Several studies have focused on factors that influence adoption of innovation. Studies demonstrate that all innovations are not the same with innovations serving as units of analysis in most cases. However, the dearth of empirical literature, the focus of studies on the adoption innovation by SME owners in southwest Nigeria, and the COVID-19 pandemic effect on SMEs provide a direction for this study in southeast Nigeria. Therefore, the study concentrated on the socio-economic determinants of small marketing businesses on intention to adopt PAPSS in Abia State and Anambra State. A structured questionnaire was used to collect the data from 369 small marketing business owners in different ventures in Abia State and Anambra State. Logistic regression was used to analyse the data. The results demonstrate that gender, education, type of business and experience are significant and have odd ratios of occurrence while experience has the most direct and significant likelihood to occur with additional experience. Therefore, the understanding of the socio-economic factors provides a direction intention to adopt PAPSS and subsequent adoption. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The COVID-19 pandemic has transformed the way people interact with technology and conduct transactions. As cashless transactions become increasingly important, digital payment applications have experienced a significant surge in usage worldwide. The objective of this study is to identify the factors that influence user acceptance of fintech applications in Indonesia using UTAUT and TTF. The findings indicate that usability, ease of use, perceived self-control, and perceived trust have a positive and significant impact on users' intention to use fintech applications. However, perceived security does not appear to have a significant influence on users' intention to use fintech applications. Data were collected from active users of digital payment app. Findings indicate that app experiences generate usability, ease of use, perceived self-control, and perceived trust among active users of the app. This research provides a valuable contribution to understanding the factors that affect the acceptance and use of fintech applications in Indonesia. For fintech businesses, this research may assist fintech application developers in enhancing application features and functionality to better suit user needs and preferences. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

One of the global megatrends is the expansion of digital financial solutions, and seemingly this expansion will continue as there is still room for adopting technology-driven solutions in finance. Regarding global data, the majority of people already have access to financial services: nearly 69 percent of responding adults confirmed that they have accounts at financial institutions. With the far-reaching development of technology, digital payments came into the public as one of the digital financial solutions. In particular, this development sped up during the COVID-19 epidemic, during which people were using remote services in order to keep their physical distance and avoid contamination. Though legal and cybersecurity concerns emerge, the physical infrastructure is developed enough to provide accessible financial services for many more people than today. Countries in various regions adopt modern financial solutions differently, but digital financial solutions are inevitable. In this research paper, the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on the recent trends of digital payment is examined and presented. The paper aims to detect how new payment solutions change the landscape. The methodology of this study is a case study and data analysis. The successful example of China as a digital payment adopting country is analysed as a case study since the country experienced a large expansion in digital finance. Digital financial solutions and digital payment data are collected from the World Bank. The paper contributes to the literature on digital financial development in China during and after COVID-19. Limited access to financial services is considered as a vital bottleneck for curbing poverty in Bangladesh. Digital technology such as mobile banking can contribute to accelerate people's access to finance but did not receive proper attention before COVID-19. This study intends to explore the use of mobile banking services to accelerate people's financial access in Bangladesh due to the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic by using secondary data. Mainly documentation techniques and descriptive statistical methods are used to collect and analyze the data. The study reveals that the number of registered mobile banking customers has escalated during the COVID-19 era. Mainly government policies regarding different mobile banking transactions such as cash in, cash out, person to person (P2P) transaction, salary and utility bill payments etc., have significantly contributed to rise the people's digital financial access during this pandemic. People's changing habit towards digital transactions has also contributed to increasing their financial access. The government should provide a convenient financial access platform to create a cashless society in the country.

The major purpose of this research is to analyze and asses effect of COVID-19 impact on the frequency of using digital payment methods. The research was divided into five sections: volume and frequency of payment methods, payment methods characteristic and their fulfilment, technological trust of payment methods, expected changes in digital payment in the next 5 years, implementation of restrictions related to COVID-19 for the after the epidemic period. The post COVID-19 study was conducted in March 2022 in the form of a survey among university students. Data for pre COVID-19 study come from the author's article "Digital payment methods within Polish students - leading decision characteristics" from 2020 (survey conducted in November 2019). Main conclusions of the study (compared to pre COVID-19): there has been a significant reduction of popularity of cash payments, payments made via e-banking (web access), payments made with physical credit / debit card; has been a noticeable decline in the number of transactions made by respondents; respondents do not support forcing others to use only digital payment methods; despite the massive use of digital payments, respondents expect the spread of technologies ensuring anonymity in digital payments in the future. In the Philippines, economic recovery in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic