Nylon-6-b-polydimethylsiloxane copolymer was synthesized with macroinitiator through in situ polymerization. The macroinitiator with two chain-growing centers per molecule is based on hydroxyl terminated polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) functionalized with diisocyanate. The influence of PDMS contents on the properties of copolymers was studied. Differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffraction were used to investigate the melting temperature, crystallization temperature and crystal form of samples, and the results showed that the crystallinity of polymers decreased. The mechanical properties of samples were studied by notched-impact testing and tension test. The notched impact strength was improved by 200% with PDMS concentration up to 4 wt%. The form of scaly was seen by scanning electron microscope proved the improvements of the impact strength of the copolymer. The water contact angles test showed that the surface tension of copolymers decreased with the PDMS content increasing and the surface of copolymer changed from hydrophilic to hydrophobic. In this article, a novel method has been successfully developed to prepare the anionic polyamide 6/polystyrene (APA6/PS) blends. The macroactivator P(St‐co‐IEM) was synthesized by the free radical polymerization of 2‐isocyanatoethyl methacrylate and styrene (St), then the graft copolymer of PS and APA6 (PS‐g‐APA6) can be obtained by the anionic polymerization of ɛ‐caprolactam activated by the macroactivator P(St‐co‐IEM). The X‐ray diffraction analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microscopy analysis, contact angle measurement, water absorption measurement, molau test, thermogravimetric analysis, and mechanical properties test were performed separately to study the effects of P(St‐co‐IEM) on crystallinity, morphology, water resistance, thermal stability, and mechanical properties. The results indicate the synthesis of macroactivator can promote the formation of the γ‐phase. ABSTRACT: Nanocellulose whiskers grafted with a polyolefin elastomer (POE–NCW) were prepared through the reaction of nanocellulose whiskers and a polyolefin elastomer (POE). This was followed by the blending of POE–NCW with polypropylene (PP), and thus, ternary nanocomposites were obtained. When the dosage of POE–NCW was 2%, the tensile strength, storage modulus, and Vicat softening temperature of the ternary nanocomposites increased by 60%, 35%, and 13 °C, respectively. A core–shell‐like cladding structure was formed by the coating of POE on the nanorigid particles; the toughness and rigidity of the composites were both significantly improved, and this prevented brittle fracture under impact and enlarges the range of applications for PP composites. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ABSTRACT Poly( p-styrene sulfonate- co-acrylic acid sodium) (PSA) from the copolymerization of acrylic acid sodium and p-styrene sulfonate monomers were used to dope poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene) (PEDOT) to generate PEDOT-PSA antistatic dispersions. Compared to those of the PEDOT-poly( p-styrene sulfonate sodium) (PSS), the physical and electrical properties of the PEDOT-PSA conductive liquids were much better. The PEDOT-PSA films possessed a better water resistance without a decrease in the conductivity. The sheet resistance of the PEDOT-PSA-poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) films was about 1.5 × 104 Ω/sq with a 100 nm thickness, the same as the PEDOT-PSS-PET films. The transmittance of the PEDOT-PSA-PET films exceeded 88%. Furthermore, the environmental dispersity of the PEDOT-PSA antistatic dispersion was apparently improved by the dopant PSA so that the stability was extraordinarily promoted. ABSTRACT A novel poly(acrylonitrile- co-butadiene- co-styrene) (ABS) antistatic and flame-retardant agent, poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate/methyl methacrylate/diethyl allylphosphonate (PMMD), was synthesized from poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate, methyl methacrylate, and diethyl allylphosphonate by free-radical precipitation polymerization in the aqueous phase to improve the antistatic and flame-retardant performance at the same time. Through adjustments of the molar ratios of the three monomers, various antistatic, flame-retardant copolymers (PMMD) were synthesized. The molecular structure and thermal stability of PMMD were analyzed with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. The electrical resistivity and flame-retardant and mechanical properties of the ABS/PMMD composites were analyzed by a ZC90 megohmmeter, an oxygen index meter, a vertical burning tester, a memory impact testing machine, and a tensile testing machine. The morphology of PMMD in the ABS blends was characterized with scanning electron microscopy. The compatibilities of PMMD and ABS were characterized by the calculation of the thermodynamic work of adhesion via the measurement of the contact angle. The results show that the antistatic and flame-retardant performance of ABS were greatly improved by the PMMD copolymer and the mechanical properties of ABS showed little reduction. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
