Based on the analysis of the spatial distribution characteristics and influencing factors of 2879 attractions POI in Chengdu, this paper studies the spatial distribution types, spatial concentration, and equilibrium of attractions by using standard deviation ellipse, geographic concentration index, and kernel density estimation. Buffer analysis, near analysis, correlation analysis, and grey relation analysis are used to study the influencing factors of tourism in Chengdu. The results show that: (1) The overall attractions POI in Chengdu is in an east–west direction, and except for other types of attractions POI, the remaining types are also in an east–west direction. (2) The spatial agglomeration areas of different types of attractions POI in Chengdu were quite different. Among them, parks and city squares were mainly concentrated in the central urban areas, namely Jinjiang, Qingyang, Jinniu, Wuhou, and Chenghua, forming a prominent gathering area. (3) There were differences in the influence degree of each factor on the spatial distribution of attractions POI. Topography and drainage, transportation, tourist source market, and other factors significantly correlated with the distribution of attractions, which were the main factors affecting the spatial distribution of attractions. Industrial development and economic population were also important factors affecting the distribution of attractions. Tourism is an important thrust for urban development. The study of the spatial distribution of tourism and its influencing factors has clear guiding significance for later tourism development, which can help optimize the integration of tourism resources, promote the cooperation of regional tourism development and provide a basis for decision-making for tourism development. Place names that contain rich regional cultural connotations are "living fossils" of history and culture, and they are of great tourist value. Taking the main urban area of Chengdu City as an example, this paper analyzes the cultural characteristics and connotations of place names, as well as their tourist values. This value is believed to mainly include stimulating tourists' interest in traveling, presenting local tourism features, enhancing the travel experience of the visitors and serving the tourism economy. Then this paper discusses the problems of place name cultural heritage and puts forward the tourism development strategies for Chengdu's place name culture. Such strategies could include establishing a tourism place name system of Chengdu scenic spot names, using place names in the restoration and development of ancient scenery, combining place names with food tourism resources and high-quality tourism commodities, developing cultural and creative products related to Chengdu place names, strengthening the theoretical discussion on Chengdu place name culture and conducting dissemination activities for Chengdu place name culture. The rapid development of megacities has greatly impacted land use in the urban–rural fringe area. The Western Protected Area defined by Chengdu's Master Plan (2016–2035) to end the unrestrained urban sprawl, where locates the most superior agricultural and ecological resources, namely Mount Qingcheng and the Dujiangyan Essence Irrigation District, is facing great challenges when implementing protective strategies, related to huge land use competition caused by land multi-functionality. To better assess and understand land-use conflict and its influence, this paper constructs a comprehensive evaluation model with 'multi-functionality and landscape complexity' based on existing research, with a 1 km × 1 km spatial resolution, and analyzes its relationship with land-use and land-cover (LULC) change, based on 30 m land resolution data from 2000, 2010, and 2020, produced by the Institute of Resource and Environmental Science and the Data Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Overall, two kinds of land-use conflict concerning function suitability and landscape pattern co-emerge spatially, but there also exist "high-low" combinations. The result shows that land consolidation or the adjustment of land use might take place more often when both the suitability conflict and the landscape conflict reach a certain threshold. The results provide enlightenment for further expanding the quantitative research on land-use conflict and confirm the potential of applying the land-use conflict index in delineating territorial spatial planning control areas. Chengdu has experienced a rapid urbanization in the past two decades, and its land spatial pattern has undergone severe changes. It's meaningful to investigate the tempo-spatial evolution of land spatial pattern and then contribute to high-quality development in Chengdu. Based on the Landsat-series satellite imagery and land use/cover datasets, this paper investigates Chengdu's land function change concerning Production, Living and Ecological (PLE) land. The methods of land dynamics degree, landscape pattern index and Pearson correlation were be employed to analyzes the tempo-spatial evolution of landscape pattern in Chengdu, and some suggestions were finally made. We found that there were severe dynamic degree of PLE land in Chengdu and the production and ecological land were decrease obviously before 2015. Contrastingly, the dynamic degree is decrease after 2015, high dynamic degree regions are move to the northeast from 2000–2019. In addition, the change of production land is the main factor affecting the landscape pattern of Chengdu. In general, we put forward the macroscopic strategy and suggestions of "one core, two belts, four regions, and one direction" to support the high-quality development