The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a novel and exponentially growing disease, and consequently, the accelerated development of knowledge from good data is possible quickly and globally. • A pandemic situation may increase public awareness to take necessary precautions. • The Taiwan government encouraged the use of face masks and sanitizer, as well as social distancing as a part of prevention during the COVID-19 outbreak. • This response may have contributed to a decline in other infectious diseases. Most of the communicable diseases have contact, airborne and/or droplet mode of transsmission. Following the outbreak of COVID-19, the Taiwan government implemented the use of masks and sanitizer, as well as other preventive measures like social distancing for prevention.
