There is no specific evidence regarding the benefits of external and internal pancreatic duct stents after pancreaticoduodenectomy since pancreatic fistula (grade A) have been redefined with no clinical treatment effect. We aimed to reevaluate the prognostic value of external and internal stents in clinically relevant postoperative pancreatic fistula over pancreaticoduodenectomy. PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE and the Cochrane Database were specifically searched for pertinent and original articles published before May 2019. The project has been registered in PROSPERO (Registration number: CRD42019137579). Four randomized controlled trials and six nonrandomized controlled trials with a total of 2101 patients were enrolled in this meta-analysis. The use of an external stent resulted in better performance than the use of an internal stent in terms of pancreatic fistula (grade C) (OR 0.58, P = 0.03) but did not reduce the rate of pancreatic fistula (grade B) (OR 0.99, P = 0.94) in all studies. The meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials found that the use of an external stent approached a level of significance for an increased rate of clinically relevant postoperative pancreatic fistula compared to the use of an internal stent (OR 1.40, P = 0.10) but had no significant effect on pancreatic fistula (grade B) (OR 1.34, P = 0.26) or pancreatic fistula (grade C) (OR 1.68, P = 0.62). Compared with internal stents, the use of external stent might be associated with a lower rate of pancreatic fistula (grade C). Background and purpose: Abundant studies have shown that lncRNA PANDAR plays an oncogenic role in human solid tumors. Although abnormal expression of PANDAR has been well investigated in solid tumors, it was rarely studied in hematologic diseases. Hence, the aim of this study was to determine the PANDAR expression level and its clinical significance in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML).Materials and methods: For detecting the expression level of PANDAR in 119 AML patients and 26 controls, real-time quantitative PCR was used in this study. Hydrogen gas (H2) was recently proposed as a therapeutic antioxidant and signaling molecule in clinical trials. However, the underlying physiological roles of H2 in plants remain unclear. In the present study, hydrogen-rich water (HRW) was used to characterize the physiological roles of H2 in enhancing the tolerance of Brassica campestris against cadmium (Cd). The results showed that both 50 μM CdCl2 and 50%-saturated HRW induced an increase of endogenous H2 in Brassica campestris seedlings, and HRW alleviated Cd toxicity related to growth inhibition and oxidative damage. Seedlings supplied with HRW exhibited increased root length and reduced lipid peroxidation, similar to plants receiving GSH post-treatment. Additionally, seedlings post-treated with HRW accumulated higher levels of reduced glutathione (GSH) and ascorbic acid (AsA) and showed increased GST and GPX activities in roots. Molecular evidence illustrated that the expression of genes such as GS, GR1 and GR2, which were down-regulated following the addition of Cd, GSH or BSO, could be reversed to varying degrees by the addition of HRW. Based on these results, it could be proposed that H2 might be an important regulator for enhancing the tolerance of Brassica campestris seedlings against Cd, mainly by governing reduced glutathione homeostasis. Background: Myocardial infarction with nonobstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA) remains an unresolved challenge. Many different diagnostic approaches are often required to diagnose, confirm, and evaluate MINOCA. The prevalence can be as high as 13% of all acute myocardial infarction patients, indicating that this condition is not rare. At this time, there have been no completed randomized clinical trials involving MINOCA patients, and a better understanding of the mechanisms and management of these patients is important. This exploratory analysis seeks to find possible etiologic factors, the value of novel biomarkers, and the effect of different treatment strategies in patients with MINOCA.Methods: This prospective randomized pilot trial will include 150 patients with MINOCA. A thorough clinical, laboratory, and imaging evaluation will be performed, including novel biomarkers and modern imaging techniques (heart magnetic resonance imaging and noninvasive testing). The duration of the enrollment is 18 months, and duration of the follow-up is 12 months from the enrollment of the first patient.Results: The trial is registered under www.clinicaltrials.gov: NCT04538924. The study is currently recruiting participants.Conclusions: Because MINOCA is not a benign disease, the results of the current investigation could inform future diagnostic and therapeutic strategies and enhance the understanding of MINOCA patients.