of Chengdu. Both academics and policymakers regard publicly planned logistics nodes (PPLN) as a potential measure to promote logistics agglomeration and mitigate environmental damage caused by logistics activities. However, such measure may lead to non-linear carbon emission effect from the perspective of agglomeration economy, and empirical evidences are yet to be found to verify this inference. This paper uses DID method and mediating effect models to explore the effects and mechanisms of PPLN on CO2 emissions with panel data from 2000 to 2017 in Chengdu, China. Our findings show that PPLN promotes the agglomeration of both small and large-scale logistics enterprises and increases carbon emissions. In addition, the agglomeration of large-scale logistics enterprises can reduce carbon emissions; the opposite is true for smaller ones. Despite the continuous diminishing of the carbon emission increase, the emission-reduction effect has not been achieved through PPLN operations. Based on the results, the study recommends that the government should appropriately determine the location and scale of PPLN, advocate green construction and industrial upgrading, and adopt differentiated regulatory and incentive measures for enterprises. [Objective] The paper aimed to conduct quantitative calculation and localization research on ecosystem services in Chengdu, to understand the strength, spatial differentiation and impact mechanism of ecosystem services, and to provide policy ideas for the evaluation and supply of ecosystem services in rapidly urbanizing regions. [Method] Based on the gradient space theory, a spatial gradient ring and a spatial gradient transect in Chengdu were established to evaluate the value of ecosystem services, spatial differences and coordination were studied by the evaluation model of ecosystem service value, and coordination degree model in 1990, 2000, 2010 and 2020. [Result] (i) During the study period, the value of ecosystem services in Chengdu decreased by 4.737 billion yuan. (ii) The overall ecosystem service value in Chengdu showed a degrading trend, and the ‘center-periphery’ spatial circle structure radiating from the center to the periphery was obvious, mainly expanding in the southeast (ES) direction, and the northwest (WN) direction was the most stable. (iii) Chengdu has an obvious trend of expanding from the center to the two wings in the north-south direction (S) In the east-west direction (H）, the ecosystem service value gradually declined in the central urban area, rapidly declined in some areas adjacent to the city, and the ecological function areas in the outer suburbs were relatively stable. (iv) From 1990 to 2020, the comprehensive coordination degree (P) on the gradient spatial transect in Chengdu decreased by 2.43. [Conclusion] (i)The value of ecosystem services and comprehensive coordination degree in Chengdu have obvious spatial and temporal differences and significant influence from the expansion of construction land. Digital governance requires the government to transform its ability in dealing with data to the ability in governance, which depends heavily on the change of organizational mechanism. The digital governance pattern with the "integration of data and decision-making" is innovated by the local government in our country. A case study is carried out by taking the practice of digital governance by Chengdu government as the research object and taking the analysis framework in technical execution as the research method in this paper. The research shows that, by establishing a new type of pattern with the "integration of data and decision-making" as its feature, the digital governance by Chengdu government has promoted the transformation of technological value and finally achieved the benign change in the governance ecosystem Besides, this paper analyzes the logical in which data should serve for governance, and draws the conclusion that the transformation from its ability in dealing with data to the ability in governance should be promoted by the dual paths: "data serving governance decision" and "data serving government affairs." Finally, it is proposed that the digital governance pattern with the "integration of data and decision-making" is an evolution on the basis of "Internet plus Government Service", which is, on the one hand, helpful in strengthening social trust and confidence, coordinating behaviour and in promoting the innovative motivation for governance; On the other, there still exist potential risks of debris response and conformal governance. Over the years Li Yinhe's constant efforts to legalize same-sex marriage have drawn public attention to the issues of partnership and family lives of lesbians and gay men, however, this topic is still rarely studied in the academia in China. Using in-depth interviews and participant observation, the current field study of the tongzhi community in Chengdu carefully examined the partnership and family practice of gay couples in which they were pursuing an egalitarian partnership, reflecting on the current marriage institution and struggling for social recognition. The paper reviews the theoretical perspectives on "peer relationship" and "queer family". The literature has indicated that the emergence and development of same-sex partnership was a product of the vast social change in the past century which had profoundly transformed intimate relationship and family life. The paper also reviews the recent empirical studies that have corrected some deep-rooted, rigid stereotypes of lesbians and gay men, thus having given them legitimacy to same-sex relationship in society. Moving to the Chinese context, the authors first trace the transformed