A novel coordination polymer [(DDTD)(Cu3I5)]n(DDTD = 5, 8-diazoniadispiro[4.2.4.2]tetradecane dication) was obtained and characterized by X-ray crystallography, elemental analyses, and IR spectroscopy. In the polymer, a unique 1D helical chain of (Cu3I5)n cluster was constructed, and the C-H· · ·I intermolecular interactions extended the 1D entities into high-dimensional frameworks to stabilize the supramolecular architecture. By reaction of two ligands, Na(o-OOCC6H4COFc) (Fc = (η5-C5H5)Fe(η5-C5H4)) and 1,1'-(1,5-pentamethylene)bis-1H-benzimidazole (pbbm), with Zn(OAc)2 · 2H2O in methanol solution, we have synthesized a zinc(II) coordination polymer [Zn(o-OOCC6H4COFc)2(pbbm)]n. The polymer was characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction, IR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. Each Zn atom was connected by two pbbm ligands, leading to an infinite one-dimensional chain. Two monodentate o-FcCOC6H4COO- anions completed the coordination sphere of the central Zn(II) ion. A four-coordinate zinc(II) coordination polymer, [ZnCl2(H2bpb)]n· CH3OH (H2bpb = 1,2-bis(3-pyridylcarboxylamide)benzene), has been prepared and the crystal structure determined by X-ray diffraction. It crystallizes in the triclinic system, space group [image omitted] with a = 7.898(3) Å, b = 11.792(4) Å, c = 11.911(4) Å, α = 76.051(4)°, β = 89.919(4)°, γ = 78.267(4)°, V = 1052.9(7) Å, Z = 2. A novel 3D coordination polymer [Mn(tzda)(4,4'-bipy)(H2O)]n (1) of mixed ligands, (1,3,4-thiadiazole-2,5-diyldithio)diacetic acid (H2tzda) and 4,4'-bipyridine, has been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and IR spectra. Complex 1 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pbca with a=18.1657(9)Å, b=9.0882(5)Å, c=22.9333(12)Å. In the structure, each Mn(II) ion is in a distorted octahedral coordination geometry, three among four coordination sites of the equatorial plane are occupied by the carboxylate oxygen atoms and the remaining site is occupied by the water molecule while the apical positions are occupied by two nitrogen atoms from two bipy molecules. The six-coordinated Mn ions are interlinked by flexible tzda ligands to form layers, which are sustained by rigid 4,4'-bipy ligands into a 3D open framework. The magnetic property of 1 was also investigated and the magnetic susceptibility data were rationally fitted with J=-0.103 cm-1, g=2.09, zJ'=-0.02 cm-1, showing weakly antiferromagnetic interactions among Mn(II) ions in 1. A novel 3D coordination polymer [Gd2(tzda)3(H2O)5]n (1) has been synthesized by hydrothermal reaction of Gd(NO3)3 with a flexible building unit - (1,3,4-thiadiazole-2,5-diyldithio)diacetic acid (H2tzda). X-ray single crystal diffraction analysis reveals that 1 belongs to triclinic system, P1¯ space group. The crystallographic data are: a=9.6769(7)Å, b=13.4539(9) Å, c=14.9369 (10)Å, α=65.9050(10)°, β=82.1290(10)°, γ=80.1210(10)°. In the structure, two Gd(III) ions are both nine-coordinated and in different coordination environments while the tzda2- anions display three different coordination modes to link Gd(III) ions and then form a complicate three-dimensional network structure. Abstract: Six new 1–3D coordination polymers of an unsymmetrical angular ligand 3-pyridin-4-ylbenzoate (L), namely, [Ni(L)2(C2H6O2)] n (1), [Cd(L)2(H2O)2] n ·4H2O (2), [Zn2(OH)(L)3] n (3), [Fe2(OH)(L)3] n (4), [Ni(L)2(H2O)] n (5) and [Cd(L)2(H2O)] n (6) were hydro(solvo)thermally synthesized. They have abounding structure chemistry ranging from one-dimensional ribbons (1 and 2), and two-dimensional novel helical double-layered frameworks (3 and 4) to three-dimensional CdSO4-topological porous interpenetrating architectures with hydrophilic and hydrophobic channels regularly arraying (5 and 6). The labile conformations and coordination modes of ligand L, which were finely tuned by reaction conditions, perhaps play the key role in the construction of various architectures. Very interestingly, the slight difference in solvent system or temperature resulted in the distinct architectures of nickel(II) complexes 1 and 5 or cadmium(II) complexes 2 and 6. As expected, the unsymmetrical ligand L has a trend to construct metal-organic helixes as observed in 3 and 4. Thermogravimetric analysis of 5 shows the main framework retains stability until a higher temperature 379°C. The 3D microporous network of 5 can slightly absorb for N2 and Ar. Compounds 2, 3 and 6 emit ligand-centered photoluminescence but with obviously different intensities owing to the structural diversities and coordinating water molecules. