El presents work was carried out with the objective of elaborating a strategy of handling and conservation of the soil in 12.5 ha of agricultural production of the Agricultural Polytechnic Institute (IPA) “Enrique Vilar Figueredo", in the municipality of Manzanillo, province Granma, starting from the characterization of the soils. For it were used several Standdars, such as ISO 10390: 1999; NC 51: 1999; NC 52:1999; and NC 20: 2009, which establish the guidelines and methods to carry out the taking of samples, besides being able to determine, the assimilable Phosphor and Potassium, pH, and content of organic matter. Inside the main results were found that Luvisols is the one of more vulnerability to the erosion and degradation due to the combination of such diverse factors as undulation of the land, laminate hydric erosion and furrow erosion, the anthropic action caused by the wrong handling, application of inadequate technologies and practices and climatic factors. Is not this way in the case of Cambisols because it presents smaller undulation, provoking that the hydric erosion is smaller and due to its effective depth, that is of 0.25 m, used in the grass production, avoiding the dragging of the soil particles. Finally, it was appreciated that with the characterization to the soil resource in the IPA was proven that the factor of more risk is the hydric and current erosion of these soils, due to the undulation, stone content and anthropic action that prevails in most of the area, and the intense rains in the period of May-November, among other factors.