meaning of homosexual partnership from one type of extramarital affair outside the heterosexual marriage to a new kind of committed relationship for both partners. Behind this transformation, both historical tradition of homosexuality and contemporary sexual revolution in Chinese society are important factors. They also create new tensions that have deeply shaped the life choice of individual participants. Still far from being a common practice in Chengdu's gay community, the long-term and exclusive homosexual partnership has nevertheless increasingly become the ideal relationship model sought after by most gay men. It is the increasing individual autonomy driven by free labor market and the privatization of housing that has laid out the structural foundation for this kind of new intimate relationship between men. Without any existing relationship model to follow, research participants in gay couple relationship have to constantly construct their own way of life in which they reflect on the heterosexual marriage institution on the one hand, and invent new discourses and norms to guide their relationship on the other hand. It is worth noting that the agency of these pioneers plays a significant role in constructing new life experiences in face of all kinds of structural constrains. Because gay partnership has yet legally recognized, it is crucial for gay couples to seek other forms of social support to work out a long and stable relationship. The paper also documents a variety of strategies employed by gay couples in their daily life to win the informal recognition from families, neighbors and workplaces. In conclusion, same-sex relationship in today's China is undergoing transformation driven by the rapid social change in Chinese society. Homosexual partnership has gradually separated from the dominant heterosexual kinship system and become an alternative but independent relationship model and family arrangement. Borrowing from the perspective of queer families and highlighting the agency embodied in our informants' life practices, the authors discuss the implication of same-sex partnership to the mainstream society and further advocate more institutional recognition of such grassroots practices. Architectural heritage is an important cultural resource in the city, and its macroscopic spatial pattern and accessibility are important for the conservation of architectural heritage and the development of heritage tourism. This paper explores the spatial pattern and accessibility of architectural heritage in Chengdu by using spatial analysis of 308 declared national, provincial, and municipal cultural relic protection units in Chengdu as the object of architectural heritage research. The results showed that: (1) The distribution of architectural heritage was generally clustered, and the clustering areas of various types of architectural heritage differ significantly, with architectural heritage mainly concentrated in the central urban areas; (2) The integration value of various road networks connecting architectural heritage in the central urban area were significantly better than those in other areas; (3) The transportation accessibility index of architectural heritage in the central urban areas was higher, while the transportation accessibility index of architectural heritage in the surrounding areas was lower. The concept of neoliberalisation is increasingly applied to China to explain its unprecedented urban transformation. This paper argues against fitting China into a prototype neoliberal model. Instead it proposes a fresh interpretation of its urban planning particularities within a continuity-contestation framework, embodied in the context, governance and practice of planning. Chengdu, the gateway in West China, is chosen as a case study to illustrate this framework. Analysing the successive city Master Plans of Chengdu, it was found that there was a strong path dependency in Chengdu's plan-making process. Yet contestations from the planning context and planning practice pressured for planning transformation. Interestingly, inconsistencies within its Master Plans sometimes worked in line with the market and mediated the conflicts between plan-led and market-led development logics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With the rapid expansion of cities, the construction of 15-minute communities has become an important way to improve the urban living environment and enhance the quality of life of residents. In this study, based on the perspective of a 15-minute community in Chengdu, the current situation of the spatial layout in the 12 main urban districts of 15,941 public service facility points is studied. Additionally, the matching relationship between the supply and demand of five major categories (19 subcategories) of public service facilities and the population is assessed by using the kernel density analysis method, the Gaussian two-step floating catchment area method, the hierarchical analysis method and the bivariate spatial autocorrelation. Finally, suggestions for the optimization of basic service facilities are made in the light of the current development situation in Chengdu. The results show that (1) there is a large spatial heterogeneity in the distribution and accessibility of public service facilities in the study area; (2) there is a mismatch between the supply and demand of public service facilities and the population in Chengdu; and (3) in order to further optimize the allocation of public service facilities, it is necessary to focus first on areas where demand exceeds supply. This study built a framework for assessing the current status of spatial distribution of public service facilities, which measures