Two novel transition metal complexes formulated as [Cu(4,5–Himdc)(phen)]n (1) and [Mn(5,6–Hbidc)(H2O)]n (2) (4,5–H3imdc = imidazole–4,5–dicarboxylic acid, 5,6–H3bidc = 1H–benzimidazole–5,6–dicarboxylic acid, phen = 1,10–phenanthroline,) have been synthesized under hydro(solvo)thermal method at a relatively low temperature and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, and X–ray single–crystal diffraction. 1 based on 4,5–H3imdc displays one–dimensional zigzag chain structure. 2 based on 5,6–H3bidc features a two–dimensional framework with 4–connected topology. Thermal stabilities and luminescence properties of the two complexes were investigated.

Two new indium coordination polymers formulated as [In(BPDA)(phen)Cl]n (1) and [In(BDC)(HBDC)·2DMF]n (2) (H2BPDA = 2,2′-biphenyldicarboxylic acid, C14H10O4; phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, C12H8N2; H2BDC = 1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid, C8H6O4; DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide, C3H7NO) have been synthesized under solvothermal conditions and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, infrared (IR), thermal gravimetric analyses (TG) and luminescent studies. Molecular structural analyses reveal that complex 1 exhibits an indium-2,2′-biphenyldicarboxylate helical chained structure decorated with 1,10-phenanthroline, and complex 2 possesses a two-dimensional (2D) layered structure constructed by 1,3-benzenedicarboxylate ligands and InO6 octahedra, which has a (4,4) topological structure. Blue-green emission at 480 nm (λex = 340 nm) for 1, intense blue-green emission at 492 nm, green emission at 535 nm, and yellow-green emission at 576 nm (λex = 340 nm) for 2 are observed in the solid state at room temperature.

Two new open-framework gallium phosphites formulated as (C2N2H10)0.5Ga2(OH)(H2O)(HPO3)3(1) and (C3N2H5)2(C3N2H6)Ga8(H2O)6(HPO3)14(2) were hydrothermally synthesized in the presence of ethylenediamine(en) and imidazole as structure directing agents(SDA), respectively. Structural analyses reveal that the 3D structures of compounds 1 and 2 are both built up from the linkage of GaO6, GaO5(H2O) and HPO3 2− units by sharing vertices. The structure of compound 2 is constructed from well-known 4.6.12-net connecting layers in the AAAA stacking sequence, which are penetrated by the 1D Ga-O-P chains to form a 3D pillared-layered structure.

A new 2D gallium metal–organic framework formulated as Ga(OH)(BPDA) ( 1 ) (H 2 BPDA = 2,4′-biphenyldicarboxylic acid, C 14 O 4 H 10 ) has been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and luminescence studies. The neutral layer structure of the coordination polymer 1 is constructed from GaO 4 (OH) 2 octahedra and organic BPDA 2- linkers, with the parallelogram tunnels joined through one-dimensional OH Ga OH chains. Complex 1 exhibits intense green-blue emission at 482 nm ( λ ex = 329 nm) in the solid state at room temperature.

Two new compounds, [Zn(phen)3]2[γ-As8V14O42(H2O)] · 4H2O (1) and [Cd(phen)3]2[γ-As8V14O42(H2O)] · 2H2O (2) (phen = 1,10′-phenanthroline), have been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, infrared spectrum, and thermogravimetric analysis. Compound 1 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P 1 with a = 11.429(4) A, b = 15.760(5) A, c = 15.952(5) A, α = 108.825(5)°, β = 92.194(5)°, γ = 104.155(5)°, V = 2615.6(15) A3, Z = 1; 2 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P 1 with a = 11.450(4) A, b = 15.629(6) A, c = 16.302(6) A, α = 109.177(5)°, β = 92.628(5)°, γ = 104.251(4)°, V = 2644.8(17) A3, Z = 1. Single-crystal structural analysis shows that both 1 and 2 consist of a new type of [γ-As8V14O42(H2O)]4− cluster anion.

Using H3PO3 as a phosphorus source and oxalic acid as a reducing agent, the first three-dimensional open-framework gallium phosphate–phosphite formula as (C6N2H18)2(C6N2H17)Ga15(OH)8(PO4)2(HPO4)12(HPO3)6·2H2O (1), has been hydrothermally synthesized in the presence of N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylenediamine (TMEDA) as a structure-directing agent. Compound 1 crystallizes in trigonal system with space group P − 3, a = b = 19.046(3) A, c = 8.3306(17) A, γ = 120°, V = 2617.1(7) A3, and Z = 1. Its 3-D network is based on alternated Ga-centered (GaO4 tetrahedra, GaO5 trigonal bipyramids, and GaO6 octahedra) and P-centered (PO43−, HPO42−, and HPO32−) units. Protonated organic amines and water molecules are located in the 12-membered ring channels.

