPIMS) under different sputtering power (2 and 2.5 kW). The influence of HiPIMS parameters on thin films’ structural, morphological, chemical composition, optical and photocatalytic, and antibacterial properties was investigated. In this study, Ti3Ox thin films can be synthesized using the HiPIMS method without the post-annealing process. Two co-existence phases (hexagonal Ti3O and base-centered monoclinic Ti3O5 phases) existed on the Ti3Ox films. It is found that the peak intensity of (006) Ti3O hexagonal slightly increased as the sputtering power increased from 2 to 2.5 kW. The Ti3Ox thin-film bandgap values were 3.36 and 3.50 eV for 2 and 2.5 kW, respectively. The Ti3Ox films deposited at 2.5 kW showed good photocatalytic activity under UV light irradiation, with a higher methylene blue dye degradation rate than TiO2 thin films. The antibacterial study on Ti3Ox thin films exhibited a high inhibition percentage against E. coli and S. aureus. This study demonstrates that Ti3Ox thin films can promote high photocatalytic and antibacterial activity.

The red macroalga Gelidium latifolium is widely distributed in the coastal areas of Indonesia. However, current knowledge on its potential biological activities is still limited. In this study, we investigated the potential bioactive compounds in Gelidium latifolium ethanol extract (GLE), and its cytotoxic effects against the murine B16-F10 melanoma cell line. GLE shows high total phenolic content (107.06 ± 17.42 mg GAE/g) and total flavonoid content (151.77 ± 3.45 mg QE/g), which potentially contribute to its potential antioxidant activity (DPPH = 650.42 ± 2.01 µg/mL, ABTS = 557.01 ± 1.94 µg/mL). ESI-HR-TOF-MS analysis revealed large absorption in the [M-H]- of 327.2339 m/z, corresponding to the monoisotopic molecular mass of brassicolene. The presence of this compound potentially contributes to GLE’s cytotoxic activity (IC50 = 84.29 ± 1.93 µg/mL). Furthermore, GLE significantly increased the number of apoptotic cells (66.83 ± 3.06%) compared to controls (18.83 ± 3.76%). Apoptosis was also confirmed by changes in the expression levels of apoptosis-related genes (i.e., p53, Bax, Bak, and Bcl2). Downregulated expression of Bcl2 indicates an intrinsic apoptotic pathway. Current results suggest that components of Gelidium latifolium should be further investigated as possible sources of novel antitumor drugs.

Hemobartonella felis adalah bakteri intraseluler Gram negatif yang menyerang eritrosit kucing. Pada kucing kasus ditemukan adanya pinjal (Ctenocephalides felis) yang diduga menjadi vektor dari infeksi Hemobartonella felis. Hasil pemeriksaan klinis pada kucing menunjukkan gejala demam, lemas, mukosa mata dan mulut pucat, penurunan nafsu makan dan minum, serta saat berjalan terkadang terlihat sempoyongan. Pemeriksan darah rutin menunjukkan bahwa kucing mengalami anemia makrositik hipokromik disertai dengan trombositopenia. Pada pemeriksaan preparat ulas darah ditemukan adanya bentukan seperti batang pada eritrosit kucing yang menandakan hasil positif Hemobartonella felis. Terapi yang diberikan yaitu terapi kausatif berupa pemberian antibiotik doksisiklin (5 mg/kgBB, selama 28 hari), terapi simtomatis dengan moxidectin satu tube, terapi suportif diberikan infus ringer laktat, dan pemberian vitamin cyanocobalamin, vitamin C, Fe, asam folat, dengan terapi ini diperoleh hasil yang memuaskan. Kucing sudah mulai aktif bermain, nafsu makan meningkat, warna mukosa merah muda dan suhu tubuh sudah kembali normal.

Background : Cigarette smoke exposure is one of the source of free radicals that causes oxidative stress and decreases superoxide dismutase (SOD) level. Purple fleshed sweet potato is a type of food that contains antioxidants to neutralize oxidative stress. Objectives : To study the effect of purple fleshed sweet potato on superoxide dismutase (sod) level on rats exposed to cigarette smoke. Methods : This was a true experimental study with a post-test randomized control group design. The rats were randomized into 4 groups (6 rats in each group). The negative control group (K-) was treated with standard diet; the positive control group (K+) was treated with cigarette smoke exposure and standard diet; the treatment 1 (P1) group was treated with standard diet and purple fleshed sweet potato with the dose of 8 g / 200 g bw/day, and the treatment 2 (P2) group was treated with cigarette smoke exposure and purple fleshed sweet potato with the dose of 8 g /200 g bw/day. Results: There was a significant difference of SOD levels in each group (p=0.00) except between group K- and P1. Giving purple fleshed sweet potatoes increased SOD levels as much as 85.81±4.59 (P1). The K+ group had the lowest SOD level 22.34±3.98. The SOD level for K- group and P2 group was 82.27±4.59 and 67.73±6.68 respectively. Conclusion : The highest SOD level is on the treatment 1 group which is administered with purple fleshed sweet potato.

