Two new salts based on [Ni(tdas)2]2−(tdas2−= 1, 2, 5-thiadiazole-3,4-dithiolate), [4FBz-4EtPy]2[Ni(tdas)2](1) and [4BrBz-4EtPy]2[Ni(tdas)2] (2), have been prepared by reaction of Na2tdas, NiCl2.6H2O, and [4RBz-4EtPy]Br([4RBz-4EtPy]+= 4-R-benzyl-4′-ethylpyridinium, R = F(1), Br(2)), and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV-Vis, EI-MS spectra, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Two salts crystallize in different systems with the different stacking modes of the anions and the cations. The [4FBz-4EtPy]+cations in1form a 1D chain through C−H···F hydrogen bonds, while the [Ni(tdas)2]2−anions form a 1D chain in 2 through intermolecular short S···S interactions. Some other intra-molecular contacts such as C−H···S, C−H···N, C–H···Ni, π···π, S···N, and S···Br weak interactions in1and2play an important role in the stacking of the molecules and give further rise to a network 3D structure. Two new salts [4-ClBzPid]2[Ni(mnt)2](1) and [4-ClBzPid][Ni(mnt)2](2)([4-ClBzPid]+= 1-(4′-chlorobenzyl)-piperidinium and mnt2−= maleonitriledithiolate) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV-Vis, ESI-MS, single crystal X-ray diffraction, and magnetic measurements. Furthermore, the [4-ClBzPid]+cations in1stack into 1D columns via C–H···Cl and Cl···Cl interactions, while the cations (C) and [Ni(mnt)2]−anions (A) of2stack into a 1D column with a A-CC-A-CC-A sequence by N···π and N–H···N weak interactions. Some other weak interactions including C–H···N and C–H···Ni hydrogen bonds result in the forming of a 3D network. Two hybrid salts, [2ClBzTPP]2[Ni(i-mnt)2] (1) and [4ClBzTPP]2[Ni(i-mnt)2] (2), were obtained in crystalline form by the reaction of disodium iso-maleonitriledithiolate (K2(i-mnt)) with nickel(II) chloride hexahydrate and 1-(2′-chlorobenzyl)triphenyl-phosphonium or 1-(4′-chlorobenzyl)triphenylphospho-nium bromide ([2ClBzTPP]Br/[4ClBzTPP]Br) in methanol. Two tetrabromocuprate(II) complexes containing substituted benzyl alkyl pyridinium, [Bz-4-MePy]2[CuBr4] (1) and [Bz-4-EtPy]2[CuBr4] (2) ([Bz-4MePy]+= (1-benzyl-4′-methylpyridinium) [Bz-4-EtPy]+= 1-benzyl-4′-ethylpyridinium), were crystallized from methanol and dilute HBr solutions, and were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. A new salt, [BrBzTPP][CuBr3](1) ([BrBzTPP]+ = 1-(4'-bromobenzyl)triphenylphosphinium), was simply synthesized by the direct reaction of CuBr2 and [BrBzTPP]Br in methanol and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, MS spectra and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Abstract A new organic crystal, [BzTPP][PIC](1) ([BzTPP]+ = benzyl triphenylphosphinium, [PIC]- = picrate), has been grown by slow evaporation solution growth technique. Single crystal XRD reveals that it belongs to monoclinic system with P 2 1 / c. The two neighboring [BzTPP]+ cations from a dimer through C-H···π interaction while anions stack into a columnar structure through N⋯O, O⋯O and π···π interaction. The anions and cations form a column structure alternately in ···AC-AC-AC-AC··· sequence through C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The experimental vibrational bands (IR and Raman) have been discussed and assigned based on DFT calculations. The HOMO-LUMO energy gap explains the charge transfer interactions in the molecule. The thermal stability of the hybrid crystal was analyzed by TG-TDA-MS technique and revealed that the title crystal was stable up to 290 °C. Abstract Single crystals of an organic charge-transfer compound, 4-nitrobenzyl isoquinolinium picrate, [4NO 2 BzIQl][PIC](1), were grown by slow evaporation technique at room temperature. Single crystal XRD and powder XRD studies conform the crystal structure and crystalline nature. In the title compound, the [4NO 2 BzIQl]+ cations and the [PIC]- anions stack into a columnar structure through π···π and C H···π interactions. The FT-IR and Raman spectra were recorded and analyzed with the aid of density functional theory calculations in order to make a suitable assignment of the observed bands. The simulated spectrum satisfactorily coincides with the experimental UV–visible spectrum. Thermal stability and the major gaseous products of decomposition at 293 °C were examined by TG-DTA-MS technique. The material shows three main emission peaks about 385, 467 and 538 nm upon excitation at 241 nm in solid state at room temperature. The excited state energy from theoretical UV–vis spectra, the total energy of intramolecular interactions and nonlinear optical properties were studied using DFT calculations. Single crystals of a novel organic-inorganic hybrid compound, [Bz-4-NH 2 Py] 4 [CdCl 4 ] 2 ·H 2 O( 1 ) (Bz-4-NH 2 Py = 1-benzyl-4′-aminopyridinium), have been synthesized by slow evaporation solution growth method at room temperature. The compound crystallizes in a P -1 triclinic unit cell with parameters, a = 10.063(3), b = 10.095(3), c = 27.173(7) Å, α = 78.89(1), β = 83.50(1), γ = 67.72(1)° and V = 2752.0(13) Å 3 . The electrostatic interaction and N H⋯O, N H⋯Cl, O H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds in the crystal may be effective in the stabilization of the crystal structure supported by the DFT calculation. Powder XRD diffraction study confirms the crystal data