necessitates a digital shift for businesses. Through this innovation, their operations can continue under the new normal. The adoption of digital payments is one of the common business recovery options supported by the government. In this study, the factors affecting the adoption of digital payments were examined. From July 2020–January 2021, an online survey was conducted on a sample of 433 respondents with at least supervisory level positions. On average, the firms operated their enterprises for 16.22 years and employed 1.8 workers with 57% being sole proprietors, 54% micro enterprises, and 30% having information technology (IT) infrastructure. A decline in their business performance during the pandemic was observed. Two-thirds of the firms across the country employed digital payment technology, and 55% of these firms started using the technology during the pandemic period. Logit analysis was conducted to analyze the determinants of digital payment adoption. Being relatively younger, operating under a partnership business structure relative to sole proprietors, employing more human resources, having IT facilities, and experiencing business growth before the pandemic were found to be predictive of the adoption of digital payments in the business operations of these firms. While younger firms are more receptive to this new payment technology, digital capacity development programs may further revitalize businesses and industries. Such mechanisms need to be put in place targeting vulnerable enterprises: firms under sole proprietorship, without infrastructure for IT, with relatively fewer employees being relatively s [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This paper aims to assess whether the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has encouraged governments to take actions towards fostering digital means of payments and financial transactions to stimulate economic activities and achieve higher financial inclusion. Design/methodology/approach: Using a logit model, this paper tests the impact of the level of income and GDP per capita, government effectiveness, digital adoption, number of commercial banks and the pandemic-related closure of business and stores due to full lockdowns on governments' policy response regarding digital means of payments. Findings: The author finds that low- and lower-middle-income countries had significantly responded to the surged need for digital means of payment during the pandemic compared to the upper-middle-income and high-income countries. The author also finds that government effectiveness and the number of commercial banks were predictors of government policy response, while the full lockdown of countries and the overall digital adoption were not. Research limitations/implications: Data of the post-COVID-19 pandemic are limited, and the sample size is small. Originality/value: This is the first paper to empirically model governments' response during the pandemic to promote digital means of payments. This paper gives insight into post-crisis potential changes in digital payment adoption in the upcoming years. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose – Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic forced nationwide lockdown in India. During the period of lockdown usage of eWallet increased by 44%. With the increased usage of digital transactions, cyber-crime attacks also increased as much as by 86%. The socio-economic environment and the peoples’ mindset in the country yet not ready for this kind of rise in digital transactions. The purpose of this study is to capture “security concern” and “comfortability” in regard to using eWallet during the COVID-19 pandemic situation. The study further investigated the influence of demographics such as gender and income on “security concern” and “comfortability” in using eWallet. Design/methodology/approach – This was an empirical study. The respondents were selected using a purposive sampling method. Only those people who had been using eWallet were included in the survey. The questionnaire was circulated to 100 respondents who agreed to participate in the survey. After scrutiny total of 43 questionnaires were found to be completely filled in all aspects, and thus used for analysis. This study used an innovative multi-method approach for analysis. The hypotheses were tested using two methods: the conventional p-value method and the robust BCa bootstrap method. The effect size was also reported. Findings – The findings suggest that female users are more concerned about eWallet security than male users. This study showed that people from the middle-income group are more concerned about the security of digital payments than the people from the lower-income group. Research limitations/implications – This study covered the influence of two demographic variables “gender” and “income” on security and comfort in using eWallets. Other demographic variables such as age, education, occupation and area of residence (rural or urban) need to be investigated with the inclusion of rural populations. From the findings of this study, this paper argues that the middle-income group in India is more risk intolerant than the lower-income group while higher and lower-income groups are indifferent. A separate detailed study is recommended for additional support. This study used an innovative multi-method approach of analysis and use of bootstrapping. This may encourage other researchers to adopt such approaches. Practical implications – This study showed that irrespective of the forceful adoption; security concerns are prevailing and on the rise. This is an alarm to developers and service providers that, although the use of eWallets increased exponentially during this COVID-19 pandemic, it is a forceful adoption and not willful. They should not get deceived by rise in eWallet users and must endeavor to improve the security of eWallets otherwise, there may be a sharp decline in eWallet users once the COVID-19 pandemic is over. Originality/value – This study attempted to capture the comfortability and security concerns of eWallet users during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study used an innovative multi-method approach of analysis and used bootstrapping in addition to the conventional p-value method to test the significance. This study showed that irrespective of the forceful adoption of eWallets owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, security concerns are prevailing and on the rise. The study confirms that gender has an influence on eWallet security. The findings of this study are in partial conformity with the findings of previous researchers.

