Introduction: This study sought to monitor the anxiety and depression symptoms, cognition, functioning, and mortality of inpatients diagnosed with delirium and to compare the results with those of a control group comprised of inpatients without delirium. Materials and methods: The study group consisted of 50 inpatients with delirium, while the control group comprised 50 inpatients from the same clinic who did not have delirium. A sociodemographic questionnaire and the Delirium Rating Scale (DRS), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), and Global Assessment Scale (GAS) were used for data collectio n purposes. Results: The MMSE and GAS scores of the delirium group were significantly lower than those of the control group at the first assessment. In addition, the increase seen in the MMSE scores of the delirium group over time was significant. At the three - and six- month follow-up assessments, the mortality rate of the delirium group was higher than that of the contro l group. Moreover, the mean survival duration of the delirium group at the three- and six-month assessments was significantly shorter than that of the control group. Conclusion: The findings showed that the delirium patients experienced deterioration in their cognition and functioning in the short term. Furthermore, the findings revealed life expectancy to be shortened in the delirium patients. To verify and extend the present findings, longitudinal studies involving larger sample sizes and longer follow-up periods are required. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: Gynecological cancers are among the most important health problems of women, with high rates of morbidity and mortality. These patients also have high rates of anxiety and depression symptoms which can affect the quality of life, self-care, self-esteem, body image, adherence, response to treatment and prognosis of the cancer. This study aimed to investigate the anxiety and depression symptoms, self-esteem and body image among patients with gynecological cancers. Material and Method: In this study, anxiety and depression symptoms, self-esteem, body image satisfaction, and the effect of cancer on these parameters were investigated in eighty-one patients with gynaecological cancer who underwent surgery and have been taking chemotherapy currently. After obtaining the informed consent, a socio-demographic data form, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Body Image Scale (BIS) and Coopersmith Self- Esteem Scale (CSES) were applied to all participants. Results: HADS-anxiety score was positively correlated with HAD depression score (p<0.001) and negatively correlated with CSES (p≤0.01) score. HADS-depression score was negatively correlated with BIS score (p<0.01). HADS-anxiety score predicted the decrease in self-esteem weakly. HADS-depression score predicted the decrease in self-esteem and deterioration in body image as close to statistically significant. Increased symptoms of anxiety and depression as well as declined self-esteem and impaired body image were observed in patients treated for gynecological cancers. Conclusion: In patients with gynecological cancers, the existence of possible anxiety and depression symptoms, impairment in selfesteem and body image should be screened; if detected, the treatment should be performed for the health of the patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between sociodemographic variables and depressive symptoms in uncomplicated pregnant women at term. Four hundred-seventeen pregnant patients at term who attended to antenatal outpatient clinic without significant risk factors were recruited for the application of questionnaire survey, and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). The cut-off point of the scale was evaluated as 17. Accordingly, the patients with BDI scores between 0 and 16 were classified in Group 1, while the other patients were categorized in Group 2. Educational level, occupation, husband's occupation, habitat, social security status, level of financial income, previous psychiatric illness in her or anyone in her family, smoking status, difficulty in arrival to a health center, family structure, migration status, social support provided from her family and close environment, the number of her marriages, the status of planned or unplanned pregnancy, the outcome of previous pregnancy, the use of vitamin pills in pregnancy, conceiving with a medical treatment (except in vitro fertilization), and number of parities were not significantly different between groups. The presence of anxiety for fetal health, unfavorable life experience, marital problems, history of premenstrual syndrome, the lower birth weights, and the absence of a civil marriage and regular antenatal visits in Group 2 were significantly more frequent than Group 1. As a conclusion; many individual variables of uncomplicated pregnants at term can induce the development of depressive symptoms. The early recognition of the risk factors that aggravate depressive mood of the pregnants may aid in taking measures aiming to improve maternal and neonatal heath state. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Self-esteem, is the approval of the self-concept by evaluating himself that defines person to be self-satisfied, likeable, lovable, self confident without seeing one's self inferior or superior. Higher self-esteem is associated with positive body image, lower self-esteem is associated with negative body image. Depression is a clinical syndrome that might deteriorate self esteem. In this research we aimed to determine the effects of depresssion and anxiety symptoms on self-esteem and social appearance anxiety. Methods: One hundred and seventy six randomly selected participants between the ages of 12-24 those admitted to Ankara Zekai Tahir Burak Women Health Education and Research Hospital Youth Center and accepted to participate the research were taken to the study. Participants were asked to fullfill sociodemographic data form, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), Social Appearance Anxiety Scale (SAAS), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). Results: Regarding to the relationship between RSES, SAAS, BDI and BAI, strongly positive correlation was found. Level of income and parents education is negatively correlated with all inventory scores. According to the lineary regression analyses BDI scores positively predicted RSES and SAAS scores, level of income negatively predicted SAAS scores and losing the effects of significancy of other correlations were shown. Also SAAS and RSES scores were positively correlated with each other. Conclusion: This research shows that depression severity has a worsening effect on social appearance anxiety and self-esteem. Economic difficulties increase social appearance anxiety. Also social appearance anxiety and self-esteem are related with each other. We think especially in countries majority with young generations such as Turkey, according to researches on relationship between these clinical entities goverments might develop individual, family, and psychosocial rehabilatiton based social programs, those positively affect the mental health of young people and help them in their future lives to become happier and healthier individuals. Psychosis and depression are mental disorders that can exist secondary to some medical disorders and may be associated with the use of drugs. The most frequent causes of these disorders are substance abuse, infections (especially central nervous system infections), hormone or collagen tissue disorders, cancer, and side effect of drugs used to treat diseases. Hypercalcemia is referred as high level of calcium in the blood - higher than 10,2 mg/dl - and is often seen with parathyroid adenoma. Hypercalcemia may cause several symptoms. In this case report, we represent the case of a patient who presented with delusion of persecution and depressive symptoms probably secondary to hypercalcemia.