of synthesized compound. The FT-IR and Raman spectra were recorded and analyzed with the aid of density functional theory calculations in order to make a suitable assignment of the observed bands. Thermal stability and the main gaseous products of decomposition at 401.5 °C were examined by TG-DTA-MS technique. The material exhibits strong fluorescence emission at 394, 329 and 467 nm in the solid state at room temperature. Two new organic-inorganic hybrid materials, [(Ph) 2 CHTPP][Ni(mnt) 2 ]( 1 ) and [(Ph) 2 CHTPP] 2 [Cu(mnt) 2 ]·2CH 3 CN( 2 ) (mnt = maleonitriledithilate, [(Ph) 2 CHTPP] + = diphenylmethane-triphenylphosphinium), were prepared and characterized. Two compounds crystallize in the triclinic lattice with P -1 space group, and the adjoined anions form one-dimension chain structure through weak π⋯π or C⋯N interactions in 1 , and C H⋯S and C H⋯N hydrogen bonds through the solvent lattice acetonitrile molecule in 2 . The power X-ray diffraction patterns are in good agreement with the simulated patterns based on the crystal structures, indicating the purity of the as-grow crystals. FT-IR and UV–vis spectra were recorded and analyzed with the aid of the DFT calculation. The HOMO/SOMO and LUMO energy gaps were calculated by the DFT method explain charge transfer interactions take place within two materials. Thermal analysis shows two materials can be stable up to 171 °C for 1 and 215 °C for 2 . An organic material single crystal of [BzIQl][PIC] ([BzIQl] + = benzylisoquinolinium; [PIC] − = picrate) has been grown by slow evaporation solution growth technique. Single crystal XRD studies reveal the crystal belongs to monoclinic system with C 2/ c . The two neighboring [PIC] − anions form a dimer through π⋯π interaction, while the cations stack to a columnar structure through C-H⋯π and π⋯π interactions. The anions (A) and cations (C) are arranged into a columnar structure in a ⋯AA-CC-AA-CC⋯sequence through C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The cations and anions are linked through electrostatic and other hydrogen bonding interactions form 3D network. The power XRD measurements substantiate the quality of the crystal. The presence of functional groups of the organic material was confirmed by FT-IR and FT-Raman analysis and theoretical studies. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) carried out on the grown crystal indicates that the material is stable up to 224.9 °C. Three molecular solids, [2RBzIQl] 2 [Cu(mnt) 2 ] (mnt 2− = maleonitriledithiolate; [2RBzIQl] + = 1-(2′-R-benzyl) isoquinolinium, R = F( 1 ), Cl( 2 ) and Br( 3 )), have been prepared and systemically investigated. The crystal structural analysis reveals that three molecular metals crystallize in the monoclinic with space group P 2 1 / c , and the [2RBzIQl] + cations stack into an one-dimensional column through C H⋯π, π⋯π and C H⋯X (X = F or Cl) interactions while the [Cu(mnt) 2 ] 2− anions in 1 and 2 form a dimer by the side-to-side S⋯S, N⋯N and S⋯N interactions. The anions (A) and cations (C) are arranged alternatively into one 1D column for 1 and 2 and two 1D columns for 3 with a ⋯A CC A CC A⋯ sequence though C H⋯S, C H⋯π, C H⋯N or/and C H⋯Cu hydrogen bonds, and weak X⋯N (X = F, Cl), Br⋯S, Cu⋯N or/and π⋯π interactions. The magnetic susceptibilities measured in the temperature range 2.0–300 K reveal that 1 shows an antiferromagnetic behavior, while 2 and 3 exhibit a change of magnetic exchange from weak ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic around 48 K upon the temperature is lowered. Abstract: The preparation, crystal structures and magnetic properties of two novel salts, [DiBzPid][Ni(mnt)2](1) and [DiBzPid]2[Cu(mnt)2](2), where [DiBzPid]+ = N,N′-dibenzylpiperidinium and mnt2− =maleonitriledithiolate, are investigated. The Ni(III) ions of 1 form a 1D zigzag alternating chain in a [Ni(mnt)2]− column through intermolecular π⋯π stacking interaction, short C⋯S and C⋯N interactions between the adjacent anions, while the cations(C) and anions(A) of 2 stack into a 1D alternating ⋯CCACCACC⋯ column via C–H⋯N, C–H⋯π hydrogen bonds and π⋯π stacking interactions. Magnetic susceptibility measurements in the temperature range 2–300K show that 1 exhibits a spin-gap transition around 150K with Δ/kb =429.94K, while 2 shows a very weakly ferromagnetic coupling behavior with θ =1.18×10−2 K. Abstract: Two tetrachlorocuprate(II) salts, [4-RBzPy]2CuCl4 ([4-RBzPy]+ =4-R-benzylpyridinium, R=Cl(1), NO2(2)), have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, MS, single-crystal X-ray diffraction and magnetic susceptibility. Compound 1 crystallizes in the orthorhombic system with space group Pca21, while 2 in the monoclinic P21/c. Two salts comprise a tetrahedral [CuCl4]2− anion and two flexuous [4-RBzPy]+ cations. The cations both 1 and 2 form a column through p⋯π and π⋯π interactions, while the [CuCl4]2− anions only in 2 form a dimer through Cl⋯Cl interaction. The C–H⋯Cl and C–H⋯Cu weak hydrogen bonds between the anions and the cations give further rise to a 3D network structure. Magnetic susceptibility measurements in the temperature range 2–300K show that 1 exhibits a ferromagnetic coupling behavior with θ =3.57K, while 2 shows an antiferromagnetism with J =−11.09cm−1.