Low temperature synthesis process of Li4Ti5O12 nanowire is successfully performed by hydrothermal method at temperature 100 °C with holding time for 18, 24 and 30 h. XRD results show the presence of two phases are Li4Ti5O12 and TiO2. The morphology of Li4Ti5O12 nanowire is clearly observed by SEM with the length nanowire of 1.391–5.865 μm, and diameter of 19.43–97.14 nm. The Li4Ti5O12 with holding time of 24 h has the highest specific discharge capacity of 66.287 mAh/g. While the capacity decrease of 3.22% after 30 cycle. It is attributed to the largest surface area enhancing smallest diffusion path for Li+ ion. Furthermore, the dual-phase Li4Ti5O12–Ti12 with holding time of 24 h has the most excellent conductivity due to the low of charge-transfer resistance. Therefore, the Li4Ti5O12 nanowire can be a promising material as anode for lithium-ion batteries.

Background: Endodontic irrigation with 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) solution using single side-vented and double side-vented needles is commonly used. Surfactant is added to reduce high surface tension of the NaOCl solution. Apical vapor lock, or air entrapment inside closed-end root canal system, lowers the efficacy of irrigants. Thus, the irrigants are hindered in penetrating the root canal system and can lead to risk of reinfection. Objective: The objective is to analyze the difference of 5.25% NaOCl solution with and without surfactant using two types of irrigation needle in the formation of apical vapor lock. Methods: Forty lower premolars were prepared and randomly divided into four groups (n = 10 per group) then irrigated with 5.25% NaOCl solution with and without surfactant using a single side-vented or double side-vented needle. Contrast medium was added so that the measurement of the apical vapor lock could be performed using a digital radiograph. Analysis was done with two-way analysis of variance and the Tukey method. Results: 5.25% NaOCl solution with a single side-vented needle showed a significant difference from 5.25% NaOCl solution with a double side-vented needle. 5.25% NaOCl solution with a surfactant using a single side-vented needle showed a significant difference from 5.25% NaOCl solution using a double side-vented needle, likewise NaOCl 5.25% using double side-vented needle group from NaOCl 5.25% with surfactant using single side-vented needle group. Conclusion: Minimal formation of an apical vapor lock resulted from the use of 5.25% NaOCl solution with a surfactant using a single side-vented needle.

Selection of Compositions of Growth Medium and Carriers for Formulation of Biological Agents of Non-Pathogenic Fusarium oxysporum P21aThe potency of non-pathogenic Fusarium oxysporum P21a (NPFo P21a) as a biological control agent has prospect to be developed commercially. The growth medium and carrier are the critical factor to formulate biological control. This study aimed to obtain the best solid medium dan lighting type for mycelium growth and sporulation as well as to determine the carrier and storage temperature which is suitable for NPFo P21a toward the survival of propagule and germination of shallot. The results showed that M2 medium treatment (rice grain:rice bran; 20:1 w/w) was the best medium for mycelium growth. The M3 medium treatment (20:2 w/w) was the best medium for sporulation of NPFo P21a. The near-UV lighting treatment was able to stimulate the macroconidium production of NPFo P21a. Talc-based formulation and the storage at 20 °C showed the best shelf-life for NPFo P21a with density of viable propagule and shallot germination better.

