Objective: To compare the efficacy of trans-septal suturing technique with conventional nasal packing in septoplasty surgery in terms of frequency of severe post-operative pain. Material and Methods: This randomized control trial was conducted at ENT department, Allied Hospital, Faisalabad over six months from January 2016 to June 2016. 60 patients with symptomatic deviated nasal septum were randomly divided into groups X and Y representing the nasal packing group and trans-septal suturing group respectively. Classic septoplasty was performed in all patients. All patients were evaluated for post-operative pain on visual analogue scale at 1st postoperative day. Results: There were 30 (50 %) males and 30 (50%) females among a total of 60 patients. 18 year to 45 year was age range having mean age of 29 year. In our study, comparison of frequency of severe post-operative pain shows that 90% (n=27) in Group-X and 16.67% (n=5) in Group-Y had severe post-operative pain, Calculated p-value was 0.000 exhibiting a significant difference. Conclusion: Efficacy of trans-septal suturing technique is significantly higher when compared with conventional nasal packing in septoplasty surgery in terms of frequency of severe post-operative pain.
