The paper presents interdisciplinary research that lies on the intersection of cognitive psychology and cybernetics. It investigates a relevant topic: decision-making by operators of vehicles such as sea vessels. Should the operator be considered a part of the control system, both their psychology and the vehicle's maneuverability must be taken into account. The operator's decisions are subjective and therefore hard to formalize. The goal hereof lies in formalizing the operator's decision-making from the standpoint of probabilistic sense assessment, i.e., in quantifying such decision-making mathematically. The results could be interest for experts in vessel autopilot systems, artificial intelligence, and smart navigation control and safety systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