The emergence of social distancing and stay at home regulations during the COVID-19 pandemic directly affects people's lifestyle, including baby boomers and X generation. Many of them have started using digital payments for online or offline transactions to minimize contact with others. This study aims to analyze the continuance intention of the baby boomers and X generation toward the use of digital payments using UTAUT2 (Unified Theory of Acceptance Technology). Data were collected from 320 users with an age range of 40–74 who had just started using digital payments during this pandemic. Structural equation modeling has been used to analyze the data. The result indicates that UTAUT indicators positively affect user satisfaction. User satisfaction positively affects inertia. Overall satisfaction and inertia positively affect continuance intention. Therefore, digital payment companies and banks with digital services can expand their target market beyond Millennials and pay more attention to the older generation like baby boomers and X generation. Managers can find the results of this study useful and beneficial to develop their marketing strategy and take advantage of this situation to increase digital payment users to a broader age range. Technological developments have accelerated disruption in various fields. Even the financial system has now been disrupted. The emergence of Financial Technology (Fintech) has spawned new companies with more competitive business models. In this pandemic era, the number of digital payment users continues to increase. This research analyses the factors that strengthened and weakened the digital payment services from the user perspective. Researchers used qualitative research methods. Data were collected by conducting in-depth online interviews with 193 digital payment users in Indonesia during the pandemic. Factors that became the service strengths are, provide convenience (practical), give a sense of security, offer promos that benefit users, and conform with prevailing trends. Some factors become weaknesses of digital payment services. The first factor is related to network and software constraints--the second factor is service security. The third factor is related to inadequate supporting facilities and infrastructure. The existence of administrative fees and minimum balances become the fourth factor. The fifth factor is associated with the elderly who find that the platform is complicated to use--the sixth factor-related consumptive behavior. And the last element is the presence of marketing promises, which do not fit with reality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The pandemic of COVID-19 has arrested the life of 7.8 million people living on this earth. However, some people are more vulnerable to the risk of this deadly virus. The frailty of senior citizens put them at the top of this list. The past 6 months have not only presented a threat to their physical health but to mental health also. Although lockdown was necessary to check the spread of the coronavirus it culminated in an exponential rise in the problems of loneliness, anxiety, fear, helplessness, and depression. The present paper reviews the role of social networking sites, apps, and other digital platforms in saving and enriching the lives of the elderly, especially those who spent the lockdown alone and were devoid of a regular support system due to unavailability of transport and administrative restrictions on the movement of people. It also analyzes the efficiency of the virtual world in reducing their anxiety of being alone by connecting them with others and also make them feel empowered. The review is based on the online data collected about the insurgence in the percentage of elderly people using such platforms, recent studies analyzing the effects of the COVID 19 pandemic on senior citizens. Besides this personal telephonic discussions were conducted with some elderly people who spent their lockdown alone in their homes. The study was primarily focused on three objectives. Firstly it attempts to understand the ways in which senior citizens made use of social networking sites and various digital platforms for managing life better. Secondly, it analyses the process of adopting technology, and finally, it examined the width and depth of the impact technology created in their life and also the permanence of this change. The analysis clearly suggests an increase in the digital life of elderly people. The process moved in distinct stages from utter confusion to relative ease in using technology, thereby significantly reducing the loneliness, and bringing relatively stable change in the way they lead their life. Covid-19 global pandemic has extensively affected various dimensions in life and changed socioeconomic behavior in society. In line with this, the tremendous growthof digital technology has brought about a positive influence on social education and muamalah (literally "transaction") activities due to, indirectly, the enactment of large-scale social restriction policy (LSSR) in the capital city of Indonesia: Jakarta. Consequently, digital transaction has increased immensely as digital technology ensures more safety and effectiveness. Furthermore, the policy has created new perspectives in social education towards the use of digital technology and societies are prompted to learn how to use it. Learning from the background, the authors employ the risk-need-responsive model (RNR model) and conditional approach in this study as a conceptual framework to reveal the impact of Muamalah social education on digital payments for corruption prevention for public services in Indonesia. In addition, quantitative research design is also applied in this study by distributing questionnaires to as many as 300 respondents in Jakarta randomly chosen as a sample. This study revealed that they were influenced by LSSR. Data collection techniques are questionnaires combined with literature studies. This research has a novelty as it attempts to fill the impact of Muamalah social education on digital payments for corruption prevention and is derived from people's responsiveness affected by Covid-19. The results revealed that although people were forced to use digital payments due to emergency conditions, in fact, social education has brought about major changes in social dynamics. The impact of Muamalah social education on digital payments has improved individual cognitive learning abilities, demonstrated more wise actions and changed social behavior for better life. Furthermore, the impact of Muamalah social education on the use of digital payments in preventing corruption or digital anti-corruption likely minimizes corrupt practices in the public service sector. This research is likely a useful reference for stakeholders, especially the government, as a blueprint for preventing corruption by considering aspects of social education and the growing Muamalah principle of digital payments in society. In this era, the global COVID-19 pandemic has hit the economy hard. In the context of great challenges to sustainable economic development, it is of great practical significance to study how digital payment can promote consumer demand and sustainable economic development. From the perspective of sustainable economic development, this paper selects panel data of various provinces in China from 2011 to 2020 to test the correlation between digital payment and consumer demand by constructing econometric models and selecting relevant indicators, so as to reveal the impact of digital payment on consumer demand and sustainable economic development. Research shows that: (1) in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, digital payments play a special and very important role in promoting household consumption and sustainable economic development; (2) the empirical results show that digital payment has a significant positive impact on consumer demand, which indicates that digital payment has an obvious promotion effect on consumer demand; (3) further research shows that the impact of digital payment on consumer demand has obvious heterogeneity. From the perspective of regional differences, digital payment has a significant positive impact on consumer demand in the eastern and western regions, while the impact is not obvious in the northeast and central regions, even though it also has a positive impact. From the perspective of urban-rural differences, digital payment has a significant impact on consumer demand in both urban and rural areas, and this impact is greater in rural areas than in urban areas. However, from the perspective of development stage, the stage characteristics of digital payment’s impact on consumer demand in each region are not obvious, which may be caused by the short sample range. In addition, this paper also puts forward relevant suggestions for other countries to learn from.
