New corrosion inhibitors, namely 3-vanilidene amino 1,2,4-triazole phosphonate (VATP) and 3-anisalidene amino 1,2,4-triazole phosphonate (AATP) were synthesised and their action along with biocide on corrosion control of copper in neutral aqueous environment has been studied. Potentiodynamic polarisation measurement and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) has been employed to analyse of their inhibition behaviour. VATP showed better protection over the other inhibitors used. The dissolution of copper in presence of VATP and AATP with biocide mixture is negligible compared to blank. A combination of electrochemical methods and surface examination techniques are used to investigate the protective film and explain the mechanistic aspects of corrosion inhibition. Selected triazole derivatives have been synthesised and evaluated as corrosion inhibitors for mild steel in natural aqueous environment by weight loss, potentiodynamic polarisation and ac impedance methods. All the condensed products showed good inhibition efficiency (IE). The effect of changing functional groups of some triazole derivatives on their inhibition efficiency was also reported using weight loss and potentiodynamic technique. 3-Salicylalidene amino-1,2,4-triazole phosphonate (SATP) was found to be the best corrosion inhibitor compare to the other compounds. A triazole phosphonate compounds, namely, 3-benzyledene amino 1,2,4-triazole phosphonate (BATP), 3-cinnamyledene amino 1,2,4-triazole phosphonate (CATP) and 3-anisalidene amino1, 2,4-triazole phosphonate (AATP), were synthesized and its inhibition efficiency along with biocide action on corrosion of mild steel in natural aqueous solution was investigated through weight loss and electrochemical polarization techniques. The present study aims to evaluate the performance of titanium modified austenitic stainless steels in the simulated bleaching stages, viz. washer stage, peroxide and hyprochlorite stages. Abstract: The influence of derivatives of 1,2,4 triazole, 3-amino 1,2,4-traizole (ATA), 3-amino 5-mercapto 1,2,4 triazole (AMT) and 3-amino 5-methylthio 1,2,4 triazole (AMTT) and ionic surfactants cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) and sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) on the corrosion control of copper in acidic solution was investigated by gravimetric and electrochemical methods. The combined effect of triazoles and surfactants was also evaluated. Electrochemical parameters like corrosion potentials corrosion current density, corrosion rates and inhibition efficiencies were determined. The results reveal the fact that of all triazoles AMTT shows best inhibition and anionic surfactant SDS protects the surface better than the cationic surfactant CTAB. The polarisation data reveal that all inhibitors behave as a mixed type inhibitor. Adsorption of these inhibitors on the surface of copper is found to obey the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. A marked inhibition synergism effect is shown by all the combinations of triazole and surfactant. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Gel titania is the titania which was prepared by hydrolysis of a titanium isopropoxide through a sol–gel process. A film of this titania was coated on surgical grade 316L stainless steel using a sol–gel dipping technique. The densified films at 700 °C in vacuum were characterized by X-ray diffraction and EDXA analysis for its crystallinity and purity. The content of the films were determined by FT–IR spectroscopy. The morphology of the coating was analyzed by SEM. The corrosion behavior of 316L SS samples coated with densified titania films were studied in simulated body fluid Ringer''s solution by DC potentiodynamic polarization and AC impedance spectroscopic methods. The corrosion kinetic parameters show a considerable increase in the corrosion resistance for the coated steel samples in comparison to the pristine steel substrates. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The localised corrosion resistance of 316L SS metallic implant due to H2SO4 treatment is being studied through electrochemical studies involving cyclic polarisation experiments and impedance studies. The efficiency of hydroxyapatite (HAP) coatings on H2SO4 treated 316L SS is also been investigated through electrochemical studies and the dissolution characteristics of the coatings. The study reveal that 15% H2SO4 treatment was found to be efficient in the corrosion resistance of 316L SS and dissolution of alloy is considerably reduced in the hydroxyapatite coatings on 15% H2SO4 treated 316L SS. Sol-gel thin film offers a number of advantages that makes it an attractive method for obtaining ceramic coatings on metallic implants. In this study, the feasibility of using a polymeric sol-gel zirconia film on 316L SS substrate was evaluated using potentiodynamic polarization measurements to measure the corrosion resistance in simulated body fluid environment. Fairly uniform, dense and crack-free films were produced by dip-coating the 316L stainless-steel substrate in a precursor solution containing sonocatalysed zirconium propoxide and yttrium acetate, followed by firing at 600 °C in vacuum. Abstract: Development and characterization of titania (TiO2)/Hydroxyapatite (HAP) reinforced coating derived by sol–gel dip coating process was studied. Structural, electrochemical and biological behavior of the reinforced coatings were conducted and elaborated in this paper. The bonding between the HAP matrix and TiO2 reinforcement might have been achieved predominantly through a chemical bond that resulted from the mutual chemical reaction among the components. In vitro electrochemical studies of the reinforced coatings shows good corrosion resistance and minimum leach out of metal ions in the simulated body fluid (Hank''s balanced salt solution) environment. The cell culture cytotoxicity studies were also carried out using L929 cell line. Cell culture studies showed that the reinforced coatings were non-cytotoxic to mouse fibroblast cell line. On the basis of these observations, it''s concluded that the titania reinforced materials are biocompatible and corrosion resistant and hence are a candidate material for biomedical applications.
