The current running system still has many flaws and weaknesses as it takes quite a long time to figure out the amount of supplies of goods raw materials because an admin shed have to calculate the physical stock quantities directly, the occurrence of the difference in the number of requests the raw material with raw material expenses due to miscalculations by admin warehouse, takes a long time to make a request and expense report raw materials causing the company's performance be hampered, the absence of a reminder to remind Admins about the number of warehouse stock of raw materials so that when the raw materials needed by the chef stock no. Based on existing problems then needed a system to help the admin staff stock in managing demand and pengerluaran raw material so that it doesn't happen the difference in stocks of raw materials. The system will be created using the PHP programming language and the Mysql database, the method of analysis PIECES and using a systems development method in System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

We introduce the novel technical results of the enhanced logging system for customer virtual machines (VMs) in an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud. The main contribution is that the enhanced system can work with a better system's accuracy and speed, with the simplicity of the design and implementation. We measure the accuracy of the unenhanced logging system, then find a quick solution to enhance the system based on the results of the measurement. To measure and enhance the unenhanced system, we increase the main memory and CPU cores of the VMs then collect the accuracy results from each increment configuration. We analyze the results and propose to use the taskset tool to enhance the accuracy of the system. Found three main findings include: firstly, the accuracy of the enhanced system is about 20% on maximum better than the unenhanced one; the enhanced system accuracy becomes 100%; lastly, the enhanced system can detect a file with the smaller file size as almost 12% smaller. The findings can be a basis to design the logging systems in an IaaS cloud, to decrease hardware and energy investment. To the best of our knowledge, the contribution and findings are not in the literature.

A transactional system consists of a concurrency control system and a recovery system. TicToc is one of the state of the art concurrency control protocols today, but it lacks recovery system. We studied the ways to integrate TicToc and recovery system. For efficiency, we adopted a parallel write ahead logging scheme for the recovery system. There are two methods to optimize the logging. First method is early lock release which executes lock release early on data objects. Second method is group commit which executes batched logs transfer to storage from memory. We integrated a transactional system consisted by TicToc and P-WAL logging system assuming non-volatile memory. We found that the two optimization methods incur performance degradation when storage access latency is equivalent to that of NVRAM.

Accountability in conjunction with preventative countermeasures is necessary to satisfy the needs of real-world computer security. A common method to achieve accountability is via logging and auditing. To achieve better accountability, a logging system should be capable of capturing activities as well as the relationships among the activities in a computer system or network. Existing logging techniques record activity events in isolation and rely on attributes and time stamps of the logged events to establish their relationships, and this approach leads to probable loss of event relationships among large and complex logs and a confusion during auditing. Prior works have indicated that flow-net is effective in addressing this problem by organizing events in a direct acyclic graph and preserving event relationships during logging. In this work, we provide a prototypical design and implementation of a flow-net accountable logging framework in the Linux operating system. Particularly, it can be applied to Internet of Things (IoTs) with Android Operating Systems. We measure the performance overhead introduced by the flow-net logging prototype via experiments in Linux. The results indicate that the flow-net prototype only introduces a small overhead when compared with existing logging methods. In addition, we show by examples enforcement of accountability policies in the flow-net logging framework and its performance overhead. This work thus constitutes a further step to advance flow-net in addressing accountability in computer systems and networks.

Cloud computing has been in increasing concentration these years. Nevertheless, recently, it suffers the ambiguity in discerning responsibilities for unexpected incapable services. At this time, people refer to the logs. However, since logs may judge the fault, they are susceptible to malicious modification. Thus, their integrity is vital. Existing solutions leverage blockchain technology to tackle this problem, but few of them take the pseudo-anonymous nature of blockchain into considerations. This risks users’ privacy when they anchor their logs onto the blockchain. Some solutions try to be anonymous, but they are not general enough to be practical. In this paper, we propose a blockchain-based anonymous logging system for cloud environment. Our system introduces zero-knowledge proof to realize anonymous authentication, which can ensure undeniability in auditing while doing no harm to anonymity. Through experimental evaluation, we evaluate the feasibility and anonymity of the proposed system.

