The article presents information on a case study to determine the efficacy of cilomilast, a selective phosphodiesterase 4 inhibitor, in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled multicenter study. The study included people who had received a diagnosis of COPD. They were between 40 and 80 years of age. After thorough investigation, it was concluded that cilomilast is an orally active and selective inhibitor which maintains pulmonary function and improves health status.
