National audience; Depuis plusieurs dizaines d'années, de nombreuses plantations comparatives d'espèces forestières ont été installées à travers la France par différents organismes. Les améliorateurs et généticiens du département Ecologie des Forêts, Prairies et milieux Aquatiques de l'INRA ont activement participé à la mise en place de ce réseau, baptisé depuis peu Plantacomp. Les objectifs initiaux de ces tests étaient l'étude de la diversité naturelle de différentes essences forestières et la création de matériels de reboisement améliorés. Ces dispositifs abritent à la fois des tests de comparaison de provenances, de descendances et de clones. Ce réseau est un remarquable réservoir de diversité génétique et présente donc un fort enjeu en matière de conservation de la biodiversité. D'autre part, l'implantation de mêmes unités génétiques dans des environnements variés, et le suivi sur de longues périodes de ces dispositifs, permettent d'avoir accès à de précieuses informations sur la plasticité et l'adaptation de ce matériel forestier face à un environnement variable, qui mime en quelques sortes l'impact du changement climatique annoncé. Enfin, ces plantations comparatives, installées de façon rigoureuse dans des milieux contrastés et suivies régulièrement depuis plusieurs années peuvent également faire l'objet de travaux concernant d'autres thématiques: suivi d'invasion d'insectes, efficience de l'utilisation de l'eau, détection de QTL... Pour exploiter au mieux le potentiel de ces expérimentations, et ainsi faire face aux nouveaux enjeux de la filière forestière, l'INRA a montré une volonté de structuration de ce réseau. Ainsi organisé, Plantacomp pourrait être valorisé à travers des projets, nationaux ou internationaux, permettant de répondre au mieux aux problématiques émergentes de la recherche forestière (changement climatique mais aussi production de biomasse, biomolécule... ) tout en restant au plus près des préoccupations de la profession. L'objectif à termes est également de collaborer étroitement avec d'autres organismes de recherche et de développement tels que l'ONF, le FCBA, l'lOF, afin de mettre en commun l'ensemble des plantations comparatives installées sur le territoire français, voire international.

Since several dozens of years, numerous genetic experiments of forcstry species were installed through France. Genetic breeders of French national Institut for Agricultural Research actively participated in the implementation of this network, recently baptized PlantaComp. The initial objectives of these tests werc to analyze the expression of genetic variability and to study genetic parameters in order to create improved materials of reforestation. This network aggegates tests comparing species, provenances, progenies and clones. PlantaComp is a remarkable storage of genetic diversity and thus pr€sents a srong stake in pr€servation of the biodiversity. Furthermore, the setting-up of the same genetic units in varied environments, and the follow-up over long periods of these trials, allow to have access to precious information on the plasticity and the adaptation of this material in front of a variable environment, which mimes the impact of the announced climate change. Finally, these genetic experiments, installed in a rigorous way in contrasted environments and followed regularly for several years can also serve as a support for studies concerning other themes: following-up of invasions of insects, efficiency of the use of the water, the detection of QTL... To make the most of the potential of this network, and so face the new stakes in the forestry sector, French National Institut for Agricultural Research showed one's willingness to organize this network. So, PlantaComp could be valued through national or international projects, included severat partners, linked with emergent issues of forestry research (climate change but also production of biomass, biomolecule) while staying most closely with pteoccupations of the profession (selection of improved material).