An Infrastructure as a Service or IaaS cloud can offer a virtual machine or VM to the cloud customers to rent with pay per use basis. Although this cloud is widely used in many areas of applications, its security issues are obstacles for its adoptions. A logging system can mitigate the risks associated with these issues. This system can monitor and log malicious processes in IaaS customer’s VMs. However, the performance of this system is important to be measured. Moreover, the performance of this VM is also needed to be measured. Thus, this paper focuses on simultaneously measuring and evaluating the performance of both the logging system and the VM. To the best of our knowledge, there is no this kind of measuring methods in the literature. The main result of this paper is that we found the optimal point when the logging system and the VM can have suitable performance levels when both of them are working. This optimal point can be used by the IaaS providers to offer marketing packages for mitigating the risks associated with the issues of a customer VM with the consideration of his/her VM performance simultaneously. To mitigate risks associated with the security issues of an IaaS, this paper can be a guild-line to enable logging systems to be truly worked in the IaaS real-word production.

In this work we investigate the problem of detecting data exfiltration over HTTP and we propose different technical solutions to tackle it. We introduce a new anomaly-based detection approach for data exfiltration called passive application fingerprinting, which relies on fine-grained detection models to better identify anomalous connections. We show that our proposed system outperforms the current state-of-the-art solutions in terms of detection performance. Furthermore, we investigate the problem of victim-aware data exfiltration over HTTP, where an attackers mimic the victim's traffic to camouflage her presence. We show that none of existing detection solutions can accurately detect malicious communication while triggering few false alerts. The reason is that mimicked communication helps malicious traffic to not deviate from normal traffic, thereby breaking a fundamental assumption in detection systems. Consequently, we present honey traffic, a deception-based detection system to identify mimicked communication, without relying on the same assumptions as existing approaches. The main idea is to generate fake network messages that an attacker may mimic while observing the victim communication. If an attacker mimics fake messages, then a security monitor detects the attacker by identifying inconsistencies between the original and mimicked messages. We also present a technical solution for the impact evaluation of a data breach. Existing logging mechanisms are not reliable for impact evaluation because they can be tampered with by an attacker. The reason behind this is that machines are the sole responsible to generate the content of the log. Once they are compromised, it is not possible to know whether the content is legitimate or not. We present a distributed logging system to determine what has leaked after a data breach by combining threshold cryptography and Byzantine consensus protocols. Compared with related work, our system is more reliable in adversarial environments and more precise in determining what data has leaked.

After encountering difficulties in coordinating the compilation of the daily SALT software log between Sutherland and Cape Town, and struggling to identify the configuration of the telescope at a point in time, a new, automated system to record and consolidate the changes made to the telescope on a day-to-day basis has been developed. This has resulted in a reduction of administration overhead, more complete and timeous reporting of changes, and a daily report that is consistently formatted and contains easily searchable metadata.

5th International Conference on New Horizons in Education (INTE) -- JUN 25-27, 2014 -- Paris, FRANCE, WOS: 000383740201032, In this study, process of obtainment and management of learning experiences by using a life kogging system, that captures camera shots and screenshots spontaneously and continuously, is applied and evaluated in scope of a software developer's informal learning experiences. Life logging system is applied for a month by the first author of this paper and application results are evaluated with the help of semi-structured interviews and logs by both of the authors. As a result of the evaluation process, it is seen that life logging system carries an important potential for being an effective tool for managing informal learning experiences of software developers.

Nowadays, in our fast-paced world there are countless MOOC courses in the Internet with various topics that have been designed to broaden our knowledge. One of the most powerful tools for effective learning are online videos. Many case studies have been carried out in order to specify the qualities of a good educational video. Philip J. Guo, Juho Kim and Rob Rubin published an article (How Video Production Affects Student Engagement - An Empirical Study of MOOC Videos) on their experience during edX courses. They analyzed the optimal length of a video and determined which videos were preferred by the students. Our research group from the University of Szeged has developed a logging system which records student activities in online courses to analyze learning styles and behaviour when watching a video. In our research, we did a literature review about on-line videos and introduced the system to log student activities, focusing on video views.

System logs are the greatest forensics assets that capture how an operating system or a program behaves. System logs are often the next immediate attack target once a system is compromised, and it is thus paramount to protect them. This paper introduces SGX-Log, a new logging system that ensures the integrity and confidentiality of log data. The key idea is to redesign a logging system by leveraging a recent hardware extension, called Intel SGX, which provides a secure enclave with sealing and unsealing primitives to protect program code and data in both memory and disk from being modified in an unauthorized manner even from high privilege code. We have implemented SGX-Log atop the recent Ubuntu 14.04 for secure logging using real SGX hardware. Our evaluation shows that SGX-Log introduces no observable performance overhead to the programs that generate the log requests, and it also imposes very small overhead to the log daemons.

