Abstract

In this study, the digestive system contents of Cyprinus carpio Linnaeus, 1758 have been determined. The annual distributions of the organisms in the contents were evaluated by using Geometrical Index of Importance (GII). In the digestive system contents of C. carpio living in Keban Dam Lake, 53 food items (Bacilariophyta 28 species, Chloropyhta, 3 species, Cyanophyta 2 species, Dinophyta 1 species, Rotifera 10 species, Cladocera 7 species, Copepoda 1 species and Diptera 1 species), in Karakaya Dam Lake 40 food items (Bacilariophyta 19 species, Chlopyhta, 1 species, Rotifera 10 species, Cladocera 7 species, Copepoda 2 species and Diptera 1 species) and in Atatürk Dam lake 41 food items (Bacilariophyta 17, Chlorophyta 4 species, Rotifera 10 species, Cladocera 7 species, Copepoda 2 species and Diptera 1 species) have been identified. In these dam lakes species belonging to Bacillariophta were observed in every digestion system contents with high number of individuals and species richness. Species from Rotifera were the most recorded animal species. No empty digestive system content during the study period was observed. 2. Some Population Parameters of Mirror Carp (Cyprinus carpio L., 1758) Living in Keban Dam Lake, Elazığ, TURKEY.

Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the age and growth of mirror carp (Cyprinus carpio L., 1758) population of Keban Dam Lake, Elazığ, Turkey. For this purpose, the fish samples were obtained from the area near the set of Keban Dam Lake by using 20-40 mm mesh size gill nets from November 2016 to December 2016. 120 mirror carps (54 females and 66 males) were examined in the present study. They ranged from 2 to 8 in age, from 21.50 to 37.50 cm in total length and from 172.66 to 789.17 g in body weight. A nonlinear relationship was found between the total length and weight of C. carpio (W=0.0135*TL3.0403; r2=0.9724). The growth parameters were estimated as 43.09 cm for L8, 0.176 years-1 for k, -2.423 years for t0, 17 years for tmax, 2.51 for the growth performance index (?) and 1.62 for condition factor (Cf). The age-at-length data fitted to the Von Bertalanffy Growth Function was determined as Lt=43.09*[1-e-0.176(t+2.423)]. The absolute, relative and instantaneous growth values of mirror carp from Keban Dam Lake were the highest in the age range of 2-3, followed by the age range of 3-4. Abstract

In various tissues ofLuciobarbus esocinus,Cyprinus carpio, andCarassius gibeliowhich were taken from Keban Dam Lake Pertek region’s freshwaters, Turkey in January–February 2016, concentrations of mercury, nickel, lead, cadmium, arsenic, manganese, chromium, and cobalt were analysed by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) after microwave digestion. In fish muscle mean chromium concentration (0.614 mg kg−1inC. carpiomuscle) was higher than the maximum limits as set by the Federal Environmental Protection Agency and World Health Organisation. Additionally, mean concentration of lead (0.380 mg kg−1inC. gibeliomuscle) was higher compared to the maximum limit as set by Turkish Standards. Furthermore, in the assessment of the potential health risk, estimated weekly and daily intake of all metals were considerably below permissible tolerable weekly intake (PTWI) and permissible tolerable daily intake values. 4. Keban Baraj Gölü'nde Yaşayan Aynalı Sazan (Cyprinus carpio Linnaeus, 1758)'nın Otolit Biyometrisi.

Abstract

In this study, otolith biometry of mirror carp (C. carpio L., 1758) obtained from Keban Dam Lake were examined. For this purpose, 120 individuals (54 females and 66 males) were studied during November 2016-December 2016. After total length and weight of fish samples were determined, their sexes were also determined by examining of gonads. Then right and left otoliths were removed and cleaned. Otoliths weight were determined to the nearest ± 0.0001 g. The lengths and widths of otoliths were measured to the nearest ± 0.001 mm with a computer-aided image analysis program. The mean otolith weight (mg) values (right otolith-left otolith) of all population, the females and the males were (3.38-3.37), (3.29-3.29) and (3.45-3.44) respectively. The mean otolith length (mm) values were found to be (2.57-2.57), (2.56-2.54) and (2.58-2.59) respectively and the mean otolith width (mm) values were determined as (1.61-1.62), (1.60-1.60) and (1.62-1.63) respectively. The differences between right and left otolith data and between female-male otolith data were not statistically significant (P> 0.05). Otolith biometry-fish length relationships were also studied. 5. The Comparison of Three Cyprinid Species in Terms of Heavy Metals Accumulation in Some Tissues.