the 15-minute accessibility of basic public service facilities in a more comprehensive way and bridges the gap of previous single-type studies, which make it difficult to make comprehensive optimization recommendations directly. Meanwhile, the bivariate spatial autocorrelation reveals the areas of mismatch between supply and demand more accurately, and more clearly shows the areas that need to be focused on for optimization by policy makers. Investigating the impact of street visual environments on young adults' emotions is crucial for the promotion of walkable and healthy streets. However, the applicability and accuracy of existing studies are limited by a lack of large-scale sample validation. Moreover, many studies have determined emotions through subjective evaluation methods or relied solely on a single physiological indicator to assess levels of emotional arousal, neglecting the significance of emotional valence. In response, this study aims to enhance our understanding of the emotional impact of street visual environments by employing a method that integrates physiological feedback technology and deep learning. We collected videos of 100 streets from five districts in Chengdu to serve as experimental stimuli, and utilizing physiological feedback technology, we gathered data on electrocardiograms (ECG), electrodermal activity (EDA), and respiratory responses (RESP) from 50 participants as they observed these street environments. Subsequently, we applied deep learning techniques to process the video and physiological data, ultimately obtaining 500 data entries on street visual environment elements and 25,000 data entries on emotional arousal and valence. Additionally, we established multiple linear regression and multinomial logistic regression models to explore the relationship between visual street environments and emotions. The results reveal that elements such as green view factor (GVF), sky view factor (Sky VF), and sidewalk view factor (SVF) not only reduce emotional arousal levels but also facilitate the shift from negative to positive emotions, positively affecting emotional regulation. In contrast, visual enclosure (VE), vehicle view factor (VVF), and person view factor (PVF) are associated with negative emotional arousal, adversely affecting emotional valence. Moreover, the impact of specific visual environmental elements on different emotional states may vary. This study introduces a novel, multidisciplinary approach to accurately quantify the relationship between the environment and emotions, providing significant theoretical and practical insights for the development of healthier cities. This paper describes the development of the participatory budgeting (PB) process in the rural villages and communities of the city of Chengdu in China between 2009 and 2012. During this period, more than 40,000 PB-funded projects were implemented in more than 2,300 communities. These projects addressed the growing divide between urban and rural development and increased security of land use rights, resulting in large improvements in the day-to-day lives of millions of villagers. But PB in Chengdu also introduced democratic changes at the local level through processes of deliberation and greater democratic autonomy for village residents. This paper describes the mechanisms through which PB operated locally, and discusses how the process has differed from other instances of PB in China, as well as its innovations in international terms. Despite its successes, PB in Chengdu faces some challenges, namely its expansion from village to township level, the permanent need for support from the Communist Party at a high level, and insufficient research and evaluation. In the process of urbanization, various urban problems have become increasingly prominent, and the heat island effect is one of them. The expansion of urban land, the increase in construction intensity and the increase in population make the urban heat island effect even worse. The construction of park cities improves the ecological environment of the city and is considered to have a positive effect on alleviating the heat island effect, but it is not clear whether it has such an effect or not. This article explores whether the construction of Park City can help to improve the urban thermal environment effectively, and also, seek solutions for how to improve the construction of park cities so that the heat island effect can be better mitigated. Landsat8 remote sensing images in 2014 and 2019 were used to estimate the fractional vegetation cover (FVC) and land surface temperature (LST) in the Third Ring Road of Chengdu. Land use data were also introduced into the study to analyze LST changes in different surfaces and FVC.The results indicate that: (1) the area of the heat island zone in the Third Ring Road of Chengdu decreased by 0.91% from 2014 to 2019, and the area of the cold island zone increased by 17.89%; (2) the urban blue-green space is conductive to mitigating the urban heat island effect, in which the water provides the best mitigation, while impervious surface and bare land may aggravate the urban heat island effect; (3) the FVC in the area of the Third Ring Road in Chengdu is on the rise as a whole, and there is a significant negative correlation between FVC and LST (p < 0.01). Based on the above results, this paper shows that Park City construction is beneficial to alleviate the urban heat island effect, and more attention should be paid to blue-green space layout and quality, along with urban ventilation and FVC control. Urban green space (UGS) is increasingly recognized as a nature-based solution to achieving urban sustainable development. Under rapid urbanization, greening