This study examines whether a CEO with a science and engineering background (CEOSEB hereafter) affects green innovation. Data of A-listed industrial firms registered on the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges are analyzed from 2008 to 2018. Findings indicate that CEOSEB has a significant positive impact on green innovation. This research also tests the moderating effect of the firm's resources, CEO compensation, and media coverage on the CEOSEB and green innovation nexus. Results show that the firm's resources and media coverage are positive, whereas compensation negatively affects the CEOSEB and green innovation association. Finally, our results depict that the impact is more pronounced in state-owned firms than in private-owned enterprises. Results remain robust to a battery of econometric techniques. This study investigates how R&D affects firm performance and examines whether and how state ownership moderates the R&D–firm performance nexus. Moreover, this study investigates whether and how product market competition moderates the association between R&D and performance across the different natures of firms. Employing a sample of Chinese listed firms from 2000 to 2020, the study performs estimations by applying pooled ordinary least squares regressions, fixed-effect panel regressions, and a two-step system GMM model to account for endogeneity problems. The findings reveal that firm performance reduces as R&D expenses rise, with the impact being less pronounced for state-owned enterprises. The adverse impact of R&D on corporate performance is also alleviated under intense competition. The results have important implications for policymakers, investors, and corporations seeking to understand how R&D spending influences corporate performance in competitive industries. This study explores the relationship between board diversity and financial reporting quality (FRQ) in China, an emerging market, by using panel data techniques. Specifically, it investigates firms registered from 2005 to 2018. Board diversity is categorised into relation (i.e., gender and age), task (i.e., education, tenure, and experience), and overall board diversity (sum of relation and task diversities). Findings indicate that board diversity has a significant positive impact on FRQ. The relationship between board diversity and FRQ is also strong in non-state-owned firms and during noncrisis periods. Findings remain consistent after numerous robustness checks comprising instrumental approach, propensity score matching, generalised method of moment, lag of independent variables, Heckman two-step model, change analysis, and alternative FRQ measures. The present study aimed to evaluate the performance of 46 global climate models (GCMs) from the newly released Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) in the historical simulation of precipitation and temperature, and select the best performing GCMs for future projection across China and three major river basins. This study uses four shared socioeconomic pathways (SSPs), namely SSP1‐2.6, SSP2‐4.5, SSP3‐7.0, and SSP5‐8.5 relative to the base period (1961–2014). Initially, 46 models were evaluated across China employing an improved Taylor diagram method. Based on relatively better performance, 10 best‐performing models (TBMs) were selected out of 46 models for further evaluation. The results show that historical temperature was well reproduced by CMIP6 over the study regions with a high correlation coefficient (CC). All the TBMs produced good CC ranging from 0.8 to 0.99 presenting the precipitation and temperature distribution well. Meanwhile, EC‐Earth3 and EC‐Earth3‐Veg well simulated the precipitation and temperature amounts as well as trends over selected three river basins. The multimodel ensemble mean (MME) underestimates temperature over China and selected three basins with bias values of −0.53, −0.21, −0.91, and −0.68°C, respectively. In contrast, MEM overestimated the simulated precipitation with the amount of 27.7, 32.4, 21.0, and 104.6% across China and selected three basins. During future projections, increased precipitation and temperature trends are projected over three selected river basins as well as all across China. The increasing trend of future precipitation over China under SSP1‐2.6, SSP2‐4.5, SSP3‐7.0, and SSP5‐8.5 scenarios are 0.65, 0.86, 1.29, and 0.76 mm·a−1, whereas, the increasing trend of temperature is 0.008, 0.028, 0.050, and 0.065°C·a−1, respectively. Comparatively, the greater the radiation force, the higher projected increases in precipitation and temperature across China and three major river basins were observed. The extent of CMIP6 models over the target region and its river basins calls for further deep assessment of the attribution and possible implementation of robust methods that can accurately simulate the observed patterns for future practice. With its contiguous nature, paired with the people's fear and anxiety, the Covid-19 outbreak has become a lethal combination, which despite the lower death ratio, has led to unanticipated financial and economic repercussions that have eventually disturbed the life of every single human being around the globe. In this very context, enterprises that belong to the fields of entertainment, tourism, lodging, dining, hotels, and restaurants have been found to be at a higher risk, as such operations are harshly affected during such unanticipated situations. Hence, based on this notion, the present study has been conducted, in order to precisely identify the effect on China's film and drama industry's stock returns, due to the outburst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, based on the time-series data from China, spanning from the time period of 01-Jan-2020 to 15-Mar-2021, the quantile autoregressive distributed lag method (QARDL) method has been applied, as the preferred statistical technique for this study. The results have reported that there happens to be a negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, on the industry across all the considered quantiles, representing the bearish, normal, and bullish market conditions. This