Abstract

In this study, three cyprinids species (Acanthobrama marmid, Cyprinus carpio, and Chondrostoma regium) from Keban Dam Lake, Elazığ, Turkey, were compared in terms of the levels of iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), chromium (Cr), cobalt (Co), cadmium (Cd), and lead (Pb) in muscle, skin, liver, gonad, and gill tissues. The Co, Cr, Cd, Mn, and Pb were not found in detectable levels in any organs and tissues of any species, according to results obtained by an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Only Fe, Cu, and Zn were detected in all tissues examined. The results obtained from different cyprinid species were compared to each other and to tolerable values for heavy metals provided from the Food and Agriculture Organization (Rome, Italy) to determine whether these fish species have any risk for human consumption. Abstract

Bu çalışmada, Keban Baraj Gölü'nden yakalanan Capoeta trutta (Heckel, 1843), Cyprinus carpio Linnaeus, 1758 ve Luciobarbus mystaceus (Pallas, 1814) balık türlerinin pul ve otolit boyları kullanılarak, geri hesaplama yöntemiyle daha genç bireylerin boylarının tahmin edilmesi amaçlandı. Bu amaçla, Ekim-Kasım 2017 tarihlerinde her bir tür için 20 balık örneği incelendi. Öncelikle balıkların toplam boyları ve ağırlıkları belirlendi ve daha sonra pul ve otolitleri çıkartıldı. Bilgisayar destekli bir mikroskop yardımıyla, balıkların pul ve otolit yaşları ile her yaş halkasının merkeze olan uzunlukları belirlendi. Pul için Fraser-Lee, otolit için ise Dahl-Lea geri hesaplama yöntemleri kullanılarak balıkların önceki yıllara ait uzunlukları hesaplandı.C. trutta için yaş grupları 4-8, toplam boy 35,0-46,6 cm, ağırlıkları ise 382,0-987,3 g arasında bulundu. L. mystaceus' un geri hesaplama yöntemi ile önceki yıllara ait tahmini toplam balık boyları ortalamaları, pul ışın boylarından yapılan hesaplamada; L1: 7,7 cm, L2: 14,9 cm,L3: 21,4 cm, L4: 28,1 cm, L5: 30,3 cm, L6: 33,5, L7: 35,6 cm olarak, otolit boylarından yapılan hesaplamada ise; L1: 7,5 cm, L2: 14,5 cm,L3: 19,2 cm, L4: 26,3 cm, L5: 29,6 cm, L6: 33,3 cm, L7: 33,9 olarak hesaplandı.Sonuç olarak, bu çalışmada C. carpio ve C. trutta türlerinde pul ışın boyu kullanılarak hesaplanan balık boyu değerleri, otolit boyu kullanılarak hesaplanan değerlere göre gerçek değerlere daha yakın bulundu. L. mystaceus türünde ise her iki kemiksi yapı kullanılarak elde edilen değerler ölçülen gerçek değerlerden daha düşük bulundu. Bu nedenle balıklarda geri hesaplama yöntemi kullanılarak yapılacak balık boyu tahminlerinde o tür için en uygun kemiksi yapının seçilmesi oldukça önemlidir. In this study, it was aimed to estimate the lengths of younger individuals from the scale and otolith lengths by using the back calculation methods for Capoeta trutta (Heckel, 1843), Cyprinus carpio Linnaeus, 1758 and Luciobarbus mystaceus (Pallas, 1814) caught from Keban Dam Lake. For this purpose, 20 fish samples for each species were examined in October-November 2017. First the total length and weight of the fish were determined, then the scales and otoliths were removed. With the help of computer aided microscope, the length of the scales and otoliths of the fish, and the lengths of each age ring were determined. Fraser-Lee and Dahl-Lea back-calculation methods were used for the scale and otolith respectively.C. trutta were between 4-8 in age, 35.0-46.6 cm in total length and 382.0-987.3 g in weight. The mean total lengths of C. trutta calculated using back-calculation methods from scale ray lengths and from otolith lengths were estimated as L1: 21.4 cm, L2: 25.6 cm, L3: 28.1 cm, L4: 31.4 cm, L5: 35.0 cm, L6: 36.5 cm, L7: 38.8 cm, L8: 40.6 cm and L1: 18.6 cm, L2: 21.5 cm, L3: 24.9 cm, L4: 26.8 cm, L5: 30.3 cm, L6: 33.0 cm, L7: 35.2 cm and L8: 37.8 cm respectively.C. carpio were between 4-8 in age, 31.2-45.8 cm in total length and 442.5-1483.3 g in weight. The mean total lengths of C. carpio calculated using back-calculation methods from scale ray lengths and from otolith lengths were estimated as L1: 15.8 cm, L2: 21.3 cm, L3: 28.3 cm, L4: 30.6 cm, L5: 35.5 cm, L6: 38.0 cm, L7: 42.5 cm, L8: 44.7 cm and L1: 15.2 cm, L2: 18.9 cm, L3: 26.6 cm, L4: 28.4 cm, L5: 32.7 cm, L6: 35.6 cm, L7: 40.8 cm and L8: 41.3 cm respectively.L. mystaceus were between 4-7 in age, 37.1–47.4 cm in total length and 426.1-874.1g in weight. The mean total lengths of L. mystaceus calculated using back-calculation methods from scale ray lengths and from otolith lengths were estimated as L1: 7.7 cm, L2: 14.9 cm, L3: 21.4 cm, L4: 28.1 cm, L5: 30.3 cm, L6: 33.5 cm, L7: 35.6 cm and L1: 7.5 cm, L2: 14.5 cm, L3: 19.2 cm, L4: 26.3 cm, L5: 29.6 cm and L6: 33.3 cm respectively.In conclusion, in this study, total length values of C. carpio and C. trutta species calculated by using scale ray lengths were found to be closer to the measured values than the values calculated by using otolith length. In the L. mystaceus species, the values obtained by using both bony structures were lower than the measured values. For this reason, it is very important to use the most suitable bony structure for fish species to be estimated fish length by using the back calculation method. 32