Pemupukan anorganik pada sistem budidaya pertanian menimbulkan beberapa masalah, antara lain biaya produksi meningkat, pendapatan petani menurun, tanah menjadi keras dan tidak subur, serta mencemari lingkungan. Karena itu, perlu ada upaya untuk menemukan sumber bahan baku pupuk yang mudah didapat, murah dn ramah lingkungan. Beberapa peneliti sebelumnya melaporkan bahwa rumput laut mengandung fitohormon dan elemen essensial yang dapat merangsang pertumbuhan dan hasil tanaman. Artikel ini melaporkan pengaruh ekstrak cair dan padat Sargassum aquifolium terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil tanaman mentimun. Ekstrak cair dan padat alga tersebut diperoleh dengan metode Godlewska et al., 2016. Ekstrak cair (10%) disemprotkan satu kali seminggu selama pertumbuhan vegetatif. Ekstrak padat (5%) diberikan pada media tanah saat tanam. Ekstrak cair secara signifikan mempengaruhi sebagian besar parameter pertumbuhan (tinggi tanaman, jumlah cabang dan berat kering tunas) dan pertumbuhan generatif (jumlah dan berat buah per tanaman), namun ekstrak cair tersebut tidak secara signifikan mempengaruhi berat kering akar. Fenomena serupa juga ditemukan pada pengaruh ekstrak padat terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil tanaman mentimun. Hasil penelitian ini memberikan indikasi bahwa ekstrak cair yang dilaporkan mengandung fitohormon, dan ekstrak padat yang mengandung elemen essensial dapat dikembangkan sebagai “biostimulan” dan “biofertlizer” organik yang dapat memacu pertumbuhan dan produksi tanaman.Kata kunci : ekstrak cair, ekstrak padat, Sargassum quifolium, pertumbuhan, hasil, tanaman mentimun.Abstract : Aplication of inorganic fertilizer in agriculture cultivation system causes some disadventages, such as increase cost production, reduce farmer’s income and soil fertility, and hqrm our environment. Therefore, it is needed to find out raw materials for fertilizer which easy to obtain, cheap and adaptive to our environment. Previous researchres reported that seaweed contained plant growth hormones and essential elements stimuliting growth and yield of plants. This article reports effect of liquid and solid extracts of Sargassum aquifolium on growth and yield of cucumber plants. Liquid and solid extracts were obtained according to modified Godlewska method (2016). Liquid extract (10%) was sprayed once a week during vegetative growth. Moreover, solid extract (5%) was applied in plant media. Liquid extract influenced significantly most growth parameters, such as plant height, branch number, shoot dry weight and yield parameters like fruit number and fruit weight per plant, but liquid extract did not significantly affect root dry weight. Similar phenomena was also found on the effect of solid extract on growth and yield of cucumber plants. The results suggest that liquid and solid extracts containg plant growth hormones and essential element respectively, could be developed as organic biostimulant and biofertilizer inducing growth and plant production.Keywords : liquid extract, solid extract, Sargassum quifolium, growth, yield, cucumber plants.ÂÂ

Introduction: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been known to have angiogenic potency, particularly for wound healing. However, it is such a cumbersome procedure to obtain a large amount of MSCs due to the culture process. The stromal vascular fraction (SVF), or so called nonexpanded MSCs, of adipose tissue is gaining increased interest in the field of cell therapy. An optimized method that takes only 2 hours to produce a large amount of stromal cells from adipose tissue has been developed. Burn wound model was used to assess the efficacy of SVF produced by our method. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of SVF compared to MSCs. Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats with second degree burn wound were divided into the study groups: SVF, MSCs and saline control. The wound was photographed and evaluated weekly up to 5 weeks. The comparative analysis consisted of healing time, histology of skin tissue, as well as rat and human vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression. Results: In this study, wounds treated with SVF and MSCs were smaller after 14-21 days, compared to the untreated group. Expression of rat VEGF in SVF and MSC- treated groups after seven days post-wounded were also higher than the untreated group. No human VEGF was found expressed in the skin biopsies. Conclusion: This suggests that SVF and MSCs promote wound healing via a paracrine effect. The results suggest that SVF may be useful for wound healing and may be used as a promising alternative to MSC-based therapy.

This research was carried out in the oil palm plantation of PT. MuliaSawitAgro Lestari (PT. MSAL) Gunung Mas Regency Central Kalimantan Province for three months starting in January 2019 until March 2019. The purpose of this study was to identify the potential of microorganisms as biofertilizers from palm oil mill effluent (PKS). This research is an exploratory study conducted in the Laboratory of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Muhammadiyah University of Palangka Raya. This study used 3 (three) media used to identify the potential of microorganisms for biofertilizer from palm oil liquid waste by calculating the number of bacterial colonies namely Carboxy Methyl Cellulose (CMC), pykovskaya media and Yeast Extract Mannitol Agar (Yema) media. The results of the analysis also showed that PKS liquid waste contained potential microorganisms found were phosphate solvent bacteria, cellulite fungi and nitrogen-fixing bacteria with an average bacterial colony of 1,700,000 cells/mL. Potential microorganisms from the proportion obtained showed the ability of bacteria found in PKS liquid waste to degrade the oil. The first and second samples of bacterial forms identified were in the form of bacilli and were gram-positive bacteria, while the samples of the three bacteria were in the form of coccus and the bacteria were gram-negative bacteria.