research examines whether the characteristics of top management teams are related to financial statement comparability. Considering the foreign experienced CEOs (FCEOs) in Chinese listed firms from 2005 to 2018, we show that it can increase financial statement comparability. We argue that firms led by FCEOs will enhance information environment and governance mechanisms by minimizing agency issues, consequently generating more comparable financial statements. Through further investigation, we find that the relationship between FCEOs and comparability is stronger when CEOs possess a financial and accounting background and when they have overseas professional experiences. fthe relationship is weaker with the existence of higher economic policy uncertainty. Finally, we identify financial reporting as an important channel that explains the relationship between FCEOs and comparability. The world is looking toward organizations for social responsibility to contribute to a sustainable environment. Employees' organizational citizenship behavior for the environment (OCBE) is a voluntary environmental-oriented behavior that is important for organizations' environmental performance. Based on social learning theory, this study examined the effects of responsible leadership in connection with OCBE by using a sample of 520 employees in the manufacturing and service sectors in China including engine manufacturing, petroleum plants, banking, and insurance sector organizations. Further, the roles of psychological ownership and employee environmental commitment were used as mediators and moderators simultaneously. The direct, mediation, and moderation model results exposed a positive relationship between responsible leadership and OCBE via employee psychological ownership and employee environmental commitment. The study also revealed that the indirect effect is stronger when employees hold a higher employee environmental commitment. Therefore, the government needs to support the trade policies which causes a low level of CO2 emissions, the government may provide incentives to exports and industrialists to adopted green energy in the production process. This study investigates the relationship between CEO power and financial statement comparability. Using a sample of A-listed Chinese firms for 2005–2020, we document a positive relationship between powerful CEOs and comparability. We further examined the impact of media coverage on comparability and its moderating role in the relationship between CEO power and comparability. Our results suggest that media coverage leads to higher comparability and reinforces the positive association between powerful CEO and comparability. Additionally, the positive association between CEO power and comparability is contingent on the gender of CEOs and is reversed under higher economic policy uncertainty. Our findings support the transparency argument, the quiet life hypothesis, and the media's governance role. These results are robust to alternative measures of CEO power, comparability, econometric methods, and endogeneity. This study examines the influence of chief executive officer (CEO) trustworthiness on green innovation. We argue that firms led by trustworthy CEOs have a higher likelihood of adopting socially acceptable policies in response to environmental issues. Drawing on social norms perspective, we find that CEO trustworthiness is positively associated with green innovation using a sample of Chinese manufacturing firms from 2003 to 2018. Findings suggest that hiring trustworthy CEOs allows firms to cope with environmental issues. In recent years, the question of how uncertainty influences corporate decisions has received greater interest among academics, researchers, and corporations. This study is an attempt to investigate how uncertainties (firm-specific uncertainty (fsu), market-based uncertainty (mu), and economic policy uncertainty (epu)) influence research and development (R&D) investment and to further examine whether this relation is moderated by product market competition across firms of different sizes. Using a sample of Chinese listed firms covering 2000–2017, this study applies a two-step system GMM model to perform estimations and control for endogeneity issues. The findings show that uncertainties (fsu , mu , and epu) negatively influence R&D investment and that this negative relationship is more prominent for firms operating in competitive industries. In concentrated industries, however, the negative impact of uncertainty is mitigated for large firms, which have more internal resources and better access to external financing. This study contributes to real options theory by illustrating how different forms of uncertainty embedded in a firm's internal and external environment reduce R&D investment, and by indicating how this relationship is moderated by product market competition. Improving energy efficiency and investing in renewable sources are key influential factors that may lead to sustainable results from climate change policies. Using the data from Chinese listed companies, this study intends to find the impact of green financing, oil price volatility, and geopolitical risk in dealing with renewable energy investment. Therefore, this study used OLS and two-stage IV-GMM estimating methods considering direct and indirect relationships between the variables of interest. Similarly, this study also uses the advanced series of estimators in which AMG and CCE-MG estimators are being utilised to validate further. This research confirms the importance of green funding and environmental taxes in encouraging investment in renewable energy sources. According to Heckman's two-stage model with endogenous effects on the Chinese economy, geopolitical risk affects green investments in both the short and long term. Further, the analysis bolsters the connection between green financing and renewable energy investment while validating the moderating function of green regulations. The research suggests that China should prioritize the growth of eco-friendly businesses so that investments in renewable energy sources become mainstream.