Three new gallium phosphite–oxalates formula as (C6N2H14)2[Ga2(OH)2(C2O4)2(HPO3)2]·2H2O (1), (C6N2H18)0.5[Ga(OH)(C2O4)0.5(HPO3)] (2), and Ga(C2O4)0.5(C3N2H4)(HPO3) (3) have been hydrothermally synthesized by controlling the pH value of the reaction system. Compound 1 possesses a one-dimensional ladder-like chain structure, in which the C2O42− anion is coordinated to one Ga center and acts as mono-bidentate ligand. In 2 and 3, the C2O42− anions serve as bis-bidentates ligands bridging between two Ga atoms to form the two-dimensional layered structures. Furthermore, compound 3 displays a neutral layered network, which is decorated by the directly coordinated organic ligand.

A new porous zinc arsenite Zn3As2O6 1 has been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions, and characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction, IR and TG analysis. The structural analysis reveals that compound 1 is constructed from a network of AsO3 trigonal pyramids and ZnO4 tetrahedra, and represents a 3D framework with one-dimensional 8-membered-ring channels and interesting helical Zn–O chains. Crystal data for 1: Monoclinic, space group P2(1)/c, a = 8.250(4) A, b = 5.186(3) A, c = 15.824(9) A, β = 97.379(9)°, V = 671.4(6) A3, Z = 4, R1 = 0.0481, and wR2 = 0.0834.

A new organic templated lanthanum sulfate [C4N3H16][La(SO4)3(H2O)] (1) has been solvothermally synthesized by using n-butanol as solvent. The colorless block crystals were characterized by IR, TGA, ICP, and XRD. The structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction: Monoclinic, P21/c, a = 10.8878(19), b = 15.478(3), c = 9.9639(18) A, β = 114.062(2)°, V=1533.2(5) A3, Z = 4]. Crystal structure analysis shows that the one dimensional chain of 1 consists of the LaO9 polyhedra and the sulfate groups. Coordination water molecules link adjacent chains by using hydrogen bonds to generate 2D layers, whereas the organic amines are inserted between the layers. The formation of 1 demonstrates that solvents play an important role during the synthesis.

Three new vanadate compounds of the formulas (C 2 N 2 H 10 )VO(OH) 4 (I), (NH 4 ) 3 (C 3 N 2 H 5 )V 4 O 10 (II), and V(OH) 3 · 0.97H 2 O (III) have been synthesized by a solvothermal method and characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis. The crystal structures of the above three vanadates have been established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound I crystallizes as tetragonal, space group P4/mmm, with a = 9.0465-(11) A, c = 3.9897(10) A, V= 326.51(10) A 3 , and Z= 2. Compound II crystallizes as orthorhombic, space group Immm, with a = 3.6012(10) A, b = 11.312(4) A, c = 15.050(4) A, V = 613.1(3) A 3 , and Z = 2. Compound III crystallizes as cubic, space group Fd3m, with a = 10.4252(17) A, V= 1133.1(3) A 3 , and Z= 16. Structural analyses reveal a one-dimensional beeline-chained structure, which consists of VO 6 octahedra in I. Compound II possesses a two-dimensional V-O-layered structure formed by VO 5 square pyramids; protonated imidazole and remaining NH 4 + cations are inserted between the layers. The three-dimensional open framework of III with the pyrochlore type consists of V 12 and V 4 secondary building units by using VO 6 octahedra as building units.

Lead-free piezoelectric single crystal of [Bi0.5(Na1−xKx)0.5]TiO3 (BNTKx) with size of 10×10×5 mm3 has been successfully grown by the self-flux method. The temperature dependence of dielectric constant was measured and the peak temperature of dielectric constant was found to be 45° higher than that of pure (Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3 crystal. X-ray diffraction pattern indicated that the BNTK50 crystal is tetragonal (symmetry group 4 mm) with a = b = 0.3917 nm and c = 0.4011 nm , respectively. Differential scanning calorimetry showed that the crystal was congruent melting during growth. Superior piezoelectric and electromechanical properties were found in these lead-free crystals.