policies are often the main driving factor behind the restoration or even growth of UGS. In this study, Chengdu, the pioneering "park city" in China, is chosen as a representative region. Based on land use/land cover (LULC) and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) data, indicators that can reflect both UGS quantity and quality are constructed and the spatio-temporal characteristics of UGS in original and expanding urban areas are also explored at different greening policy stages. The findings show that, from 2000 to 2022, the basic trend of UGS reduction during urbanization remained unchanged, despite the greening policies implemented in Chengdu. However, the original urban area has evolved into a new urban area. This has been achieved by integrating the expanded urban area with higher greening rates, resulting in the greening rate in 2022 (44.61%) being restored to the 2000 level (44.21%). The implementation of green policies in Chengdu is primarily reflected in improved UGS quality, especially in the stage of the ecological garden city construction (2008–2018). Specifically, the UGS quality in the original urban area has been improved by 25.25%. Overall, the UGS quality in Chengdu Urban Center has improved, changing from a medium level in 2000 to a medium-high level in 2022. The construction of a national demonstration zone of the park city provides an opportunity for the UGS quantity to increase and quality to improve in Chengdu in the future. However, effectively considering the development positioning of the Tianfu Granary to coordinate the relationship between UGS and high-quality farmland is a huge challenge for urban sustainable development in Chengdu. Park City is a new concept for sustainable urban development. Urban Parks are the core of Park City, where park accessibility is the central index of park services. Previous studies have been conducted primarily from residents' perspective, based on the "O-D" (origin to destination) model to access the park accessibility. However, urban parks should be considered a place supporting the coexistence of tourists and residents. Moreover, tourists' movement patterns differ from those of residents, which are expressed as "no turning back" and traverse circular or nodal routes. Consequently, this paper proposes that the traditional "O-D" model be expanded to be consistent with the movement patterns of tourists. This paper employs Park City Chengdu as an exemplar and proposes a "D-D" (destination to destination) model to facilitate further park accessibility. The calculation process was based on a multiple transportation mode measure with multiple time thresholds, entrances, and exits, supported by Web API. The results reveal the key time nodes and park accessibility rankings for four transportation modes. In particular, the park accessibility presents a "dual-core, several sub-centers and cluster-types" circle structure. Furthermore, the park accessibility in Chengdu was generally balanced, except within 25 min, as well as walking and public transport. Although natural features like mountains and rivers are widely recognised as key factors in developing ancient Chinese urban strategies, their active role in orderly-planned cities on vast plains has rarely been thoroughly examined. Further insight into this topic is critical to comprehending the formation of Chinese mountain-water-city imagery and its physical manifestation. Chengdu, an ancient plain-dwelling city encircled by mountains and rivers from afar, is an ideal example of this inquiry. This article explores the two-millennium history of how the city responded to its natural surroundings and incorporated the landscape imagery into the architectural and urban forms, which includes the alignment of the city's orientation with distant and neighbouring mountains, the construction of waterway networks to emulate surrounding rivers, and the strategic placement of tower-pavilion architecture to integrate with the nature. TOptimization of regional landscape pattern is significant for improving function and value of ecosystem, and restraining the expansion of urban layout. Taking Chengdu City for example, this paper applied RS and GIS techniques, landscape indexes and ecological service function evaluation to further analyze the temporal and spatial characteristics of landscape pattern and spatial differences of regional ecologjcal functions, and on this basis, identified the spatial distribution of ecological source lands. Based on the long-term objective of building Chengdu into a modern garden city, this paper applied the accumulative cost distance model and introduced garden city theory to construct regional ecological corridors and ecological nodes, and explored the approaches of optimizing landscape pattern of modern garden city. The results showed that a great deal of arable land has been transferred to construction land in the urbanization; intensity of regional ecological functions showed obvious spatial differences; ecological source lands were mainly distributed in the Longmen Mountain, the Qionglai Mountain, the Changqiu Mountain and the Longquan Mountain; according to actual conditions of the study area, the road ecologjcal corridors, river corridors and agricultural corridors in the layout of "four rings and six radial corridors" were constructed; ecological nodes dominated by intersection, wetland and forest park were formed. Overall scientific planning of urbanization layout is an important component of the new period of land spatial planning policies. Defining the main functions of different spaces and dividing urban functional areas are of great significance for optimizing the land development