We report the draft genome sequence of linezolid-resistant Enterococcus faecalis strain HS-0914 isolated from a teaching hospital in Shanghai, China. The draft genome sequence is composed of 61 contigs for 2,816,079 bp. Ribosomal RNA mutations and cfr , which mediates linezolid resistance, are not present.

Abstract

The γ-radiation combined with hydrothermal treatment method has been successfully used to prepare pure nanocrystalline silver powders from silver nitrate aqueous solutions. Electron microscopy and X-ray powder diffraction techniques show that the average particle size of the prepared silver powder is about 8 nm. Influences of experimental conditions on silver particle size are discussed.

Abstract

Four compounds in the FeSr2(LnCe)2Cu2Oy (LnY, Nd, Sm, Dy) system have been prepared and characterized. The structure of the compounds is found to be the same as that of the Ti-, Pb-, Cu- and Ta-1222 phases. Typical cell parameters are obtained as a=3.833 A and c=28.157 A for the sample with Ln=Dy, with a body-centred lattice and space group I4/mmm. Long-range magnetic order has not been detected by Mossbauer spectroscopy at room temperature.

Abstract

Nanometer-size amorphous Cr2O3 powder with an average particle size of 6 nm has been prepared successfully by the γ-radiation method at room temperature from the solution containing Cr2O72− ions. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) shows that the crystallization temperature of amorphous Cr2O3 powder is about 300 °C. After heat treatment under vacuum at 500 °C for 44 h, amorphous Cr2O3 transformed to crystalline Cr2O3 with an average particle size of 15 nm. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

Ultrafine powder of the Ag-Cu alloy with average particle size or 25 nm has been prepared successfully by the γ-radiation method from the solution containing Ag(NH3)42+ complex ions. The copper content in the Ag-Cu alloy is 9.44 wt.%. The method can be processed under ambient pressure at room temperature.

Abstract

Salvia miltiorrhiza is an important medicinal plant with great economic and medicinal value. The complete chloroplast (cp) genome sequence of Salvia miltiorrhiza, the first sequenced member of the Lamiaceae family, is reported here. The genome is 151,328 bp in length and exhibits a typical quadripartite structure of the large (LSC, 82,695 bp) and small (SSC, 17,555 bp) single-copy regions, separated by a pair of inverted repeats (IRs, 25,539 bp). It contains 114 unique genes, including 80 protein-coding genes, 30 tRNAs and four rRNAs. The genome structure, gene order, GC content and codon usage are similar to the typical angiosperm cp genomes. Four forward, three inverted and seven tandem repeats were detected in the Salvia miltiorrhiza cp genome. Simple sequence repeat (SSR) analysis among the 30 asterid cp genomes revealed that most SSRs are AT-rich, which contribute to the overall AT richness of these cp genomes. Additionally, fewer SSRs are distributed in the protein-coding sequences compared to the non-coding regions, indicating an uneven distribution of SSRs within the cp genomes. Entire cp genome comparison of Salvia miltiorrhiza and three other Lamiales cp genomes showed a high degree of sequence similarity and a relatively high divergence of intergenic spacers. Sequence divergence analysis discovered the ten most divergent and ten most conserved genes as well as their length variation, which will be helpful for phylogenetic studies in asterids. Our analysis also supports that both regional and functional constraints affect gene sequence evolution. Further, phylogenetic analysis demonstrated a sister relationship between Salvia miltiorrhiza and Sesamum indicum. The complete cp genome sequence of Salvia miltiorrhiza reported in this paper will facilitate population, phylogenetic and cp genetic engineering studies of this medicinal plant.
