Abstract

The article examines the educational value of fragments of the Dead Sea Scrolls, which were bought by the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and by Azusa Pacific University in California. While the fragments raise the colleges profile, several scholars are uncomfortable with the idea that universities will pay millions of dollars for high-profile objects to enhance their academic reputations. The prevalence of looted artifacts is discussed.