pattern. This article identifies and analyses urban functional areas from the perspective of data mining. The results of this method are consistent with the actual situation. In this paper, representative taxi trajectory data are selected as the research basis of urban functional areas. First, based on trajectory data from Didi Chuxing within the high-speed road surrounding Chengdu, we generated trajectory time sequence data and used the dynamic time warping (DTW) algorithm to generate a time series similarity matrix. Second, we utilized the K-medoid clustering algorithm to generate preliminary results of land clustering and selected the results with high classification accuracy as the training samples. Then, the k-nearest neighbour (KNN) classification algorithm based on DTW was performed to classify and identify the urban functional areas. Finally, with the help of point-of-interest (POI) auxiliary analysis, the final functional layout in Chengdu was obtained. The results show that the spatial structure of Chengdu is complex and that the urban functions are interlaced, but there are still rules that are followed. Moreover, traffic volume and inflow data can better reflect the travel rules of residents than simple taxi on–off data. The original DTW calculation method has high temporal complexity, which can be improved by normalization and the reduction of time series dimensionality. The semi-supervised learning classification method is also applicable to trajectory data, and it is best to select training samples from unsupervised learning. This method can provide a theoretical basis for urban land planning and has auxiliary and guiding value for urbanization layout in the context of land spatial planning policies in the new era. [Objective] Eucalyptus globulus, E.grandis and E.robusta are green plants widely cultivated in Chengdu, and this paper aimed to exploit the utilization potential of Eucalyptus resources. [Method] The essential oils from three Eucalyptus species leaves were extracted by using the modified steam-distillation extraction method, and the chemical components were determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry（GC-MS）. The effects of the essential oils on proliferation of human hepatoma cells（SMMC-7721） in vitro was studied by 3-（4, 5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl）-2, 5-diphenyl-2-H-tetrazolium bromide（MTT） assay. [Result] The oil yields of globulus, E.grandis and E.robusta were 3.67 %, 1.21 % and 0.43 %, respectively. The essential oil of E.globulus, E.grandis and E.robusta contains 34, 34 and 31 components. A total of 17 components, such as α-pinene, camphene, limonene, eucalyptol, fenchol, campholenal, borneol, carvone, alloaromadendrene, caryophyllene and o-cymene, were common components of three essential oils. The two main components were α-pinene and eucalyptol in the essential oil of E.globulus, E.grandis and E.robusta, the relative contents of α-pinene were 17.18 %, 17.89%and 41.91%, respectively;The relative contents of eucalyptol were 59.55 %, 50.49 % and 7.68 %, respectively. Three Eucalyptus essential oil significantly inhibited proliferation of human hepatoma SMMC-7721 cells and human normal liver L02 cells.SMMC-7721 cells were more inhibited than L02 by the essential oil of E.robusta, E.grandis and E.Globulus, with half maximal inhibitory concentration(IC50) values of 4.66, 7.36 and 13.53 μg·mL-1 after 24 hours treatments, respectively. The essential oil from E.robusta had a best inhibiting effect on SMMC-7721 cells. [Conclusion] These results indicated that the chemical components and contents of essential oils from different species of Eucalyptus in the same area were different, and the essential oils of Eucalyptus had the potential to be used as antitumor drugs. Prior to the Sino-Japanese War of 1894–1895, arguments for transforming cities' traditional saihui (賽會, 'religious processions') into modern expositions frequently appeared in newspapers, and in 1906, the inland city of Chengdu took the lead in putting this into practice. Unlike expositions in other cities, which were either held at factories or in parks, or put on exhibitions at newly constructed venues, the Chengdu Industrial Exposition was reborn from the Qingyang Palace (青羊宫 Qingyang gong) Flower Fair, which had a long-standing history. Officials began holding industrial expositions at the former site of the Qingyang Palace Flower Fair during the period of the New Policy of the late Qing Dynasty, to revitalize industry and commerce and furthermore in the hopes of achieving the objectives of transforming folk customs and improving society. During the Republican period, the Sichuanese government was controlled by warlords, and the industrial exposition was suspended and reinstated several times, but due to the inertia of folk tradition, the flower fairs were consistently held as they had been before. As a space for temporary public exhibitions in the early modern era, the Qingyang Palace Industrial Exposition not only became a field for the exhibition of and chess games between different wills to power due to the concentration of the city's principal capital forces and agents of power, but furthermore became a focal point for social relationships due to attracting social commentary and a high degree of attention from the media through widespread participation by merchants. From the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic, in the course of officials holding industrial expositions at and promoting the spatial improvement of Qingyang Palace and Erxian Temple, the pulsation of early modern trends of thought, treachery in local politics, the deep roots of traditional customs, and multilateral