OBJECTIVES: This study presents the design and implementation of Coco: The Conversational Calorie Counter, a spoken food logging application for iOS. The aim of this work is to reduce the burden on individuals wanting to monitor their food to support healthy eating, as well as individuals with obesity tracking food intake to manage their weight. METHODS: We built a server to predict the best matching foods in the most recent USDA database, given a user's natural language meal description. For each logged food, the user selects the correct USDA food and portion sizes from a list of ranked options provided by our server. We constructed convolutional neural network models to predict matching USDA foods automatically. We launched an iOS prototype of our system for 14 participants in a pilot study to log their meals for five days. RESULTS: Participants were an average of 23.2 ± 2.60 years, 92.3% female, and 14.3% actively trying to lose weight. The results of the patient satisfaction survey administered at the end of study indicated that, on a scale from 1–5 (1 is best, and 5 worst), Coco was rated 1.86 ± 0.53 for perceived accuracy of nutrition facts, 1.79 ± 0.70 for personalization, and 1.43 ± 0.65 for appealing interface design. Compared to existing food logging applications, on a scale of 1–3 (1 is better, 2 the same, and 3 worse), Coco was rated better or the same as existing methods on 8 out of 9 questions, with a score of 1.67 ± 1.16 for difficulty of food logging, 1.33 ± 0.58 for personalization, and 1.67 ± 0.58 for how fun it was. 14.3% of participants said they would definitely continue using Coco, and 28.6% said they would probably continue using the app. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates the acceptability of logging food intake with spoken natural language, with the potential to benefit individuals who find existing methods of tracking dietary intake too tedious and/or time-consuming for sustainable use. In this paper, we propose a city-logging system to collect various types of data around the roads using mobile observation equipment. Since the collected image data from CCTV contains several things which can violate someone’s privacy, we present a secure method to search CCTV image using searchable image encryption system. In addition, we illustrate a city-info service which can be provided by analyzing the collected data. Implementation and testing of the proposed system will be carried out in future.

The researches for collecting personal daily behaviors and providing lifelog services with them have been recently increasing. Recent advances in mobile devices and sensor technologies have motivated to collect a huge amount of personal lifelog data in real time. With the rapid growth of the need for the research, there is a coming need for the effective lifelog management system which collects time-series big lifelog data sent from sensing devices and extracts major activities through processing them. For the effective lifelog management, the lifelog data can be processed in separated computing resources depending on the size and level of data. In this paper, we propose hierarchical structured data logging to support lifelog based personal services and to reduce the processing complexity and storage cost. First, we present the architecture of personal lifelog management system. With the system we present hierarchical lifelog data logging to optimally utilize computing and storage resources. Then we describe cost analysis and performance comparison for demonstrating the efficacy of our proposed system. Finally, as an initial step for experiments in our research, we describe experimental results of recognizing physical activities and extracting lifelog data which indicate major activities from them.

Remote Patient Monitoring is an alternative to regular home check-ups of patients with special medical conditions, physically challenged and the elderly who are unable to regularly visit a healthcare facility. Remote Patient Monitoring system allows the patient to be monitored remotely from their home itself. The system described here allows data acquisition from the fixed sensors. It is cheaper to monitor the elderly and infirm about patient physical states to the remote system. The doctor can directly monitor the patient's information. This paper also includes the web part; the patient’s database is monitored through embedded web server. The monitoring center receives the information from the patient and maintains the database, based on it the doctor can judge the patient status and then diagnose. The system uses the IEEE 802.15.4 standard and low cost Zig-Bee technology for wireless communication between the patient data acquisition system and the patient monitoring system and it supports the distance from 30m to 100m depends upon the power and output. Zig-Bee uses frequency bands of 2.4 GHz, and its transmission rate is 20 kbps to 250 kbps. The proposed system uses the high end processer ARM (Advanced RISC Machine).

In general, it is difficult for the professors of universities to provide all needed information to satisfy the students because they have different knowledge and interests. To solve this difficulty, our previous work suggested an interactive learning process, which use the students’ study records in order to improve the students’ learning motivation and the self-learning time. To improve the progress speed of a lecture and the efficiency of the Self-learning, we proposed an Active Learning System (ALS) using smartphone. In addition, we performed experimental evaluation of our ALS and showed that the proposed ALS can improve student self-learning and concentration. Learning system that has been proposed so far, was only to give a feedback a record of student’s learnings to lecturer. In this paper, we propose a mechanism to enhance the learning effects by logging a record of students’ learnings in the whole process of learning system.

