Introduction: Implant placement in the maxillary anterior area requires sufficient quantity and quality of both soft and hard tissue. In cases where soft and hard tissues are insufficient, additional regeneration using biomaterials is recommended. Treatment using bovine-derived xenograft and acellular dermal matrix (ADM) may increase bone volume and soft tissue thickness. Case and management: A 65-year-old woman sought help for discomfort and aesthetic issues with her denture, reporting missing teeth (11, 12, 13, 14, and 21) and bone volume shrinkage due to disuse atrophy. Intraoral examination revealed 1 mm gingival thickness. CBCT showed labio-palatal bone thickness of 6.0 mm, 5.8 mm, and 4.7 mm for teeth 21, 12 and 14, respectively. Implant planning and surgical guide fabrication were carried out before the surgery. Surgery included the placement of implants 3.3 mm in diameter and 12 mm in length, with the use of xenograft and ADM. Three months post-op, improvements in soft and hard tissues were observed, with a final prosthesis being a long-span implant-supported bridge. Conclusions: Disuse alveolar atrophy causes soft and hard tissue deficiency. The use of xenograft and ADM show favourable results even on a geriatric patient. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to develop a novel retention method combining the retrievability of the screw retention method with the ideal occlusal table and the aesthetic capability of cement retention. Coping was developed to have lateral screw access, allowing the screw to lock the coping using lateral forces from screw tightening and friction between the tip of the screw and the sandblasted surface of an abutment. Sandblasting parameters varied based on particle size. The results show a positive correlation to surface roughness and indicate a positive correlation to retention force. The highest surface roughness and retention force result was shown by groups that were sandblasted using 686 μm of aluminum oxide. Experiments on the tightening strength of 48 subjects measured in simulated conditions similar to the assembly conditions of lateral screw retention implants resulted in a mean of 69.75 Nmm with the highest and lowest values of 120.67 Nmm and 34.67 Nmm. This result became the basis of tightening torque variation. Each group's retention capability is measured and compared to cement-retained dental implants. The results show that the tightening torque correlates positively with retention force, with the highest average retention score showed by lateral screws retained under a tightening torque of 200 Nmm—317.87 N higher than cement-retained screws. Cement-retained remain the most popular connection type in dental implant single crown. Cement retained offers simplicity, aesthetic crown, compensation for angulated implant, however there are disadvantages such as the difficulty for removing the excess cement, retrievability, and strictly not for minimum restorative space. Due to this disadvantage some researcher try to modified abutment surface in order to increase retention. Some of the studies suggest sandblasting, groove adding, extension cement to screw access channel, etc. The aim from this scoping review was to describe the modification of standard dental abutment cement-retained single implant crown. A scoping review was conducted to map types of modification on abutment cement-retained in order to increase retention on ten years of research (December 2010-December 2020). All studies were in-vitro and describe with three primary techniques (groove, screw access extension, surface treatment). According to the ten studies evaluated, the modification on abutment cement-retained was used mainly with sandblasting and extension screw access channel. Objective: To evaluate the improvement in masticatory performances two weeks after posterior implant restoration. Material and Methods: Nine patients with missing first and second molars were included in the study. Masticatory performances were evaluated using subjective and objective methods utilizing colorchangeable chewing gum and the visual analog scale (VAS) assessment. The subjects were asked to chew the color-changeable chewing gums before and two weeks after the posterior implant restoration. Their expectations regarding aesthetics and function were verified on the VAS before implant placement. Additionally, the VAS was used for the posttreatment completion rating two weeks after the implant restoration. Results: Significant differences in masticatory performance were noted at baseline (before implant posterior restoration) and two weeks after implant restoration (p<0.05). The posttreatment aesthetic and functional expectations ratings significantly exceeded the expectations (p<0.05). Conclusion: Masticatory performances were improved two weeks after implant restoration. In addition, the significant posttreatment ratings of the patients exceeded their initial expectations. In particular, patients with poor masticatory functions demonstrated significant improvements and satisfaction following implant restoration