chess games between social forces surged, engraving the difficult process of the modern metamorphosis, reshaping and growth of a traditional inland city. Changes in land-use, caused by rapid urbanization, lead to changes in the supply and demand for ecosystem services. Significant research has been conducted to investigate the impact of changes in the physical supply of ecosystem services on their value. However, quantifying the effects of simultaneous changes in supply and demand on the scarcity value of ecosystem services can provides a more reasonable assessment of ecosystem services, guiding their sustainable use. Therefore, this paper analyzed the changing trend of ecosystem services value in Chengdu in southwestern China from 1995 to 2015 by adjusting the value coefficients with relative changes in scarcity value. Naïve assessment, without considering the supply and demand effect on scarcity value, quantified a decline in the total value of the physical supply of ecosystem services from 1995 to 2015, with a reduction in the areas of cultivated land and woodland. However, the scarcity value of ecosystem services increased from US$ 6.04 billion in 1995 to US$ 12.03 billion (+99.17%) in 2015, when the effects of changes in supply and demand were considered. In addition, the demand for all the public-good ecosystem services increased during the study period, consistenting with Maslow's hierarchy of need and indicating that the demand structure of residents had changed during the process of urbanization. • The value of physical supply of ecosystem services declines along with the development of urbanization. • The scarcity value of ecosystem services has experienced a dramatically increase. • People's demand structure has changed with the increasing value of all the public-good ecosystem services. • The price elasticity of different ecosystem services is a key factor of scarcity value. This paper focuses on the production and transformation of homosexual identities in Chengdu under the background of Chinese society in transition. From a constructionist perspective, I complicate the identity construction process by examining the interaction of three male homosexual identities found in the local context - piao piao, tongzhi, and gay. While gay men in present-day Chengdu often use piao piao, tongzhi, and gay interchangeably, these terms entail different cultural references and political connotations. I argue that the piao piao identity serves as a critical linkage between the traditional imagination of male homosexuality and the modern gay identities, while the tongzhi identity facilitates the shift of Chinese homosexuality from behavior to identity, and contributes to the development of gay communities in present-day China. As air quality has improved rapidly in recent years, the public has become more interested in whether a famous snow peak, Yaomei Feng on the Tibetan Plateau, can be seen from Chengdu, a megacity located on the western plain of the Sichuan Basin, east of the plateau. Therefore, a threshold-method-based forecasting system for snow peak sighting was developed in this study. Variables from numerical models, including cloud–water mixing ratio, cloud cover over snow peak, water mixing ratio, PM2.5 concentration, and ground solar radiation, were used in the snow peak sighting forecast system. Terrain occlusion rate of each model grid was calculated. Monte Carlo simulations were applied for threshold determination. A WRF-CMAQ hindcast was conducted for 2020, owing to insufficient observation data, hindcast results on the snow peak sighting were compared with posts collected from social media. Estimations showed that the snow peak sighting forecast system performed well in reflecting the monthly trend of snow peak sightings, and the hindcast results matched the daily observations, especially from May to August. Accuracy of the snow peak sighting forecast model was 78.9%, recall value was 57.1%, and precision was 24.4%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The impact of the built environment on the ridership of ride-hailing results depends on the spatial grid scale. The existing research on the demand model of ride-hailing ignores the modifiable areal unit problem (MAUP). Taking Chengdu as an example, and taking the density of pick-ups and drop-offs as dependent variables, 12 explanatory variables were selected as independent variables according to the "5D" built environment theory. The nugget–sill ratio (NSR) method and optimal parameter-based geographical detector (OPGD) model were used to determine the optimal grid scale for the aggregation of the built environment variables and the ridership of ride-hailing. Based on the optimal grid scale, the optimal data discretization method of the explanatory variables was determined by comparing the results of the geographic detector under different discretization methods (such as the natural break method, k-means clustering method, equidistant method, and quantile method); we utilized the geographic detector model to explore the relative importance and the interactive impacts of the explanatory variables on the ridership of ride-hailing under the optimal grid scale and optimal data discretization method. The results indicated that: (1) the suggested grid scale for the aggregation of the built environment and ride-hailing ridership in Chengdu is 1100 m; (2) the optimal data discretization method is the quantile method; (3) the floor area ratio (FAR), distance from the nearest subway station, and residential POI (point of interest) density resulted in a relatively high importance of the explanatory variable that affects the ridership of ride-hailing; and (4) the interactions