Background/Objectives: The currently operating system of city information is not working smoothly due to not only the utilizing problem of existing infra but also the irrationality of separated operation for each service, but also the lack of providing service that is integrated with various information. To address these problems, this paper proposes a City-logging system. Findings: This study suggests the system of City-logging that is providing a convergence service of city information for the purpose of solving the above mentioned problem. The suggested system is to provide the information such as a traffic census, a police control of illegal parking and stopping, and the monitoring of air pollution. Improvements/Applications: After analysis of collected data from the mobile monitoring equipment, as the service is provided, the security network for the purpose of improving accuracy and safety of information is built and data is encrypted to deal with privacy. The proposed system will be realized and the efficient operating method of city information service will be suggested after this.

In this study, we suggest an enhanced smart TV logging system composed of a smart TV, smartphone, and smart watch. It can be used to research the audience's complicated and segmented behaviors while watching TV. We designed a prototype of the system, which can not only detect whether viewers are located in the TV-viewing area but also measure their movements and activities by analyzing beacon signals and sensor data from the smart watch. We conducted a technical evaluation to verify its fidelity and measure its performance, and a user study identified what factors affect the users' level of engagement with the TV content. The experiment results showed that the system accurately detected and measured users' location and engagement levels while watching TV. We found that smartphone usage while watching TV is important in understanding users' TV-viewing behavior.

Event logs are an important data source for identifying usability problems in websites. We present a web-based client-server application, Remote Web Event Logging System (RWELS), for logging user-interface events generated in the Microsoft Internet Explorer during a user's interaction with the pages of a website. RWELS logs events without interfering with the user's interaction — no additional interaction is required on part of a user to enable logging. RWELS is configurable and allows user-centric event logging. A usability analyst can choose the set of events to be captured and the pages of the website to be logged for a particular user. The event logs are dispatched through HTTP to the server where they are stored as text files. Users are identified uniquely and the event logs are associated with the user sessions.

In previous chapters, we installed Logstash, Elasticsearch, and Kibana. We configured an ELK Stack on a single server and also tested it. Running an ELK Stack on a single server, however, is not very useful. Our goal is to set up a centralized logging system for all of our servers, running at different locations and hosting web sites, web applications, ERP, and CRM systems. By setting up a centralized logging system, we can monitor the performance of our servers and analyze the logs for any issue that arises. Thus, in this chapter, you will see how we can ship events from remote servers to our ELK Stack server.

With the capability of the virtual machine monitor, a novel approach for logging system activities is designed. In the design, the guest operating system runs on the virtual machine monitor as non-privileged mode. The redirecting and monitoring modules are added into the virtual machine monitor. When a guest application is calling a system call, it is trapped and redirected from the least privileged level into the virtual machine monitor running in the most privileged level. After logging is finished, it returns to the guest operating system running in the more privileged level and starts the system call. Compared with the traditional methods for logging system activities, the novel method makes it more difficult to destroy or tamper the logs. The preliminary evaluation shows that the prototype is simple and efficient.

The shift towards more and more complex System-on-Chips fosters high-level modeling (HLM) of new systems in order to provide required time-to-first-virtual-prototype and adequate simulation speed. Using HLM furthermore allows running exhaustive simulations are, enabling the developer to gain a plethora of information from the system during simulation. Reporting, logging, analyzing, and interpreting this vast amount of data requires a potent report and logging system. This paper proposes such a solution: the presented system is build on the foundations of SystemC's sc_report class and maintains full compatibility with it. To provide extensive search and analysis features, the proposed solution features Python-based scripting capabilities and supports attached key-value pairs to each report message. Using highly efficient black- and whitelisting filters empowers the user to reported events during runtime and suppresses all irrelevant reports in order to achieve fast simulation. Filter rules are fully scriptable and interpreted during simulation runtime, allowing dynamic adaption of the rules based on events occurred. All proposed mechanisms were evaluated under real-world conditions in an existing virtual prototype platform, including a report database backend, enabling easy analysis of the generated data.

In this paper, a smart TV logging system comprising a beacon system and smartphones is proposed. To investigate the feasibility of our strategy, we designed and implemented a prototype system and conducted a trial study. The study results show that the prototype can unobtrusively capture viewers' various events embedded in TV viewing behavior. The results of the study also suggest that the proposed method allows more robust and accurate data to be collected than do the TV viewing behavior analysis approaches used in existing qualitative research studies, such as surveys and interviews.

