The phase diagram of the kagome metal family \ch{AV3Sb5} (A = K, Rb, Cs) features both superconductivity and charge density wave (CDW) instabilities, which have generated tremendous recent attention. Nonetheless, significant questions remain. In particular, the temperature evolution and demise of the CDW state has not been extensively studied, and little is known about the co-existence of the CDW with superconductivity at low temperatures. We report an x-ray scattering study of \ch{CsV3Sb5} over a broad range of temperatures from 300 K to $\sim$ 2 K, below the onset of its superconductivity at $\textit{T}_\text{c}\sim$ 2.9 K. Order parameter measurements of the $2\times2\times2$ CDW structure show an unusual and extended linear temperature dependence onsetting at $T^*$ $\sim$ 160 K, much higher than the susceptibility anomaly associated with CDW order at $\textit{T}_\text{CDW}=94$ K. This implies strong CDW fluctuations exist to $\sim1.7\times\textit{T}_\text{CDW}$. The CDW order parameter is observed to be constant from $T=16$ K to 2 K, implying that the CDW and superconducting order co-exist below $\textit{T}_\text{c}$, and, at ambient pressure, any possible competition between the two order parameters is manifested at temperatures well below $\textit{T}_\text{c}$, if at all. Anomalies in the temperature dependence in the lattice parameters coincide with $\textit{T}_\text{CDW}$ for $\textit{c}(T)$ and with $T^*$ for $a(T)$.

Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDC) stand out with their high chemical stability and the possibility to incorporate a wide range of magnetic species between the layers. The behavior of conduction electrons in such materials intercalated by 3d-elements is closely related to their magnetic properties and can be sensitively controlled by external magnetic fields. Here, we study the magnetotransport properties of NbS$_2$ intercalated with Mn, Mn$_{1/4}$NbS$_2$, demonstrating a complex behavior of the magnetoresistance and of the ordinary and anomalous Hall resistivities. Application of pressure as tuning parameter leads to the drastic changes of the magnetotransport properties of Mn$_{1/4}$NbS$_2$ exhibiting large negative magnetoresistance up to $65 \%$ at 7.1 GPa. First-principles electronic structure calculations indicates pressure-induced transition from ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic state. Theoretical calculations accounting for the finite temperature magnetic properties of Mn$_{1/4}$NbS$_2$ suggest a field-induced metamagnetic ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic transition as an origin of the large negative magentoresistance. These results inspire the development of materials for spintronic applications based on intercalated TMDC with a well controllable metamagnetic transition.

The thermoelectric properties of n type semiconductor, TiNiSn is optimized by partial substitution with metallic, MnNiSb in the half Heusler structure. Herein, we study the transport properties and intrinsic phase separation in the system. The Ti1-xMnxNiSn1-xSbx alloys were prepared by arc-melting and were annealed at temperatures obtained from differential thermal analysis and differential scanning calorimetry results. The phases were characterized using powder X-ray diffraction patterns, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry. After annealing the majority phase was TiNiSn with some Ni rich sites and the minority phases was majorly Ti6Sn5, Sn, and MnSn2. Ni rich sites were caused by Frenkel defects, this led to a metal-like behavior of the semiconducting specimens at low temperature. For x up to 0.05 the samples showed an activated conduction, whereas for x>0.05 they showed metallic character. The figure of merit for x=0.05 was increased by 61% (ZT=0.45) in comparison to the pure TiNiSn., Comment: 7 pages and 5 figures. Topological insulators are known to their metallic surface states, a result of strong-spin-orbital coupling, that show unique surface transport phenomenon. But these surface transports are buried in presence of metallic bulk conduction. We synthesized very high quality Bi$_2$Te$_2$Se single crystals by modified Bridgman method, that possess high bulk resistivity of $>$20~$\Omega$cm below 20~K, whereas the bulk is mostly inactive and surface transport dominates. Temperature dependence resistivity follows the activation law like a gap semiconductor in temperature range 20-300~K. We designed a special measurement geometry, which aims to extract the surface transport from the bulk. This special geometry is applied to measure the resistance and found that Bi$_2$Te$_2$Se single crystal exhibits a cross over from bulk to surface conduction at 20~K. Simultaneously, the material also shows strong evidence of weak anti-localization in magneto-transport due to the protection against scattering by conducting surface states. Noncollinear magnets provide essential ingredients for the next generation memory technology. It is a new prospect for the Heusler materials, already well known due to the diverse range of other fundamental characteristics. Here, we present a combined experimental and theoretical study of novel noncollinear tetragonal Mn2RhSn Heusler material exhibiting unusually strong canting of its magnetic sublattices. It undergoes a spin-reorientation transition, induced by a temperature change and suppressed by an external magnetic field. Because of the presence of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya exchange and magnetic anisotropy, Mn2RhSn is suggested to be a promising candidate for realizing the Skyrmion state in the Heusler family.

Antiferromagnetic semiconductors are new alternative materials for spintronic applications and spin valves. In this work, we report a detailed investigation of two antiferromagnetic semiconductors AMnAs (A = Li, LaO), which are isostructural to the well-known LiFeAs and LaOFeAs superconductors. Here we present a comparison between the structural, magnetic, and electronic properties of LiMnAs, LaOMnAs and related materials. Interestingly, both LiMnAs and LaOMnAs show a variation in resistivity with more than five orders of magnitude, making them particularly suitable for use in future electronic devices. From neutron and X-ray diffraction measurements on LiMnAs we have observed a magnetic phase transition corresponding to the Neel temperature of 373.8 K, and a structural transition from the tetragonal to the cubic phase at 768 K. These experimental results are supported by density functional theory (DFT) calculations.

The filled-skutterudite compound CePt4Ge12 is situated close to the border between intermediate-valence of Ce and heavy-fermion behavior. Substitution of Ge by Sb drives the system into a strongly correlated and ultimately upon further increasing the Sb concentration into an antiferromagnetically ordered state. Our experiments evidence a delicate interplay of emerging Kondo physics and the formation of a local 4f moment. An extended non-Fermi-liquid region, which can be understood in the framework of a Kondo-disorder model, is observed. We present a combined study of the electronic structure of the superconducting skutterudite derivative SrPt4Ge12 by means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and full potential band structure calculations including an analysis of the chemical bonding. We establish that the states at the Fermi level originate predominantly from the Ge 4p electrons and that the Pt 5d shell is effectively full. We find excellent agreement between the measured and the calculated valence band spectra, thereby validating that band structure calculations in combination with photoelectron spectroscopy can provide a solid basis for the modeling of superconductivity in the compounds MPt4Ge12 (M = Sr, Ba, La, Pr) series.

The spin polarization of ferromagnetic alkali-metal iron antimonides KFe4Sb12 and NaFe4Sb12 is studied by point-contact Andreev reflection using superconducting Nb and Pb tips. From these measurements an intrinsic transport spin polarization Pt of 67% and 60% for the K and Na compound, respectively, is inferred which establishes these materials as a new class of highly spin polarized ferromagnets. The results are in accord with band structure calculations within the local spin density approximation (LSDA) that predict nearly 100% spin polarization in the density of states.
