- Abstract
Objective To investigate the anxiety symptoms and influencing factors, among community- dwelling adults in Shanghai, so as to provide references for the prevention and control of community mental health and the formulation of mental health policy. Methods We used a cross-sectional design and a structured questionnaire to investigate individual characters and anxiety symptoms. The structure questionnaire was composed of basic personal conditions and mental health service information, anxiety symptoms and depressive symptoms, influencing factors for anxiety symptoms among community residents in Shanghai were analyzed with Hierarchical Logit regression based on Anderson Behavioral Model of Health Service (P<0.05). Results The prevalence rate of anxiety symptoms was 11.1%.The factors that were significantly related to anxiety symptoms were the predisposing factors of education, occupation, religion and the status of government aid; the enabling factors of regular mental health resources; and the need factors of anxiety symptoms were depressive symptoms. Conclusions The study shows a high risk of anxiety discords among adult residents dwelling in communities in Shanghai, and the comorbidity of depressive symptoms and anxiety symptoms is very serious. The main influencing factors include sociodemographic characters, community mental health resource. This study highlights a need for efforts to reduce the incidence of anxiety and other common psychological disorders. As early as possible, anxiety symptom screening should be included in the community mental health prevention service system. The key population should be focused. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
