This paper presents a digital gyroscope interface system for high-frequency bulk-acoustic-wave (BAW) gyroscopes with in-run automatic mode-matching (AMM) capability. The presented work demonstrates the design and implementation of the dual-mode (DM) operation architecture on a flexible digital platform, which allows for low-cost rapid development and evaluation of new functions and architectures. Two prototype silicon BAW gyroscopes are tested on this platform using the proposed system to verify the advantages of the DM architecture. The AMM in DM showed below 4-ppb mode split accuracy and fast converge time without overshoot or oscillation. The DM operation with in-run AMM substantially reduced the bias drift of the gyros, leading to significantly lower rate random walk (RRW) compared to conventional single-mode (SM) operation. The performance repeatability and stability over the temperature of the DM gyro system are characterized, showing as high as $50\times $ improvement compared to the SM architecture. This paper presents a detailed model of low-frequency oscillations and their damping within the Electric Power System (EPS) of Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H). The system is modeled using MATLAB software, analysing the steady state and dynamic responses. This research highlights the challenges and impacts of integrating renewable energy sources, such as wind farms, on grid stability and oscillation damping. The paper utilizes eigenvalue analysis to investigate the dynamic characteristics of the system, emphasizing the need for efficient damping strategies to maintain system stability. The methodology includes a comprehensive review of existing literature, the creation of a detailed EPS model of B&H, and the application of eigenvalue and oscillation amplitude analysis to determine damping ratios. The dynamic responses of hydro power plants, HPP Mostar and HPP Jablanica, to transient disturbances are analysed to validate the model and refine damping strategies. The results indicate that the B&H EPS is well-damped, with all eigenvalues possessing negative real parts, and demonstrate the system's resilience to small disturbances. The results are compared with the technical report on the integration of the wind power plant WPP Podveležje. This comparative analysis shows consistent patterns between the modeled calculations and empirical data, confirming the robustness of the EPS model. This alignment underscores the effectiveness of current damping mechanisms and provides a foundational strategy for enhancing system stability with increasing renewable energy penetration. The findings highlight the importance of developing advanced control strategies to sustain system stability as the integration of variable renewable energy sources continues to grow. In the commented paper, the authors considered a two-dimensional airfoil with nonlinear stiffness and damping, and derived the amplitude modulation equation (AME) of the system limit cycle oscillation around its bifurcation. This paper extends the characteristic ratio approach using novel inequalities to ensure zero/low overshoot for linear‐time‐invariant systems with zeros. The extension provided by this paper is based on the maximally‐flatness property of a transfer function, where the square‐magnitude of the transfer function is ensured to be a low‐pass filter. In order to be able to design low‐order/fixed structure controllers, a partial pole‐assignment approach is used instead of the full pole‐assignment used in the Characteristic Ratio Assignment (CRA) method. The developed inequalities and additional stability conditions are combined into an optimization problem using time domain restrictions when necessary. Although the method given in the paper is general, particular inequalities are developed for PI and PI‐PD controller cases, due to their frequent use in industrial applications. Similarly, First‐Order‐Plus‐Delay‐Time (FOPDT) and Second‐Order‐Plus‐Delay‐Time (SOPDT) systems are considered specifically, since most of the practical systems can be approximated by one of these types. The study is extended to plants with uncertainties where a theorem is developed to decrease computation time dramatically. The benefits of the proposed methods are demonstrated by several examples. In this paper, the compliance of interface between fixture elements and workpiece is theoretically and experimentally investigated. The proposed theoretical model allows modelling of the behaviour of all kinds of interfaces between fixture elements and workpiece, under arbitrary dynamic loads. Workpiece displacement relative to fixture element was determined by analytical solution of the Lagrange differential equations of motion. The control technology of virtual synchronization generator (VSG) based on energy storage system is proposed to compensate for the inertia and damping loss caused by the grid connection of distributed generators. However, with the addition of virtual inertia and damping, VSG is prone to generate frequency and power oscillation, and the regulating ability is weakened. For the above problems, this paper analyzes the inertia and damping characteristics of the synchronous motor in the rotation of synchronous motors, and applies artificial neural network control to VSG. In intelligent control strategy, a multi‐input‐output radial basis function (RBF) neural network is first proposed to adaptively adjust virtual inertia and damping. Finally, an experimental platform with a rated power of 1 kW and a variable load of 1 kW was built to validate the proposed control strategy. Linear rolling guideway (LRG) is an important part of the precision machine tool, which affects the machining accuracy of the whole machine tool. In this paper, based on the fundamental characteristic parameters obtained from experiments and mechanical impedance method, a novel contact model of the ball-raceway joint surface and the LRG is proposed. The HJG-DA35C LRG is tested and the corresponding experimental platform is established. The measured results under different working conditions are close to the predicted results of the model. The research results can be used to analyze and predict the static and dynamic characteristics of the LRG, provide a basis for rational design and