Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors related to burnout of nurses working at intensive care units. Methods: The subjects of this study included 149 nurses in intensive care units at six general hospitals. The data was analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 23.0 program with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis were used. Results: The factors significantly affecting burnout included work stress ‘high to very high’ (β=.39, p<.001), communication skill (β=-.24, p=.001), subjective health status ‘normal’ (β=.22, p=.001) and ‘bad to very bad’ (β=.20, p=.002) and problem-driven coping (β=-.19, p=.010) in order, and the explanatory power of these factors to the burnout was 46.3%. Conclusion: Based on the results, effective interventions need to be provided to improve intensive care unit nurses’ health conditions and to relieve their work stress. Background. Primary health care physicians are at high risk of burnout. In addition, with the current conditions, they can have an effort-reward imbalance. However, studies on this topic concerning public primary health care (Puskesmas) physicians in Indonesia are still limited. Objectives. To assess whether the effort-reward imbalance among Puskesmas physicians is associated with two main burnout dimensions: emotional exhaustion and depersonalisation. Material and methods. This cross-sectional study surveyed physicians working in Puskesmas in Indonesia using the short version of the Effort-Reward Imbalance Questionnaire and Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey questionnaires. Results. Of 226 physicians, 45.6% perceived high effort and low reward. A perceived effort-reward imbalance was higher among those working more than 40 hours weekly in work shifts and in urban areas. Significant predictors of emotional exhaustion included effortreward ratio (β = 0.426; p < 0.001), overcommitment (β = 0.393; p < 0.001) and working period at Puskesmas (β = - 0.122; p = 0.038). Predictors of depersonalisation include effort-reward ratio (β = 0.257; p -= 0.001), overcommitment (β = 0.170; p = 0.024), and night shift (β = 0.134; p -= 0.042). Conclusions. The effort-reward imbalance is significantly associated with emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. Therefore, it is important to set up the maximum working hours, balanced shift work arrangements, and standardized rewards for Puskesmas physicians. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: to investigate the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome among health professions undergraduate students and its association with sociodemographic and academic variables. Method: cross-sectional study, carried out with 231 health professions undergraduate students between September and October 2020. The Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey was applied to evaluate Burnout Syndrome and a questionnaire was associated with a survey of sociodemographic and academic variables. The association between categorical variables was evaluated using the Chi-square and Fisher’s Exact tests. A 5% significance level was considered. Results: the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome was 31.2%. The course variable showed statistical significance (p<0.05) for Burnout Syndrome, with higher prevalence among Veterinary Medicine and Dentistry students. Objective: to investigate the percentage of professionals with an intention to leave Nursing during the COVID-10 pandemic, as well as the factors associated with this outcome. Method: a crosssectional study conducted by applying questionnaires to 890 Nursing professionals from the municipality of Pelotas (RS). The outcome was identified by means of self-reports obtained from the question itself. Relative Risks, as well as their Confidence Intervals (95%), were calculated for the independent variables by means of unadjusted and adjusted Poisson regression. Results: the percentage of professionals who stated their intention to leave Nursing was 24.6% (n=219). There was a positive association between the outcome and higher schooling levels, negative evaluation of institutional support, moderate or intense overload, and skin lesions. A negative association was also observed between the outcome and individuals aged 51 years old or more. Conclusion: except for skin lesions, aspects such as lack of support and overload, although they may have been intensified during the pandemic, do not represent a new fact in the health services. Aim: To understand the experiences and perceptions of burnout and compassion fatigue among Organ and Tissue Donation Coordinators (OTDCs) in Canada. Methods: A series of virtual focus group discussions were held with OTDCs from across Canada to discuss burnout and compassion fatigue as part of a national research project in collaboration with Canadian Blood Services, the organ donation and transplantation community, and experts in the field. Results: Eleven participants, including Canadian OTDCs and experts in the area of burnout, compassion fatigue and organ donation, participated in the discussion. OTDCs agreed that the high pressure and demands of their role challenge their workplace wellbeing and mental health. As a result, some of the OTDCs have recognized signs and symptoms of burnout and compassion fatigue throughout their career. Although OTDCs support each other and develop their own personal coping and protective strategies, there is a continued need to develop specific strategies to help mitigate work-related issues and increase retention of experienced OTDCs in Canada. Conclusion: The highly demanding role of OTDCs in Canada have challenged their mental health and work-related wellbeing, leaving them more susceptible to experiencing issues such as burnout and compassion fatigue. Future research is needed to investigate the levels of work-related issues among OTDCs, as well as to develop specific interventions to help support the work-related wellbeing and mental health of these professionals.