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, Kasım 2016-Aralık 2016 tarihleri arasında Elazığ Keban Baraj Gölü'nden yakalanan aynalı sazan (C carpio L., 1758) populasyonuna ait 54 adet dişi ve 66 adet erkek olmak üzere toplam 120 balığın otolit biyometrisi (ağırlık, boy ve en) ile toplam balık boyu, balık ağırlığı ve balık yaşı arasındaki ilişkiler araştırıldı. Bu amaçla, çalışmada balıkların sagittal otolitleri kullanıldı. Her ne kadar biyometrik ölçümlerde sağ ve sol otolitler arasındaki fark istatistiksel olarak önemsiz (P>0,05) bulunmuşsa da, değerlendirmede her iki otolitde kullanıldı.Balıkların yaşlarının belirlenmesinde hem sağ hem de sol otolitlerdeki yaş halkaları 2 farklı okuyucu tarafından okundu. Çalışmada incelenen aynalı sazanların 2-8 yaş grubu arasında dağılım gösterdikleri, ortalama boylarının tüm populasyonda 28,48 cm, dişilerde 28,17 cm, erkeklerde 28,73 cm; ortalama ağırlıklarının ise tüm populasyonda 374,44 g, dişilerde 360,19 g, erkeklerde 386,10 g olduğu belirlendi. Dişi ve erkek balıkların toplam boy ve ağırlıkları arasındaki farkın istatistiksel olarak önemli olmadığı görüldü (P>0,05).İncelenen balıkların ortalama otolit ağırlığı (mg) değerleri (sağ otolit-sol otolit) tüm populasyon, dişiler ve erkekler için sırasıyla (3,38-3,37), (3,29-3,29) ve (3,45-3,44) olarak; ortalama otolit boyu (mm) değerleri sırasıyla (2,57-2,57), (2,56-2,54) ve (2,58-2,59) olarak; ortalama otolit eni (mm) değerleri ise sırasıyla (1,61-1,62), (1,60-1,60) ve (1,62-1,63) olarak belirlendi. Sağ-sol otolit verileri ile dişi-erkek otolit verileri arasındaki farklar istatistiksel olarak önemsiz bulundu (P>0,05).Regresyon analiz sonuçlarına göre, incelenen populasyonun toplam boy-otolit ağırlığı, toplam boy-otolit boyu, toplam boy-otolit eni, balık ağırlığı-otolit ağırlığı, balık ağırlığı-otolit boyu, balık ağırlığı-otolit eni, balık yaşı-otolit ağırlığı, balık yaşı-otolit-boyu, balık yaşı-otolit eni arasında pozitif yönde orta veya kuvvetli derecede bir ilişki belirlendi. Sağ ve sol otolitlerin ağırlık, boy ve en değerleri arasında %90'ın üzerinde bir uyum bulundu. In this study, the relationships of weight, total length and age with otolith biometry (weight, length and width) of total 120 fish (54 females and 66 males) belong to mirror carp (C. carpio L., 1758) population obtained from Keban Dam Lake between November 2016-December 2016 were examined. For this purpose, sagittal otoliths of fish were used. Although the difference between right and left otoliths in biometric measurements was statistically insignificant (P>0.05), both otoliths were used for evaluation.In order to determination of the ages of fishes, age rings in both right and left otoliths were read by two different readers. The ages of mirror carps used in this study ranged between 2-8 years. Mean lengths were 28.48 cm in the all population, 28.17 cm in the females and 28.73 cm in the males; mean weights were 374.44 g in the whole population, 360.19 g in the females and 386.10 g in the males. The difference of the total length and weight between the female and male fishes was not statistically significant (P>0.05).The mean otolith weight (mg) values (right otolith-left otolith) of the all population, the females and the males were (3.38-3.37), (3.29-3.29) and (3.45-3.44) respectively; the mean otolith length (mm) values were found to be (2.57-2.57), (2.56-2.54) and (2.58-2.59) respectively and the mean otolith width (mm) values were determined as (1.61-1,62), (1.60-1.60) and (1.62-1.63) respectively. The differences between right and left otolith data and between female-male otolith data were not statistically significant (P> 0.05).According to the regression analysis results, an intermediate or strong positive relationship between the total fish length-otolith weight, total fish length-otolith length, total fish length-otolith width, fish weight-otolith weight, fish weight-otolith length, fish weight-otolith width, fish age-otolith weight, fish age-otolith-length, fish age-otolith width was determined. An agreement that was more than 90% was found between right and left otoliths in term of the weight, length and width values. 58