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: A series of four metal–organic frameworks, namely, [Cu(sdpa)0.5(2,2′-bpy)]·H2O (1), [Zn2(sdpa)(2,2′-bpy)2(H2O)2]·3H2O (2), [Zn2(sdpa)(4,4′-bpy)]·3H2O (3), [Cd2(sdpa)(4,4′-bpy)1.5(H2O)2](4), have been hydro(solvo)thermally synthesized through the reaction of 2,3,2′,3′-sulfonyldiphthalic acid (H4sdpa) with divalent copper, zinc and cadmium salts in the presence of ancillary nitrogen ligands (4,4′-bpy=4,4′-bipyridine, 2,2′-bpy=2,2′-bipyridine) and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, IR and X-ray diffraction. Both complex 1 and 2 show metal–organic chain structure, and the adjacent chains are further linked by π⋯π and C–H⋯π interactions for 1 and hydrogen bonds and π⋯π interactions for 2 to form 3D supramolecular structure. In complex 3, two Zn1 and two Zn2 atoms appear alternately and are bridged by sdpa4− anion ligands to form an infinite Zn-sdpa chain. Such chains are further linked together through 4,4′-bpy ligands in four orientations to form a robust 3D metal–organic network. In compound 4, a 3D Cd-sdpa metal–organic network is accomplished through sdpa4− anion ligands, and further stabilized by 4,4′-bpy in six orientations. Abstract: Four novel lanthanide(III) coordination polymers [Ln(L)1.5(H2O)2]·5H2O [Ln=Sm (1), Eu (2), Tb (3), Dy (4)] have been hydrothermally synthesized by the reaction of 1,2-bis[4-amino-5-carboxylmethylthio-(1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)]ethane (H2L) with lanthanide(III) salts, and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Polymers 1–4 are isostructural, in which all the LnIII atoms are nine-coordinated and the carboxylate groups adopt three different coordination modes (bidentate chelate, bidentate bridging, bidentate chelate bridging) to connect LnIII atoms. These polymers exhibit 3D network structures with 2-fold interpenetration, in which intriguing 1D channels are observed. Besides, the spectra properties of the title polymers are investigated, the strong luminescence characteristics of 2–3 are found. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Three new coordination polymers based on IB metal thiocyanates, [CuII(NCS)2(DMSO)4(meso-dpb)] n (1), (2), [CuI(NCS)(pia)] n (3) (dpb=2,3-di(4-pyridyl)-2,3-butanediol, bpp=1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane, pia= N,N′-(1,2-phenylene)diisonicotinamide), have been synthesized by the pre-assembly method and characterized by X-ray crystallography. In 1, CuII cations are bridged by meso-dpb ligands to form a one-dimensional (1D) linear chain. Compound 2 consists of 2D undulated layers of (4, 4) topology that show twofold parallel interpenetration. In the case of 3, the MI center adopts tetrahedral coordination geometry and the 2D networks are formed by organic ligand with “folding ruler-shaped” NCS−–M chains. Abstract: Self-assembly of 1,2-bis(3-pyridylcarboxylamide)benzene (H2bpb) with sulfate salts gave rise to three new coordination polymers, [Ni2(H2bpb)2(H2O)2(CH3OH)2(SO4)2] n · nCH3OH 1, [Co2(H2bpb)2(CH3OH)2(DMF)2(SO4)2] n ·0.5nH2O 2 (DMF= N,N′-dimethylformamide) and [Zn2(H2bpb)2(CH3OH)2(DMF)2(SO4)2] n ·0.5nH2O 3. They all crystallize in a monoclinic space group C2/c, with two crystallographically distinct metal nodes being surrounded by slightly distorted octahedra. There is a homologous chair-like unit with bridging ligand H2bpb as the back and bis(monodentate) sulfate anion as the seat in their crystal structures. Through the recognition of strong π⋯π stacking interactions between benzene rings, those chains formed by the unlimited extension of the chair-like units stack up to produce 1-D channels along c axis where lattice molecules and terminal ligands are accommodated. Interestingly, the trans,trans,syn achiral conformation with C s symmetry of H2bpb which is further enforced by sulfate-bridged coordination and intramolecular hydrogen bonding in the chair-like units, controls over the assembling architectures. Further investigation on the thermal and fluorescent properties of complexes 1–3 shows that the homologous chair-like units in all complexes are stable enough until to 320°C and that the fluorescence nature of H2bpb is not sensitive to its conformations. Abstract: Hydrothermal reactions of 1-aminoethylidenediphonic acid { CH3C(NH2)(PO3H2)2, H4aedp} with CaCl2, Sr(NO3)2 and Pb(AC)2·3H2O resulted in three new main group metal diphosphonate coordination polymers. Namely, Ca[CH3C(NH3)(PO3H)2]2[CH3C(NH3)(PO3H)(PO3H2)]2 (1), Sr[CH3C(NH2) (PO3H)2(H2O)]·H2O(2) and Pb[CH3C(NH3)(PO3H)(PO3)]·H2O(3). The calcium (II) ion in complex 1 is octahedrally coordinated by six phosphonate oxygen atoms from six diphosphonate ligands, four of them in a bidentate and two in a monodentate fashion. The neighboring calcium ions are linked by pairs of P–O–P bridges, resulting in a pseudo-one-dimensional chain along the c axis. Complex 2 is the first example of the strontium phosphonate which has not been synthesized and structurally characterized before. It features a layered structure, in which strontium(II) ions are eight coordinated by an aqua ligand and seven phosphonate oxygen atoms from four diphosphonate ligands, two SrO8 polyhedra are bridged into a demeric unit by a pair of oxygen atoms and two diphosphonate groups. And such dimers are interconnected by the P–O–P bridges and O bridges to form complicated layers parallel to the ab plane. Complex 3 also has a layered structure in which the lead (II) ions are six coordinated by six phosphonate oxygens from four equivalent diphosphonate ligands. Each pair of PbO6 octahedra forms a dimeric unit via O–O edge-sharing and such dimeric units are interconnected via O–O edge-sharing to form a one-dimensional chain along the b-axis. These 1D chains are further bridged by the phosphonate ligands to form a complicated layer parallel to the bc plane. This type of layered structure has not been reported in other lead phosphonates.
