- Abstract
FreeLudo is an innovative project targeting the primary prevention of DSM-5 Gambling Disorder (GD), addressing children aged between 6 and 8 years attending Primary School. An innovative platform has been developed, which enables hybrid online and offline interaction and provides children with questionnaires aimed at better understanding the potential risk factors for the development of GD. Online interaction consists in providing questionnaires through a simple platform video game; after the video game, the platform also proposes social interaction among children by assigning them social challenges and activities. While providing an interactive user awareness on the risk of Gambling Disorders, the platform allows data collection on potential risk behavior. The paper summarizes the preliminary results of the platform’s first testing phase, conducted on a heterogeneous sample of children aged 6 to 8 years, attending a primary school in the province of Taranto (Apulia, Italy). - Abstract
This article addresses the experiences of transgender students in the educational system. In accordance with PRISMA methodological principles, a systematic, integrative review of the literature was conducted. The final analysis included 29 peer-reviewed scientific texts from the Scopus and Web of Science databases, which were evaluated using qualitative thematic analysis. Four main categories describing transgender people's experiences in the educational system were identified, namely (i) inequities and hostility, (ii) cisnormativity of the school system, (iii) consequences of transphobia and strategies for navigating the school space, and (iv) protective factors and visions for the future. The results of the literature review indicate that the educational space is often unsafe for transgender youth, where they experience various forms of hostility and injustice, while transgender issues go unaddressed. Research indicates that minority stress, mental health issues, and barriers to academic success are all consequences of an unsafe school environment. Despite the fact that the negative aspects of transgender individuals' experiences dominate the research, the findings demonstrate the many ways that the education system can create a safe and stimulating school environment for transgender students. The review of the literature is important for the Slovenian context because there are no empirical studies that examine transgender students' experiences in the education system. Research that has examined the everyday lives of LGBT+ individuals generally shows that there are also challenges in the Slovenian education system that are related to those highlighted in the current literature review. In addition, the research included offers ways to create a safe school environment that have not yet been developed in our area. In this way, it represents a potential guide for educational practice and opens opportunities for empirical research in the Slovenian context. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
After almost twenty years of collaboration in the Specialist Clinical Centers of the Academy of Family Psychotherapy of Rome, we intend to present the model of work with families with children and adolescents, overlapping and partly specific with respect to work with each of the two developmental phases. It will be described how over the years the first reception phase has transformed, both in the work with families with children and with adolescents. Furthermore, the work tools used in the two therapeutic contexts will be suggested and a particular space will be dedicated to work "of" and "in" the network, especially with schools. Finally, following a reflection on family and social changes, clinical vignettes will be proposed to suggest the specificity of symptoms in children and adolescents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article studies the cultural function of the representation of violence in Italian polizieschi of the 1970s within the historical context of the anni di piombo. Focusing especially on the representation of victims in the filone, the article claims that polizieschi presented for the first time a particular aesthetics of victimhood that I call 'aesthetics of random violence'. I retrace the experiential core of this aesthetics in the filone's recurring representation of imperilled, wounded, or dead children. The pervasive presence of this representation has so far remained practically unregistered in Italian studies scholarship. I therefore propose a novel periodisation of the filone based on the evolution of the aesthetics here described. Finally, I argue that through this aesthetics polizieschi allowed viewers a communal catharsis that reinforced the bonds between them as a united social body against the violence produced by terrorism and organized crime. - Abstract
Pain catastrophizing is a concept recognized as being one of the most powerful psychological determinants of sufferance and pain-related disability. The development of the Pain Catastrophizing Scale for Children (PCS-C) has greatly contributed to research in this area. The aim of this investigation was to validate the Italian version of PCS-C (PCS-CIV) by testing its factor structure, internal consistency and criterion related validity. In study 1 (438 participants; 40.4% males; 8-17 years) we tested the structure of the PCS-CIV through an Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and we subsequently checked the appropriateness of the solutions to the two subsamples of respondents (aged 8-11 and 12-17) by running separate dimensional analyses. In study 2 (351 participants; 44.2% males; 8-20 years) we aimed at replicating the same structure obtained for Study 1 in a new sample of respondents, by checking the appropriateness of one-, two-, and three-dimensional solutions. The results suggested that a 2-factor model derived from the PCA best represented the data, and it is to be preferred to the 3-factor solution. Our findings show that the PCS-CIV is a valid