An alternative sensor that can be used to monitor Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) levels in the air is an electrochemical sensor type such as Sodium Super Ionic Conductor (NASICON). In this study titanium doping on zirconium was carried out to improve the electrical conductivity of NASICON. This material was synthesized using the solid state method by mixing sodium carbonate, silicon dioxide, zirconium oxide, ammonium dihydrogen phosphate, titanium dioxide and some anhydrous ethanol into the Ballmill for 12 hours, dried at 80 °C for 12 hours then calcined at 1125 °C for 12 hours with heating rate of 2 °C.min-1. Then the material was pressed at 160 MPa to produce pellets with diameter of 10 mm and the sintering process was carried out at 1175 °C for 12 hours at a speed of 1 °C.min-1. The doping of Titanium was varied from 0 to 6 mol%. The XRD characterization results indicate that the formed material phase was monoclinic phase and rhombohedral phase. The most optimal electrical conductivity of 5.897x10-5 S.cm-1 was obtained by Titanium doping of 6 mol%.

Li4Ti5O12/C has been successfully synthesized by a solid-state reaction method of Li2CO3 and TiO2 followed by direct flaming of acetylene gas. Li4Ti5O12 with 2-h milling time is indexed as single-phase crystal structure of Li4Ti5O12 (JCPDS 04-0477). The SEM results show particle sizes between 0.192 and 0.360 μm with a spherical shape, but there is agglomeration due to high temperature when the direct flaming of acetylene gas process is applied. The desired carbon content by direct flaming of acetylene gas is still very low at 0.6% for 10 min and 0.9% for 20 min. Li4Ti5O12 with 10 min of direct flaming of acetylene gas has the highest specific discharge capacity of 210.61 mAh/g. This is attributed to the pure single phase and the higher conductivity of the sample. This result shows that Li4Ti5O12/C synthesized by ball milling and direct flaming of acetylene gas could be a good candidate as anode for lithium-ion battery.

Aedes albopictus dilaporkan memiliki potensi yang besar untuk menyebarkan virus dengue penyebab DBD di Indonesia. Habitat yang beragam di area terbuka serta area distribusi yang luas menjadikan jenis ini cenderung sulit dikendalikan, padahal pengendalian jumlah populasi nyamuk vektor menjadi salah satu tindakan preventif terbaik untuk mencegah meluasnya penyebaran virus dengue. Pengendalian vektor dilakukan dengan memutus siklus hidupnya pada fase larva dengan larvasida sehingga jumlah populasi dapat terkendali, namun, penggunaan larvasida masih didominasi oleh produk dengan bahan dasar senyawa kimia yang dapat menimbulkan resistensi pada vektor target, mencemari lingkungan, dan memiliki resiko toksik terhadap organisme non-target, seperti manusia dan hewan lainnya. Berdasarkan fakta tersebut, studi ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis potensi senyawa bioaktif pada sirsak (Annona muricata) untuk dikembangkan sebagai larvasida alami pengendali jumlah populasi Ae. Albopictus. Ekstrak A. muricata telah banyak diteliti dan terbukti memiliki kandungan senyawa bioaktif seperti acetogenin, alkaloid, dan flvonoid yang bersifat toksik bagi serangga. Banyak penelitian telah membuktikan bahwa ekstrak senyawa bioaktif dari A. muricata efektif sebagai larvasida untuk serangga famili Culicidae, termasuk Ae. aegypti dan Culex quinquefasciatus. Lebih baiknya jika ada data kuantitatif bukti efektif. Hasil tersebut menunjukkan adanya potensi ekstrak A. muricata juga bersifat toksik bagi anggota Culicidae yang lain, yaitu Ae. albopictus.