compared to those with good mastication. Clinical examinations to monitor the osseointegration process were carried out using a new tool, the Low Resonance Frequency Analyzer (LRFA), designed to overcome the deficiencies of the Resonance Frequency Analyzer (RFA). The LRFA consists of two main elements: an accelerometer sensor as a vibration detector and a basic micro-system for controlling accelerometer sensor data, which is then forwarded to the computer. We compared osseointegration in dental implants using a RFA and a LRFA to determine if the LRFA accurately detected osseointegration. Submerged dental implants, obtained from 20 patients, were subjected to RFA and LRFA examinations. We evaluated osseointegration upon placement and after the third months. Upon placement, the mean Implant Stability Quotient (ISQ) obtained with RFA was 59.05 ± 3.72. It increased to 69.25 ± 2.77 at three months. Using LRFA, the mean ISQ was 0.06 ± 0.01 upon placement and increased to 110.11 ± 0.01 at three months. Both devices measured osseointegration accurately. The increasing popularity of dental implants has resulted in rising expectations towards anterior dental implants. The self-evaluation Orofacial Esthetic Scale (OES) measures an individual’s satisfaction level towards his/her appearance, meanwhile Pink Esthetic Score and White Esthetic Score (PES/WES) evaluates soft tissue and restoration aspects of anterior dental implants. The yet-undefined association between esthetic parameter and patient satisfaction level causes some difficulties for dentists to produce esthetic restorations that suit every patient’s wishes. We examined the association between esthetic parameters and patient satisfaction level with anterior dental implants. Thirty-three individuals (≥17years old) with anterior dental implants evaluated their satisfaction level using OES questionnaire. Intraoral photographs of six anterior teeth from each subject were assessed using PES/WES index. Pearson correlation was used to analyze the association between esthetic parameter and satisfaction level, and effect of sex, implant location, and age >35years. Spearman correlation was used to analyze the effect of age 17–35years. A medium-strength (r=0.501) positive correlation existed between esthetic parameter and satisfaction level (P=0.03), and this had the greatest impact on female (P=0.03), age >35years (P=0.01), and maxillary central incisor (P=0.01) groups. Dental implant treatment is one of the best alternatives in replacing missing teeth. Osseointegration is an important factor in determining its success, assessed from process that occurs between implant and bone as the criterion. Histomorphometry is the most accurate osseointegration evaluation method. The aim of this research was to develop and evaluate whether Low Resonance Frequency Analyzer (LRFA) could be used as an alternative tool for osseointegration evaluation. This study conducted in two stages; LRFA fabrication and diagnostic testing. Osseointegration process evaluation was the second stage. Six male Macaque fascicularis aged about 6 years, weighing from 4.5 to 6 kg were the research subject. Evaluation of were performed through clinical examination and LRFA measurement on the first and second week, then once every month until the fourth month. Animals were sacrificed after the fourth month and histomorphometric examination was performed. The result of histomorphometric examination was compared with LRFA measurement using Pearson correlation coefficient. ROC curve of diagnostic test showed that sensitivity and specificity of LRFA was 90.2% (optimal values). Statistical analysis showed strong correlation between LRFA measurement and histomorphometric examination (R=0.8, P<0.5). With the result was as good as histomorphometric examination, therefore LRFA is an alternative osseointegration evaluation tool. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recent technological developments have increased the popularity of dental implants. This has led to higher expectations for implants in both the functional and aesthetic areas. Aesthetic evaluations tend to be subjective, causing problems when trying to predict patients' satisfaction. The Pink Esthetic Score/White Esthetic Score (PES/WES) is an index used to objectively evaluate anterior implant restorations while the Orofacial Aesthetic Scale (OAS) is a questionnaire used to evaluate the patients' perceptions of their orofacial appearance. The current study assesses the relationship between the objective (using PES/WES) and subjective evaluation (using OAS) of an aesthetic implant restoration. Fifty-six intraoral photographs of anterior implant restorations (N=56) were taken and evaluated using PES/WES. Subjects were then instructed to fill out the OAS questionnaire. The mean total of PES/WES is 13.6±1.67 (range:11 to 15). The mean total of PES is 7±0.70 (range:6 to 8). The two PES parameters of the distal papilla and root convexity (1.6±0.54) have the highest mean values, whereas the variable level of facial mucosa (1±0.01) is the most difficult to satisfy.