and reliable measure that provides interpretable scores for Italian-speaking children and adolescents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The paper explores the phenomenology of major depression and suicidal ideation in children, offering a brief overview of relevant findings in psychiatry, with particular reference to statistical evidence, and outlining psychoanalytic models, including Jungian as well as the post-Kleinian and Bionian vertices. Bowlby's seminal contribution to the understanding of mourning processes in relation to Freud's theory is also considered. The case of an eight-year-old boy is examined, with particular attention to a series of drawings that the patient produced over the two years of his psychoanalytic psychotherapy. The therapy was interrupted abruptly by his parents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction. It is known in the literature that the main cause of physical impairment in children with severe disabilities is falling, which can worsen their already compromised condition. There are no specific scales for this population in the literature, neither in Italian nor in other languages. We created and validated a scale for assessing the risk of falling in children with severe disabilities. Study design. Observational prospective study. Methods. We enrolled children (inpatients or day-hospital) admitted to the “Santa Maria Bambina Centre” of the “Fondazione Onlus Sacra Famiglia” in Cesano Boscone, Milan; the Content Validity Index of the Scale was calculated to assess the content validity of a new scale (ALICE). Cronbach’s alpha coefficient (α) was used to examine internal consistency, Spearman’s rho coefficient to test inter-rater reliability. Sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values were calculated. Results. Out of 48 patients enrolled, 14 fell (29.2%). The ALICE scale, with cut-off set at 16, showed a sensitivity of 100%, a specificity of 88.2%, a positive predictive value of 77.8% and a negative predictive value of 100%. The Content Validity Index of the Scale (=0.93), inter-rater reliability (rho=0.91, p<0.001) and Cronbach’s alpha (=0.72) were satisfactory. Conclusions. The ALICE scale seems reliable and valid in the disabled population and can be applied by nurses. Further studies with larger samples and a multicentre design are needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Objective: The literature has focused on the psychological impact of type 1 diabetes; however, few of them have explored the possible causal mechanism between the psychological variables of the parents and the glycometabolic outcome of the children. A good number of previous studies, despite otherwise diverging results, have identified parental fear of hypoglycemia and parental stress as risk factor for psychological outcomes and childs' glycometabolic control (e.g. Patton et al., 2008). We hypotesize that fear of hypoglycemia has an indirect impact on glycated hemoglobin, through parenting stress. Method and results: 80 parents of children with type 1 diabetes with type 1 completed Parenting Stress Index and Fear of Hypoglycemia-Parent Version. Glycemic control was extracted from the medical database. Mediation analysis revealed that fear of hypoglycemia predicts parenting stress (β =0,521; p<0,001) which in turns, predicts glycated hemoglobin (β=0,372; p<0,05). Conclusions: According to the hypothesis, results suggest that the relationship between fear of hypoglycemia and glycated hemoglobin is totally mediated through parenting stress. The importance of including the assessment of psychological parental variables and taking charge of the entire family unit is therefore evident. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The multidimensional assessment of self-esteem in childhood and adolescence proves to be very useful in the research field and has important implications in clinical practice. The Five-Scale Test of Self-Esteem for Children questionnaire is widely used in international research, examining four sub-dimensions of general self-esteem: academic, body, family, and social self-esteem. This study aims to illustrate the psychometric characteristics and the calibration of the Italian version of the questionnaire and to investigate whether factors such as age, gender and socio-demographic family variables have an effect on the sub-dimensions of self-esteem. The present cross-sectional study involved a sample of 1004 children and adolescents ranging from 8 to 20 years of age (mean age 12.71 ± 3.13, males 49.3%). The Five-Scale Test of Self-Esteem for Children questionnaire showed good psychometric properties (factorial analysis and internal consistency). Males reported higher levels of general and body self-esteem than females. Primary school children scored higher than older students on every dimension, except for social self-esteem. Academic self-esteem is the dimension most affected by socio-demographic variables. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper analyses and compares statutory provisions on tutelage for minor children in the Venetian towns of Koper, Izola, and Piran, and compares them with the regulation of the town of Ptuj, which was part of the Holy Roman Empire. It draws on selected notations from the notary books of Piran and, indirectly, documentary sources from Ptuj that reflect the practice corroborating and illustrating findings concerning statutory law. Moreover, from a comparative perspective, the paper aims to establish how Roman law influenced the legal regulation of the care of minor children in the two neighbouring territories that differed in terms of tradition and administrative affiliation. The Toy and Child Museum in Cormano is the first of its kind in Italy. Aiming at salvaging and transmitting historical memory of Childhood, the museum collects toys, documents and testimonies from 1700 to 1980s. The idea at its core is not only the exhibit of toys, but also the creation of a space of gathering, participation and education for children.

