Psychosocial and structural stressors and low engagement in medical care likely contribute to the disproportionate burden of chronic disease among sexual minority men (SMM) across the life course. However, how these stressors impact engagement in medical care among young SMM (YSMM) across racial identities remains understudied. The association of psychosocial and structural stressors with forgoing care among YSMM across racial identities was examined using race-stratified adjusted logistic regression of cross-sectional data. Among 737 HIV-negative SMM aged 16–24 years, nearly all (93%) experienced discrimination in their daily lives. Non-Hispanic/Latinx Black participants reported significantly higher levels of discrimination, exposure to community violence, and food insecurity. Medical mistrust and mental health were not significantly different across racial groups. In the full sample model, education, food insecurity, and discrimination were associated with forgoing care. Among the non-Hispanic/Latinx White sample, medical mistrust and discrimination were associated with forgoing care. Among the non-Hispanic/Latinx Black sample, discrimination was associated with forgoing care. Among the Hispanic/Latinx sample, food insecurity was associated with forgoing care. Psychosocial and structural stressors were common in this YSMM cohort, and significantly different across racial/ethnic identities. Race-stratified analysis revealed differences in the association of stressors with forgoing care among YSMM across racial identities, not appreciated in the analysis limited to the total study population. Aims: This systematic review with meta-analysis aimed to verify the effects of Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) on the strength, muscle mass and physical function of older individuals and compare to the exercises program with low and high load. Methods: The search was performed in the databases: Pubmed, Science Direct, Scielo, LILACS, and Google Scholar. The methodological quality of the studies was assessed using the PEDro Scale. Results: Eight studies were eligible. The strength improvement were from 2.9 to 35.6% (SMD: 0.68; CI: 0.05, 1.32; p <.05), the muscle cross-sectional area (CSA) increased from 3.1 to 8% (SMD 0.47; CI 0.11, 0.82; p <.01), and physical function from 12 to 28% (SMD: −0.15; CI −1.01, 0.70; p >.05). Conclusion: BFR training was effective for increasing strength, muscle mass and physical function in the older adults, presenting the advantage of less mechanical stress, and should be considered as an alternative when traditional training is contraindicated. Introduction: This study aimed to identify the number of students from a higher education institution into the interior of São Paulo state who experienced their entry into alcohol, tobacco and other substances in order to evaluate the occurrence and dependency level on them. Materials and Methods: An extract of a compiling, exploratory, descriptive study under a quantitative approach was conducted in 416 undergraduate students. The data were collected over the third quarter of 2017 by applying a semi-structured questionnaire prepared by the authors in addition to the Triage Questionnaire for Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs Use. A descriptive statistical analysis was conducted for data analysis as well as a Pearson' chi-squared test, according to the instructions for the application of the selected instrument. This study was received and approved by the Research Ethics Committee. Results: The general rates for entry and drug type are 140 (30%) for tobacco derivatives, 303 (66%) for alcohol beverages, 89 (19%) for marijuana, 32 (7%) for cocaine/crack, 24 (5%) for amphetamines or ecstasy, 30 (7%) for inhalant drugs, 45 (10%) for hypnotics/sedatives, 36 (8%) for hallucinogens and 9 (2%) for opioids. Discussion: Students showed to be involved in all types of substances which is linked to flexibility in relation to their use in the university environment and their easy access. Conclusions: Undergraduate students have a real and intense relationship with alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. In addition to this relationship, the risk of addiction to these substances is presented as a major social and healthcare problem. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: to validate the vulnerability markers of dysfunctions in the socioemotional development of infants. Methods: study with a sequential exploratory mixed-method design. The vulnerability markers elaborated in the qualitative phase were analyzed by experts in the quantitative phase using the Delphi technique with a minimum consensus of 70%. Seventeen judges answered the questionnaire in the first round of analysis and 11 answered in the second round. Results: in the first round, two markers did not reach minimum consensus: the presence of instability in family relationships (66%) and delinquency and/or drug abuse by parents/caregivers (65%). In the second round, all markers were validated, with more than 90% agreement in most of the attributes, and reached the minimum consensus of 73%. Conclusion: the eight vulnerability markers reached the minimum consensus for validation, and a relevant instrument for infant care can be developed after assessing the reliability and clinically validating these markers. Abstract: Ocimum gratissimum L. is popularly used to treat diabetes mellitus. The hypoglycemic activity of this medicinal species has been confirmed by in vivo studies. The present study conducted a chemical investigation of a leaf decoction (10% p/v) of O. gratissimum monitored by in vivo hypoglycemic activity assays. Four phenolic substances were identified: l-caftaric acid (1), l-chicoric acid (2), eugenyl-β-d-glucopyranoside (3) and vicenin-2 (4). The acute hypoglycemic activity of the O. gratissimum decoction fractions Og1-S (300mg/kg), Og1-A (240mg/kg) and Og1-B (80mg/kg) was evaluated intraperitoneally in normal and streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice. They reduced glycemia by 63%, 76% and 60% (in 120min), respectively, in the diabetic mice. Subfractions of Og1-A were also evaluated under the same conditions: Og1-AS (200mg/kg) and Og1-AP (40mg/kg) produced a decrease of only 37% and 39%, respectively. Among the major phenolic substances, only chicoric acid (2; 3mg/kg) reduced significantly the glycemic levels of diabetic mice by 53%, 120min after treatment. This is the first study describing the hypoglycemic activity of chicoric acid in an animal model of diabetes mellitus. In addition, we suggest that there may be other substances contributing to this activity. Thus, for the first time, a correlation is established between the hypoglycemic activity of O. gratissimum and its chemical composition. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