Objective To investigate pregnancy-related disease activity in a contemporary multiple sclerosis (MS) cohort. Methods Data were obtained from the MSBase Registry. Term/preterm pregnancies conceived from 2011-2019 were included (modern cohort). Annualised relapse rates (ARR) were calculated before, during and after pregnancy. Predictors of intrapartum and early postpartum (1st3 months) relapse were determined by clustered logistic and Cox regression analyses, respectively. Results We included 1640 pregnancies from 1452 women. Disease-modifying therapy (DMT) used in the one-year preconception included natalizumab (n=219), fingolimod (n=147), dimethyl fumarate (DMF; n=57) and low-efficacy therapies (n=845). Preconception ARR by DMT class used before conception were: natalizumab, 0.29 (95% CI 0.22-0.37); fingolimod, 0.37 (0.28-0.49); DMF, 0.24 (0.13-0.41); low-efficacy, 0.29 (0.25-0.33); and none, 0.24 (0.19-0.31). Among women who used fingolimod or natalizumab, ARR increased during pregnancy. Intrapartum ARR decreased in preconception DMF, low-efficacy or no DMT groups. ARR spiked after delivery across all DMT groups. Natalizumab continuation into pregnancy reduced the odds of relapse during pregnancy (OR 0.76 per month [0.60-0.95], p=0.017). DMT re-initiation with natalizumab protected against postpartum relapse (HR 0.11 [0.04-0.32], p Conclusion Women with MS prescribed natalizumab or fingolimod preconception had higher rates of intrapartum and postpartum relapse. In women considered to be at high relapse risk, use of natalizumab before pregnancy and continued up to 32-34 weeks gestation, with early re-initiation after delivery is an effective option to minimise relapse risks. Strategies of DMT use have to be balanced against potential foetal/neonatal complications.

Bacteria of the genus Lactobacillus have been employed in food fermentation for decades. Fermented dairy products, such as cheese and yogurt, are products of high value known as functional food and widely consumed due to their positive health impact. Fermentation was originally based on conversion of carbohydrate into organic acids, mostly lactic acid, intended to preserve nutrient in milk, but then it develops in other disclosure of capabilities associates with health benefit. It is expected that during the manufacture of fermented dairy products, some bioactive peptides from milk protein are released through proteolysis. Lactobacilli have been recognized and received increasing attention as probiotics by balancing gut microbial population. Information of molecular mechanisms of genome sequence focusing on the microbial that normally inhabit gut may explain as to how these bacteria positively give impact on improving host health. Recent post-biotics concept revealed that health benefit can also be associated after bacterial lysis. This mini review focuses on the contribution of lactobacilli in dairy fermentation with health-promoting properties on human health.

Background: Periodontitis is aninflammatory disease of tooth-supporting tissue, caused by the bacterium suchas Porphyromonas gingivalis. Inflammation that not treated can lead toresorption of alveolar bone. It is suggested that supportive medicines areneeded to regenerate bone, one of them is lemuru fish oil gel (Sardinella longiceps). Lemuru fish oil can act as an immunomodulator and anti-bacterium.Flavonoid content in fish oil plays a role to inhibit lipid peroxidation so itis effective in killing bacteria that can reduce LPS production. The content ofeicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in lemuru fish oillead to modulate IL-10, inhibition the production of pro-inflammatory cytokinessuch as interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 β), prostaglandin-E2 (PGE2), tumor necrosisfactor alfa (TNFα) that will decrease receptor activator of nuclear factorkappa-Β - ligand (RANK-RANKL) band and result is increased osteoblast,decreased osteoclasts number which speeds up the bone regeneration process Objective: To determine the effect oftopically applying lemuru fish oil in on periodontal Wistar Rats afterinduction of Periodontitis with P.gingivalis bacteria. Materials and methods: Experimental researchlaboratories with post-test only control group design. Samples of 25 maleWistar rats divided into 5 groups. K- (no induction), K (induced with P.gingivalis), P1 (induced with P. gingivalis and 10% lemuru oil gel therapy), P2(induced with P. gingivalis and 20% lemuru fish oil gel therapy), P3 (inducedwith P. gingivalis and 40% lemuru oilgel therapy). Induction of the bacterium P.gingivalis was carried out, then thelemuru fish oil gel was given to gingival sulcus for 14 days. Observations weremade by calculating osteoblast and osteoclast cells in histology samples usingHE (Hematoxylin Eosin). Results: The LSD statistictest showed a significant difference between the P. gingivalis induction groupwith no treatment and treatment group using lemuru fish oil. The treatmentusing lemuru fish oil gel can increase the number of osteoblasts and decreasethe number of osteoclast to the induction of P.gingivalis bacteria, with themost effective number of osteoblasts found in P2 group with a concentration of20% lemuru fish oil gel therapy. Bakterinin indüksiyonuP.gingivalis yapıldı ve daha sonra lemuru balık yağı jeli, 14 gün boyuncagingival sulkusa sürüldü. Hematoksilen Eosin(HE) boyası ile histolojiörneklerinde osteoblast ve osteoklast hücreleri hesaplanarak gözlemler yapıldı.Bulgular: LSD istatistik testi lemuru balıkyağı kullanılarak tedavi ve tedavi grubu olmayan P.gingivalis indüksiyon grubuarasında anlamlı bir fark gösterdi. Lemuru balık yağı jeli kullanılarak yapılanmuamele, osteoblast sayısını artırabilir ve P2 grubunda% 20 lemuru balık yağıjeli terapisi en etkili osteoblast sayısı vermiş ve osteoklast sayısınıazaltabildiği gösterilmiştir. Sonuç: Topikal Lemuru Balık yağı jeli,P.gingivalis ile indüklenen periodontitlerde alveoler kemik rejenerasyontedavisi olarak kullanılabilir.