- Abstract
Separation between a married couple represents an event in a family's history, potentially leading to rupture thus creating constant tension. This can accompany the people who are undergoing the separation for a long time bringing forth complications and issues especially for children. The goal here is to present the paper elaborated by the Academy of Family Psychotherapy of Rome entitled "Clinical Service for the child and the family". The work demonstrates the organization of a therapeutic process in various articulated phases following Kaslow's separation model. Even though there is some procedural flexibility, the sequence of the work focuses on three areas: boundaries, reelaboration of separation and re-elaboration of the history of three generations throughout different moments of family therapy and of the members involved (the couple, children and family of origin). The objective is to give continuity in conflict separation cases focusing on both the development of each individual involved, which risks a halt if ties are broken, and on the family structure as a whole, which faces a rupture in generations. This will allow the children to regain a mother and father which are able to share the parenthood thus liberating the children from conflicts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

When families are in conflict, high levels of emotional activity such as anger, fear, loss and grief in the adults involved can affect children and young people in the family, particularly as a result of conscious and unconscious adult emotional pressure and manipulation. An aspect of this is when one parent uses their power over a child to excommunicate the other parent. This is sometimes called parental alienation. This terminology arises from the work of Richard Gardner, who developed the notion of Parental Alienation Syndrome. What lies behind the label parental alienation, the journey and implications of that phenomenon are explored. A consideration of the limitations of the UK court system reveals the lonely predicament of the child. This paper considers how psychotherapists may help young people to make sense of their experience of being caught up in destructive family narratives by claiming their own understanding and narrative. - Abstract
Choice overload has been mainly investigated on adults. The only study that investigated choice overload in children, adolescents, adults, and seniors showed that the phenomenon does not equally extend across age groups. Our research aims to further explore the negative consequences of choice overload on children, adolescents, and seniors. Findings showed that while adolescents are affected by the phenomenon in a very similar way as adults, children and seniors do not experience any negative consequence of having an overabundance of choice. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Does money bring happiness? How does one become rich? How does one become poor? This essay analyzes the responses to these questions in a sample of around 1,300 children aged 8, 9, and 10 in Italy who are involved in the financial education project called “The Economic Pie,” along with other aspects of their financial socialization. The research indicates that around half of those interviewed attribute significant importance to money, but not as a means for attaining happiness. Moreover, the majority of them are aware of some moral barriers (i.e., one cannot buy friends with money) and negative aspects (i.e., gambling) of the use of money. Finally, poverty is attributed to both social and individual factors that intervene in a person’s financial career. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Our paper is divided into three parts: the first, analyzing the results of a recent report of the Academy of Sciences of France concerning the interactions between children and touch-screens, clarifies the epistemological-evolutionary background within which we develop our research about the way children manage this kind of technology. The second part begins with an analysis of the digital revolution impact on the macro-economic scenarios in order to better understand the following review of the most recent international and Italian researches concerning the use of touch-technology by children (0-10) in informal contexts such as family and peers. This review aims to demonstrate how the age of children access to technology in general – and especially to smartphone and tablet based on touch-screen interfaces – has significantly lowered. The third is concerned with understanding how and why the new educational models culturally enhanced by digital technology can’t ignore the new informal touch-culture of children.

