The latest developments combining deep learning technology and medical image data have attracted wide attention and provide efficient noninvasive methods for the early diagnosis of breast cancer. The success of this task often depends on a large amount of data annotated by medical experts, which is time-consuming and may not always be feasible in the biomedical field. The lack of interpretability has greatly hindered the application of deep learning in the medical field. Currently, deep stable learning, including causal inference, make deep learning models more predictive and interpretable. In this study, to distinguish malignant tumors in Breast Imaging-Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) category 3-4A breast lesions, we propose BD-StableNet, a deep stable learning model for the automatic detection of lesion areas. In this retrospective study, we collected 3103 breast ultrasound images (1418 benign and 1685 malignant lesions) from 493 patients (361 benign and 132 malignant lesion patients) for model training and testing. Compared with other mainstream deep learning models, BD-StableNet has better prediction performance (accuracy = 0.952, area under the curve = 0.982, precision = 0.970, recall = 0.941, F 1-score = 0.955 and specificity = 0.965). The lesion area prediction and class activation map results both verify that our proposed model is highly interpretable. The results indicate that BD-StableNet significantly enhances diagnostic accuracy and interpretability, offering a promising noninvasive approach for the diagnosis of BI-RADS category 3-4A breast lesions. Rationale and Objectives: The proliferative nature of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is closely related to early recurrence following radical resection. This study develops and validates a deep learning (DL) prediction model to distinguish between proliferative and non-proliferative HCCs using dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI), aiming to refine preoperative assessments and optimize treatment strategies by assessing early recurrence risk., Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study, 355 HCC patients from two Chinese medical centers (April 2018-February 2023) who underwent radical resection were included. Patient data were collected from medical records, imaging databases, and pathology reports. The cohort was divided into a training set (n = 251), an internal test set (n = 62), and external test sets (n = 42). A DL model was developed using DCE-MRI images of primary tumors. Clinical and radiological models were generated from their respective features, and fusion strategies were employed for combined model development. The discriminative abilities of the clinical, radiological, DL, and combined models were extensively analyzed. The performances of these models were evaluated against pathological diagnoses, with independent and fusion DL-based models validated for clinical utility in predicting early recurrence., Results: The DL model, using DCE-MRI, outperformed clinical and radiological feature-based models in predicting proliferative HCC. The area under the curve (AUC) for the DL model was 0.98, 0.89, and 0.83 in the training, internal validation, and external validation sets, respectively. The AUCs for the combined DL and clinical feature models were 0.99, 0.86, and 0.83 in these sets, while the AUCs for the combined DL, clinical, and radiological model were 0.99, 0.87, and 0.8, respectively. Among models predicting early recurrence, the DL plus clinical features model showed superior performance., Conclusion: The DL-based DCE-MRI model demonstrated robust performance in predicting proliferative HCC and stratifying patient risk for early postoperative recurrence. At present, the global pandemic as it relates to novel coronavirus pneumonia is still a very difficult situation. Due to the recent outbreak of novel coronavirus pneumonia, novel chest X-ray (CXR) images that can be used for deep learning analysis are very rare. To solve this problem, we propose a deep learning framework that integrates a convolutional neural network and a capsule network. DenseCapsNet, a new deep learning framework, is formed by the fusion of a dense convolutional network (DenseNet) and the capsule neural network (CapsNet), leveraging their respective advantages and reducing the dependence of convolutional neural networks on a large amount of data. Using 750 CXR images of lungs of healthy patients as well as those of patients with other pneumonia and novel coronavirus pneumonia, the method can obtain an accuracy of 90.7% and an F1 score of 90.9%, and the sensitivity for detecting COVID-19 can reach 96%. As one of the most destructive, hazardous, and frequent marine geohazards, correctly recognizing submarine landslides holds substantial importance for regional risk assessment, disaster prevention, and marine resource development. Many conventional approaches to prediction and mapping necessitate the involvement of expert insights, oversight, and extensive field investigations, which can result in significant time and effort invested in the prediction process. This paper focuses on employing a deep neural network semantic segmentation technique to detect submarine landslides to replace previous methods, such as numerical analysis and physical modeling, to predict and identify the landslide areas quickly. The peripheral zone of the western Iberian Sea is selected as the study area. Since the neural network image recognition task usually requires RGB images as input data, factors such as slope, hillshade, and elevation extracted from digital elevation model (DEM) data are used to synthesize RGB images through band synthesis methods, and the number and diversity of data are increased utilizing data enhancement. Based on the classical semantic segmentation model DeepLabV3, this paper proposes an improved deep learning method, which strengthens the ability of model feature extraction for complex situations by adding an attention mechanism module, improving the spatial pyramid pooling module, and improving the landslide intersection over union metric from 0.4257 to 0.5219 and the F1-score metric from 0.609 to 0.6631 to achieve effective identification of submarine landslides. With the development of artificial intelligence technology and computer hardware functions, deep learning algorithms have become a powerful auxiliary tool for medical image analysis. This study was an attempt to use statistical methods to analyze studies related to the detection, segmentation, and classification of breast cancer in pathological images. After an analysis of 107 articles on the application of deep learning to pathological images of breast cancer, this study is divided into three directions based on the types of results they report: detection, segmentation, and classification. We introduced and analyzed models that performed well in these three directions and summarized the related work from recent years. Based on the results obtained, the significant ability of deep learning in the application of breast cancer pathological images can be recognized. Furthermore, in the classification and detection of pathological images of breast cancer, the accuracy of deep learning algorithms has surpassed that of pathologists in certain circumstances. Our study provides a comprehensive review of the development of breast cancer pathological imaging-related research and provides reliable recommendations for the structure of deep learning network models in different application scenarios. • We have designed two self-supervised pretext tasks: masking image reconstruction and contrastive learning, which can train the encoder to have the ability to represent local-global features. • We discuss the mask ratio, which is suitable for pathology-specific training methodologies based on the masked image modeling paradigm. • We selected three pathological image datasets and proved the effectiveness of GCMAE algorithm through extensive experiments. • An automatic pathology image diagnosis process was designed based on the GCMAE to improve the credibility of the model in clinical applications. Using digital pathology slide scanning technology, artificial intelligence algorithms, particularly deep learning, have achieved significant results in the field of computational pathology. Compared to other medical images, pathology images are more difficult to annotate, and thus, there is an extreme lack of available datasets for conducting supervised learning to train robust deep learning models. In this paper, we introduce a self-supervised learning (SSL) model, the Global Contrast-masked Autoencoder (GCMAE), designed to train encoders to capture both local and global features of pathological images and significantly enhance the performance of transfer learning across datasets. Our study demonstrates the capability of the GCMAE to learn transferable representations through extensive experiments on three distinct disease-specific hematoxylin and eosin (H&E)-stained pathology datasets: Camelyon16, NCT-CRC, and BreakHis. Moreover, we propose an effective automated pathology diagnosis process based on the GCMAE for clinical applications.