The objectives of this study was to determine the half maximum inhibitory concentration (IC50) from four types of Parkia speciosa peel extracts (ethanol, methanol, n-hexane, and aqueous) through DPPH free radical inhibition. First Parkia’s peel extract made by drying the Parkia’s peel that has been sorted, then crushed and mashed with a blender. Parkia’s powder then macerated for 3 replication using each type of solvent and then solvent evaporation was carried out using a rotary vacuum evaporator. The evaporated extract produced then tested for antioxidant activity using the IC50 method and phytochemical screening was performed to analyze the potential content of functional compounds. The results showed that all types of solvents dissolve alkaloid compounds (except water extract), flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and phenols. IC50 values produced from the four types of petai bark extract using methanol, ethanol, water, and n-hexane solvents sequentially were 76.92; 111; 136; and 201 ppm. Methanol extract had the lowest IC50 value of 76.92 ppm which resulted that the methanol extract of petai skin had a strong (active) antioxidant strength compared to others.Keywords: Antioxidant, Exctract, Parkia’s peel, IC50

The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in December 2019 in China, has become a pandemic in March 2020. Repurposing old and relatively safe drugs becomes an advantageous option to obtain the urgently needed effective treatment. Repurposing chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine, oseltamivir, lopinavir/ritonavir, andfavipiravir, and the use of investigational drug remdesivir for treatment of COVID-19, are reviewed from the clinical pharmacology perspective, particularly its efficacy and safety. Limited clinical studies of chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine, favipiravir, and remdesivir showed some efficacy in COVID-19 treatment with tolerable adverse effects. Potential serious adverse effect of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine is cardiac arrhythmia. Oseltamivir has no documented activity against SARS-CoV-2, while lopinavir/ritonavir showed limited efficacy in COVID-19. Currently, there is no sufficient evidence to recommend any specific anti-COVID-19 treatment. The decision to use these drugs during the COVID-19 pandemic must be based on careful consideration of the potential benefits and risks to the patient.