- Abstract
In the treatment of low vision, visual rehabilitation is of central importance. Through it, thanks to the use of brain plasticity and perceptual learning mechanisms which can exploit the residual vision, the visual function is strengthened. This is achieved through the administration of stimulations and specific exercises designed to address the visual impairment and reinforce the child's potential: the exercises must be aimed at the development of motor, cognitive and affectiverelational skills. - Abstract
Over the last decade, interest in the clinical field regarding the emotional area of the child has grown. Several studies have confirmed the efficacy of cognitive-behavioural treatment in childhood and adolescence (Sukhodolsky, Kassinove, & Gorman, 2004; Compton et al., 2004), and programmes for the prevention of emotional disorders, such as Rational Emotive Education (Educazione Razionale Emotiva) (Di Pietro, Morosini, & Agostini 1999), have been disseminated in schools. This is a preventive psychoeducational intervention, which derives from the principles of Ellis's Rational Emotional Behavioural Therapy (1989) and was brought to Italy in 1991 by Mario di Pietro (1992), following its adaptation at the Institute for Rational-Emotive Therapy in New York. In recent years the Italian version has been updated and integrated with the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, making the intervention more innovative. The purpose of this article is to provide an analysis of the application of Rational Emotional Behavioural Therapy in childhood and adolescence and to deepen the practical aspects of Rational Emotive Education, providing some useful ideas for the realisation of a psychoeducational project in primary schools. Mancano studi che valutino l'effetto dell’intervento su altre procedure a cui si sottopongono periodicamente i bambini con PC, BACKGROUND:Nearly 10% of the pain that affects children with cerebral palsy (CP) results from a medical procedure. Clown therapy is a popular distraction technique to reduce pain; some systematic reviews evaluate the efficacy of this intervention in the pediatric setting, but none on children with CP. AIM:To evaluate the effect of clown therapy on procedural pain in children with CP. METHODS:Systematic review with meta-analysis of clinical trials with control group. Retrieval of studies by querying biomedical databases, online resources and trial registers. Clown therapy was compared with standard care. The primary outcome was the pain level after surgery. The risk of bias was assessed with RoB 2. Effect size was calculated with a random effects model. RESULTS:Three studies with 164 patients were included. The risk of bias is high for two studies and raises some concerns for one. All studies analyzed the effect of clown therapy on procedural pain after botulinum toxin injection. There was a statistically non significant reduction in pain in the intervention group compared to the control group (SMD: -0.20, 95% CI: -0.56, 0.17). The heterogeneity between studies is high. CONCLUSION:Clown therapy for procedural pain from botulinum toxin injections in children with CP seems effective but the methodological limitations of the studies do not allow a definitive judgment. There is a lack of studies evaluating the effect of the intervention on other procedures that children with CP undergo periodically.

The high consumption of processed and ultra-processed foods associated with physical inactivity is identified as factors harmful to health because it is associated with an increased risk for chronic diseases. Objective: To evaluate the consumption of processed and ultra-processed foods, physical activity, and nutritional status of children attended a university clinic. Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional study with a convenience sample of 45 children aged two to 10 years, in Vitória-ES. Anthropometric and sociodemographic variables were collected. Excess weight was classified according to the BMI for children over five years old (> Z score + 1) and weight by age for children under five years old (> Z score + 2). Food consumption was collected through the food register with foods classified as minimally processed, processed, and ultra-processed. Results: The frequency of overweight was 73.3%, physical inactivity 53.4% , and the presence of chronic diseases in 71.1% of children. The average daily consumption was 1563.69 kcal, 40.8% derived from G1, 26.1% from G2, and 33.1% from G3.
