The Federal Constitution and the Organic Law of Social Assistance (LOAS) provide that the population will participate in the formulation of social assistance policies and in the control of actions. Thus, this paper analyzes how the social control exercised in the Councils of Social Assistance Public Policies can impact the implementation of these policies. Bibliographic and documentary research was carried out on articles, websites, books, theses and dissertations, legislation, and resolutions. Thus, it was verified that, althougt social control functions as a structuring axis for decisionmaking processes in the Councils of Social Assistance Public Policies, it does not perform its attributions to strengthen and improve the Councils and, consequently, in the implementation of public policies.
