Background: The relationship between serum vitamin D levels and metabolic syndrome (MetS) has been controversial. This study focused on the relationship between the prevalence of MetS and serum vitamin D levels in middle-aged and elderly people. Methods: This study included middle-aged and older adults who participated in the 2023 Zhejiang Provincial Nutrition and Health Survey, which was conducted in 90 districts and counties in Zhejiang Province, China. Results: A total of 11,305 participants were included in this study. MetS was prevalent in 31.7% of participants. Vitamin D and vitamin D3 concentrations were inversely associated with MetS prevalence (Ptrend<0.05), but not with vitamin D2, regardless of whether logistic regression models were adjusted for confounding factors. After adjusting for age, sex, physical activity level, smoking status, education level, annual per capita household income, and body mass index residuals, the highest tertile (Q3) of vitamin D (odds ratio [OR], 0.779; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.702–0.865) and vitamin D3 (OR, 0.787; 95% CI, 0.709–0.875) concentrations had a lower risk of MetS than the lowest tertile (Q1). We found that vitamin D and D3 levels were correlated with age (Pinteraction<0.05). When age-stratified analyses were performed, vitamin D and vitamin D3 levels were significantly negatively associated with MetS in older adults but not in middle-aged adults. Background: Metabolic syndrome poses a significant public health challenge globally, particularly among older adults. Dietary patterns play a crucial role in the development and management of metabolic syndrome. However, to our knowledge, no evidence exists regarding the association between dietary patterns and metabolic syndrome among the Mexican older adult population. Thus, the objective of the present study is to assess the association between dietary patterns and metabolic syndrome in Mexican older adults. Methods: This cross-sectional study utilized data from the Mexican National Health and Nutrition Survey 2016 to investigate the relationship between dietary patterns and metabolic syndrome in 804 OA (aged ≥60 years). Dietary patterns were derived using factor analysis, and metabolic syndrome was defined based on established criteria. Logistic regression models were employed to assess associations, adjusting for potential confounders. Results: Three dietary patterns were identified: a "Westernized" pattern characterized by high consumption of processed meat, red meat, and saturated fats; a "Transitional" pattern high in fresh vegetables and fruits; and a "Prudent" pattern high in fish and low-fat dairy products. The "Westernized" pattern exhibited a positive association with metabolic syndrome, while the "Prudent" pattern showed a negative association. The associations remained significant after adjusting for confounders. Biological mechanisms linking the "Westernized" pattern to metabolic syndrome include chronic inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, and dyslipidemia induced by components such as processed meats and soft drinks. Conclusion: Our study highlights the importance of dietary patterns in influencing metabolic syndrome risk among Mexican older adults. Promoting dietary patterns rich in fish, vegetables, and legumes while reducing consumption of processed meats and sugary beverages may offer significant health benefits in this population. Background: Depression is one of the most debilitating mental disorders and a risk factor for many other chronic diseases that are commonly seen in the geriatric population. It has been claimed in previous studies that depression can be associated with obesity in this age group, but there is no common consensus between their results. Aim: This study aims to evaluate the association between depression metabolic syndrome and obesity phenotypes in community-dwelling older adults living in the East of Iran. Method and materials: As a part of the Birjand Longitudinal Aging Study, this retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted on participants older than 60. They were categorized based on their body mass index and components of metabolic syndrome into four phenotypes: metabolic non-healthy obese (MNHO), metabolic healthy obese (MHO), metabolic healthy non-obese (MHNO), and metabolic non-healthy non-obese (MNHNO). The relative risk ratio (RRR) of the obesity phenotypes, the severity of depressive symptoms, and the 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were evaluated by univariate and multinomial logistic regression. Results: Of 1344 eligible participants, 268 (19.94%) had depression. Moderate, moderate-severe, and severe depression were observed in 179 (13.32%), 67 (4.99%), and 22 (1.64%) participants, respectively. Our findings showed a non-significant increase in the RRR of mild depressive symptoms in MNHO (RRR:1.22, 95% CI 0.56–2.66) and severe symptoms in MNHNO (RRR:1.20, 95% CI 0.02–63.17) females. However, in male participants, the RRR of moderate-severe depressive symptoms only increased non-significantly for the MNHO category (RRR:1.34, 95% CI 0.45–3.98). Conclusion: We did not observe a meaningful association between depressive symptoms and obesity phenotypes. Also, other than malnutrition or its risk, various severities of depressive symptoms correlate with different sociodemographic and medical risk factors among male and female senior citizens. Background: The metabolic syndrome consists of a combination of metabolic abnormalities and genetic predisposition that both contribute significantly to its development. Numerous studies have established a strong association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the rs7903146 variant in the TCF7L2 gene and the metabolic syndrome (MetS) as well as type 2 diabetes. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the impact of rs7903146 on MetS and its components. Methods: For this cross-sectional study, 325 individuals aged 25 to 86 who were selected from the baseline data of the Ahvaz cohort study were examined. Body mass index, blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and triglycerides (TG) were measured following standard protocols. MetS subjects were identified based on the National Cholesterol Education Program guidelines. Genotyping was conducted using the PCR-RFLP method. Results: Our findings revealed that individuals with the CT genotype of rs7903146 had an increased risk of MetS (OR 2.24; 95% CI, 1.26–3.98; p < 0.006). This genotype was also found to be associated with a higher risk of hypertension and low HDL cholesterol (p < 0.05). Moreover, plasma triglyceride levels were slightly higher in individuals with TT and CT genotypes, although not significantly so (p = 0.06). Conclusion: In conclusion, the CT genotype of the TCF7L2 rs7903146 polymorphism exhibited higher odds for MetS. While lifestyle factors and other genes are also implicated in MetS, our findings suggest that studying TCF7L2 polymorphisms in high-risk groups could contribute to the development of genotype-specific prevention or treatment strategies. Context Ginger consumption may have an inverse relationship with obesity and metabolic syndrome parameters; however, clinical trials have reported contradictory results. Objective To systematically review and analyze randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the effects of ginger on body weight and body composition parameters. Methods Databases were searched for appropriate articles up to August 20, 2022. All selected RCTs investigated the impact of ginger on glycemic indices in adults. A random effects model was used to conduct a meta-analysis, and heterogeneity was assessed using the I2 statistic. Net changes in body weight, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), and percent body fat were used to calculate the effect size, which was reported as a weighted mean difference (WMD) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The risk of bias was assessed. Results A total of 27 RCTs involving 1309 participants were included. The certainty in the evidence was very low for WC and BMI, and low for body weight and percent body fat as assessed by the GRADE evidence profiles. The meta-analysis showed a significant association between ginger supplementation and a reduction in body weight (WMD, –1.52 kg; 95%CI, –2.37, –0.66; P < 0.001), BMI (WMD, –0.58 kg/m2; 95%CI, –0.87, –0.30; P < 0.001), WC (WMD, –1.04 cm; 95%CI: –1.93, –0.15; P  = 0.021), and percent body fat consumption (WMD, –0.87%; 95%CI, –1.71, –0.03; P  = 0.042). The results of the nonlinear dose-response analysis showed a significant association between the ginger dose with body weight (P nonlinearity = 0.019) and WC (P nonlinearity = 0.042). The effective dose of ginger intervention for body mass reduction was determined to be 2 g/d in dose-response analysis. The duration of ginger intervention had a significant nonlinear relationship with body weight (P nonlinearity = 0.028) with an effective duration of longer than 8 weeks. INTRODUCTION: Evidence concerning the health effects of using heated tobacco products is needed. The aim of the present study is to investigate the effects of conventional cigarettes (CCs), electronic vaping cigarettes (EVCs), and heated tobacco products (HTPs) on the development of metabolic syndrome. METHODS: We conducted a cohort study in South Korea using data from the Korea Medical Institute. The study included 183870 people who visited the Korea Medical Institute, responded to a smoking status questionnaire in 2019, and were followed up in 2020 – ever and current use of CCs, EVCs, and HTPs. We defined the main outcome as incident metabolic syndrome among participants with at least two health checkups separated by a follow-up period of at least a year. RESULTS: The association of using HTPs with risk for metabolic syndrome was estimated after controlling for age, sex, exercise, drinking history, and smoking regular cigarettes and using EVCs, with the Cox proportional hazards model. The risk of incident metabolic syndrome was increased by 68% (HR=1.68; 95% CI: 1.25–2.26) for current HTP users compared to never users. Among HTP users who did not currently smoke conventional cigarettes, the risk was doubled (HR=2.17; 95% CI: 1.31–3.62) when their smoking duration was ≥3 years. The risk of metabolic syndrome increased by 33% (HR=1.33; CI: 1.18–1.49) among HTP users who used them more than 16 times a day. The use of HTP was found to increase the risk of developing metabolic syndrome, with a particularly elevated risk observed among those who used HTPs for more than three years. The risk was higher than that observed in conventional cigarette users. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicate that HTP use poses comparable risks in relation to metabolic syndrome development. Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) being a biological abnormality confers the highest risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Aim: To assess MetS indicators in the newly diagnosed T2DM Pakistani population. Methods: A cross-sectional study (N = 123) with newly diagnosed T2DM patients (gender: both, MeanAge: 49.24 ± 6.84 years) was selected from Medical OPD, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Islamabad. Basic profile, family history, and physical activity were recorded through a predesigned questionnaire, dietary intake through seven days Food Diary and Food Frequency Questionnaire. Blood pressure and selected clinical signs and symptoms were recorded. Anthropometric measurements included mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist-and-hip ratio (WHR), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), and conicity index. Lab parameters included fasting blood glucose, HbA1c, insulin levels, and lipid profile. Homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) was computed to assess insulin resistance. Results: Almost all parameters related to MetS were higher than normal. The prevalence of MetS was 59.7%. BMI, MUAC, and WHtR were independently associated with HOMA-IR, but WC, WHR, and the conicity index had no relationship MetS indicators. Conclusion: The prevalence rate of MetS was found to be 59.7% in newly diagnosed T2DM patients. Purpose: This study analyzed the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and influencing factors among adult workers aged 19 to 64. Methods: Data from the ninth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted in 2022 were utilized. The sample comprised 685 individuals who had measurements of fasting glucose, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, blood pressure, and waist circumference, which are necessary to diagnose metabolic syndrome. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 26.0, and complex sample logistic regression was conducted to identify factors influencing metabolic syndrome. Results: Among the participants, 34.3% were diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. Significant differences were observed in sex, age, region, marital status, regular worker, and physical activity between participants with and without metabolic syndrome (p < .05). Factors influencing the prevalence of metabolic syndrome included sex, age (with the 19~29 age group showing a significantly lower risk), physical activity, smoking, and perceived stress levels (p < .05). The U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) physical activity monitor datasets for 2011–12 and 2013–14 were released in late 2020. To date, there has been limited interpretation of these nationally representative wrist‐worn accelerometer data (summarized and reported in Monitor Independent Movement Summary [MIMS] units) and their relationships with health‐related outcomes. This study examined the associations between free‐living DailyMIMS (volume), Peak 1MIMS and Peak 30MIMS (intensity), and risk of Metabolic Syndrome (MetS). Data from adults (N=3787; 18–80+ years) in the 2011–12 and 2013–14 NHANES cycles with health examination and accelerometry data were included. Accelerometer data were processed into Peak 1MIMS and Peak 30MIMS (MIMS/min), and DailyMIMS (MIMS/day). Design‐based generalized linear and logistic regressions, and a sample‐weighted decision tree, were used to examine associations between MIMS variables and MetS risk factors. Lower Peak 1MIMS, Peak 30MIMS, and DailyMIMS were observed for every one‐unit increase in the number of risk factors −3.9 [95% CI: −4.3, −3.4] and −2.3 [−2.6, −2.1] MIMS/min, (−672.1 [−772.7, −571.5] MIMS/day, respectively, all p< 0.001). The Decision Tree classified individuals ≥ 46.5 years with a DailyMIMS ≥ 12 245 MIMS/day and a Peak 30MIMS < 45.1 MIMS/min as having MetS (≥ 3 risk factors). Individuals < 46.5 years with a Peak 1MIMS ≥ 62.9 MIMS/min were classified with 0 risk factors. Higher DailyMIMS and PeakMIMS were associated with an absence of MetS risk factors, with a progressive decline as the number of risk factors increased. Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is one of the most significant public health issues worldwide, which increases the risk of various diseases. Epidemiological evidence suggests that newer anthropometric measures, such as a body shape index (ABSI) and body roundness index (BRI) can be used to predict MetS. However, anthropometric measures to predict the risk for MetS should be clarified in each population. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the association between ABSI, BRI, and MetS risk factors among overweight and obese Iranian adults. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 347 overweight and obese individuals [body mass index (BMI) > 25 kg/m2] aged 20–50 years in Tabriz, Iran. Anthropometric measures were assessed, including BMI, waist circumference (WC), and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR). Additionally, ABSI and BRI were calculated based on the collected data. Blood pressure was measured using standard protocols. Body composition also was measured using body impedance analysis (BIA). Enzymatic-colorimetric methods were used to assess serum glucose and lipids, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits were used to measure insulin levels. Results: Participants with higher ABSI exhibited significantly higher systolic blood pressure (SBP) (P = 0.001), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) (P = 0.010), and triglyceride (TG) levels (P < 0.001), along with significantly lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels (P < 0.001). In the crude model, individuals in the highest ABSI tertile (tertile 3) had a higher likelihood of having higher SBP (OR: 1.032; 95% CI: 1.014–1.051) and DBP (OR: 1.33; 95% CI: 1.009–1.058), as well as a significant association with lower HDL-C levels (OR: 0.945; 95% CI: 0.918–0.973). Additionally, both ABSI tertile 2 (OR: 1.005; 95% CI: 1.001–1.008) and tertile 3 (OR: 0.993; 95% CI: 1.003–1.011) were linked to a higher likelihood of having higher TG levels. No significant associations were found between BRI tertiles and MetS risk factors. Conclusion: According to our results, ABSI and BRI are poor predictors of MetS risk variables, in overweight and obese individuals. High ABSI is only slightly linked with high SBP, DBP, and TG and low HDL-C. However, longitudinal and long-term investigations are encouraged to verify the efficacy of these two measures. Background: The presence of hypertension significantly increases the risk of diabetes, particularly type 2 diabetes. Recently, Visceral Adiposity Index (VAI) has been introduced as a straightforward and robust alternative indicator for early detection of metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, and T2DM. Visceral adiposity, more dangerous than subcutaneous fat, is associated with metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases. The VAI and Lipid Accumulation Product (LAP) are indices that quantify visceral fat and lipid overaccumulation, respectively. This study aims to explore the association between VAI, LAP, and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in US adults with hypertension using NHANES data from 2005 to 2018. Methods: We analyzed data from 5,620 participants with hypertension in The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). VAI and LAP were calculated using established formulas. The VAI is calculated based on a combination of waist circumference, body mass index (BMI), triglycerides, and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels. Logistic regression models were applied to evaluate the association between these indices and T2DM, adjusting for potential confounders. Subgroup analyses by age and gender were also conducted to assess variations in risk. Results: In all, 5,620 participants were enrolled in our analysis, with 2,754 (49%) being female, and a mean (standard deviation, SD) age of 57 (15) years. The mean (SD) cumulative average VAI and LAP among all participants was 241 (2.71) and 75 (67), respectively. Totally, higher VAI and LAP indices were significantly associated with an increased risk of T2DM in individuals with hypertension. For VAI, the odds ratios (OR) for T2DM were higher in older adults (≥ 60 years) [95% confidence interval (CI): 1.37, 1.22–1.53, per 1 SD increase] and females [95% confidence interval (CI): 1.39, 1.27–1.52, per 1 SD increase], indicating age and gender differences in risk. Non-linear relationships were observed, suggesting thresholds beyond which the risk of T2DM escalates dramatically. Conclusions: Both VAI and LAP are reliable markers for assessing T2DM risk in individuals with hypertension. Incorporating these indices into clinical practice could enhance the identification of high-risk individuals and facilitate early intervention strategies. Background/Objectives: Studies examining the association between coffee consumption and metabolic syndrome (MetS), considering different coffee types, have reported inconsistent results. We investigated the relationship between coffee consumption and MetS, taking into account coffee types, using data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted from 2016 to 2021 among 14,631 adults aged 19–64 years. Subjects/Methods: We used a 24-h dietary recall method to assess diet, including the type and quantity of coffee consumed. Coffee was categorized into black coffee and coffee with sugar and/or cream (non-drinkers, ≤1, 2–3, and >3 cups/day). Multivariable logistic regression models were utilized to investigate the relationship between coffee consumption and MetS, defined by the harmonized criteria. Results: After adjusting for potential covariates, for women, 2–3 cups/day of black coffee were inversely associated with MetS (OR = 0.66; 95% CI = 0.46–0.96). Three or fewer cups per day of black coffee were inversely associated with low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and elevated triglycerides in women. Coffee consumption was not significantly associated with MetS in men. Consumption of coffee with sugar and/or cream or more than three cups per day of coffee was not significantly associated with MetS overall. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that moderate of 2–3 cups/day of black coffee consumption is inversely associated with MetS in women, possibly due to its favorable impact on HDL-C and triglycerides. Purpose: Vitamin D has a crucial role in our metabolic health. We aimed to examine associations of vitamin D status and its related dietary pattern (DP) with prevalent risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in 9,237 Korean adults aged 19–64 years based on the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Methods: Vitamin D status was examined by serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D). A vitamin D-related DP associated with 25(OH)D levels was derived using reduced rank regression (RRR). Associations of vitamin D status and its related DP with MetS prevalence were examined using multivariable logistic regression models adjusted for potential confounders. Results: Men with sufficient vitamin D status had a 44% lower risk of MetS prevalence (OR: 0.56; 95%CI: 0.36–0.87) compared to those with deficiency. A vitamin D-related DP derived using RRR was characterized by high intakes of vegetables, fish, fruits, and nuts and low intakes of eggs, oils, and mushrooms in this study population. Among men, the DP was significantly associated with a lower risk of MetS prevalence, showing a 12% (95%CI: 4–20%) reduction in risk for a one-unit increase in the DP score. However, there was no significant association among women. Conclusion: The study's findings suggest that a sufficient vitamin D status and a related DP with high intakes of vegetables, fish, fruit, and nuts were associated with the risk of MetS, particularly in Korean male adults. Background: A mismatch between biological and social time, often referred to as social jetlag (SJL), can lead to inadequate sleep and activities or taking meals at times that do not align with our biological rhythms, increasing the risk of metabolic abnormalities. Although the association between sleep and metabolic syndrome (MetS) is well established, the effects of SJL on MetS and the components of MetS in adults remain unclear. Purpose: This study was designed to explore the relationship between SJL and MetS components in adults. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted on studies registered in PubMed, Cochrane, Web of Science, and Embase between the inception of each database until November 15, 2023.We focused on studies designed to evaluate the relationship between SJL and either MetS or its components. Only studies using cross-sectional, prospective, or retrospective designs were considered for inclusion. The relationship between SJL and MetS was depicted as an odds ratio with a corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI). We determined the mean differences and 95% CIs to estimate the associations between SJL and MetS components. The Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklist was used to evaluate the methodological rigor of the selected studies. Data were analyzed using RevMan software Version 5.4. Results: The systematic review included 16 studies, with five analyzed via a meta-analysis covering four outcomes, each based on two to three studies. When comparing SJL of less than 1 hour with SJL of 2 hours or more, the latter showed a higher likelihood of MetS (pooled odds ratio: 1.52). Although a significant decrease in systolic blood pressure (pooled mean differences = −3.52 mmHg, 95% CI [−6.41, −0.64]) and a significant increase in waist circumference (pooled mean differences = 2.17 cm, 95% CI [0.61, 3.73]) were observed, the correlation between SJL and diastolic blood pressure failed to reach statistical significance. Conclusions/Implications for Practice: The meta-analysis conducted in this study found an association between SJL and MetS. Healthcare practitioners should prioritize the management of sleep quality and duration, especially for individuals exhibiting substantial SJL. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) as well as related social costs and efforts is increasing. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between age at menarche and the risk of MetS, obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in women over 30 years, using data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2010-2020). The analysis of 30 916 participants showed that early menarche (before 11 years) significantly increased the risk of obesity, diabetes, and MetS compared with the median age of 14 years. Late menarche (after 17 years) was also linked to MetS and related disorders. The relationship between age at menarche (at <10 years and >19 years) and the risk of MetS and related disorders exhibited a reversed J-shaped (し) pattern characterized by a pronounced increased risk among those who experience early menarche, whereas the increased risk associated with late menarche was less consistent. Emerging scientific studies have supported the hypothesis that exposure to environmental chemicals increases the incidence of diverse human metabolic disorders. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the association between fluoride exposure and metabolic syndrome (MetS) prevalence in people from the Central Region of Mexico. This research included 575 adult individuals. Urinary fluoride concentrations were determined using a potentiometric method. Anthropometric measurements and blood pressure were also acquired. Serum fasting glucose and lipid levels were quantified. For the MetS screening, we used the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (NCEP ATP III) criteria. The mean urinary fluoride levels were 3.50 ± 2.50 mg/L. The prevalence of MetS was approximately 27 and 25% according to NCEP ATP III and IDF criteria, respectively. A multivariate logistic regression analysis showed significant associations (p < 0.05) between urinary fluoride concentrations and MetS occurrence using NCEP ATP III criteria (OR = 1.60; 95% CI 1.05–2.10) and IDF criteria (OR = 1.35; 95% CI 0.95–1.45). Background: This prospective cohort study aimed to investigate the association between ultra-processed food (UPF) and the risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS), as well as to assess whether fruit and vegetable intake and weight change modify this association. Methods: We included 1915 healthy participants who participated in the Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study (TLGS), all of whom had complete demographic, anthropometric, and dietary measurements. A validated food frequency questionnaire was used to assess UPF consumption based on the NOVA classification system. MetS was defined according to the Joint Interim Statement. Multivariable adjusted Cox regression was used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) for MetS events across tertiles of UPF. The effect of fruit and vegetable consumption and weight change on this association was assessed using joint classification by Cox regression. Results: UFP consumption showed no association with MetS risk after adjusting for confounders. However, after adjustment for dietary fiber, fruits, and vegetables, the highest tertile of UPF consumption was positively linked to MetS risk, compared to the lowest tertile. There was a significant interaction between fruit, vegetable, and dietary fiber intake and UPF consumption concerning the risk of MetS (All P values < 0.05). Among individuals consuming less than 248 g/day of fruit, the risk of MetS increased by 54% (confidence interval: 1.13–2.10) in the highest UPF tertile. Consuming vegetables and dietary fiber below the median (258 g/day and 42.2 g/day, respectively) increased the risk of MetS in the third tertile of UPF. However, consuming vegetables and fiber ≥ median intake, reduced the risk of MetS among those with the lowest UPF consumption. Furthermore, the risk of MetS was observed in the third tertile of UPF consumption among individuals with fruit and vegetable consumption < 537 g/day. UPF consumption was not associated with the risk of MetS in different weight change statuses. Summary: Background and Objectives: This study aimed to examine the associations between breastfeeding duration and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in adolescents and to further investigate the role of birth weight for gestational age (GA) on these associations. Methods: A total of 10 275 participants aged 7 to 18 years were included applying multistage cluster random sampling from a Chinese national survey. Birth weight was classified into small for GA (SGA), appropriate for GA (AGA) and large for GA (LGA). Information was collected through a self‐administered questionnaire, physical examination and blood biochemical examination. Multivariable linear regression, logistic regression models, restricted cubic spline models were applied to assess the relationships of breastfeeding duration and MetS with different birth weight for GA. Results: The prevalence of non‐breastfeeding, 0–5, 6–12 and >12 months groups were 16.2%, 23.1%, 42.5% and 18.2%, and the prevalence of SGA and LGA was 11.9% and 12.7%, respectively. Prolonged breastfeeding duration was associated with higher odds of MetS (β: 0.08, 95% CI: 0.03, 0.13), WC (β: 3.49, 95% CI: 2.82, 4.16) and SBP (β: 2.34, 95% CI: 1.80, 2.89). SGA and prolonged breastfeeding synergistically increased MetS risks, but LGA appeared to offset the adverse effects of prolonged breastfeeding. Conclusion: Prolonged breastfeeding may increase children's MetS risks. SGA synergies with prolonged breastfeeding increased MetS burden in children and adolescents, while LGA mitigated the risks. Background/Objectives: Neck circumference (NC) has been proposed as a simple measurement to identify patients with overweight and obesity. It has been found that adipose tissue at the cervical level is associated with the presence of metabolic alterations. The aim of this study was to estimate the association between NC and indicators of Metabolic Syndrome (MS) to subsequently estimate its capacity to identify the risk of MS compared to waist circumference (WC) and Body Mass Index (BMI). Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out with a sample of 286 children 6–9 years old who attended six public primary schools in Jalisco, Mexico. Pearson's correlation coefficients along with sensitivity and specificity tests were performed to analyze the relationship between NC and MS indicators. Odds ratio (OR) and concordance analyses were performed considering the Kappa index. Results: NC showed statistically significant correlations with all MS indicators except for LDL cholesterol and total cholesterol. The cut-off points of NC to identify MS according to sex was >27.4 cm for girls and >29.8 cm for boys. The association of NC with values above the cutoff point and the presence of MS was OR: 21.6 (CI: 7.11–65.74). Background: This study was conducted to assess the prospective association between dietary polyphenols intakes and risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components. Methods: Participants in this study (n = 4559) were selected from among the adults of the Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study (TLGS) with an average follow-up of 5.9 + 2.5 years. Biochemical and anthropometric variables were measured at baseline and follow-up examinations. A reliable and valid semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire was used to evaluate dietary intakes. The incidence of MetS and its components in relation to polyphenols and its subclasses (phenolic acids, flavonoids, lignans, and stilbenes) was evaluated using multivariable Cox proportional hazard regression models. Results: Of the 4559 subjects who enrolled in the present study, 1765 were male aged 38.6 + 14.2 y and 2794 were female aged 35.9 + 11.7 y. The hazard ratios of MetS were 25% lower in Q2 (HR, 95% CI: 0.75, 0.64-0.88), 22% lower in Q3 (HR, 95% CI: 0.78, 0.65-0.94) and 24% lower in Q4 (HR, 95% CI: 0.76, 0.61-0.95) in comparison to Q1, whereas the results for subclasses of polyphenol were non-significant. The risk of high blood pressure (BP) reduced from quartiles 1 to 4 for phenolic acid (HR: 1.00, 0.88, 0.79, 0.80, Ptrend = 0.03). The risk of low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) increased across quartiles of phenolic acid (HR: 1.00, 1.22, 1.07, 1.30, Ptrend = 0.02). Conclusion: This study highlights the potential protective role of total dietary polyphenols in the prevention of MetS. Visceral fat predicts the development of metabolic syndrome (MetS), but it is not known whether the visceral to subcutaneous fat area ratio (VSR) measured using imaging predicts MetS risk as well or better. Thus, we aimed to examine if VSR predicted future risk of MetS over 10-years. We followed 329 participants in the longitudinal Japanese American Community Diabetes Study without MetS at baseline for its development over 10 years. Intra-abdominal (VFA) and subcutaneous abdominal (SFA) fat areas were measured at baseline and 10-years and used to calculate VSR. Logistic regression was used to estimate the odds of incident MetS by baseline and 10-year change in VSR and other adipose depots with and without adjustment for baseline MetS features. Areas under ROC curves were calculated in predicting the development of MetS. 99 participants developed MetS over 10-years. Logistic regression models showed a higher odds of incident MetS with greater VSR and 10-year VSR change (OR = 1.67, 95 % CI 1.11–2.51; OR = 1.46, 95 % CI 1.06–2.01, respectively) adjusting for age, sex, and MetS features at baseline. However, VSR alone performed poorly at discriminating (AUROC 0.5807) compared to VFA (AUROC 0.6970, p < 0.001) or a logistic model incorporating VFA and SFA (AUROC 0.7221, p = 0.001). VSR and VFA predict 10-year MetS risk in Japanese Americans, confirming the importance of relatively greater fat distribution in the visceral depot in the development of MetS. However, VSR is a weaker predictor of MetS development and provides less information compared to VFA alone, and its further use in predicting metabolic abnormalities is not recommended. • Metabolic syndrome (MetS), a major global problem, predisposes to both T2DM and ASCVD. • There is a paucity of data on the TG-glucose (TyG) index in the US population,despite it being a very reliable marker of insulin resistance in other countries. • We compared the TyG index to HOMA-IR as a discriminant of MetS in the US population (NHANES data). • It is a superior predictor of MetS than HOMA-IR in the US population and is more cost-effective. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a cluster of cardio-metabolic features portending an increased risk for both type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and premature atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) is a widely used surrogate measure of insulin resistance. The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is another validated measure of insulin resistance that predicts both diabetes and cardiovascular disease in low and medium-income countries, but only diabetes in high income countries. Due to the paucity of data on the TyG index in the US population, we compared the validity of the TyG index and HOMA-IR in predicting MetS. Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 2005 and 2018 on Non-Hispanic White (NHW), Hispanic American (HA), and African American (AA) individuals (n = 5380) aged 20–80 years were used for analysis. Individuals were classified as having MetS based on three or more of its components. HOMA-IR and the TyG index were determined from fasting samples. Both the TyG index and HOMA-IR were significantly increased in MetS and increased significantly with increasing severity of the syndrome. Also both indices correlated significantly with all 5 features of MetS, hsCRP and non-HDL-C. ROC-AUC analysis for TyG index was significantly greater than that of HOMA-IR in predicting MetS: 0.87 (95 % CI 0.85–0.88) versus 0.82 (95 % CI 0.81–0.83) respectively, p < 0.0001. This was not evident for the small AA subgroup. The TyG index outperformed HOMA-IR in predicting MetS, a proxy for both T2DM and ASCVD, in a general US population and is a valuable biomarker. Introduction: The relationship between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), obesity, various metabolic variables, and psychosocial outcomes is complex. No studies have examined the association between these predictors and disease-specific distress related to heart disease (cardiac distress). We aimed to study the association between OSA and cardiac distress using a network analysis framework. Methods: This secondary analysis of an observational cross-sectional study conducted in 2021 consisted of 405 hospital- and community-sourced adults from Australia and the United States who reported an acute coronary event (such as a myocardial infarction, or procedures such as coronary artery bypass graft surgery, or percutaneous coronary intervention) in the previous 12 months. Participants were surveyed in relation to sociodemographic variables, clinical risk factors, comorbidities (including time since event, OSA, obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia), and cardiac distress (reported by the Cardiac Distress Inventory Short-Form). These data were subjected to bootstrapped exploratory graph analysis (EGA), which identifies the dimensions of variables that cluster together. Variables that contributed to the EGA dimensions were used to predict cardiac distress using multivariable logistic regression. Results: Three distinct dimensions were identified by the EGA: Dimension 1 – clinical risk factors and conditions including OSA, Dimension 2 – variables related to the heart event, and Dimension 3 – variables closely related to cardiac distress. For Dimension 1, only OSA was a significant predictor of cardiac distress in the fully adjusted model (adjusted odds ratio = 2.08, 95% confidence interval = 1.02–4.25, P = 0.044). Further analysis indicated that OSA was associated with physical challenges and changes in roles and relationships. Conclusions: This study identified that self-reported OSA is associated with cardiac distress, particularly distress that was associated with physical challenges and changes to roles and relationships. These findings imply that OSA could potentially increase stress in a relationship; however, distress was only assessed from the perspective of the participant with OSA in this study. EGA is a useful method for describing complex associations between diverse predictor variables such as OSA and cardiac distress. Background: Limited studies have investigated the relationship between Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) and metabolic syndrome (MetS), yielding inconclusive results. This study aimed to examine the relationship between AMH levels and MetS and its components in women from a general population. Methods: This prospective study recruited 769 women. Generalized Estimating Equation (GEE) models analyzed longitudinal trends of MetS components. Cox proportional hazard models evaluated effect of age-specific AMH tertiles on MetS occurrence, adjusting for confounders. Results: The GEE analysis indicated that women in the third tertile exhibited higher mean FPG compared to those in the first tertile of age-specific AMH (3 mg/dL; 95% CI: 0.40, 5.60; P = 0.024); however, this association became non-significant after adjustment. Notably, the second tertile showed a significant decrease in FPG mean changes over time (-0.69 mg/dL; 95% CI: -1.31, -0.07; P Interaction = 0.030). Women in the second and third tertiles of age-specific AMH demonstrated lower mean HDL-C compared to the first tertile (-2.96 mg/dL; 95% CI: -4.67, -1.26; P < 0.001 and -2.63 mg/dL; 95% CI: -4.31, -0.96; P = 0.002, respectively). The association between HDL-C changes and the second tertile remained significant after adjustment (-1.91 mg/dL; 95% CI: -3.68, -0.14; P = 0.034). No significant associations were observed between age-specific AMH tertiles and TG and SBP/DBP. Cox models revealed no significant differences in the hazard ratio of MetS between AMH tertiles after adjusting for confounders. Background: The study aimed to explore the relationship between low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) genetic variants and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and its complications, including cardiovascular diseases (CVD), insulin resistance (IR), and metabolic syndrome (MS). Method: 4329 individuals with suspected OSA who underwent a comprehensive assessment of anthropometric, biochemical, and polysomnography (PSG) data, along with 30 LDL-C single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were enrolled. The 10-year Framingham CVD risk score (FRS), IR and MS were evaluated for each subject. Linear regression and logistic regression were utilized to examine the correlations among these variables. Results: After the Benjamini-Hochberg correction, linear regression results indicated positive correlations between variants rs3741297 and rs629301 with FRS (β = 0.031, PBH=0.002; β = 0.026, PBH=0.015). Logistic regression revealed that rs3741297 increased MS risk among total subjects [OR = 1.67 (95% CI:1.369–2.038), PBH=1.32 × 10− 5] and increased IR risk in females [OR = 3.475 (95% CI:1.653–7.307), PBH=0.03]. In males, rs2642438 decreased MS risk [OR = 0.81 (95% CI:0.703–0.933), PBH=0.045]. Conclusions: The rs3741297 variant correlated with susceptibility to CVD, IR, and MS in the OSA population. OSA, CVD, IR and MS share a potentially common genetic background, which may promote precision medicine. • Food insecure women are more likely to have metabolic syndrome than food secure women. • Very low food security was not associated with metabolic syndrome for men. • More research is needed to fully understand the role of gender in food insecurity and chronic disease. The primary objective of this study was to examine the association between food security status and metabolic syndrome (MetS) using a nationally representative dataset. We hypothesized that food insecurity would be associated with an increased odds of having MetS. This was a cross-sectional analysis of data from the 2005–2006 to 2015–2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data collection cycles. Food security was measured using the US Food Security Survey Module. Presence of MetS was determined using