Dear KV, I have been digging into a network-based logging system at work because, from time to time, the system jams up, even when there seems to be no good reason for it to do so. What I found would be funny, if only it weren’t my job to fix it: the central dispatcher for the entire logging system is a simple for loop around a pair of read and write calls; the for loop takes input from one of a set of file descriptors and sends output to one of another set of file descriptors. The system works fine so long as none of the remote readers or writers ever blocks, and normally that’s not a problem. The problem has come about because what was once handling fewer than 10 machines is now handling 40, some of which are remote across a wide area network. The obvious fix is to make the code nonblocking, but what I’m surprised about is that anyone would write code this way. It’s obvious from the first time you look at the code that it cannot scale.

With the widespread deployment of digital tachograph, an ability to record the driving data in a tamper-resistant manner has become a critical issue. The installation of the digital tachograph has been mandatory for all business vehicles in Korea since 2012. As its next step, a networked digital tachograph has been developed for real-time monitoring of the driving time, breaks, as well as rest periods undertaken by a driver. In this paper, we propose a tamper-resistant logging system for the networked digital tachograph, called T-Box. To provide the tamper-resistant logging, we devised a TPM-based logging mechanism in which even the drivers cannot modify or falsify the driving data.

We developed a computer vision-based mobile museum guide system named “Navilog”. It is a multimedia application for tablet devices. Using Navilog, visitors can take a picture of exhibits, and it identifies the exhibit and it shows additional descriptions and content related to it. It also enables them to log their locations within the museum. We made an experiment in the Railway Museum in Saitama, Japan.

A log is recording of system's activity, aimed to help system administrator to traceback an attack, find the causes of a malfunction and generally with troubleshooting. The fact that logs are the only information an administrator may have for an incident, makes logging system a crucial part of an IT infrastructure. In large scale infrastructures, such as LHCb Online, where quite a few GB of logs are produced daily, it is impossible for a human to review all of these logs. Moreover, a great percentage of them as just "noise". That makes clear that a more automated and sophisticated approach is needed. In this paper, we present a low-cost centralized logging system which allow us to do in-depth analysis of every log.

A real-time posterity logging system detects and tracks multiple targets in video streams, grabbing face images and retaining only the best quality for each detected target.

We address the problem of analysing performance anomalies in sensor networks. In this paper, we propose an approach that uses the local flash storage of the motes for logging system data, in combination with online statistical analysis. Our results show not only that this is a feasible method but that the overhead is significantly lower than that of communication-centric methods, and that interesting patterns can be revealed when calculating the correlation of large data sets of separate event types. This chapter presents an overview of the Nokia IPSO. All Nokia IP series enterprise appliances are based on the IPSO operating system, which was developed from a branch of the FreeBSD operating system, itself based on 4.4BSD UNIX. This basis makes for a very stable networking and routing platform. Given that most Nokia appliances are sold primarily as firewalls, Nokia made a substantial effort to harden IPSO and make it a more secure platform for firewall use. Some of the things Nokia did include shutting off unnecessary services, restricting system configuration and user accounts, logging system access, and removing development tools and libraries. The IPSO admin user is the equivalent of the UNIX root user in terms of privilege and is the only user enabled by default in a new IPSO installation. A monitor user can be enabled to allow read-only access to the Nokia IP Appliance, and it is possible to add other privileged and unprivileged users after installation. New unprivileged users must be added. The IPSO file system is logically just like any other UNIX file system, but it features some changes that increase security. The IPSO root partition is mounted read-only, and changes to system settings and mount points are all logged using the syslog facility.

This paper describes a forensic logging system that collects fine-grained evidence from target servers and networks. For the logging system, we developed a TCSEC-B1 level secure operating system and a dedicated network processor that collects network traffic. The logging system is also capable of protecting servers from malicious attacks as well as allowing security managers to obtain forensic evidences when the target server is assaulted by violations. We describe the design and implementation of the system and discuss the benchmark result of the prototype system.

The need for secure logging is well-understood by the security researchers and practitioners. The ability to efficiently verify all (or some) log entries is important to any application employing secure logging techniques. In this paper, we begin by examining the state-of-the-art in secure logging and identify some problems inherent to systems based on trusted third-party servers. We then propose a different approach based upon recently developed Forward-Secure Sequential Aggregate (FssAgg) authentication techniques. Our approach offers both space-efficiency and provable security. We illustrate two concrete schemes --- one private-verifiable and one public-verifiable --- that offer practical secure logging without any reliance on on-line trusted third parties or secure hardware. We evaluate proposed schemes and report on our experience with implementing them within a secure logging system.