Introduction: Hyperglycemia in diabetic patients induces elevated pro-inflammatory cytokine production, resulting in cellular damage, which may affect the regenerative function of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), such as adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs). Identifying the effect of diabetes on ADSCs and optimization of culture conditions is therefore an important starting point for the application of autologous stem cells to improve clinicial outcomes. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of diabetes on ADSCs that cultured in low-glucose anti-oxidant-serum supplemented medium. Methods: In this study, freshly isolated stromal vascular fraction (SVF) and expanded ADSCs were compared between diabetic and non-diabetic donors. SVF were isolated from the abdominal fat, and total viable cells and viability were estimated. Fresh SVF were cultured in low-glucose (100 mg/dL) culture medium supplemented with an anti-oxidant and fetal bovine serum (complete culture medium) at a low density for 14 days for the colony formation unit-fibroblast (CFU-F) assay. The remaining SVF were expanded to obtain ADSCs in the complete culture medium, which were evaluated based on MSCs surface marker expression and three lineage differentiation potential. Diabetic and non-diabetic ADSCs were compared with respect to population doubling time and viability after serial passage. Results: Total viable counts (0.97 +/- 0.39 x 109 cells/10 mL of adipose tissue, 0.56 +/- 0.39 x 109 cells/10 mL of adipose tissue, p=0.02, independent t-test), but not viability (98.63 +/- 1.12%, 98.20 +/- 1.21%, p= 0.38, independent t-test), were significantly higher for SVF cells from adipose tissues of non-diabetic donors than diabetic donors. Fewer CFU-F were obtained from cultured diabetic SVF than from non-diabetic SVF. Diabetic and non-diabetic ADSCs had similar differentiation potency and CD73 (99.44 +/- 0.34%, 97.15 +/- 5.37%, p= 0.21, Mann-Whitney U test) and CD90 (97.30 +/- 2.86%, 95.06 +/- 6.32%, p= 0.90, Mann- Whitney U test) expression, but significantly fewer diabetic ADSCs expressed CD105 or endoglin, a marker for angiogenesis (89.91 +/- 7.14%, 57.90 +/- 21.36% for non-diabetic and diabetic groups, p< 0.001, Mann-Whitney U test). Diabetic ADSCs tended to exhibit slower proliferation (4.43 +/- 2.70 days, 3.04 +/- 0.55 days, p= 0.27 in passage 2 (P2); 3.95 +/- 1.55 days, 2.96 +/- 0.91 days, p= 0.21 in P3, independent t-test) and lower viability than those of non-diabetic ADSCs (77.65 +/- 10.61%, 87.13 +/- 10.06%, p= 0.25 in P2; 82.70 +/- 8.07%, 91.15 +/- 3.77%, p= 0.04 in P3, independent t-test). Culture in low-glucose anti-oxidant-serum supplemented medium did not improve CD105 expression (65.14 +/- 5.86%, 71.06 +/- 10.27%, 64.05 +/- 10.04%, p= 0.70, for P1, P2, and P3, respectively, repeated measure ANOVA) and cell proliferation (p= 0.50 for P2 vs. P3, paired t-test) of diabetic ADSCs. Conclusions: Overall, diabetes reduced CD105 expression and ADSCs proliferation, suggesting that the angiogenic potency of diabetic ADSCs is reduced. The diabetic ADSCs in this study were also more prone to cell death caused by handling technique compared to non-diabetic ADSCs. Therefore, more advanced culture techniques should be applied to expand ADSCs from diabetic patients to achieve expected clinical outcomes.

This research studied the changes of protein and amino acid profile in mung bean during soaking. The whole mung bean seeds were subjected to five different treatments of soaking, without soaking (control), with soaking for 2, 4, 6 and 8 hrs. Crude protein content, soluble protein content and amino acid profile of the mung beans were analyzed. The results showed that crude protein content of mung bean without soaking (26.64% db) was higher than those of soaked mung beans (in a range of 23.52-25.33%). The results indicated that the crude protein contents were significantly different among the different soaking times. The soluble protein contents tend to increase during soaking treatment and be optimal on 6 hrs soaking time. The amino acids profile showed a trend increasing up to 6 hrs soaking time. Based on these results, the suggested soaking time was 6 hrs. Those findings of amino acids profile, crude protein and soluble protein contents revealed that the soaked mung beans were potential as a good and inexpensive source of protein for breastfeeding women, especially in combination with rice which is the staple food of most of the Indonesian people.

Processing figs into food and beverage products will increase the attractiveness to consume this nutrient-rich fruit. One of them is by processing it into syrup. The purpose of this study is to (1) Knowing the effect of the stevia sugar concentration on the physical and chemical characteristics of fig syrup; (2) Knowing the effect of the carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) concentration on the physical and chemical characteristics of fig syrup. The experimental design used in this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) factorial pattern with two treatment factors, namely the concentration of stevia sugar (A) with four types of treatment levels, A1 = 0% (100% sucrose); A2 = 1%; A3 = 2%; A4 = 3%. Concentration of CMC (B) with three types of treatment, B1 = CMC 0%; B2 = CMC 0.25%; B3 = CMC 0.5%. Each treatment was repeated twice to obtain 4 x 3 x 2 = 24 experimental units. The results show the brightest color produced by 100% sucrose with CMC 0% which is equal to 36.24 (L). The highest sugar content was produced in syrup with the addition of stevia 3% and CMC 0% which amounted to 34.46%. The highest viscosity is produced in syrup with the addition of 100% sucrose and CMC 0.5% which is equal to 365.2 cP.)
