We propose a new model of a Josephson junction array embedded in a resonant cavity. The model considers the excitation of the resonance mode by the array and the influence of the resonance mode on the array. The phase-locking properties of the junction array are investigated in the frame of the model. Resonant steps in the current–voltage characteristics due to the interaction between the array and the resonant cavity and many other features of the phase-locking behaviors have been produced. The results include the influence of the quality factor, the strength of the coupling, as well as the junction number of the array on the phase-locking properties. The model can successfully explain many features of the real situation and provide useful new predictions.

We observe and measure the inductance of long intrinsic Josephson junction arrays composed of misaligned Tl2Ba2CaCu2O8 thin films grown on LaAlO3 substrates. The array consists of about 9.1×103 intrinsic Josephson junctions, where 90° phase shift between ac voltage across the array and ac current flowing through has been measured. Furthermore, the voltage is proportional to the frequency of the current. The measured inductance values of the intrinsic Josephson junction arrays are basically consistent with the theoretically calculated results, confirming that the inductance is mainly due to the Josephson effect. The dependence of the array inductance on its critical current is also discussed.

In this paper, compact high temperature superconducting (HTS) multiplexers are presented for satellite communication applications. The first multiplexer consists of an input coupling node and three high-order bandpass filters, which is named triplexer. The node is realized by a loop microstrip line instead of conventional T-junction to eliminate the redundant susceptance due to combination of three filters. There are two eight-pole band-pass filters and one ten-pole band-pass filter with cascaded quadruplet structure for realizing high isolation. Moreover, the triplexer is extended to a multiplexer with six channels so as to verify the expansibility of the suggested approach. The triplexer is fabricated using double-sided YBa2Cu3O7 thin films on a 38 × 25 mm2 LaAlO3 substrate. The experimental results, when compared with those ones from the T-junction multiplexer, show that our multiplexer has lower insertion loss, smaller sizes and higher isolation between any two channels. Also, good agreement has been achieved between simulations and measurements, which illustrate the effectiveness of our methods for the design of high performance HTS multiplexers.

The experimental results of mm-wave coherent emission from a high temperature superconducting bicrystal Josephson junction array embedded in a Fabry-Perot resonator are reported in this paper.The mm-wave coherent emission from the series junction array results from the interaction of the junctions with the substrate serving as the dielectric resonator as well as the Fabry-Perot resonator.The central frequency of emission of a Josephson junction array containing 166 bicrystal junctions was 75.84 GHz,and the detected emission power was about 10 pW at 77 K.

The millimeter wave irradiation characteristics of a Tl-2212 high-temperature superconducting thin film bicrystal Josephson junction embedded in a hemispherical Fabry-Perot resonator was studied. The coupling characteristics of the bicrystal Josephson junction with the Fabry-Perot resonator have been investigated experimently, showing that it was greatly affected by the factors such as the location of the sample in the open resonator, the angle between them, the pattern of the junction and the distance between the two reflecting mirrors of the resonator. The optimized coupling between Josephson junction and applied microwave was achieved by refined adjustment of the factors. In this case, 9 orders distinct Shapiro steps were observed. Taking advantage of the Fabry-Perot resonator technique, the coupling problem between high-temperature superconducting thin film Josephson junction and applied millimeter wave was well solved, which is of significance for the research on radiation and detection of millimeter wave and terahertz wave of high-temperature superconducting Josephson junction.

Tl-2212 bicrystal Josephson junctions on SrTiO3 substrates have been fabricated. The I-V characteristic of a Josephson junction under microwave radiation were measured，and microwave induced steps were observed in accordance with the Josephson frequency-voltage relationship. The RCSJ model including noise of bicrystal Josephson junction was constructed through numerical simulation，and the results of simulation were in good agreement with the experimental data. Using the RCSJ model，we investigated the effect of noise on the dynamic characteristics of Josephson junction through simulation，and explained the phenomenon of reduced height and increased breadth of the minima of microwave induced steps. We proposed that the effective noise temperature should be the sum of operational temperature and equivalent temperature of the external noise.

The model of capacitively coupled intrinsic Josephson junction array was constructed with the software PSpice. Taking advantage of this new model, we investigated the behavior of capacitively coupled intrinsic Josephson junction array driven by constant current. The time domain wave, freguency spectrum, fractal dimension and phase portrait were obtained. Compared with the uncoupled array, chaotic behaviors were found firstly in the capacitively coupled intrinsic Josephson junction array. The results are valuable for the research and application of intrinsic Josephson junction arrays.
