The technology for the selective catalytic reduction of NOx by CO (CO-SCR) has the capability to simultaneously eliminate CO and NOx from industrial flue gas and automobile exhaust, thus making it a promising denitrification method. The advancement of cost-effective and high-performing catalysts is crucial for the commercialization of this technology. Mn-based catalysts demonstrate enhanced catalytic efficiency under conditions of low temperature and low oxygen content when compared to other transition metal-based catalysts, indicating significant potential for practical applications. This review outlines the diverse Mn-based catalysts, including bulk or supported MnOx catalysts, bulk or supported Mn-based composite oxide catalysts, and the use of MnOx as dopants. Subsequently, the synthesis methods and catalytic mechanism employed by Mn-based catalysts are presented. The following section examines the impact of O2, H2O, and SO2 on the catalytic performance. Finally, the potential and implications of this reaction are deliberated. Achieving high NO conversion and N2 selectivity in selective catalytic reduction of NO by CO (CO‐SCR) in a wide operating temperature window, particularly in the presence of high O2 concentration, remains a big challenge. Herein, guided by density functional theory (DFT) calculations, a catalyst is rationally developed with dual active centers consisting of both Co single‐atoms (SAs) and CoOx nanoclusters (NCs) co‐anchored on Ce0.75Zr0.25O2 support (CZO), which show above 99.7% NO conversion and 100% N2 selectivity at 250–400 °C under 5 vol% O2. DFT calculation and experimental results confirm a strong interaction among Co SAs, CoOx NCs, and CZO support. Co SAs enhance CO adsorption and accompany the oxygen vacancies (OVs) formation in CZO, while the CoOx NCs promote both NO conversion to nitrate intermediate and the breakage of the NO bond at OVs, thus synergistically boosting the N2 formation. Simultaneously improving both NO x conversion and N 2 selectivity in the selective catalytic reduction of NO by CO (CO-SCR) under O 2 -containing conditions is highly challenging because of the competitive reactions of NO x and CO with O 2. Here, we demonstrate that the interfacial oxygen vacancies (IOVs) generated at the Co 3 O 4 -CeO 2 heterointerfaces by ball-milling-induced strain can remarkably boost both NO x conversion and N 2 selectivity in the temperature range of 100–400 °C. The Co 3 O 4 -CeO 2 -IOV catalyst achieved approximately 100% NO x conversion and 100% N 2 selectivity (200–350 °C, 1–5 vol% O 2 , and 20,000 h−1); even under 10 vol% O 2 , it still showed good catalytic performance. The spectroscopy analysis and theoretical calculations reveal that compared with O 2 activation, IOVs are more favorable for the rate-limiting step of NO adsorption and dissociation. This work provides an effective strategy to create IOVs within metal oxide composite catalysts using ball-milling-induced interfacial strain for improving CO-SCR performance. There is a growing need for the development of efficient transition metal (TMC) catalysts to selectively reduce NO by CO (CO-SCR). This review explores the recent progress in CO-SCR by TMCs of Fe, Cu, Mn, and Co, including their tolerance tests, reaction mechanisms, and design strategies, also providing a thorough analysis of the obstacles and potential future advancements in developing TMCs. This review aims to explore the latest advancements of TMCs in the CO-SCR reaction, focusing on Fe-, Cu-, Mn-, and Co-based catalysts. By combining the theoretical calculation and experimental results, we discuss the structure-performance relationships between TMCs and CO-SCR, the reaction pathways on various catalysts, and the impact of various implementation factors, such as O 2 , H 2 O, and SO 2 concentrations, along with the catalyst design strategies.