the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III criteria. The association between food insecurity and MetS was examined using logistic regression models stratified by sex and adjusted for poverty to income ratio, age, race, marital status, educational attainment, smoking status, and body mass index. After adjusting for covariates, men with marginal (odds ratio, 1.64; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.22–2.20) and low (odds ratio, 1.33; 95% CI, 1.02–1.73) food security had a higher odds of having MetS than men with full food security; however, this association was lost among men with very low food security. For women, very low food security was associated with a 1.61 times greater odds of having MetS (95% CI, 1.16–2.25). These results suggest that food insecurity is generally associated with an increased prevalence of MetS for women, but not necessarily for men. These findings highlight the need to address rising food insecurity rates, while also highlighting the need for further research to fully elucidate the role of gender and sex in food insecurity and chronic disease. Introduction: The incidence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in people living with HIV is significantly higher than in people without HIV. MetS is not only a major driver of cardiovascular disease (CVD) but is also closely related to the development of chronic kidney disease (CKD). The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of and risk factors for MetS and to further understand the degree of damage to target organs. Methods: This was a cross‐sectional descriptive study conducted at Chongqing Public Health Medical Center, China. Information was collected via questionnaire survey, physical examination, and laboratory tests. We used the China Diabetes Society guidelines to define MetS. Pooled cohort equations were calculated to compare CVD risk in the next 10 years in people living with HIV aged ≥40 years with or without MetS. We used Student's t‐test, the chi‐squared test, Fisher's exact test, binary logistic regression, and multiple linear regression in the statistical analysis. Results: The study included 979 people living with HIV, including 13 who have experienced CVD, receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART). The median age was 43.0 years, 20.9% were female, and the median ART time was 45.0 months. The prevalence of MetS was 33.9%. The components of MetS criteria were hyperglycaemia (50.4%), hypertriglyceridaemia (48.4%), hypertension (46.8%), low concentrations of high‐density lipoprotein cholesterol (28.2%), and abdominal obesity (25.0%). Higher body mass index (odds ratio [OR] 1.266; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.203–1.333), higher total cholesterol (OR 1.267; 95% CI 1.011–1.588), high alcohol consumption (OR 1.973; 95% CI 1.009–3.859), and family history of diabetes (OR 1.726; 95% CI 1.075–2.770) were independent risk factors for MetS. Compared with the non‐MetS group, the MetS group had a higher rate of urine albumin (23.8% vs 14.8%, p = 0.001), and the estimated glomerular filtration rate <90 mL/min/1.73 m2 (18.37% vs. 12.8%, p = 0.020) and β2‐microglobin (p = 0.004) increased more markedly in the MetS group. Regarding the risk of developing CVD events in the next 10 years, 38.5% of those in the MetS group were at high or very high risk, which was significantly higher than in the non‐MetS group (p < 0.001). In addition, age (p < 0.001) and sex (p = 0.002) are independent risk factors for developing CVD events in the next 10 years. Conclusions: The prevalence of MetS in people living with HIV on ART is high in Chongqing, China. Risk factors for the development of MetS are high alcohol consumption, family history of diabetes, higher body mass index, and higher total cholesterol levels. Neurocognitive impairment and metabolic syndrome (MetS) are prevalent in persons with HIV (PWH). We examined disparities in HIV-associated neurocognitive function between Hispanic and non-Hispanic White older PWH, and the role of MetS in explaining these disparities. Participants included 116 community-dwelling PWH aged 50–75 years enrolled in a cohort study in southern California [58 Hispanic (53% Spanish speaking) and 58 age-comparable non-Hispanic White; overall group: age: M = 57.9, standard deviation (SD) = 5.7; education (years): M = 13, SD = 3.4; 83% male, 58% AIDS, 94% on antiretroviral therapy]. Global neurocognition was derived from T-scores adjusted for demographics (age, education, sex, ethnicity, language) on a battery of 10 cognitive tests. MetS was ascertained via standard criteria that considered central obesity, and fasting elevated triglycerides, low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and elevated glucose, or medical treatment for these conditions. Covariates examined included sociodemographic, psychiatric, substance use and HIV disease characteristics. Compared with non-Hispanic Whites, Hispanics showed worse global neurocognitive function (Cohen's d = 0.56, p < 0.05) and had higher rates of MetS (38% vs. 56%, p < 0.05). A stepwise regression model including ethnicity and significant covariates showed Hispanic ethnicity was the sole significant predictor of worse global neurocognition (B = −3.82, SE = 1.27, p < 0.01). A model also including MetS showed that both Hispanic ethnicity (B = −3.39, SE = 1.31, p = 0.01) and MetS (B = −2.73, SE = 1.31, p = 0.04) were independently associated with worse neurocognition. In conclusion, findings indicate that increased MetS is associated with worse neurocognitive function in both Hispanic and non-Hispanic White older PWH, but does not explain neurocognitive disparities. Background: The World Health Organization and United Nations Children's Fund recommend exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) for the first six months of an infant's life. Although evidence suggests that maintaining breastfeeding has positive impacts on glucose and lipid metabolism in postpartum women with a history of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), no study has investigated whether such effects differ between breastfeeding intensities. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of maintaining breastfeeding on prediabetes, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and metabolic syndrome (MetS) six months postpartum in women with GDM. This study also examined the potential variations in glucometabolic outcomes between EBF at six months and partial breastfeeding at six months. Methods: This prospective cohort study included 130 women with recent GDM who experienced live births between 7 September 2020 and 31 January 2023 at a university hospital in Bangkok, Thailand. All the women were free of T2DM and MetS at baseline (six weeks postpartum). We followed up these women six months postpartum to assess their breastfeeding practices (EBF at six months, partial breastfeeding at six months, or not maintaining breastfeeding) and evaluate their progression to prediabetes, T2DM, and MetS. Maintaining breastfeeding was defined as breastfeeding for six months. EBF was determined using the "recall since birth" method. Results: Of the 130 participants included, the rates of prediabetes, T2DM, and MetS six months postpartum were 33% (n = 43), 2% (n = 3), and 17% (n = 22), respectively. In the unadjusted model, maintaining breastfeeding was associated with a reduction in the risks of prediabetes and MetS but not T2DM. After adjusting for potential confounders, maintaining breastfeeding was a significant protective factor only for prediabetes. The adjusted risk ratios and 95% confidence intervals were 0.54 (0.29, 0.99) for prediabetes and 0.47 (0.19, 1.06) for MetS. When EBF at six months and partial breastfeeding at six months were separately analyzed, the risks of prediabetes and MetS differed between the two groups. In the EBF at six months-to-partial breastfeeding at six months comparison, the adjusted risk ratios (95% confidence intervals) of prediabetes and MetS were 0.46 (0.22, 0.97) vs. 0.79 (0.25, 2.49) and 0.34 (0.11, 0.99) vs. 0.69 (0.22, 2.07), respectively. Conclusions: Maintaining breastfeeding reduced the risk of prediabetes and MetS, but not of T2DM, six months postpartum; these effects were significant only with EBF. These findings indicate that supporting maternal efforts to practice EBF for six months may improve women's health after GDM. Background: Consumption of dietary fiber has been suggested as an important aspect of a healthy diet to reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS), including cardiovascular disease. The role of fiber intake in MetS might differ by individual genetic susceptibility. APOA5 encodes a regulator of plasma triglyceride levels, which impacts the related mechanisms of MetS. This study investigated the association between dietary fiber and the risk of MetS, assessing their associations according to APOA5 genetic variants. Methods: A total of 1985 participants aged 30–55 years were included from a cross-sectional study based on the Korean Medicine Daejeon Citizen Cohort study at baseline (2017–2019). Dietary fiber intake was measured using a semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire. The APOA5 polymorphisms (rs2266788 A > G, rs662799 A > G, and rs651821 T > C) were genotyped using the Asia Precision Medicine Research Array. Logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). Results: A higher consumption of dietary fiber was associated with a lower prevalence of MetS (P = 0.025). Among the components of MetS, an inverse association with dietary fiber was observed in increased waist circumference (OR, 95% CI = 0.60, 0.41–0.88, P for trend = 0.009) and elevated triglycerides (OR, 95% CI = 0.69, 0.50–0.96, P for trend = 0.012). Regarding the interaction with APOA5 genetic variants, a stronger association with dietary fiber intake was shown in G allele carriers of rs662799 than in A/A carriers (OR, 95% CI = 2.34, 1.59–3.44, P for interaction = 0.024) and in C allele carriers of rs651821 than in T/T carriers (OR, 95% CI = 2.35, 1.59–3.46, P for interaction = 0.027). Conclusions: The findings of this study suggest that the benefits of dietary fiber on the risk of MetS could be modified by genetic variants of the APOA5 gene, providing a more effective strategy for preventing MetS. Purpose: Studies evaluating food insecurity and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and significant hepatic fibrosis are currently scarce. We evaluated the characteristics of food insecure individuals and whether food insecurity was associated with MASLD and significant hepatic fibrosis in the US population. Methods: In this cross-sectional study from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2017–2018, 3441 participants with complete data were enrolled. We defined MASLD and significant hepatic fibrosis (≥ F2) by transient elastography in the absence of other causes