of the diversity index of mixed land use ∩ FAR, distance to the nearest subway station ∩ FAR, transportation POI density ∩ FAR, and distance to the central business district (CBD) ∩ FAR made a higher contribution to ride-hailing ridership than the single-factor effect of FAR, which had the highest contribution compared with the other explanatory variables. The proposed grid scale can provide the basis for the partitioning management and scheduling optimization of ride-hailing. In the process of adjusting the ride-hailing demand, the ranking results of the importance and interaction of the built-environment explanatory variables offer valuable references for formulating the priority renewal order and proposing a scientific combination scheme of the built-environment factors. • A triangular model for government, social and other capital in China's rural revitalization. • An evaluation framework for land transfer and community building decision making. • Three types of rural restructuring: government-led, farmer self-organising, returned entrepreneur-oriented. In the context of urbanisation and decline of its countryside in the 21st century, the Chinese government has initiated a campaign namely "building a socialist new countryside" in 2006 which is now renamed as "rural revitalisation". Bringing together social capital, government intervention and other capital, we argue that rural revitalisation can be viewed as a process of the interaction between land transfer and community building leading to multiple gains of all stakeholders. Given the predomination of top-down government intervention and external capital investment in its campaign, this paper sheds new light on social capital in terms of not only mobilising community members' participation, but also reaching a balance with interests of government and other stakeholders. The importance of social capital can be illustrated from critical evaluation on governmental pilot projects in the suburban zone of Chengdu, a model municipal in China in urban-rural integration. In particular, this paper aims to address the following questions: How does social capital engage and contribute to rural restructuring for sustainable rural livelihoods? What role can social capital play in the decision making of land transfer and community building? This paper contributes to rural revitalisation and land use debates in three aspects. Firstly, we post a triangular model by bringing together government intervention, social and other capital to emphasize the interwoven nature of the relationship between land transfer and community building for better understanding of the intrinsic dynamics within the communities and their interests interfaced with external stakeholders. Secondly, with respect to the impact of land transfer on sustainable livelihoods, we propose an evaluation framework to account and compare the roles of social capital against government intervention and other conditions in land transfer decision making. Thirdly, applying the above framework to sample villages, we identify three types of rural restructuring: government-led, farmer self-organising, and returned entrepreneur-oriented. The expansion of urban areas and the increase in the number of buildings and urbanization characteristics, such as roads, affect the meteorological environment in urban areas, resulting in weakened pollutant dispersion. First, this paper uses GIS (geographic information system) spatial analysis technology and landscape ecology analysis methods to analyze the dynamic changes in land cover and landscape patterns in Chengdu as a result of urban development. Second, the most appropriate WRF (Weather Research and Forecasting) model parameterization scheme is selected and screened. Land-use data from different development stages in the city are included in the model, and the wind speed and temperature results simulated using new and old land-use data (1980 and 2015) are evaluated and compared. Finally, the results of the numerical simulations by the WRF-Chem air quality model using new and old land-use data are coupled with 0.25° × 0.25°-resolution MEIC (Multi-resolution Emission Inventory for China) emission source data from Tsinghua University. The results of the sensitivity experiments using the WRF-Chem model for the city under different development conditions and during different periods are discussed. The meteorological conditions and pollution sources remained unchanged as the land-use data changed, which revealed the impact of urban land-use changes on the simulation results of PM2.5 atmospheric pollutants. The results show the following. (1) From 1980 to 2015, the land-use changes in Chengdu were obvious, and cultivated land exhibited the greatest changes, followed by forestland. Under the influence of urban land-use dynamics and human activities, both the richness and evenness of the landscape in Chengdu increased. (2) The microphysical scheme WSM3 (WRF Single–Moment 3 class) and land-surface scheme SLAB (5-layer diffusion scheme) were the most suitable for simulating temperatures and wind speeds in the WRF model. The wind speed and temperature simulation results using the 2015 land-use data were better than those using the 1980 land-use data when assessed according to the coincidence index and correlation coefficient. (3) The WRF-Chem simulation results obtained for PM2.5 using the 2015 land-use data were better than those obtained using the 1980 land-use data in terms of the correlation coefficient and standard deviation. The concentration of PM2.5 in urban areas was higher than that in the suburbs, and the concentration of PM2.5 was lower on Longquan Mountain in Chengdu than in the surrounding areas.