performance improvement, and also lay a foundation for the performance prediction of the whole machine. Hybrid Foil Magnetic Bearings (HFMBs) are a promising bearing technology for high-speed, oil-free turbomachinery that structurally embeds a gas foil bearing (GFB) into the inner diameter of an active magnetic bearing (AMB). The flexible foil structure provides sufficient support stiffness for the rotor, while closed-loop control allows real-time adjustment of the dynamic performance of the bearing. In this paper, the static and dynamic performance of the HFMB is measured experimentally. The effect of the control gain on the static and dynamic performance of the HFMB is highlighted. The proportional gain increases the stiffness but weakens the stability of the system, while the differential gain increases the damping but unexpectedly increases the stiffness. The static and dynamic performance of the HFMB is compared with that of the GFB. At low excitation frequencies, the stability of the GFB is higher than that of the HFMB, while as the excitation frequency is increased, the stability of the HFMB exceeds that of the GFB. In this paper, the stress wave propagation and attenuation laws in heterogeneous materials such as rock and concrete are investigated by equating these materials to periodic materials through the viscoelastic analogy method. Firstly, the relaxation functions and stress response curves of the periodic materials are obtained by using a novel numerical inverse transformation method based on the viscoelastic analogy theory. Then, an experimental study of stress wave propagation in slender concrete rods was carried out on a Hopkinson pressure rod platform. The results show that there is a significant attenuation trend of the stress wave during 10 times of reflections. Comparison of the numerical inverse transform results with the experimental results shows that the decay rate in the experiment is faster than that predicted by simple viscosity. Finally, the effects of geometric dispersion and frictional dissipation of energy are considered in ABAQUS finite element simulations. The finite element analysis results show that inherent viscosity in heterogeneous materials can partially explain the stress wave attenuation in concrete. The viscoelastic simulation method effectively predicts stress wave attenuation in heterogeneous materials and provides theoretical insights for engineering applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Considering the negative resistance effect of power electronic equipment, unstable resonance problems may occur between wind farms and converter stations. This paper focuses on the resonance stability problem of a wind power base coupling with a multi-level converter−high-voltage direct-current transmission (MMC–HVDC) system. Firstly, the s-domain impedance models of the doubly-fed induction wind generator, the permanent magnet synchronous wind generator, and the modular MMC are built, through the theoretical derivation and simulation test. Secondly, based on the s-domain nodal admittance matrix method, the resonance structure of the wind power base coupling with an MMC–HVDC system is analysed, including the resonance mode frequencies, the resonance mode damping factors, the nodal participation factors, and the nodal voltage mode shapes. Thirdly, the main factors influencing the resonance structure are studied, including the topology of the wind power base, the capacity of the wind turbines, and the operation mode of the MMC station. Damping is an important factor contributing to errors in the measurement of rotational inertia using the torsion pendulum method. Identifying the system damping allows for minimizing the measurement errors of rotational inertia, and accurate continuous sampling of torsional vibration angular displacement is the key to realizing system damping identification. To address this issue, this paper proposes a novel method for measuring the rotational inertia of rigid bodies based on monocular vision and the torsion pendulum method. In this study, a mathematical model of torsional oscillation under a linear damping condition is established, and an analytical relationship between the damping coefficient, torsional period, and measured rotational inertia is obtained. A high-speed industrial camera is used to continuously photograph the markers on a torsion vibration motion test bench. After several data processing steps, including image preprocessing, edge detection, and feature extraction, with the aid of a geometric model of the imaging system, the angular displacement of each frame of the image corresponding to the torsion vibration motion is calculated. From the characteristic points on the angular displacement curve, the period and amplitude modulation parameters of the torsion vibration motion can be obtained, and finally the rotational inertia of the load can be derived. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method and system described in this paper can achieve accurate measurements of the rotational inertia of objects. Within the range of 0–100 × 10−3 kg·m2, the standard deviation of the measurements is better than 0.90 × 10−4 kg·m2, and the absolute value of the measurement error is less than 2.00 × 10−4 kg·m2. Compared to conventional torsion pendulum methods, the proposed method effectively identifies damping using machine vision, thereby significantly reducing measurement errors caused by damping. This paper proposes a method to design power system stabilizers (PSSs) based on single-machine infinite-bus system models to mitigate the risk of low-frequency electro- mechanical power oscillations in an N-machine power system. First, models of N fabricated identical-machine power systems are established for the N-machine power system. Analysis in the paper indicates that the electromechanical oscillation mode of fabricated identical-machine power systems with the least damping is of less damping than the electromechanical oscillation modes of N-machine power system. Second, it is proved that models of fabricated identical-machine power systems are dynamically equivalent to the single-machine infinite-bus system models. Finally, it is suggested that the PSSs are designed using single-machine infinite-bus system models to enhance the