Traditional methods of logging system activity are fundamentally insecure, which means that an attacker may compromise or tamper the logs. A novel method, Xen-based secure logging system call, is used to provide tamper-free logs of system call for some intrusion detection analysis techniques, which only require sequences of system call within a user process. Preliminary evaluation showed that the prototype is simple and efficient.

It has been estimated that around 50% of flight-delays due to engine problems can be traced back to maintenance errors, and the majority of such errors can be categorized simply in terms of `omissions', or `incorrect installations'. Companies have been tagging items with radio frequency identification (RFID) tags for product tracking, and have begun to look into their use for maintenance management. In this paper, we extend the notion of tagging objects to include the tools used to perform maintenance activity. Thus, a tool could be fitted with an RFID tag and sensors to indicate not only when it was used but also how it was being used. Combining this data with the person ID and location, provides potential input to a sophisticated paperless maintenance logging system. This paper demonstrates the concept and shows how it can function and be used. It is suggested that the system can support not only logging but also error-management and training. For example, if we know the procedure to be followed, then it is a simple matter to spot when the activity of the person deviates from the procedure. Implications for maintenance management and human error are discussed.

The penetration of ID-cards in Estonia has reached well over 25%. Digital signatures are widely used in a variety of situations and treated equally to handwritten signatures by law. In this presentation we look into reality-proven infrastructure and end-user tools required to create digital signatures with long-term validity. The infrastructure is lightweight as compared to competing solutions, and is based on already existing industry standards and protocols. Use of OCSP responder as an electronic notary and secure logging system providing auditable security are explained. Some end-user tools that are based on the XAdES standard will be described.

Dear KV, I’ve been stuck with writing the logging system for a new payment processing system at work. As you might imagine, this requires logging a lot of data because we have to be able to reconcile the data in our logs with our customers and other users, such as credit card companies, at the end of each billing cycle, and we have to be prepared if there is any argument over the bill itself. I’ve been given the job for two reasons: because I’m the newest person in the group and because no one thinks writing yet another logging system is very interesting. I’ve not gotten a lot of help from the other people on the team, who claim to have written "far more logging systems in their time than they want to think about." Do you have any advice on doing up a proper logging system?

In this paper two different types of application system developed in the Senboku Works of Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. are reported. They now back up the operators and contribute a lot to the safe and stable operation of the Senboku Works. One is what we call "Emergency Logging System", which records the process data when an emergency happenes. The other one is what we call "Fault Diagnostic System", which finds some particular faults at the early stage and warns the operators. Two examples are also given to illustrate the system.

5th International Conference on New Horizons in Education (INTE) -- JUN 25-27, 2014 -- Paris, FRANCE, WOS: 000383740201035, In this study, record, evaluation and planning of knowledge work experiences in personal research environments is applied via a life logging system, which has ability to capture screen shots and camera shots continuously for a month and then observations of this study are discussed. The life logging system is individually applied by first author for a month and then it is evaluated by both of the authors via logs and semi-structured interviews. As a result of the evaluation, it is seen that the life logging system has a potential for managing knowledge work experiences on personal research environments.

Volume II comprises three appendices: reduced logging data from the field trips; samples of other output formats utilized by the data management software; and cost/benefit summaries for the field trips in 1978.

Abstract Wireline logging has grown up along evolutionary lines, producing a family of stand-alone logging tools which share the cable and recorder, but little else. The advantage of an integrated system of surface instrumentation built around a computer was recognized, and now such a system has been built. The CYBER SERVICE UNIT (CSU) is a complete, self-contained system for acquiring, storing, processing, and presenting well log data. Full processing, and presenting well log data. Full use is made of preprogrammed machine computation for routines and tasks which previously required constant human interaction: such operations as tool calibration, operating sequences, scaling, and selection of parameters, for example. CSU is far more than just a recording system. It applies computerized control to most aspects of the logging operation, providing direct benefits to the user in many areas, including:faster logging operations, more accurate and more consistent logs, visible, on-depth log display either up or down, and log quality control The CSU system takes full advantage of the opportunity to improve the efficiency of the logging operation. Freeing the logging engineer from continuous, monotonous interaction is a giant first step. In addition, the system incorporates many basic design features directed at insuring reliability under oil-field conditions, such as: integral redundancy of all essential components; a family of diagnostic software programs for system checkout and troubleshooting; and significantly improved packaging. The on-board computer also permits more sophisticated wellsite interpretations than have previously been possible. This new kind of logging unit has been enthusiastically received by crews and users alike. It represents a major forward move in the field of logging.