of liver disease. The detailed questionnaire assessed and categorized food security as high, marginal, low, and very low food security. Results: Food-insecure subjects were more likely to be female, younger, more impoverished, non-Hispanic blacks, Hispanics, and less likely to be educated, married, and physically active. Food insecurity increased the odds of the prevalence of MASLD by 42% (odds ratio [OR]: 1.42, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.12–1.78) after adjustment for demographic, lifestyle, and metabolic risk factors. The addition of diabetes and obesity did not change this association (OR: 1.36, 95% CI: 1.03–1.78). The multivariable model showed an independent relationship between food insecurity and significant hepatic fibrosis (OR: 1.40, 95% CI: 1.04–1.88) after adjustment for demographic, lifestyle, and metabolic risk factors, although the association was attenuated and changed insignificantly after adjustment for diabetes and obesity. Conclusions: Food insecurity was associated with higher odds for MASLD. Background Weight gain following initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) is common. We assessed the impact of changes in weight in the year following ART initiation with subsequent cardiometabolic disease among AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) participants. Methods Linear regression models were fit to examine the association between change in weight/waist circumference (WC) in weeks 0–48 and change in metabolic parameters in weeks 0–48 and 48–96. Cox proportional hazard models were fit to examine the association between changes in weight/WC in weeks 0–48 and diabetes mellitus (DM), metabolic syndrome, or cardiometabolic and cardiovascular events after week 48. Results Participants (N = 2624) were primarily male (81%) and non-White (60%). Mean weight gain from 0–48 weeks was 3.6 kg (SD 7.3); 130 participants developed DM; 360 metabolic syndrome; 424 any cardiometabolic event; 28 any cardiovascular event, over 480 weeks of follow-up. In adjusted models, total cholesterol increased by 0.63 mg/dL (95% confidence interval [CI] [.38,.089]) and LDL by 0.39 mg/dL (0.19, 0.59) per 1 kg increase in weight from weeks 0 to48. Participants who experienced >10% weight gain (vs −5% to 5%) had an increased risk of DM (hazard ratio [HR] 2.01, 95% CI [1.30, 3.08]), metabolic syndrome (HR 2.24, 95% CI [1.55, 2.62]), and cardiometabolic outcomes (HR 1.54, 95% CI [1.22, 1.95]). Participants who lost more than 5% of their baseline weight had a lower risk of incident metabolic syndrome (HR 0.67, 95% CI [0.42, 1.07]). Trends for WC were similar. Conclusions Weight and body composition changes in the first year following ART initiation are associated with contemporaneous changes in metabolic parameters and subsequent cardiometabolic disease. Background: L-Leucine (Leu) supplementation may benefit fat-free mass (FFM) per se and glucose metabolism. Objectives: To determine whether Leu supplementation during energy restriction blunted the loss of FFM, enhanced the loss of fat mass (FM) and improved glucose tolerance. Design: Thirty-seven adults, aged 20–65 years, with increased waist circumference and at least one other metabolic syndrome (MetS) component, were selected. We employed a two-arm parallel, double blind, randomized control trial (RCT) design. Participants were randomly assigned to an intervention group (leucine – 3 g/d) or placebo (lactose - 2.67 g/d), while following an individualised energy restricted diet for an 8-week period. Detailed body composition (DEXA), oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), insulin and components of MetS were measured before and after the trial. Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) assessed the effect of Leu on an intention-to-treat (ITT) principle. Bootstrapping method with 1000 bootstrap samples was used to derive parameter estimates, standard errors, p-values, and 95% confidence intervals for all outcomes. Results: Adjusted for baseline values and other covariates, FFM (p = 0.045) and lean tissue mass (LTM) (p = 0.050) were significantly higher following Leu. These outcomes were modified by a significant treatment x sex interaction that indicated Leu had the greater effect in men. However, on adjustment for body composition changes, there was no difference in insulin sensitivity, oral glucose tolerance, or change in MetS components following Leu. Conclusion: Short-term leucine supplementation during energy restriction resulted in a greater preservation of FFM and LTM particularly in men, but did not impact glucose metabolism. Background: Antiretroviral therapy‐associated adverse effects and comorbidities are still pervasive in people living with HIV, especially metabolic syndrome (MetS). We investigated the age‐dependent prevalence of components of MetS and insulin resistance in children and adolescents living with HIV (CALWH). Methods: A cross‐sectional pilot study of CALWH treated at the Baylor Uganda Clinical Centre of Excellence in Kampala, Uganda, May to August 2021. The primary outcome of MetS was defined by both the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the Adult Treatment Panel (ATP III) criteria. We estimated the prevalence of MetS and its components for all participants and by the stratification factors. Results: We enrolled 90 children and adolescents, aged 6 to <10 years (n = 30), 10 to <16 years (n = 30), and ≥ 16 to <19 years (n = 30). Fifty‐one percent were females. The estimated prevalence of MetS was 1.11% (1 of 90) using either IDF or ATPIII criteria for all participants, and 3.33% in the oldest age group. Notably, while only one among study participants met the criterion based on having central obesity or blood pressure, over 55% of participants had one or more IDF component, with 47% having low high‐density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. Two participants (6.67%) in the group aged 10 to <16 years met one of the definitions for insulin resistance (IR) using the Homeostatic Model Assessment (HOMA‐IR) index. For every 1‐year increase in age, HOMA‐IR index increased by 0.04 (95% confidence interval: 0.01–0.08; p = 0.02). Conclusions: With increasing survival of CALWH into adulthood, lifetime exposure to ART, the frequency of MetS in this population may rise, increasing the lifetime risk for associated health problems. Objectives: This study investigated the relationship between living arrangements and metabolic syndrome (MetS) risk in the adult population in the Republic of Korea. Methods: The samples were derived from the data collected during the second year of the seventh Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The study targeted a total of 6,265 adults who were aged 20 years and above, and multiple logistic regression analysis was conducted. Living arrangements were classified into 4 categories: single-person households, 1-generation households, 2-generation households, and other family types. MetS was identified by the presence of at least 3 out of the 5 National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III criteria. Results: For men, the odds ratio (ORs) for MetS in 1- and 2-generation households, compared to single-person households, were 0.92 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.55-1.54) and 0.97 (95% CI, 0.58-1.62), respectively. The OR for other types of households was 0.96 (95% CI, 0.79-1.17). For women, the OR for MetS in 1- and 2-generation households, compared to single-person households, were 1.52 (95% CI, 1.15-2.01) and 1.29 (95% CI, 1.01-1.67), respectively. Conclusion: Our study suggests that a national strategy involving tailored interventions for women living in high-risk conditions is necessary to reduce the risk of MetS in Korean women. Simple Summary: Survivors of childhood brain tumors, because of the treatments they have undergone, have a greater risk of dying earlier from cardiovascular causes compared to the general population. The objective of this study was to evaluate differences between cardiovascular risk biomarkers and cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) results from childhood brain tumor survivors and healthy controls. We found worse CPET performance in survivors associated with higher endothelin-1 values compared to controls. Correlation analysis showed an inverse relationship between CPET results and leptin, emphasizing the role of radiotherapy as a possible cause in the genesis of a greater cardiovascular risk in survivors of childhood brain tumors. In recent decades, the improvement of treatments and the adoption of therapeutic protocols of international cooperation has led to an improvement in the survival of children affected by brain tumors. However, in parallel with the increase in survival, long-term side effects related to treatments have been observed over time, including the activation of chronic inflammatory processes and metabolic alterations, which can facilitate the onset of metabolic syndrome and increased cardiovascular risk. The aim of this study was to find possible statistically significant differences in the serum concentrations of early biomarkers of metabolic syndrome and in the results of cardiopulmonary exercise testing between survivors of childhood brain tumors and healthy controls. This is a prospective and observational study conducted on a group of 14 male patients who survived childhood brain tumors compared with the same number of healthy controls. The concentrations of early metabolic syndrome biomarkers [adiponectin, leptin, TNF-α, IL-1, IL-6, IL-10, endothelin-1, apolipoprotein B, and lipoprotein (a)] were measured and a cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) was performed. Results: Childhood brain tumor survivors performed worse on average than controls on the CPET. Furthermore, they showed higher endothelin-1 values than controls (p = 0.025). The CPET results showed an inverse correlation with leptin. The differences found highlight the greater cardiovascular risk of brain tumor survivors, and radiotherapy could be implicated in the genesis of this greater cardiovascular risk. Introduction: Metabolic syndrome is a common disorder that puts patients at high risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and mortality. To our knowledge, there is no published study in Pub Med which evaluated both lifestyle and metabolic syndrome in hemodialysis patients. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and investigate the potential risk factors in hemodialysis patients. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted on 204 patients enrolled conveniently. National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III criteria considered for Metabolic Syndrome. Demographics, lifestyle, and disease characteristics were gathered. The relationship between metabolic syndrome and its severity with independent variables was investigated through multivariable multivariate logistic and linear regressions. Results: The mean (SD) age was 55 (14) years and 42% were women. 