least damped electromechanical oscillation mode of fabricated identical-machine power systems. This eventually improves the damping of electromechanical oscillation modes of N-machine power system, thus mitigating the risk of low-frequency electromechanical power oscillations. This paper discusses a recent event in the western American power system when a forced oscillation was observed at a frequency that was close to a well-known 0.38-Hz inter-area electromechanical mode frequency of the western system. The event motivates a systematic investigation in this paper on the possibility of resonant interactions between forced oscillations and electromechanical inter-area oscillatory modes in power systems. When the natural oscillatory mode of a power system is poorly damped, and the forced oscillation occurs at a frequency close to system mode frequency at critical locations for the mode, resonance is observed in simulation test cases of the paper. It is shown that the MW oscillations on tie-lines can be as high as 477 MW from a 10-MW forced oscillation in Kundur test system because of resonance. This paper discusses the underlying system conditions and effects as related to resonance in power systems caused by forced oscillations and discusses ways to detect such scenarios using synchrophasors. Simulated data from Kundur two-area test power system as well as measurement data from western American power system are used to study the effect of forced oscillations in power systems. Tuned mass dampers (TMDs) are commonly used to mitigate vibrations in civil structures. There is a growing demand for new solutions that offer similar effectiveness as TMDs but with reduced mass. In this context, this paper investigates active (ATMD) and semi-active (STMD) tuned mass dampers with relative displacement and velocity feedback. The control force of the ATMD is assumed to be the sum of viscous damping and either positive or negative stiffness forces. This control force is calibrated for a specific parameter K such that the effectiveness of the ATMD in reducing harmonic vibrations matches that of the TMD with K times larger mass. The optimal calibration is derived based on the mathematical reformulation of an existing optimal acceleration feedback control algorithm. The control approach for the ATMD is then applied to the STMD. Subsequently, the sub-optimal STMD is analyzed, with a focus on its limitations arising from the clipping of active forces. Finally, the paper presents a calibration of the STMD using a numerical optimization method. In this paper, the internal and external cancellation phenomena for damped beams subjected to multi-moving loads are investigated in detail. To start, the theory for the vibration of a simply supported beam is revisited by including the effect of damping. For the first time, a simple expression is derived for the free vibration of the damped beam under multi-moving loads. Based on the concept of local minimum, two cancellation conditions are identified. One is the internal cancellation, which relates to the inherent property of the beam and is conventionally known. The other is the newly formulated external cancellation that relates to the number and spacing of moving loads. For comparison, both the resonant condition and the optimal criterion for span length of the bridge are also briefed. By comparing with the classical solution, the present simple expression for the free vibration of the beam is firstly validated. Then the factors affecting the cancellation are investigated against various load cases and damping levels. The results show that external cancellation occurs more frequently due to the increase in the number and spacing of the moving loads. The damping of the beam has a leaking effect on cancellation, in that nonzero vibration may occur, but it is also quickly damped out by damping itself. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper proposes a new robust method for accurately and reliably estimating remote bus frequencies in a power system. Two different measurement sources for the remote bus frequency are considered, that is, the ideal Frequency Divider (FD) and the Synchronous Reference Frame Phase Locked Loops (SRF‐PLLs). Each measurement signal encounters different uncertainties and data quality issues. In this paper, both data sources are employed and fused together to better estimate the remote bus frequencies. To this end, the model structure of the power system is selected and an Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) is utilized together with a fusion covariance intersection method to enhance the accuracy of the estimated bus frequency. Since the fusion estimation method fails in case of quality issues on both channels, a robust Generalized Maximum‐likelihood UKF (GM‐UKF) using a novel outlier detection criteria is developed. The impact of the resulting robust fusion filter on the estimation of the remote bus frequencies and on the performance of WAPSS, which makes use of the estimated frequencies as the feedback signal, is examined via simulations. The results demonstrate the excellent performance and reliability of the proposed method in dealing with noise filtering and outlier suppression while ensuring a high statistical efficiency. This paper studies regularity properties of the weak solutions to the 3D Navier–Stokes equations with damping in the whole space and bounded domains. We find the space restriction on the initial velocity to guarantee the local existence of strong solutions. Based on it, we complete the existence results for the global strong solutions in the whole space and improve the restriction on the damping exponent for the existence of the global strong solutions in the bounded domains. In this paper, we are concerned with L 2 decay of weak solutions of several well-known incompressible fluid models, such as the n-dimensional ( n ≥ 2 ) Navier–Stokes equations with fractional hyperviscosity, the three-dimensional convective Brinkman–Forchheimer equations and the generalized SQG equation. A new approach, different from the classical Fourier splitting method develpoed by Schonbek (Commun Partial Differ Equ 11:733–763, 1986) and the spectral representation technique by Kajikiya and Miyakawa (Math Z 192:135-148,1986), is presented.