8. Aynalı sazan (Cyprinus carpio L., 1758) otolitlerinde kırma-yakma yöntemiyle yaş tayini

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, Keban Baraj Gölü’nde yaşayan aynalı sazan (Cyprinus carpio) populasyonuna ait 167 bireyin bütün halindeki otolit yaşları ile kırılıp-yakılan otolit yaşları tespit edilip aralarındaki benzerlikler ve farklılıklar grafik ve tablolar ile ifade edilmiştir. Kırılıp-yakılmadan önce bütün halindeki otolitlerin 9 tanesinde yaş halkası okunamazken, aynı otolitler kırılıp-yakıldıktan sonra yaş halkaları çok net bir şekilde okunabilmiştir. Bu nedenle, bütün olarak ve kırılıp-yakıldıktan sonra tespit edilen yaşlar karşılaştırılırken örnek sayısı 158 olarak alınmıştır. Her iki yöntem arasında tespit edilen yaş farkı en fazla 2 olarak bulunmuş ve aralarındaki uyum oranı % 70.89 olarak tespit edilmiştir. Uyumsuzluk oranları ise 1 yaş farkı için % 22.78, 2 yaş farkı için % 6.33 olarak saptanmıştır. Otolitlerin yüzeylerinden doğrudan yaş halkaları okunurken balığın yaşı ilerledikçe yaş halkalarının görünebilirliğinde zayıflamalar gözlenmiştir. Ancak, aynı otolitler kırılıp-yakıldıktan sonra tekrar incelendiğinde yaş halkaları net bir şekilde görülmüş ve yüzeylerinden yaş halkaları okunamayan otolitlerin de yaş halkaları çok net bir şekilde okunabilmiştir., n this study, whole otolith ages and broken-burnt otolith ages of 167 mirror carps (Cyprinus carpio) that live in Keban Dam Lake were determined and similarities and differences were showed on graphs and tables. Annulus could not read in 9 of the whole otoliths before the bro-ken-burnt process but in the same otoliths, annulus could read easily after the broken-burnt process. Thats why population size were taken as 158 when comparing the ages before and af-ter the broken-burnt process. Age differences between the two methods found out as 2 at most and consistence ratio between them determined as 70.89 %. Inconsistency ratio determined as 22.78 for age difference 1 and 6.33 % for age difference 2. Annulus could read easily from the surfaces of otoliths but when the age of otoliths increased visibility of annulus started to de-crease. But after broken-burnt process annulus of the same otoliths could be seen easily and otoliths whose annulus could not read, read easily after this process.