42.6% had metabolic syndrome. Low high-density lipoprotein (HDL), high fasting blood sugar, high blood pressure (BP), increased waist circumference (WC), and high triglyceride were observed in decreasing order of frequency in 54.4%, 44.1%, 38.7%, 33.3% 28.9% of patients, respectively. The logistic regression model revealed significant associations between metabolic syndrome and physical activity (OR = 0.85, 95% CI: 0.74-0.97), mood (OR = 1.04, 95% CI: 1.002-1.078), age (OR = 1.023, 95% CI: 1.001-1.046), and missed work (OR = 0.86, 95% CI: 0.76-0.97). The linear regression model revealed significant associations between metabolic syndrome severity score and physical activity (B = -0.12, 95% CI: -0.21-0.02) and sleep quality (B = 0.017, 95% CI: 0.001-0.033). Conclusion: Poorer sleep quality, lower physical activity, lower mood status, and older age were associated with higher odds of metabolic syndrome/metabolic syndrome severity score in hemodialysis patients. Meat is not only a source of several nutrients but also a proposed risk factor for several non-communicable diseases. Here, we describe the totality of evidence for the role of meat intake for chronic disease outcomes, discuss potential mechanistic pathways, knowledge gaps, and limitations of the literature. Use of the scoping review is based on a de novo systematic review (SR) and meta-analysis on the association between poultry intake and cardiovascular disease (CVD) and type 2 diabetes (T2D), qualified SRs (as defined in the Nordic Nutrition Recommendations 2023 project) on meat intake and cancer by the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF), the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), and a systematic literature search of SRs and meta-analyses. The quality of the SRs was evaluated using a modified AMSTAR 2 tool, and the strength of evidence was evaluated based on a predefined criteria developed by the WCRF. The quality of the SRs was on average critically low. Our findings indicate that the evidence is too limited for conclusions for most of the chronic disease outcomes. However, findings from qualified SRs indicate strong evidence that processed meat increases the risk of colorectal cancer and probable evidence that red meat (unprocessed, processed, or both) increases the risk. The evidence suggests that both unprocessed red meat and processed meat (also including processed poultry meat) are probable risk factors for CVD mortality and stroke, and that total red meat and processed meat are risk factors for CHD. We found no sufficient evidence suggesting that unprocessed red meat, processed red meat, total red meat, or processed meat (including red and white meat) would be protective of any chronic disease. There was also no sufficient evidence to conclude on protective effect of poultry on any chronic diseases; effects on the risk of CVD, stroke, and T2D, to any direction, were regarded as unlikely. Aim: To examine the effect of periodontitis on the development of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and MetS components. Materials and Methods: This study included 4761 participants aged 30–74 years who underwent health examinations at both baseline and 8‐year follow‐up. The Japanese MetS criteria were used for diagnosis. The Community Periodontal Index was used to assess periodontal status. The association between periodontal status and MetS incidence was examined by Poisson regression analysis. Results: Multivariate analysis revealed that individuals with a ≥6 mm periodontal pocket had a significantly higher relative risk (RR) for MetS onset, as compared to individuals without deep periodontal pockets (adjusted RR 1.30, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.01–1.67). Compared to individuals without a deep periodontal pocket, individuals with a ≥6 mm periodontal pocket had significantly higher RRs for developing two components of MetS; the RRs were 1.25 (95% CI: 1.01–1.56) for abdominal obesity and 1.39 (95% CI: 1.03–1.86) for hyperglycaemia. Conclusions: Individuals with periodontitis had a significantly higher risk of MetS onset, possibly due to the influence of periodontitis on abdominal obesity and hyperglycaemia. Background Despite acknowledging the influence of various lifestyle and metabolic risk factors on hypertension, it remains uncertain to identify the primary contributors and differentiate which modifiable risk factors mediate the causal effects of hypertension. We aimed to examine the hierarchical association of eight prominent lifestyle and metabolic risk factors, along with demographic variables, with hypertension in adults and to explore the mediating effects of modifiable metabolic risk factors on hypertension. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted in 46 low- and middle-income countries using the World Health Organization (WHO) STEPwise approach to non-communicable disease risk factor surveillance from 2002 to 2020. In a sample of 179535 non-pregnant adults, we assessed the weighted population-attributable risk percentages (PAR%) for hypertension associated with eight risk factors. Additionally, we investigated the mediating role of metabolic risk factors on the effects of lifestyle risk factors on hypertension. Results After adjusting for the sample weight in each country, 26.7% of participants had hypertension. The prevalence of hypertension was highest in those aged ≥65 years, with obesity-associated hypertension (45.7%) exceeding the rates for overweight (32.2%) and non-overweight individuals (18.2%). These eight risk factors collectively explain 83.7% of the PAR% associated with hypertension adjusted for the communal variance. Among the modifiable factors, obesity contributed to a weighted PAR% of 38.2%, while sedentary behaviour and low physical activity combined accounted for a weighted PAR% of 3.1%. Overweight/obesity played a predominant mediating role in the correlation between lifestyle risk factors and systolic and diastolic blood pressure, with the indirect effect accounting for approximately 25–64% and 13–80% of the total effect, respectively. Conclusions These findings offer new insights into the modified risk factors associated with hypertension in adults in low- and middle-income countries, highlighting the crucial role of maintaining a normal body weight for the effective prevention and management of hypertension. Background Compliance with guidelines regarding monitoring of metabolic adverse effects induced by antipsychotics has been consistently low. We characterised and evaluated the quality of institutional quality improvement (QI) interventions designed to address disparities between guidelines and real-world practices. Furthermore, we assessed the impact of these interventions on the screening and management of metabolic risks for inpatients receiving treatment with antipsychotic medications. Methods We conducted a meta-analysis of institutional QI intervention studies aimed at improving antipsychotic-associated metabolic risk monitoring in hospitalised mental disease patients. Relevant studies were identified through searches conducted in the Embase and PubMed databases, as well as by reviewing previous reviews and meta-analyses. Quantitative analyses were performed, calculating odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) to assess the impact of QI programmes on guideline adherence in clinical practice. Results We identified 12 intervention studies (n=10128 and n=2667 patients in the preand post-intervention groups, respectively) and included them in our meta-analysis. QI interventions demonstrated effectiveness in bridging the guideline-practice gap in monitoring antipsychotic-induced metabolic adverse effects, as supported by the ORs and 95% CIs for post-intervention monitoring of plasma glucose, lipids, and blood pressure (BP) vs the pre-intervention period being OR=6.90 (95% CI=1.51–31.48), OR=5.39 (95% CI=4.01–7.24), and OR=4.81 (95% CI=1.23–18.79), respectively. Only 33.3% (4/12) of studies reported screening rates for all four metabolic parameters (plasma glucose, lipids, weight/body mass index (BMI), and BP). The median rates for metabolic screening of plasma glucose, lipids, and BP increased from 51.0–80.0%, 28.7–66.7%, and 91.7–95.8%, respectively. Up to 66.7% (8/12) of intervention studies lacked follow-up measures to treat or manage identified risks in hospitalised psychiatric patients, such as patient referrals, prescription of medications, and switching of antipsychotics. The odds of monitoring weight/BMI and glucose were greatest when QI programmes involved the participation of multidisciplinary health care professionals and patients, yielding OR=3.35 (95% CI=2.45–4.59) and OR=57.51 (95% CI=24.11–137.21), respectively. Conclusions Institutional QI interventions were effective in enhancing monitoring practices in alignment with established guidelines for metabolic risk screening among hospitalised patients with mental disorders maintained on antipsychotic medications. Future institutional QI programmes should incorporate multidisciplinary strategies involving patient engagement and extend their focus beyond screening to incorporate follow-up risk management strategies once risks have been identified. Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a prevalent health condition in Taiwan that places individuals at higher risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and stroke. Therefore, the identification of risk factors associated with MetS is crucial. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of uric acid and MetS in a Taiwanese community with a middle-aged and elderly population. Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled residents aged 50–90 years living in one community. All of the subjects received a standardized personal interview, including a structured questionnaire, anthropometric measurements, and blood samples were collected for laboratory testing. MetS was defined as excess waist circumference, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high serum triglycerides, and low serum high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Multiple logistic regression models were used to evaluate uric acid tertiles associated with MetS. Results: A total of 400 subjects were enrolled in the analysis. The overall prevalence of MetS was 35.8%. The prevalence of MetS increased gradually with increasing serum uric acid levels (p value < 0.001). A significant association between uric acid and cardiometabolic risk factors was confirmed, with a Pearson's correlation coefficient for waist circumference of 0.30 (p < 0.001), a coefficient for systolic blood pressure of 0.13 (p = 0.01), a coefficient for triglycerides of 0.33 (p < 0.001), and a coefficient for high-density lipoprotein of −0.30 (p < 0.001). The adjusted odds ratio (OR) of the high uric acid tertile level for MetS was 2.48 (95% CI = 1.31–4.71, p = 0.01). The area under the ROC curve (AUC) for uric acid in predicting MetS was 0.621 (p < 0.001). Conclusions: The prevalence of MetS in our study population is high. Background: Several studies have highlighted the possible role of advanced oxidation protein products (AOPPs) in promotion of metabolic syndrome (MetS). However, due to inconsistencies in this field, we aimed to quantitatively summarize the results of studies that evaluated the association between AOPPs, with MetS indices among adult population. Methods: In a systematic search from PubMed, Embase, and Scopus electronic databases until 15 August 2022 without language restriction, a total of 1225 articles were obtained. Finally, after duplicate removal of 632 articles and removing of 537 articles according to title/abstract, seven article was included in final meta-analysis. These articles all had observational design, were performed in adults aged more than 18 years old, and evaluated the association between circulating AOPPs and MetS. Results: In our meta-analysis, circulating AOPPs was 17.51 µmol/L higher in individuals with MetS versus individuals without MetS (WMD: 17.512; CI: 12.084, 22.939; p = 0.001). Gender, age, and sample size were recognized as possible heterogeneity sources in subgrouping and meta-regression. No evidence of publication bias was reported. Conclusion: According to the results of the current meta-analysis, higher circulating AOPPs concentrations might be associated with MetS risk among adults. Background: Metabolic syndrome represents aggregation of risk factors associated with an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Assessing its incidence is an effective way for estimating the future burden of DM and ASCVD and understanding their secular trends and effect of public health measures on halting the evolution of risk factors. The present study aimed to estimate the incidence of metabolic syndrome and its predictors using a population-based cohort. Methods: A subset of Chandigarh Urban Diabetes Study cohort (n = 1023) without diabetes or metabolic syndrome was prospectively evaluated after a mean of 10.7 years. Metabolic syndrome was defined as per International Diabetes Federation criteria and diabetes as per American Diabetes Association standards. The incidence was calculated in 1000 person years, and multivariate logistic regression was used to estimate the strength of association between incident metabolic syndrome and risk factors. Results: In the followed-up individuals (n = 303), incidence of metabolic syndrome was 32.1 per 1000 person years (95% CI 26.3–38.7 per 1000 person years). Amongst those developing metabolic syndrome, ≥4 components were present in 52% individuals, with low HDL-C being the most common abnormality. Those with metabolic syndrome had a five-time higher risk of diabetes (OR: 4.94; 95% CI: 2.27–9.96; p < 0.001) and a threefold higher risk of hypertension (OR: 2.67; 95% CI: 1.30–5.48; p = 0.006). Purpose: To investigate the association between muscular strength and metabolic syndrome (MetS), with a specific focus on the role of weight status, using a nationally representative sample of US youth. Methods: The analysis included 409 boys and 415 girls from the 2011 to 2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey between 12 and 18 years of age. The prevalence of MetS was defined using age- and sex-specific criteria for abdominal obesity, elevated triglycerides, blood pressure, fasting glucose, and low high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. Strength was assessed via handgrip dynamometer and expressed as age- and sex-specific z scores of relative strength. Low strength was defined as a relative strength below the 25th percentile. Analyses controlled for age, sex, race/ethnicity, physical activity, and weight status. Results: The sample prevalence of MetS was approximately 5.3%. However, MetS prevalence was 18.5% in overweight/obese youth with low strength. The adjusted odds of MetS were 3.1 (95% confidence interval, 1.5–6.3, P <.001) times higher for overweight/obese youth with low strength versus sufficient strength. Conclusion: Muscular strength is predictive of adolescent MetS, specifically in those with unhealthy weight status. Approximately one in 5 overweight/obese youth with low strength had MetS. Background: The health benefits of dietary polyphenol intake (DPI) including improved lipid profiles, blood pressure, insulin resistance, and reduced systemic inflammation has revealed previously. However, the results of numerous studies are not consistent and it seems that these health effects are attributed to some of DPI. In the current research, we evaluated the health benefits of DPI on metabolic markers and glycemic markers among overweight and obese individuals. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 487 individuals with overweight and obesity were participated. Dietary intake was assessed by a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) and the amount of dietary polyphenol intake were calculated based on the information derived from Phenol-Explorer database (www.phenolexplorer.eu/contents). Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) was used to measure body composition. Systolic and diastolic blood pressures were measured by sphygmomanometer. Biochemical assays including fasting blood sugar, insulin and serum lipids' concentrations were measured by enzymatic methods. Results: According to our results, males were more likely to be at the highest tertile of DPI (P = 0.04). Also, those at the highest tertile of DPI had higher fat free mass and physical activity level (P < 0.05). Lower TG level in highest tertile of DPI in crude model was also observed, but, it lost its significant threshold after adjustment for confounders. Subjects at the second tertile of DPI were more likely to have lower systolic blood pressure in the sex and age adjusted model [OR = 0.970; CI = 0.940-1.000; P = 0.049]. For other biochemical variables, no significant association was observed. Conclusion: In the current study, total dietary polyphenol intake was associated with lower SBP among overweight and obese individuals. Background: This study aimed to evaluate the severity of alopecia areata (AA) associations with metabolic syndrome, body composition evaluated by bioimpedance techniques, and arterial stiffness based on pulse-wave velocity analysis. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on patients referred to AA Clinic at Razi Hospital in 2021 and 2022. Patients with AA with the Severity of Alopecia Tool (SALT) score above 20% and receiving no systemic therapy were included. Patient demographic and clinical information, symptoms of metabolic syndrome, and bioimpedance factors were collected, and the relationship between disease severity, metabolic syndrome, and bioimpedance indicators was evaluated. Results: In this study, 59 patients were examined, with 26 (44.07%) being female and 33 (55.93%) being male. The mean age of the patients was 37.42 years (standard deviation [SD] =11.28). The severity of the disease was assessed using the SALT score, with the mean severity in terms of the percentage being 69.83% (SD = 28.57%). In the regression model, SALT score was independently related to the severity of vascular stiffness after adjusting for the effect of other variables (beta = 0.033, 95% CI = 0.009-0.057, P = 0.046). Moreover, SALT score was significantly related to metabolic syndrome after adjusting for the effect of other variables (OR = 1.035, 95% CI = 1.012-1.059, P = 0.002). Conclusion: This study found that AA severity is associated with a higher chance of having metabolic syndrome and arterial stiffness which may lead to cardiovascular diseases in patients with AA, and screening patients regarding cardiometabolic diseases is mandated. Aims. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) affects approximately one-third of the global population. Visit-to-visit variability of blood pressure (VVV-BP) constitutes a substantial risk factor for numerous chronic conditions. Thus, this study aimed to assess the relationship between VVV-BP and MetS and identify potential moderating factors between these. Methods. Data were obtained from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, a nationally representative study. Multiple logistic regression analyses were utilized to explore the association between VVV-BP and MetS while incorporating moderation analyses. MetS was defined according to the criteria outlined in the Joint Interim Statement. VVV-BP was expressed by the standard deviation, coefficient of variation, average real variability, and root mean square error. Results. Individuals with the highest levels of VVV of systolic blood pressure (SBP) exhibited a 70% increased risk of MetS compared to those with the lowest levels (OR = 1.70, 95% CI = 1.31–2.21). In addition, they had a 41% increased risk of VVV of diastolic blood pressure (DBP) (OR = 1.41, 95% CI = 1.09–1.81). Notably, weight change status significantly influenced the relationship between VVV-BP and MetS (Pinteraction = 0.01). Conclusions. VVV-BP is a significant contributor to the risk of developing MetS. The objective of this study was to investigate the association between periodontitis severity and metabolic syndrome (MetS) through systematic review, registered in PROSPERO: CRD42021232120. Selected articles were independently chosen by three reviewers from six databases, including using article reference lists, up until March 2022. Eligible studies were observational, without language limitation, and in subjects aged at least 18 years. The methodological quality of selected studies was assessed using the Newcastle‐Ottawa Scale. Random effects models calculated summary measurements (odds ratio‐OR, 95% confidence interval, 95%CI). The I2 test evaluated the statistical heterogeneity of the data. Sensitivity, subgroup, and meta‐regression analyses were performed. For the reliability of evidence, the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations tool was used. A total of 2133 records were identified, and 14 studies were included comprising 24,567 participants. The summary odds ratio showed a positive association between individuals with moderate (ORadjusted = 1.26; 95%CI = 2.10–5.37; I2 = 45.85%), and severe periodontitis (ORadjusted = 1.50; 95%CI:1.28–1.71; I2 = 56.46%), and MetS. Subgroup and meta‐regression analyses showed that study effect size was influenced by year of publication, study design, and MetS diagnostic criteria, contributing to inter‐study variability. The findings showed that moderate and severe levels of periodontitis are associated with MetS, suggesting a possible dose–response effect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
